The 30 second promo clip already looks better than the last ep!(for me anyway)

Hmmm.... it looks like it will have a considerable amount of The Countess in this one. Fingers crossed for some good drama.

Yay for Ramona in it and I see some Mrs Evers too, which is never a bad thing.

Will Drake can't say he wasn't warned.

A vampire with Alzheimer's. Romona is my least favorite character in the season but I was moved by her backstory.

Everyone thought the rampaging vampire school kids was going to be a dropped plot point. It seems that there are a lot less of the in Hotel then in previous seasons. I actually think this season was plotted out.

Iris was hilarious in her reasoning for killing the porn people. Plus her comment on the douchebag convention made me chuckle.

Side note: who where's sparkly stars on their boobs during sex?

So the finale is next week? I hope they show Bartholemew again, I missed him the first time.

I hope they show what happens to all the vampire kids. Oh, and that Drildo guy too.

This episode was ok. A lot happened. The guy the Countess married should have listened to Ms. Evers, she's always right.

Next week is the winter finale. Then the show returns in January with the last 3 episodes.

Liz Taylor and Miss Evers spoke the truth. Poor Miss Evers wanting to marry James even though she is old enough to be his mom. At least she still got to die and now haunt with him.

We can now add Will Drake to the ghost list. I might have cared more had we seen more of him but he came in then vanished for a few episodes.

I was grateful to get a break from John.  Sally was missing again.

Donovan is a fool at least now he may have finally gotten a clue.

It was definitely better than last weeks ep.  But nothing amazing.  I am kind of just so-so about this season, and that sucks because it's one of my favorite shows and I am not feeling it this season. Even Coven, which was my least fave, I think I enjoyed more than this season.  I can't believe I said that.
Lots of Countess in this one,...I guess I liked her a bit more than from the earlier eps,but I just never have really warmed up to her all that much. I'm sure GaGa is doing her best with this first time big acting role, but it would be interesting  to see what a seasoned actress could have done with it.

Everyone thought the rampaging vampire school kids was going to be a dropped plot point.

I sure was thinking they'd drop it,so I was glad to see those little bloodsuckers back.

Some great tunes in this ep! I love 80's music.

So many throat slashings!

Didn't think Donovan would pull a double cross. I love Ramona's line about him..."you are very pretty."  So true Ramona,so true!

Oh great....The return of the bad Italian accent.

Loved when Liz raised her hand and objected about the marriage;   "Ah, yeah...cause she's a bitch...." And he was wearing black too!

I thought for sure Ramona was going to plunge her high heel into the porno guy's chest.

Love Iris' line to the porn director-  "Sorry, the douchebag convention is over at the Hilton."

I'm a bit confused.  The last episode made it clear that Lady GaGa hasn't married anyone since March.  However, she is a countess and hasn't married since she gave birth to Bartholemw.  HOW DID THIS LADY BECOME A COUNTESS?

  • Love 1

And March himself called her The Countess. I'm assuming this was before their marriage, which would've been before she was even a vampire. So unless it was a little pet name he gave her, then she randomly decided after Valentino's death, but before her hasty marriage, to call herself The Countess.

  • Love 1

I don't think she actually is a countess of anything. She just calls herself that because she can: When Detective Lowe asked her what she was the Countess of she responded "whatever you want me to be." When she meets Valentino she is an actress on a film and Marchs new money . I think she calls herself the Coubtess because well..,Count Dracula? She is the most powerful vampire in the Cortez. She can call herself what she likes.

This is a very good question. That said, the reason I like this show is because I decided to not ask the good questions and to just enjoy the fun moments. And there were a bunch of them in last night's episode.  Iris's douchebag comment to the porno people, Liz's interaction with Elizabeth and her objection at the wedding, every scene Evan Peters is in, Miss Evers trying to warn Will about the countess.  Oh, and lots of Matt Bomer never hurts either.

I think this is the reason I liked the almost universally-reviled Coven.  There were so much fun stuff in that season.  The dialog -- "The magic box lies!!!", "she probably got wasted and offered the Grim Reaper a hand job" "She's off with that half-baked Beetlejuice Papa Legabooboo", Myrtle Snow, the New Orleans porn and the use of music -- especially Stevie Nicks singing "Seven Wonders" while the girls studied for the test.  I also think that's why I wasn't a huge fan of Freak Show -- other than Dandy and Gloria that season was very light on those kinds of moments.

