Just started watching this on DVR, and already I can’t wait to see Brandon’s and Nina’s reactions when they ask Anna what the inspiration of her design is. Same with Christian, for that matter.

That’s…different, for sure. 😁

EDIT: SO glad Anna edited. Poor Fabio. I’m no fashion expert, but I knew he was a goner when he was in the workroom. To me, that look was way too feminine for a male model, and just looked terrible. Look up “mindfuck” in the dictionary, and there’s a picture of Fabio. His confidence was gone. 🙁

Yeah. To me, Rami’s was much more compelling.

I agree - I thought that Rami's was much more in keeping with the challenge.  It looked like a beautiful dress with underwear-ish elements.

Kara Saun's looked too much like lingerie to me.  With the feathers, etc., it looked like an old-fashioned peignoir.

Kara Saun's was very pretty, but to me, Rami's was stunning.  I would wear that in a heartbeat ~~  if I was 5'10" tall, thin, size two 20-something ~~ instead of a 5'2" short, average, size six 60-something.  🤣

(Also, so much for anonymous runways when you plaster your name on the waistband of your model's underwear. With the way the designers talk and cheer and have signatures, they really ought to just give up the conceit of an anonymous runway. It's impossible in practice.)

I think I read somewhere in the past (possibly here) that the runway is filmed twice. Once, truly anonymously with no reaction from the designers (or possibly with the designers not even there) and once with the designer interaction.

Stories about clothing. Stories about food. None of these PR/Chopped stories is particularly interesting and frequently are attempts at a tear-jerking advantage. Enough. Best look and best taste win. This trend sucks.

No kidding. If you actually wore some of these awful outfits out, would you wear a sign on the back explaining the story behind it.

The first thing I said when Kara Saun’s model walked out was that it did not fit well.  My SIL said that Fabio’s look reminded him of a Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake and he was right about that.  I had very high hopes of that nasty ass Korto getting aufed but alas, not to be.  I’d have given the win to Rami.

I do recall one season when the Tim Gunn save wasn’t revealed until the beginning of the next episode so I have hope for Fabio.

Interesting that the 2 top looks were the most typically 'feminine' and pretty.

I was mystified at Kara Saun's attempt to connect 'Tulsa Massacre' with 'Underwear as Outerwear'. JMO, but that seemed vaguely disrespectful to me. But apparently we must have some kind of 'struggle' story to capture the judges sympathy.

So agree. I did not understand the Tulsa reference either, especially with the light and flowy nature of the dress. I remember several seasons ago where a judge called out a contestant for a long, drawn-out story explaining the design, which added nothing. The creation should speak for itself.

Rami’s design, far and away, was better.

If I want storytime, I’ll pick up a book.

Yes, I've heard that when the designers are doing their whooping and clapping, the judges aren't there. I'm too lazy to try and see whether the camera angles support that (or at least don't blow that idea up).

Yes, I remember reading that as well. Maybe from an interview in the PR Media thread? I'm too lazy to figure it out either, ha ha.

I've always wondered how much time there is between the designers getting their last tweaks in before the runway and the actual runway show. It has to take awhile to photograph the models and print the cards (or affix photos to preprinted cards?) that the judges hold during the runway and while judging.

Remember when that was a frequent criticism the judges levied?

Times certainly have changed.

What is 1920s about Kara Saun's outfit?

I didn't think it belonged in the top, much less the win. It was ill fitting. As someone said above, it was more 1930s Carole Lombardish. And bringing in the Tulsa Massacre? I have no words . . ..

I didn't like Laurance's suit at all. It certainly had nothing to do with the challenge (and should have lost for that reason alone) but I hated the color, the lapels, and mostly the vest/cumberbundwhateverthehellitwas. Awful.

Rami got robbed. That is all.

Kara Saun’s was a costume, but I thought it was beautiful. Rami’s was so cool and gorgeous I was instantly taken to a sexy, romantic place.
Korto’s was awful, her model did it no favors. “I should win because I’m me,” is a bad attitude, Korto.

I was only half-watching, so I don't have too much to add.

  • I hate one day challenges.
  • Korto's look was worse than Fabio's garment. It's fine. I know how reality tv works
  • I try to be impartial as possible, but I get so much joy when Kara Saun does well. That being said, I think Rami's look was superior.
  • As a person that wears jock straps in my personal life, I was disappointed not to see one on the runway
  • I was amused when I saw Laurence's model checking out Anna's model when he stripped down in the workroom. He was trying not to stare, but couldn't help himself.
  • Brittany saying she wants to marry high-end couture with sportswear, just seems... unnecessary. I don't know. It might be fine for the ESPY's, but I think Lululemon might be high fashion enough.
  •  just from the end bit, I think Brandon would make a better mentor than Christian.

