Jessa, Ben and Their Brood: Making a (Diaper) Mountain out of a Mold House

Oh, Jessa will continue to grift Starbucks gift cards somehow. I suspect there are devout leghumpers who send little love offerings to the Duggars and though she's lost the fresh bloom of youth, Jessa's still one of the hotter Duggar daughters.

@Churchhoney, thanks for the info on Starbucks drinks. I like coffee but not the fancy thingies on coffee shop menus so I'm clueless about the deets. All I know is they are generally packed with sugar. It's funny - people who know I like coffee - but not that I don't much like Starbuck$ coffee - give me Starbuck$ gift cards. I recently rounded up the various gift cards that I'd sweetly thanked the givers for and rarely used. I think I had about $35 worth. I'm very slowly using up the cards, generally when I'm meeting someone at a Starbuck$ anyway.

40 year old Jessa, checking the mailbox every day, hoping she came get some Chick-fil-a and a Frap. I suspect the love offerings will quickly dry up once the show mercifully ends. There's no fun in sending Jessa and her three kids a giftcard if she's a nobody. I hope she fill out a Citrus and Lemonade jumper well.

When did Jessa switch from Coffee For Life (the CHRISTIAN coffee shop) to Starbucks?

I'm with you on not being a fan of Starbuck$ (😀) offerings. I think I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've actually bought anything in a Starbucks.

But there's a Starbucks on the main drag just half a block from where I live, and there's been one next door to or directly across the street from the last three offices I've worked in, too. So for decades now I've been constantly walking to Starbucks so my colleagues, family members, guests and neighbors can get their fixes. I've stood around contemplating their menu quite a lot.

I live in the Pacific Northwest now where Starbucks is considered plasma.

We were in there a few months back on the patio where you could hear the drivethru, which is always jammed. Someone reeled off one of those insanely complex orders (grande almond milk half pump caramel chai blablabla). I swear it took nearly a minute. There was a pause, and then the employee said, “Did you want coffee in that?”

I laughed the rest of the day.

Back to Jessa. I think she’s figured out that clicks are clicks, hence the trolling.

The coffee-less frappuccinos have “creme” in their names.  But you can see in the photo that Spurgeon’s drink had no coffee- it was too pale. I am not a coffee fan but I do enjoy their iced teas and chai.

Starbucks is my personal little indulgence.  I don’t go every day or even every week but I refill my card regularly and when the mood strikes I get myself something.   But I have grown kids and more disposable income than Jessa. Routine trips can add up to a substantial amount of money.  In my case awareness of  the amount of sugar in the drinks keeps my spending at a reasonable level.

Does Anna maybe not drink coffee? I can definitely see money being an issue for her and a reason she wouldn't be familiar with the Starbucks menu.

However, I personally don't drink coffee, so I don't go to Starbucks and have no familiarity with their menu. Honestly just assumed there was caffeine in there until I read the comments here. I learn so much on this website. 🙂

I wouldn't be surprised if she got gift cards. Kate Gosselin was open about getting them, and that's when she had a show. Now what stupid people give spoiled reality people gift cards?

Well, apparently a lot of Hollywood types get gifts from the masses, too. I figure it's the same thing ancient people were doing when they made sacrifices to the gods.

Humans are herd animals, so we seek big leaders and do what we can to stay on their good sides.

And when people splash around in front of us on our screens, I think it's easy for many to unconsciously take them as the leaders they seek. These screen people are not mere mortals like the people around us!

And I'm not even kidding. Because, as you say, what possible reason is there? Why the hell would people send gifts to spoiled people they don't even know? There has to be some kind of biologically driven delusion behind it, seems to me.

Well, Jessa doesn't know that much about country life!

Or...city life either, I suppose.

She knows about Duggardom. Which is some kind of weird suburban somethingorother. And that's about it.

If all you’re getting is plain coffee that $35 will last you a good long while. I hate anything in my coffee. Except liquor. But you can’t get that through the drive thru. 🙂

I can't believe how beautiful Henry is.  I'm ashamed to admit that I was one of those who thought newborn Henry to have had some unfortunate defect.  He was unusually homely!

Young Jessa had plenty of awkward phases along the way growing up, IMO; including one picture of her as a toddler where I thought her face looked, quite frankly, so odd as to be almost deformed.

As for the Starbucks drink, nutritionally I'm not bothered by it as I know it doesn't have caffeine, and probably isn't that much different from feeding your kid a vanilla milkshake.

  • Love 3

Other than cakepops and the Vanilla Bean Frap that is the only thing I ever get from Starbucks lol, so I can't blame her for that one.  I will say a few summers ago they had mini Fraps, and I was guilty of buying my kids one of those, they were much smaller and like most said the vanilla ones didn't have coffee in them, although my kids were still a bit older than hers....

