Week 40: 0/5
Fri.: Not the Mississippi; Thurs: House Un-American Activities [?]; Wed.: (Illya Kuriakin) David [?]; Tues.: image.png.630c134ff3b3f3f41be17691baff46d6.png  [?]; Mon.: Not Athena

I bring deviled eggs:

Deviled eggs are my favorite. One time I was at an outdoor wedding in October - it was very cold, in the 30s - so it was the only time I ever ate them over several hours without worrying about them going bad.

Ahh, but I thought it...

3 this week; neither *.  I wonder if Kuryakun is the most common wrong answer in a while?  Seems like it!

At least here it was, for sure!🤣

I was sure I was the only one who was going to miss FJ because I couldn’t think of David McCallum’s last name. (“Illya Kuryakin“ was my insta-wrong.)

I missed that the category was TV & FILM CHARACTERS. 🙃

3/5 with both *

I got as far as Anti in Monday, and knew Un-American Activities and knew it was an acronym but didn’t get any further than that. If I had gotten Friday wrong my New Orleanian card would have been taken away!

Chargrilled oysters. Not from Lake Pontchartrain, but there are so many restaurants on the lake to chill with seafood, live music, and a cocktail

Week forty: three of five, none of the asterisks!

Darn you, Ilya Kuryakin!

I just tried a new recipe, Tuscan Shrimp Pasta, with loads of garlic and onion and spinach and shrimp, and a creamy buttery sauce over angel hair. I'll bring that, if someone else will bring the mouthwash!

4/5 with one * - couldn't get my brain to Pontchartrain in time (I was in more northern climes in my brain even though I should have known better from the explorer's name).

There was some point where I had to read the play Antigone more than once so got that plus Travolta and HUAC pretty easily.  I initially said Illya first but then the premiere date seemed wrong, and I got to Chekov at the very last second.

Still having a lack of food imagination (everybody's contributions sound yummy) so I will bring vodka and mixers in honor of Illya & Pavel.

167.*   Entertainers - In 2022 Jeff Bezos awarded her $100 million to give to charitable causes because "she gives with her heart"

168.*   The Olympics - This sport that made its Olympic debut in 1988 has a playing surface of only about 45 square feet (PING PONG ACCEPTED)

169.     World of Water - The Bass Strait divides Tasmania & mainland Australia & hydrographers have disputed which of these 2 larger bodies it's part of

170.     The 19th Century - In 1823 he wrote, "in the war between those new governments and Spain we declared our neutrality"

171.     Female Authors - At age 9 in 1883 she moved west, where she met Annie Pavelka, a young pioneer on whom she would later model a title character

After 2 consecutive weeks of 0/5,
preceded by 2 weeks of 1/5,
this is at least a relief:

Week 41: 2/5
(Wed.: the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean; Fri.: Willa Cather)

I'm crediting my relative success with returning to the practice of the "time for a 10 minute nap" honed during my many years of being able to go home for my (literal) lunch hour.

Since sandwiches have 2 slices of bread, I'll bring a variety of fixings.

And since it's now summer:

  • The mayonnaise will be in the ice chest.
  • And to further avoid tummy upsets:
Do not double-dip your spreading knives without thoroughly first removing any possible crumb or other transfer.

Week 41: 1/5, no *

YTD: 76/205, eleven *, two C *

I almost came up with table tennis/ping pong and Monroe, but didn't. I knew Cather because of an upcoming trip. We may include her house/museum in Red Cloud, NE, in a trip in late July.

I'll be posting about the trip in Non-Show Chat, because we plan to visit the Kit Carson County Carousel in Colorado.

Just 1/5. I’ll bring a slice of Key Lime pie for whoever would like to join the table.

A slice is not nearly enough!

3/5 no *

I originally guessed Oprah for Monday then thought no, Bezos would not give $$ to Oprah, then went with Lady  GaGa. Did not even think of my queen Dolly. Guessed handball for Tuesday, but was so proud of myself for getting Monroe. I always forget about Monroe!

A friend of mine sent some homemade nectarine jam to us and my daughter made drop biscuits, so homemade biscuits & nectarine jam for all 😋

Managed 4/5 with 2*.  Dolly I was reasonably certain of but table tennis was a long shot guess that paid off.  I recently rewatched Martin Clunes' Islands of Australia which helped me picture the area well (side note - I would recommend any of his Islands of programs - I think they are on Acorn - good travel porn, informative but fun) and I think I would have had to turn in my W&M history degree if I hadn't gotten Monroe.

I am embarrassed to admit I haven't read Willa Cather so my brain was going all over the place to other authors who didn't fit.  I think I finally landed on Lucy Maud Montgomery just to have an answer and for that I blame Murdoch Mysteries.

I will bring some pitchers of iced tea in case some folks don't want bloody mary (but I will happily join @30 Helens).

173.     19th Century Literature - In 1896 new spider species were named for a wolf, a panther & a snake from a work published 2 years earlier by this man

174.     The Medical World - He created a chest drain valve that aided breathing in wounded soldiers in Vietnam but is better known for a lifesaving measure

I guessed Saudi Arabia for Friday.

Sno-balls for all in this heat. My favorite is rainbow (strawberry, bubblegum, & vanilla). My tastes haven’t changed since I was 6 lol

The easy/intuitive one:

  • [Wednesday]  He created a chest [***** *****] that aided breathing in wounded soldiers in Vietnam but is better known for a lifesaving measure

(Who was Heimlich?)

My son-in-law has grown an abundance of lettuce again this year. I'll bring some back when I go there on Sunday.

3/5.  Bringing heirloom tomatoes to go with Shapeshifter's lettuce.

Will you be picking up the heirloom tomatoes from the Farmers' Market as seen on Thursday's show? I have some planted in the garden - hope they turn out as well.

2/5 this week 0*. Much better than last week's 0/5
