Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

First hint that the snacks are a prop and not an actual purchase:  every single kid is holding the same dam*  bottle of sugary fake juice and 4 out of 6 chose the exact same snack.  They were clearly told to grab the first bottled drink and snack they saw and none of them got an actual choice.

When I was a kid, like 9 or 10, my dad used to take us to the corner store after church and give us each a quarter (don't laugh, you could get a great big Clark bar for a dime back in the olden days of the late '60's).  There were 5 of us and never once, ever, in dozens of trips did we all choose the exact same thing.  Not ever. We rarely had even two of us pick the same candy.  We pooled our excess fundage to purchase Archie comics, BTW; although my brother preferred Batman.

I remember pulling Mt Dew out of a machine for .10

Gabriel is 14 - turns 15 next May, does an older boy have to get married before he can move from the "littles" or is the Build a Bear for momma 15th bday party the defining moment?

6 kids in a store, no masks and they also brought the 2yr old's blanket in? I think that is what gabriel has on his shoulder since he is holding Janessa

@doodlebug, no laughing here. 25 cents could have bought 25 pieces of candy. Tootsie Rolls, Bazooka, Fireballs, Mary Janes (ew, mom liked them), butterscotch, etc.

I was still living in England when I was the age of any of those "littles", but  when we went down to the corner store, Mom always added sixpence to her shopping list for me, and I could get probably four blackjacks, a couple of flying saucers (or whatever they were called - a bit of fizzy powder encased in a disc shaped wafer. Loved them!), a gobstopper, and one of those fizzy sort of lollipops (which I would still kill for today!). If I was reeeallly good, I might get another tuppence for a small bag of crisps.

It hurts my heart that Timothy is buying a puppy (likely from an Amish breeder who are notorious, at least in Pennsylvania, for running horrible puppy mills). The dog will never get medical attention, probably get heartworm disease, be riddled with fleas and ticks, never get spayed or neutered, and never get fed enough while living in the trailer on parents' property.

Everything about these people is an absolute horrorshow.

One can only hope that somewhere in the midst of all the transitions he has experienced over the past year or two, that Timmy has found a heart for a companion animal. For all the horrible conditions reported in the Amish puppy mills, there are a lot of Cinderella stories among the people who ended up with rescues from those circumstances, and it's always possible that if he has ended up somehow living at least semi-independently, that Tim might find his puppy to be the sort of companion he never had growing up, and they will end up rescuing each other. I'm going to think positive for the moment!

Oh my God, this is so true! At my library every summer, for the summer program, we let the kids who have completed activities and reading goals choose vouchers for free ice cream at various local restaurants as prized. And the kids who are siblings almost never choose the same place. Even when their moms are like, "No really all of you pick the same thing, so we can just go to one place." So, yeah, such an obviously staged photo.

And they handle the packages and bottles with unwashed hands and then put the stuff back on the shelves. Jill wasn't about to shell out $20 for convenience store treats, but she's glad to leave some dirt and germs behind.

Looks like David has a good setup to view some porn--research for his sermons, of course.

My most recent pup, a Jack Russell mix, came from a rescue down in Amish country near New Philadelphia.  It was started by a vet tech who saw how the Amish treated dogs.  Even the ones not bred to be sold never got vaccinated or spayed and, if a dog has an unwanted litter, the Amish would often sell the pups for fighting or other abusive purposes if they didn't kill them outright.  The tech found out how much the Amish were getting for unwanted pups and started placing ads in the Amish newspapers offering cash for pups at 8 weeks.  Then, he and his wife and other volunteers foster the pups until they find homes.  They've been doing it for years and the wife told me they've never had a dog for more than 2-3 weeks.

https://www.h2erescue.com/puppies.php  They've had very few dogs for adoption during the pandemic.  Prior to that, they had 10-15 pups on the site all the time.