Fabio seems like a lovely person, and I’m sad to see him go.  Can someone explain, though, why he frequently dresses like a house elf?  I get it, the designers have their own aesthetics which are pretty out there to a normie like me, but I usually get what they’re going for.  Fabio’s workroom schmattas are just *sad*.  Dobby has more style, once he’s got Harry’s sock!

Since they've grabbed onto this concept like a dog with a bone, insisting on entertaining and at times initiating designs with a message...

Maybe they could contain that mess by limiting it to one challenge each season to show wearable fashion that indicates to the world you're  in  support of whatever issue, cause or group. Something that replaces a tee shirt with a slogan.

That way all the  contestants would  be doing it at the same time and  they could talk to their heart's content about the issues they care so deeply about and then we wouldn't have to hear it anymore for the rest of the season.

IDK, that's all I've got. Quarantine   it, I mean limit it to one week.

If it were within my power, I'd nix that message in the design BS altogether.

For now, make it one challenge. If I could only figure out how to incorporate all the tears falling from the mamas missing their babies in the same week. 🤔

I blame Nina for Fabio leaving.  Got that man questioning everything so he turns out that ugly garment.  Can we please keep the guest judge and Paulina and let Nina stay whereever she was this week?

My new headcanon is that they're using this season to vet a new judging panel, with Wes Gordon in the designer slot and Paulina as the new Heidi. (I can dream, although that would explain why the guest judges have been somewhat better than usual lately.)

I came into this season rooting for Korto, Kayne, and Laurence, and now I think I want an F3 of Kara Saun, Rami, and...IDK, Bishme if he gets rid of the dumb sleeves, Prajje if he doesn't.

To be fair, Anna is quite beautiful, although not the most beautiful woman in the world. In their own way Laurance, Kara Saun, and Brittany are also beautiful.  Nina and Elaine are beautiful.  There are so many definitions of beauty.

I’m not making a statement on anyone’s beauty- this is about Anna and her overinflated ego. She’s the one who said she’s the most beautiful this episode, and has made similar comments many other times.

I'm not a particular fan of Anna, but I think she was more talking about how becoming a mother made her *feel* more beautiful. I'm not at all endorsing the point of view that motherhood makes one "more of a woman," but I think that's how she feels about herself. I don't think she was seriously saying she's the most beautiful woman in the world; that was just her internal "beauty meter" getting a big bump.

Yes, I remember that as well.  I kept wondering while reading this if I misheard Christian.   There was even a scene of the contestants backstage with one of  them  asking if Christian would use his save on the week's loser (I forget who).  Maybe Christian did say "no immunity."

Yeah, I was cringing into the sofa. I believe there is some study somewhere that lists "panty" as one of the most hated words in English. I know many people who scream and cover their ears at the utterance of it.

Big white granny underwear as a symbol of the Tulsa massacre and a winning look. You cannot make this up.

Word to everyone suggesting we just get the sob stories over with in one challenge. Make your crappiest design now and then use a sob story to save yourself. Most on trend sobfest with a point of view wins. Hint to Anna: the mom thing is waaaaay past its prime. Needs to be freshened up, though I don't think bleeding drooping boobs is exactly the twist we're looking for. But props for creativity?

Greer for the win. She's still taking on the world with her bold, loud Pilot pens and not sobbing at her desk about how the pens make her think of the railroad spikes that killed her second removed cousin in 1880 because 'Murrca. Or something.

Korto having to announce it was her first time in the bottom was yet another eyerolling moment from me for her this season.

Rami was robbed and I cannot stand the judges chatter when the designs are coming down the runway. Shut. Up.

Wasn’t there a finalist a few years ago that did climate change ad nauseam? His runway was showing the gradual melt of the polar cap? I can see him, but can’t recall his name.

I’m sure these causes are deeply held, but they just don’t translate well to most of the challenges. I kind of felt the same about Praje and the Haiti number, and Bishme’s use of that idea in the next challenge about his sister. Just didn’t get the feels…sorry. Sometimes a dress is just a dress, and underwear is just underwear. This strikes me a judge pandering.

Like your idea. I hope I never see this iteration of the underwear challenge again. Not enjoyable. YMMV.

I can get into this, as I believe Elaine and her family now live on the West Coast. Paulina was one of the best things about ANTM and would make a terrific host. Agreed that the guest judges, for the most part, have provided decent critical input. And personally, I'd love to just listen to Sergio Hudson every judging panel.

Replace Elaine with Sergio — but, really, a potted plant would be an improvement.

I really liked Sergio’s manner of talking to the designers and offering his critiques.