The main issue I have with this season is the Skinemax-style sex scenes.  I am no prude but it's really, really over-the-top to me.  Baby Girl RalyWilmy said it seems like they show it so graphically just because they can and they have Lady Gaga who's willing to do it. I totally agree.  A little bit of that goes a long way and I wish they'd tone it down.

Overall, I really like this season, though.

I really can't stand this season, but this is one of these shows where i've been in since Murder House and just can't turn away.  The stunt casting of Gaga was the main turn off for me, but I tried it out anyways.  I have to say it's the surrounding cast of characters that keeps me coming back, especially this season as Bates, Peters, Winningham, and Basset are really bringing their A-game.

I was shocked we got more of Basset's character backstory since she has been barely there for over 3/4 of the season, but damn if she doesn't bring it.

I'm going to assume that most of Murphy's attention is on his newer shows and Tim Minear is shouldering most of the load, with a happy payoff in story coherence for us viewers. Basically, his Angel episode "Are You Now or Have You Ever Been?" is a pilot/proof of concept demo for this season.

I'm with the show every season too, but not feeling this one. To me, there is nothing scary, no one to root for, no sense of anything besides evil and depravity. I really wanted  the Hotel, to be the main character. This season should have been called Gaga or the Countess. It would have been way more scary to me if the Hotel itself was haunted or evil and various people had experiences while staying there.  As it is, I really can't root for anyone since anyone who isn't committing the murders is standing by and letting them happen.

I have no idea why Liz Taylor would want to stay at the hotel. Yes, she can dress as she wants, but who sees

her? Who does she interact with besides people she hates? Surely, in 2015, Liz could find places in LA she could be herself in. Everyone else is a hateful murderer, including Iris who I liked a smidgen.

What is the point of bringing the Valentino character back again? I really have lost interest in the black widow Lady Gaga character and find it hard to believe all of these men fell in love with her. She is neither beautiful nor charming IMO, although she wears some lovely clothes.

So, I'm guessing everyone will be dead at the end except March and the Countess. Meh.

I'd really like to know why Will is so taken with the Countess that he'd marry her. Does she have some sort of "glamouring" power, as a vampire? Or are we just supposed to think she's so utterly fabulous that even a gay man can't resist her?

If she doesn't have some sort of mind control going on, then fuck Will - if he had any decency, he would have been out of there as soon as he saw the Countess force Tristan to be a sex toy.

As for why she's called "The Countess?" I suspect it's just because Elisabeth Bathory was a countess, and so the writers decided to throw it in.

eta: I see there's only one episode left.

No way. There is no way there is only one more episode. Maybe only one more before a break until after the new year, but this show is always 12 or 13 episodes every season. And I thought this episode was great. Edited by bblancobrnx

I agree, and I think that's why I'm really enjoying this season.  It doesn't have the intensity and freshness of the first season, or some of the scary/suspenseful moments of some of the others, but I think it's fascinating as a kind of...it's like a collection of short stories, with some overlap.  I feel like it's been paced better than the last couple seasons, too, in the sense that I feel like each major character gets his/her due.  It's like there's a lot going on and nothing going on at the same time, and I'm liking that.

Lady Gaga is sometimes distracting, like at the beginning when Liz mentioned paparazzi it made me think of Gaga's music, and then Gaga had a line about being on the edge which made me think "of glory," another one of her songs.  Not sure whether that's intentional but it pulls me out of the story a bit.  Overall I'm enjoying her, though.

I wish they didn't have a "winter finale" to come back with only a couple more episodes.  That just breaks the flow, as much as I like it I can see myself forgetting about it during its break.

I hate that shows takes these kinds of breaks with only a few episodes left. I have it set to series record, but I thunk.in previous season I forgot about the show during the break. The only good thing is I have all of the episodes saved on DVR and I can go back and watch them all before the show makes its return. I have really enjoyed this season so far. I think the pacing has been perfect and the story and characters have kept me very interested

I thought they looked ridiculous. The producers should have stuck with the other edit they ran, where they did a very brief frontal of the double's boobs and avoided showing that part of Gaga when she was on screen.

Iris was hilarious in her reasoning for killing the porn people.

She had a good point about how just about anyone can be a porn producer these days, although I doubt any would shoot a scene that looks so dated. Wasn't she risking that the porn people would be in the hotel forever? She could have just told them to leave.