My mom would never let us have iced tea as kids because of the caffeine, but she had NO problem loading us up with Kool-Aid or even worse, sugar free Kool-Aid made with NutraSweet. Yum! Chemicals! That was like almost 40 years ago and I'm still alive, so I guess I survived. An occasional treat of Starbucks isn't going to hurt Jessa's kids, people need to chill.

I watch a YouTube channel called 1000s of Roots about a homestead family and most of their kids run around barefoot most of the year.

As for Jessa, once the show is off the air, she can continue on YouTube. One channel I watch is an older lady who puts out a 5-10 minute video every day and she's constantly getting gifts from her viewers.

I watch Andrea Mill's LONG videos at bedtime.  I am a terrible sleeper and her long, soothing videos are my bedtime stories!

I cannot believe the huge amount of things and gift cards their 'Youtube friends" constantly send them.  Especially for her kids'birthdays, and she has 9 of them!

She homeschools, home births, home churches, and home herbal medicines.

Oh, and the whole family is addicted to Mountain Dew.  Even Hanna, the baby.

I watch a YouTube channel, Max and Katie the Great Danes. Max and Katie have both passed away, but the owners have 2 more now. They also live in a legit mansion and neither one seems to have a job. The husband paints, but it seems more like a hobby, and no one can figure out where all their money is coming from. And even though their bedroom is like the size of my whole apartment and they are living in a multimillion dollar home, people are constantly sending the dogs presents. Jessa really needs to get someone who actually can do marketing for her, she's obviously got the drive and the hustle. She seems to be right behind JimBob in hustle, I'll give her that. She just needs someone to help her do it right if this is what's going to support her, Ben, and the kids for the long term. She also needs to break away from the large family in terms of the whole. We've all thought she's the kid pushing this for a while now, she should be getting more than her siblings who randomly show up here and there if that's true.

IDK I think she is lazy as hell, smug, and wants to get by on her (fading) looks. If she had “hustle “ (I hate that word btw) she would go get some training for a real job (or at least tell Bin to do that).

I follow Max and Katie's channel as well; a) because I love Great Danes and b) because the videos are drool-worthy house porn.

I think if Jessa had a stronger-willed, savvy husband like Jeremy, she could definitely make a go of it, but she's stuck with Bin. Not that he's a bad guy, but I don't think he has an ounce of ambition or drive. He's a coattail rider, not a leader. Great for Jessa in the sense that she can run the show, but bad because it's all on her, all the time.

It’s “on her” but she can’t cook, she can’t clean, and she is not willing to actually work. She wants to make a living by exploiting her “cute” kids, just like her parents did.

I must be older than you are.  I remember cyclamates and saccharin, in diet soda.  I survived, as well.  I seriously doubt that a once-in-awhile bit of caffeine or sugar in a small portion is going to be harmful to healthy children.

Agreed.  My father is 64 and was given coffee for the first time when he was 5.  He told me that he drank a full cup every day before elementary school (and from then on).  This was just normal in his Polish-American immigrant family.  I wouldn't think of doing that with my son, but it does remind me to not get too worked up over the times when my son gets more sugar or caffeine than he should!  (In case anyone is curious, my dad is in good health)!

She probably means brushing their teeth with activated charcoal. It's a fad among some alternative-health types to do this....Supposedly it whitens your teeth. Not clear whether it also takes the enamel off entirely. ;  )

I used it a couple of times, and it tore my gums up, and my gums were healthy and normal beforehand.  After I used the charcoal they were raw and sore for several days.

Activated charcoal is also used (or was) for people who have tried to commit suicide. Brings the bad stuff right up.  Blergggghhh...

My college roommate’s mom attempted suicide a few times. It was quite the learning experience (and not covered in the college catalog).

Activated charcoal absorbs many medications, so, if someone has taken pills and they're still in the stomach; the charcoal will soak up the poison before it can be absorbed into the body.

Ipecac is the stuff that induces vomiting.

This is pretty much true for all of them at this point. Even Abby & Lauren's babies aren't going to generate any real interest in the Duggar family. The in-law grandparents may get excited but the Duggars have already been through "first baby" 6 times so it's just part of the routine.

Agree. The general public definitely doesn't care. The only people even mildly interested are snarkers and the leghumpers. And even then, old news. 2nd and 3rd babies aren't as interesting. The only reason I give a shit about Joy's pregnancy is because I'm curious to see if she learned anything and will go to a hospital for this one.

The only newsworthy Duggar story would be a scandalous out of wedlock baby or if one of the kids escapes and writes a tell all.
