She was dealt a pretty bad hand to start with.

Please tell me (if you're not being facetious) what you're referring to ("dealt a bad hand") I am not all that familiar with Tori's childhood other than she was born to Aaron and Candy Spelling in Beverly Hills, went to school in Beverly Hills and became well known for her role on the TV series 90210 which was produced by her father. Not a bad hand to be dealt.

I was referring strictly to her looks, not her financial advantages.

Yes, indeed Bratinella, she did get dealt a bad hand in the looks category! I usually get most posters sarcasm/wit but for some reason I thought (or was hoping) you had some juicy  scandelous gossip about Tori's childhood. Lol! Thanks for 'splaining yourself.

The McDonald's commercials for their new fancy sandwiches are trying way too hard. The sandwich options come in chicken or "seared beef"...you mean a BURGER?!? Y'all ain't fooling  anybody ?

By "seared" do they mean "flame broiled"? I hear they've got tomatoes on some of their sandwiches now too.

Searing just puts a tasty brown crust on a thick hunk of something without heating up the center, so if it's meat it will be brown on the outside, pink and possibly still bloody on the inside. So yeah, as @LoneHaranguer said, they may need something else to finish off the patty unless they're planning on offering rare, medium and well-done burgers instead of cooking everything the same.

Is Tori Spelling the new "Madam Cleo"? Why would someone with her wealth be the spokesperson for California Psychics Hotline?

Hey Tori, I've got a prediction about your future: you're a millionaire..life is going to be just fine for you.

If I remember correctly, Tori Spelling has massive financial problems.  She needs the money to support her celebrity lifestyle.

I think McDonald's uses griddles, not grills or broilers. BK is the one who purports to use flames.

Someone once told me BK no longer flame broils their burgers at the restaurant. I'm not sure if that's true or not b/c I've seen restaurants without that long grilling assembly line machine.

I would kill for a BK Nightmare Before Christmas watch.

I misparsed this and wondered why you wanted a Nightmare burger before December 25th instead of Halloween. Speaking of which, is that the scary Burger King I see sneaking back into their commercials?

Are restaurants allowed to serve rare hamburger? I thought it was a food safety issue. Also, isn't McD's now serving fresh, local food instead of frozen? Because that worked so well for Chipotle. Only not.

I was watching the news this a.m. about the tragedy in Times Square, and the man they interviewed said "and we took pictures, just like everyone else." I'm not sure what you do with those photos, but they have them. I can't imagine being a victim, and all you see is a circle of people, phones out, taking pictures.

It's like a scene from the show Black Mirror.

Anytime there is the slightest disruption now, whether a full-scale tragedy or just a loud disagreement between a customer and a store clerk, someone records it as though it has potential value (and I think that is the true driving force,  a hope of capturing something that can "go viral" or perhaps make the nightly news).

Are the "real people" in the Chevy's ads real people? Maybe, but the social pressure to put on an act is pretty intense

Quote

And indeed, he — and the cameras — were apparently the key to making all of these “real people” perform on cue. “You felt really bad about saying something negative about Chevy because there were 50 cameras on you, and it was just this one guy,” the participant told the A.V. Club. “He did this magic trick of making it seem like you were hurting his feelings if you said anything bad about Chevy. You didn’t want to see this guy stop smiling. It was really bizarre.”

I hate the "America's best first job" McDonald's commercial where the kid comes in with his unopened college acceptance letter and the douchebag manager snatches it out of his hand, rips it open, and reads it out loud to the entire crew.

What if it had been a rejection letter? He would have just humiliated that poor kid in front of all of his co-workers!

Asshole.

I actually really like this commercial, but I might be biased because McDonalds was my first job (other than a stint detassling corn!) and I have nothing but good memories of working there.  I learned so much, skills and work habits that stay with me today, plus back then (way back then), mostly high-schoolers like me worked there and we were all great friends.  The McDonalds in our city even had a softball league in the summers, and each week we'd play a different McDonalds crew at diamonds all over the city, lots of times riding our bikes to get there because...well, things were different back then in terms of getting to drive the family vehicle on a weekday afternoon!

Back when I worked there, we were taught to sear the frozen burgers on the griddle once they thawed a bit, by pressing the back of the spatula on the patty.  I'm kind of hoping "seared beef" means something more than that.....

The Slim Jim beef jerky commercial with the motorcycle cops (one cop keeps asking a question and then revving his motor loudly when the other cop tries to answer) just fills me with unreasonable rage.  I want to punch the guy in the throat.

I feel the same way, but I'm not exactly in the demographic that buys Slim Jims. I'm guessing fourteen year old boys think it's hilarious.

Isn't that the point that jerks eat Slim Jims?

This commercial makes me want to kill something.  It is on every time I turn on the damn TV.

It is the worst.

I also currently hate the Viagra commercial on Canadian stations.  I was under the impression that it wasn't legal to advertise prescription medication on tv, but I keep seeing this commercial.  Some weird guy standing in line at the pharmacist, and when he gets his bag, says "this isn't Viagra, I really wanted Viagra, could you change this for Viagra, Viagra is the best....." and the guy behind him in line is all  "Hmmm, I've always wanted to know about Viagra.."  All in all they say Viagra about 8 billion times, and I hate this commercial.

It may not be legal in Canada, but it's very legal in the U.S. We are bombarded with commercials for prescription drugs. It's ridiculous.