I don't think she actually is a countess of anything. She just calls herself that because she can:

Can't you buy titles like that?

This season to me feels like RM decided to do a soft-core porn version of AHS and include Gaga to get the gays hooked since he lost Lange.  At least soft-core porn has a plot you can follow from a to b.

So the Countess wanted the forbidden wing  reinforced w/a steel-door and cameras so she can watch her enemies for the rest of her life?  How...stupid.

There is no sense of foreboding because we can't be scared or concerned for any character, Will Drake was the last living character with the potential to be sympathetic ; the human two kids left, Scarlet is almost totally forgotten now and Will's son has no one rooting for him.

In the hotel it's otherwise random people who check in and are offed . I guess it's a joke that the annoying guests "deserve" to die (pretentious hipsters, druggies, sexist yuppies, Swedish tourists, homophobic businessmen, sleazy porno crew, amoral real estate agent, well Naomi Campbell did deserve it) but there is no sense of horror that innocent good people are also in danger at the Cortez.

After awhile you would think that someone would connect this hotel to so many guests missing

The kid that plays Holden just has been weird and creepy from the start.  I do not know if the kid is not a good actor, because it is impossible to tell in someone that young.  However, the girl that played Scarlett was actually quite good in keeping my attention.

She was the first character that seemed real.  The rest seemed to be photographs from some avant garde high fashion magazine.  Even though all the men are pretty, they all look so much alike that I can barely tell them apart.  Liz holds the screen better then any of them and she is not conventionally attractive (though crazy fabulous).

Also, not to be mean, but everyone always talks about how beautiful Holden is...sorry not seeing it.  To me he looks like a messed up Olsen twin and this was before he was kidnapped by the Countess.

Yeah - especially when they make reservations! The Swedes and the porn group alone should have people out looking for them by now.

I was a bit bored with the backstory about Ramona and her father - we already got a backstory with her that involved her film career, meeting The Countess, and The Countess killing the man she was in love with. That's enough backstory to establish her desire for revenge. The story about her father added nothing to the plot and felt like filler.

I'm bummed they killed off Will Drake but thankfully on this show nobody has to leave just because they're dead.

I'm not sure why March wanted to show Will the demon baby since The Countress was going to kill him anyway. Maybe he wanted to make sure Will was killed at the hotel instead of in Paris so he'd have to stick around. That would be my motivation for sure, but I'm not sure why March would have any interest in Will.

I'm not sure I understand Will's fascination with The Countess either. I haven't really been bothered by GaGa's acting (or lack thereof) but this relationship is sort of a sticking point. Don't understand why Liz would stick around either after she killed Tristan.

Overall though, still enjoying this season far more than the last two.

What is the point of bringing the Valentino character back again?

So he could practice his accent? (It didn't improve yet.)

Whenever she talks with her wooden delivery she just seems like a regular girl from Jersey.

There was a particular moment in this episode (near the beginning, can't remember what she was saying, but it was in voiceover) where she just completely sounded like that and it took me right out of the whole thing. I actually haven't been too bothered by her most of the time, but that was glaring.

I don't understand why I was supposed to care about Ramona's story with her father. I mean, it was interesting I guess to learn that the blood doesn't cure everything, although I think we already learned that with measles, but I don't think I needed to know that much about Ramona. It's like the first part of the season had no exposition and this part is all exposition.

I still think that overall this has been a pretty good season, but this makes two boring episodes in a row. Also, I couldn't watch Murder House or Asylum before bed and hope to sleep. I made my husband promise not to even talk about the show after 9 pm. This season, it's just not scary enough for it to bother me at all.

I completely forgot about this show until I saw it on the DVR.  Not a good sign.  I had to force myself to watch it before The Challenge - an even worse sign, that show sucks.

I think this season could have been so much better.  The only adult with a moral compass - John - has now been revealed as one of the biggest monsters.  Something's off.  The characters aren't working for me, and I think it's because it's hard for me to root for evil - even when they have cool accents, nice asses, fancy clothes, and cutesy lines.

I thought they looked ridiculous. The producers should have stuck with the other edit they ran, where they did a very brief frontal of the double's boobs and avoided showing that part of Gaga when she was on screen.

