doodlebug, do you get hot with the weighted blanket? I'm interested in one but I tend to get hot off and on throughout the night. I also don't know how to determine what weight of blanket to get.

I also have a duvet due to a dog who thinks it's her job to jump on the bed several times a day. The bed is actually fairly high off the ground, but she's an acrobat. It is a bitch to wrestle on and off of the insert when I wash it.

My bed is sooo cozy!  I have a King Size Velvet like one side and Shepa other side comforter!  Fleece sheets that are warm as toast!

My bed is my paradise!

btw I posted about hubby having problems with his prescriptions.  Not true. The doctors office is now computerized to do refils and I was assured there would be no problem.

Hubby was trying to get his refills too early!

Your DIL sounds amazing, @Happyfatchick. I so hope the new specialist will be able to give her better news about the baby. Thank you for keeping us posted.
Your bed clothes wardrobe must be fabulous. We have one king comforter and two pillow shams. It never occurred to me to get more. But now I have bed envy. LOL

She IS amazing.  I swear she was raised by feral cats.  Or not.  They pretty much fended for themselves.  She has 2 siblings (one of the children she’s raising is her sister’s) and 2 living parents.  At one point in the last few years, I said (a lot) “every member of her immediate family is currently or has been in jail in the last 6 months”.  The sister is currently a guest in our neighboring county.  The mother has been out maybe 6 months.  MY DIL works for an attorney, is raising the 3 kids, is steadfast and loyal (maybe a little messy, but hey).  She’s will graduate next December with a degree in criminal justice.  (I also incidentally have a BIL with that degree.  A a principal in a high school).  She rocks the deans list every single semester.  She is flipping amazing. I tell her that all the time.  Oh, and yes, they sometimes berate her for being a goody two shoes because she’s always been clean.  (🖕)

and you have to be slick to be a bedclothes hoarder.  I’m not a high maintenance girl - I spend almost no money on clothes.  I need mascara - but when you wear it once a month, it’s hard to remember to buy it!  I don’t color my hair (been cut once since last March).  And this isn’t me in covid, this is literally me.  But.  Ok, so I have quilts (nice ones) stacked to the ceilings on my closet shelf.  A quilt case of hand quilted ones about 3/4 full.  3 or 4 (or 6) in process downstairs... and I STILL just wander through occasionally to see what’s out there... I helped someone move once and made fun of their bedding stash.  Can’t do that any more.   I’ve recently discovered good quality sheets.... 😳

And here’s me, making the bed in the guest room.  That fat ass dog sitting on the floor at the end of the bed, watching my every move.  I make the bed, smooth it, fluff the pillows... she’s watching watching watching.  And I lay a folded coral blanket over the bottom half of the bed (which isn’t part of my design but beats the alternative).  And the minute I let go of the corners, she jumps up there.  Thirty minutes later, the coral blanket is bunched up and moved aside and she’s giving me side eye about her place in the kingdom.  True story.

No, I thought I would, so I specifically looked for one that advertised being 'cool' and made of 'breathable' fabric by the manufacturer.  My sister, who had one and loved it, tipped me off.

Amazingly, it is heavy, but not hot.  It certainly keeps me warm, but I bought it in the summer and used it from the first day without a problem.

I got it from Amazon and it is made by YnM; although I can't find the exact one I have on the site right now.  Also, mine is made for a double bed even though I have a queen and it is plenty big enough (another helpful sister tip),  And, despite the recommendations for weight, I went lower and got a 15 lb one.  It pays to have a lot of sisters who are willing to test new products and make recommendations.

HFC, your dog story is exactly the reason why the doors to my two spare bedrooms are always closed.  My nicer guest bedroom has a handmade Amish quilt which was a gift from my beloved aunt and, any dog that values their life knows better than to lay a paw on it.

I got my first Covid vaccine on Friday.  My arm and neck were a little sore for about 36 hours, but that was it.  I'm a nurse in an assisted living and I was so happy that all the residents agreed to get the vaccine.  No one reported any fever or major side effect from the first dose.  We've been very fortunate to not have an outbreak where I work, and this should hopefully keep it that way.  Things are definitely looking brighter where I am.