I doubt Tim has any idea what a puppy mill is, let alone why it is not a good idea to buy from them.  I'm sure he'll pay ridiculous money for a poorly bred dog.  Jill will no doubt want him to get something small and floofy that will look good when she poses for pictures with it.

That’s what I hope. And with Tim, I think it’s possible. He seems like he has the capacity to be kind and nurturing to an animal, and I’m sure the unconditional love and nonjudgmental companionship will do him a world of good. I feel bad for Tim, I don’t think he’s had it too easy.

I adopted a dog about a year ago, and it’s been a (sometimes) tough but incredibly rewarding experience. I love her like crazy, and she’s made my life so much better — especially during quarantine. Hopefully, Tim has the same experience!

And learning and growing by adopting a puppy is SO much more sensible than breeding for Jesus and spending the next couple decades stacking up neglected children like cordwood, gotta say.

JillRod mentioned the tiny puppies were blue heelers.  I googled and they are big Australian cattle dogs.  I hope Tim learns about good dog training skills.

My grandparents have owned blue heelers on and off for 20 years. (They're a very popular dog where I live because of their cattle herding skills--have a lot of beef farms here.) Blue heelers are great dogs, very smart and very loyal, but they are also very strong-willed and energetic. Not exactly a dog I would recommend for a new dog owner. They usually top out around 30 pounds. If they don't have something to do, they can go crazy. And as is true of a lot of herding dogs, they also often like to herd you if you're outside with them. I sincerely hope they're not an asshole to the dog when he acts like a blue heeler.

I can pick up team t-shirts at Target and Old Navy, so it’s not that expensive. There was one glorious trip to Target when I found 3 t-shirts in my size on clearance for $5.99. And of course Jill supports whatever team her headship does. I am surprised that David didn’t buy her one of the women’s t-shirts in pink, which the NFL rolled out several years ago to appeal to the ladies. But that probably cost more.

JillR's probably waiting for someone to mention the name change so she can go on some nonsensical rant about it.

David contributed to Jill’s Instagram post about that. That’s why I used pictures from her stories, instead.

I sent it to you, in case you’re interested in his thoughts. 😁

There is zero...ZERO chance that "David" is an "avid fan" of the Redskins. This is all Jill sending some sly message about how she's cool with the racist name of the team and has a case of the sads now that the name has been removed.

And instead of buying his wife some ugly, ill-fitting shirt she could one-off on Instagram, maybe he'd make a better investment using that money to FEED HIS OWN CHILDREN.

I took a closer look, and that is not a Target or Old Navy top.  It's an officially licensed jersey style that would have been a NFLShop exclusive and probably retailed in the $50-70 range if not more.  The tshirts through that channel start at $30.  I say this as someone who sports Browns and Indians gear purchased through different websites/stores.  There is a noticeable difference between the different styles.

On their blog, there are pictures of them in team sweatshirts, t-shirts, etc. from around 2014. Honestly, I expected Jill to make a post regarding the name when the announcement was made earlier in the year.

I think they can't afford to get whatever tv package they used to get so that David could watch football. Hence the post earlier this week about not having cable and now, how they can't enjoy watching football because the politically correct meanies took away their favorite team's racist name. According to David, they were using the name to root for and honor all indigenous people when they rooted for the team! Seriously, look at her Instagram story.

Well, I for one am thankful for that big red arrow pointing to David’s hooters with the word SOULMATE written in all caps. Otherwise, I may have mistaken that hunk for single and tried to slip him my number.

Okay Jill is really laying it on thick. The random “I just wanna git on here and tell y’alls about pornography” post from “Timothy” a while ago combined with all the “look at all the crap my husband bought me” posts seem like she’s trying to prove something to someone and I don’t think it’s Nurie.

Probably another DCF visit.

Yeah, David posted a diatribe about it the other day. Said half the reason he followed them was because of the name (!) and damn all this political correctness, etc. I would post it but it got political.

Considering IBLP is faltering, they might need her income to live on soon. Especially since the Bates show isn't doing too well in ratings.