Pasties during sex scenes - I let it pass the first time.  Now?  It's stupider than the typical scene in which a woman is having full blown sex with her bra on.  Even that would make sense.  In too much of a hurry to take your bra off.  But why in the world would you take the time to glue on your sparkly pasties?  The chafing would be horrible, and why in the world do you want to armor one of your most pleasurable parts?  I'm chalking it up to a gay man not understanding a woman's body.

I do not understand it either.  I mean she even had Rudolph Valentino fall in love with her and that was before she was a vampire.

I think she is supposed to be dynamo in the sack, but all her sex scenes look like horrible sex scenes, with Gaga going up and down like a jackhammer.

I understand the allure of Gaga in vampire mode.  She's mesmerizing.  With the wig, the clothes, and her overt sexuality - I could buy it.  But in the flashback to 1920s?  It was a shocker.  They made her look so dumpy.  It seemed like they even had a mouth insert that gave her an overbite.  I didn't believe for a second that a famous movie star and his gorgeous wife would look at her twice.  I think Gaga has done a good job when doing the glamorous vampire - even her monotone works in that part.  But when she's attempting to affect emotion - shudder!  The scene in which she attempts to throw herself from the window - God awful.  Probably the worst acting I've seen in a long, long time.  And I don't blame her.  I blame RM.  I do think it was rather arrogant of Gaga to think she could play the staring role, and in effect, replace Jessica Lange.  I mean, as much as Gaga seems to model her career after Madonna, wasn't she paying attention?  Sure Madonna did a decent job in Desperately Seeking Susan, and even a good job in Evita (basically playing herself), but she's been eviscerated in all her other attempts.  I don't even dislike Gaga, but if she has a big role in the next season, I may be out.  I've tolerated the petulant Emma Roberts, the wooden Precious, and people who aren't so good but touch me (Taissa, Jamie), but I have my limit.  Can you even imagine how this season might have gone if Angela played the Countess?

Saw this in the recap:

Except, as far as she knew, hadn't that happened like eighty years ago, and they were still monthly-dinner-date pals? Isn't the only thing that changed from her perspective that instead of having killed Rudolph, he tortured him instead? I guess I shouldn't try to parse the Countess's personal hierarchy of cruelty.

I got the impression she didn't know what happened to Valentino, only that he disappeared. She only realized that March was behind it after they finally came out of the wall.

This season has been tough to watch.  I like all Ryan's pretty boy friends, ( and I think he deserved to let that fly high ) but something sure gets lost in AHS without Jessica Lange and Lily Rabe, more Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates..oops. That's all females. I love Evan Peters and Denis O'Hare.  Where's Frances Conroy? Uh, I think I'm just trying to say that the show being a bit more female centric seems to give way to more imaginative, oh, that's not right. All I'm saying is that something is missing big time from AHS Hotel.  For those of us who feel that way, I'm sure we all have different reasons.

Lady Gaga got a Golden Globe nod??? NOOO! Did I get that right? I know they announced SAG nominees and GG's recently.  Her acting on tonight's episode was painful. She hadn't really bothered me until they gave her a few too many lines.  Why do they always over look Evan Peters. Has he ever been nominated for AHS? He should have for, at the very least, the great AHS Asylum.

Well to be fair the GG are nothing more than a celebrity booze party that is televised. Those awards and nominations have no standing whatsoever. It's just the HFPA's way of being able to party w/ the biggest names in the entertainment industry, so don't take Gaga's nomination as some confirmation of her acting ability.

The first part of the episode I thought I was watching soft porn on Showtime.  How do they make it past the censors?  I guess since the Countess can't get the hotel legally by murdering Drake, the plan is that he disappears (behind the wall) and she takes in his son like the other kids, taking control of the hotel as his stepmother.  Glad they didn't forget the Little Rascals vampire gang.  Wonder how they plan on wrapping all this up if there's just one episode left.

Loved when Liz raised her hand and objected about the marriage;   "Ah, yeah...cause she's a bitch...." And he was wearing black too!

"Ignore her. She drinks."  Okay, I laughed.

But I cannot believe Gaga got nominated. I mean, she's not actually falling over or throwing up or anything but C'MON. She's adequate. That's about it. I get what Murphy was going for when he cast her but charisma doesn't necessarily cross from genre to genre. The more she talks, the more you get to know her, the more boring her story gets. Whereas somebody like Mare comes on and reveals one sliver of what she's got going on and you are entranced. If there's a theme this season it's "Men Are Fools." They throw over the Irises and Hazel Evers of the world because they want to hook up with flat, nasally Countesses no matter how many times it's demonstrated to them that she's an evil piece of trash.