I don’t.  I don’t hate ANYTHING pregnant or little kid in pics.  Last year, mr friend from high school who has lots of land (and lives amidst a compound setting Not unlike mine) and her husband planted a whole field (3-4 acres) in sunflowers.  Then a friend in photography made a unicorn out of a horse and took toddler pics out there.  Gag if you must:  I looooooved it.  And my own granddaughter is going to wear a ballet dress with a unicorn pic as soon as we can schedule.  Haters beware:  I don’t CARE!!! Say what you want, make whatever face you must:  I dont CARE!!!

we’ve had incredibly bad news in our family.  My DIL went for her halfway ultrasound yesterday and was given to understand she will NOT be delivering (at BEST) a healthy baby.  Most likely, she won’t be having a live birth.  We are devastated.  And we’ve already lost a full term baby, unexpectedly, several years ago.  How does this happen???  How many babies does one family lose?  Isnt there some limit on this???  So discouraging.  I am so broken hearted.
also, within an hour of hearing that news, I learned that I’d lost a dear friend in the hospital.

I'm very sorry for what your son and dil are going through, @Happyfatchick. Two of my 3 sisters have delivered full-term stillborn babies, 10 years apart. We also questioned why that would happen to our family twice. My mom thought perhaps it was simply that there were 4 of us girls, with 3 pregnancies each. Differing explanations for each loss, so Mom may be right. It was truly heartbreaking. I still think of my niece and nephew often. I'm sorry for the loss of your dear friend too.

😞 Btw, I would treasure beautiful pics of my babies in a field of sunflowers. Heck, I'd treasure beautiful pics of my adult kids in a field of sunflowers!

@Happyfatchick Hugs to you and your son and DIL. I hope you are able to hear promising news from the specialist.
Hugs to @lookeyloo too. It's always good to hear from you.

So today I have the joy of my birthday landing on a national holiday my office doesn't observe. LOL. It's not that bad...it's been a quiet day, and I ordered myself a piece of cake from Cheesecake Factory to go with my lunch. Because I can.

Thank you! I actually got regular cake...chocolate with a fudge icing. I think it was called Linda's? They gave me three big puffs of whipped cream with it too. 🙂

Friends- I just got a call from my god mother. She’s asking me to take her dog for a couple of days due to her infusions. Her husband’s back went out so he can’t get walked and I live on the other side of town, so she asked me to take him.

I do have plastic bags and I’ll need to get him a dog bowl and some food for him. Anything else I should keep here for the time being? (I’ve dog sat but always at the dog’s residence- thanks)

Scarlett45, does he sleep in a crate at night or on a big pillows? Make sure you get his bedding and any medication he might need. You might also get his vet's number, in case of emergencies.

@Scarlett45 He might appreciate having a favorite toy or two with him as well.

Yes I have all his vet info already. My friend that lives near by has a bunch of extra dog stuff (from their lab that passed away two years ago, that they kept because they still have a dog), she’s gathering it up for me and leaving it on the porch. I’ll get it tomorrow during my lunch break.

he sleeps in the kitchen on a big pillow, and no medications right now. I’m glad he knows what I smell like so he won’t be scared.

Be sure and get his harness if he uses one and his leash.  A few dog treats won't hurt.

He’s GORGEOUS. He looks like a pretty mellow boy, so he’ll probably roll with it just fine. Has he met your sister or your mom?

Yes he's met my Mom several times. My sister no...not planning on introducing them any time soon. I have my own unit on the second floor, in Chicago we call them 2flats, in most parts of the country they are duplexes- they are one unit on top of another rather than side to side. So my strategy for this visit is to have him hang out in the bedroom/office with me, and continue to let Blake have free run of the house. (Blake isnt allowed in here while im working because he wants to sit on my lap and I cannot type that way).

@Scarlett45 , if possible get something that has his owners sent on it ( have her rub a towel over her arms ) and put that on his bed so he can find comfort in her smell.

Great idea.

Glad we have tomorrow off from school. Although I wish we would have just had the 3 days in a row. One day on and one day off isn't conducive for learning.

Making tacos for dinner. Since it's taco Tuesday and for me, it's comfort food. And my kids love making their own.

The DC area is tense. Planning on spending tomorrow watching movies. My husband is off tomorrow too.

The baby is gone.  DIL had her specialist APPT today, but she already had a feeling going in.  Just last night she texted me that the baby was moving and she felt encouraged.  But she knew today before they told her.  So they’re at the hospital being induced.  😢

ive mentioned before that we’d already lost a baby.  Just so happens today would have been her 16th birthday.  Soooo.  Woot.

I'm so sorry. That's just unbelievably hard.  I know how hard it is. I had a stillborn daughter at 8 months. I knew something was wrong with her. Going to get induced sucked. Heartbreaking isn't a strong enough word for it. Virtual hugs for all of you. You're in my prayers. 😞
