None of the other Duggar children inherited "bad touch disorder" or assholism, so I'm going to say it wasn't an inherent thing that Josh was born with.

I guess I know too many families where one kid is awful and the rest are not.

While I agree that a**holes are born and not made, I do think his upbringing maximized the chances that he would be an arrogant, entitled prick.

Yeah, I totally agree. JB and M -- with a very very very healthy assist from Bill Gothard and the rest of the "biblical patriarchy" types -- gave a mighty push to all of Josh's bad tendencies. The firstborn son is the leader of the home and is treated with deference and told he can and should boss his siblings around, etc. etc etc. Ah yes, not good at all for some kids.

And while I think that any upbringing at all -- unfortunately -- can bring out the bad tendencies in some kid or other, extreme upbringings like this really really do it if you have a kid who has the wrong set of bad tendencies. I think that upbringing is probably more negative than positive in most families, since it clearly favors a kid who already has the advantage of age and strength over siblings -- gives them an excuse to powertrip them. Nevertheless, I expect there also have been times when it's had an okay effect -- even some cases where naturally very self-effacing firstborn sons in families like this may have benefited from a Gothardy-firstborn-boy upbringing -- for whom it may have been just the encouragement they needed.

But when it got applied to somebody who may have been born preening his alpha-male feathers it was going to be a disaster. And it was.

I don't know that Anna knows this is an option.  And I respectfully disagree that JB would support that.  These folks make the same mistakes over and over again.  JB has doubled down on "Keep Josh happy in the bedroom and we won't have any more of this foolishness."

I think JB would've supported that, not out of love for Anna or the M kids but love of the almighty dollar. Molesting his sisters when he was a kid made the Duggar family look bad, Ashley Madison made the family look bad, if Anna had gone to a tabloid and said "Josh Duggar, my husband has been raping me and no one cared to help me." that would've made the family look WORSE.

JB is a fool but he knows how these things make the family look which is why he didn't want Josh going to DC in the first place.

@JocelynCavanaugh, true. JB has just thrown money at the problems, thinking that and prayer would make each situation go away.

It's just a matter of time before Smuggar acts out again. He's probably already looking at porn on the car lot laptop. I'm sure he knows how to erase his search history or do so in incognito mode while Joe tinkers on cars and waits on what few customers actually show up to look at their junkers.

Is assholism contagious?  It seems like Derrick has a raging case of it.

I stand by my previous statement that pretty much every bad attribute of Duggardom (and there are a lot of them) is a highly contagious virus.

I am guessing that most of us here were brought up with some version of the Golden Rule. My own mom used to point out my undesirable behavior by saying, "How would you like it if someone did that to you?" Even when I was very young, I understood that and was able to empathize. (Obviously this didn't fly if I had a legitimate grievance and acted out somehow, but in general - re: thoughtlessness or rudeness, it made sense.)

The Duggars and various other fundies, on the other hand, are brought up to believe that they are special and superior to "non-believers". It's fine to call other people sinners, say they are immoral, going to hell, etc. it's OK to marginalize them, and even work hard to take away their civil rights.  Throw in general disdain for women, and a first-born highly indulged son of parents who have too many other kids to pay full attention and, voila! You get an a-hole with sex-related issues.

I'm not going to feel sorry for her.  She's an adult, she's not forced to live the life that she has.  I don't care what brain washing she went through as a child.  She's an adult now, she has access to social media.  She's not locked in her house and she's been to places outside her town.  There exists life outside of Gothard and she even has examples of that in her own family?

At the end of the day, its her life.  Her husband molested his sisters and has cheated on her multiple times.  If she still wants to be with him and keep popping out babies that's her choice.  We don't have to like it.   Some people can't be alone, maybe she's one of them.  Being a divorced single mom would be hard and maybe she just doesn't want to go through that.  I guess we won't ever know unless she tells us.

Amen. Sick if the excuses. She can buy an iPhone and get social media. She's an adult. Abusing your sisters is fucking wrong

Anna, please contact  Gloria Allred or Lisa Bloom.  They will help you get what you deserve of the Duggar money and will advocate for you to move forward with you & children's lives.

I'm not really a fan of the artsy-craftsy trend either. Why not just do a cute picture of the baby with the relevant stats? I favor simplicity, so the cutesy props are just annoying to me.

Eh, they grabbed the dumbbell to try to convince leghumpers that Smuggar is working out. The rest of us just laugh.

I assumed the dumbbell was to show us that he was already a manly man with no chance of being even a little bit feminine.

If he has Internet porn, you know he's already working out his arm and hand.

Honestly, that breaks my heart a little that they tried to copy that photo. Poor little innocent fellow. Doesn't know what he's been born into. I'm just so sad for these kids, the older ones who have to have an inkling that something isn't right, and will one day google, and these little babies born in such desperate circumstances.

And it's high time the little dude get an Ashley Madison account just like his macho dad.

Yes, and also a dumbbell is such a symbol of masculinity because everybody knows girls don't know how to lift weights.

Why oh why? There are enough disasters afflicting the world now. We don't need the Duggar's mugs and self righteousness to further fuck things up. Yeah I'm crabby, can't get a hold of any relatives in PR.

I've been waiting for the Josh rehab train since the beginning. I'm almost impressed that they managed to hold out this long...I was sure that TLC and People would have started back at the end of the first season of Counting On.

Leavings this typo/error in the US article here without comment.

"Anna, 19, and Josh, 29, tied the knot in 2008 and are already parents of Mackynzie, 7, Michael, 6, Marcus, 4, and Meredith, 2."

That's called a Freudian Typo.

Seeing that article makes me wish to see Josh discovered tomorrow in the backseat of an old junker on his car lot with two dead girls and a live boy. ... And a sheep.

I said the same thing, earlier.  About Freudian slip.  :)  Great minds do think alike!

Fuck, I just remembered that it's the 9th anniversary of this couple. It's my dad's birthday, but he passed away in May. I was at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival watching the McCain/Obama debate, munching dinner before heading out to see Othello. I don't rememeber how it got out, but I knew that they were getting married that day (a Friday night).

No wonder I haven't felt well today.

I remember reading the date beforehand and then waiting to see pictures of the dress.

I'm sorry about your dad.

OK, we all need a heads-up on 2018......The Joshley Redemption Tour, Joshley Turns 30 and Spouts Off Advice, Anna Turns 30 and Spouts Off Advice, followed by the Glorious Celebration of Joshley and Anna's 10th Anniversary with More Advice, then the Announcement of Blessing #6 !!!!  Gag. Don't say you weren't warned.

That picture is awkward. It looks like Anna fell down and Josh is crouched beside her to help her up, but it is a posed shot.  The background is odd too with the door and the table, and contribute to the Anna fell down scenario.

Just bizarre.

Thank you ! I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on !

I'm hoping Anna is a little tipsy in that picture.  She snuck away & had a wine cooler or two before she had to consummate the marriage with Josh.