I liked Kara Saun's. I didn't think it was as ill fitting as a lot of outfits we've seen, and when Sergio mentioned how little "give" there was in the fabric she used for the panty, I was really impressed. KS also had the only larger model, too, right? I loved the cream with the model's hair, and I think she (the model, name?) was feeling it, too.

Not a fan of Rami's because I hate pastel fabric with black lace trim -- a personal quirk -- and those chain straps had to be hella uncomfortable. She must have had some scrapes from them after the runway.

Sigh. Fabio knew who his model was before they went to Mood. Doesn't he realize how bad that orange looks on pale skinned people? I know I avoid it like the plague. But wrong color or not, that design had too much going on. After Nina told him to pump it up, that was a sad aufing.

That said, Korto really deserved to go -- that was a real DGAF. No one seems to know how to flatter DD. Laurence did her usual impeccable tailoring, but that had zipedeedoodah to do with the challenge. He looked like he had broken ribs and was wearing an Ace bandage.

Anna is just exhausting.

I forget who the designer was in a past season, but I remember one who would sew explicit messages into the clothes and be all about the message in a way that is completely irrelevant to how the clothes looked. Like once he sewed the names of five kids who were refugee migrants who had died into a skirt and cried on the runway explaining it.

This was with the original judges, I think. I'd hate to think that that type of BS would have a receptive audience with the judges now.

Forgot to mention that before halfway through the episode, we knew Fabio was out. He had what seemed like at least 40% of the screen time. The Magical Elves have gotten better about telegraphing things but that was pretty heavy handed editing.

Totally was seeing "granny panties," plus a complete lack of color, in Kara Saun's dress.  Didn't they auf Nora in the first episode because Kara Saun got her to switch models, and the bland, colorless fabric she'd picked for her own model did Kara Saun's original model no favors?

I liked the somewhat ethereal top, hated the bottom.  And agree with every single person upthread who is totally over designers pulling in random stories to yank on the judges' heartstrings.  It's a freaking dress on a freaking runway, not solving racism, curing cancer or bringing world peace.

For me, didn't matter if Fabio's outfit was made for a man or a woman.  It would have looked hideous on either.

I don't think they've ever had a "Save" on All-Stars seasons, just like they've never had immunity.  And what happened to the big prize that was supposed to go to the winner each episode as a consolation for no immunity?  Some weeks they get ten grand and other weeks they get nothing.

Re: DD…they have a masculine face and body, so I think it’s difficult to work with that within the designer’s esthetic…too feminine, and they look like they’re wearing a costume, and too masculine and they look like a man.  I also think they’re tough to fit for someone used to making women’s clothing.  It would be great if one of the designers could make something fantastic for them.

Well I am very confused. I remember both of these things being brought up and still I thought there was still a Christian save and immunity.

I want Paulina brought back next year as a judge. She could give sooo much real life runway feedback during judging about fashion and insider information about what the contestants models need to make their designs work. She could replace Elaine. I wouldn't want Nina to go (minority opinion I think, I like Nina). She brings more of a fashion magazine perspective in my opinion, which is needed. So Brandon for designer, Nina for print, Paulina for runway.

Thank you a bazillion for house elf. It has been bugging me since his season what to call it. He is okay as a person but I have never liked anything he designed. Also I think he, along with every other designer that has used theirs this season so far, has brought terrible from home fabric and used it in the wrong episode.

Karli Kloss would have rocked out Rami's look. Also to the poster who mentioned the puckering/judges praising. The judge said they saw "very little puckering, which was hard to pull off with that fabric". So the judges did see it but it was so minimal added in with the time constraints, I think they thought it was worth overlooking in judging.

Since I am off on Elaine as usual I will ask. I have always thought she went to the Carole Radziwill school of try to be cool when you're not.  She is like Hello fellow this year cools. What has set me off now is the ridiculous way she sits in her chair this season. Slumping down so far that she is lounging. Pulling her leg up so her knee is next to her face and resting her elbow on it. Leaning sideways with her legs splayed open and her arm slung around the back of the chair.  I expect before the season is over that she will swing the chair around backwards and attempt to face the runway forwards. She just irks me with everything.

Also, did Brandon introduce her this week? He said Nina gone, did the other two judges but I think he didn't say anything about Elaine.  I might have missed it.

When he was talking to Brittany that evening telling her that he didn’t know if he had it in him to keep going, that was it. Other designers have said the same, but with him you knew he meant it. He was just so demoralized after the ‘90s challenge that it was sad to watch.

I’ve been thinking what he could have done. He could have let those straps have more prominence, and cut way back on the skirt, or whatever it was. The design was a fail from the start, frankly, mainly because of the wrong fabric and the wrong model.

I also think Christian's critique messed up Fabio...I think after Christian tore apart his outfit was when he added the strange stomach fabric.  The judges even complimented the shorts which Christian criticized.  Again...editing.