The other theme seems to be abandoned children. Every now and then this show pays twenty seconds of homage to logic and rationality and Chloe pointing out how friggin' stupid it was to kill the pizza delivery guy was it--I was thinking that literal exact same thing when she voiced it. Too bad with all her worrying over the Lost Boys and Girls she can't be bothered to remember her daughter, but let's face it, Scarlett is well out of this.

I don't think the Countess understands how inheritance laws work. Just because she was married to a guy for less than an hour doesn't mean insurance companies and lawyers aren't going to come sniffing around a highly suspicious set of circumstances, especially if she's gonna be all "boo hoo hoo, I'm a widow." Hard to prove that with NO BODY, genius.

Oh, and couple more things: one, where did Ramona get her money? She's living large, there. I assume she robbed a few people along the way but if there's going to be backstory for a character the show forgot existed for weeks on end I'd rather it be that.

And two: the Countess's wedding gown was FUGLY. Just, hideous. This guy is a famous designer? Did he make that thing on Opposite Day?

Yup....let's not even pretend that this isn't just like real life either. Of course...a lot of women are the same way...trying for the "bad boy" they could never tame. ..but let's just keep it real. Men are really dumb when it comes to choosing the right woman. I chalk it up to the fact that humans are just another animal...and most animals pick mates based based solely off an initial attraction, not whether or not it will be a good lifetime match for them

Now that he is dead, won't he be able to walk right through the heavy steel door amd get out of the lockup? I mean, she talked about staying at the hotel for the rest of her days with Valentino, but wont Will Drake be there still in spirit? Also I more got the impression that she wasn't trying for insurance money or anything like that...just that she was going to stay married to him (in the eyes of the law) and just spend his money since it would all be community it property. No one will know he is dead so she will still have access to everything that is "theirs". That was my take on it. Edited by bblancobrnx

I think the vampire kids will be back. Maybe Madelyn will kill the other vampy kids, who knows. They can't leave us hanging like that. I wonder if they're spreading the measles as they go? Very interesting.

Dr Mom can go screw herself. I still hate her for what she's doing to John/Scarlett. Speaking of Scarlett, I think she'll come back and be the one to take out everyone. Okay, maybe just her dad. Hopefully her mom, too.

I couldn't help but laugh at March's glee when he took Will Drake to see Fetus Bart. Mrs. Evers was fantastic as well. I liked March saying his father told him to marry a homely girl. My grandpa always said the same thing. And I loved him giving the contractor pointers. He just cracks me up.

I did feel kind of bad for Will Drake. I feel worse for Lachlan, though. Poor guy has nobody looking out for him. He and Scarlett should burn the hotel to the ground and run off to some kids colony.

The Countess is going to try to kill Valentino's other love interest (I forget her name), who hopefully teams up with all the others trying to take the Countess down.

I am really annoyed that there's a break, then 3 more episodes. Ain't nobody got time for dat.

Good enough episode. In earlier episodes I would've felt sorry for Will but his stupidity ended up getting him killed in the end though. At least he can haunt the Countess though.

What was it with the narrations from both the Countess and Iris in this one?

Donovan getting sucked back into the Countess and betraying Ramona was somewhat annoying. I did like Ramona's backstory with her parents though.

Liz had some good zingers in this as did Miss Evers and March as well.

Vamp kids aren't interesting but at least Alex wanted to clean up her mess though, 7/10

Why is everyone surprised that there is a break? There is always two breaks for this show, one the week of Thanksgiving and the second in late December in order to stretch this series out longer than it needs to.

If anything, be more pissed that FX has pushed back the far superior show the Americans back from their usual February premier.

Re: the Countess and her pasties, I don't see what the big deal is. They can't show women's nipples on that network. Is it practical? Of course not. But she is a damn vampire who lives in a hotel full of vampires and ghosts. Pasties aren't the most unrealistic aspect of the show.

Also, "who would wear those?" I'm pretty sure Lady Gaga would.

But, all they had to do was clip a half second from the other version, to get rid of the quick boob shot at the end of the Countess' "ride", and you wouldn't have had either nipples or pasties. I suppose it could be worse. Nip/Tuck put bandaids over the nipple areas of mannequins. That was another Ryan Murphy show on the same network.
