Nobody will come close to Angela's portrayal of Nellie Lovett! She blows Helena's version out of the water! No one came close to Angela's version! It's like that remake version of The Manchurian Candidate with Meryl Streep! Come on! Angela VS Streep!?! We know which was the better choice...

I've seen community theater and college theater productions that had a better Mrs. Lovett than Helena was.  But I totally agree that Angela's version is the gold standard.

Who's Angela?

Angela Lansbury, who brilliantly played Eleanor (she was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar) in the original film adaptation of The Manchurian Candidate.

Angela Lansbury is also the actor who played Mrs. Lovett in the original theatrical production of Sweeney Todd and was also brilliant in that role and won a Tony as best featured actress.  I suspect that even HBC would agree that Angela's portrayal was superior.

Yes, sorry - I'd read that exchange last night, and when the question was asked this morning, I just remembered the comparison of Lansbury's and Streep's performances in the two Manchurian Candidate films, forgetting it had started with comparing Lansbury's and Carter's performances in Sweeney Todd.

Will third time for her and 2nd for him prove the charm for newly engaged couple Christina Haack (formerly Mrs. El Mousa and Mrs. Antstead) and Joshua Hall? Only time will tell. ..

I know they now claim that they've met quite a few times at real estate events, but the next Mr. Christina was still married to the previous wife, and living together (who knows what the arrangements were) until at least February, when he got divorced, and later moved to L.A.    They've only been publicly dating since July.      I guess we know what the storyline will be on the next season of her design show, with another remodel, another wedding, and maybe another baby.   I wonder where she finds the time with her multiple TV shows, multiple houses, and everything else.

If her subsequent shows are like the original, with her and the first husband, was during the brief time I watched, she implements the same basic design in every single home.  So that would leave her with plenty of time on her hands.

I don't really know how real her relationships, or this one in particular, are based on the tweets and hashtags.  But she just got divorced less than a year ago now going on her 3rd marriage. It's her life, but somehow the 'infinite' symbol tweets don't seem too genuine at the very least.

She says this guy gives her a kind of 'teenage love'  feeling, which is probably the only thing I believe because based on her comments and social media she is a 38 year old teenager.

Her poor kids:  Yet another new house and stepdad.  I'm guessing she'll have a fancy wedding followed by another divorce in less than two years.

Makes me think of Megan Fox calling Machine Gun Kelly her "soulmate" She's a 35 year old mother of 3, & she talks like a 15 year old girl with her first boyfriend. I get the same kind of vibe from Christina Haack.

I hated the part in that article where it was said that the family was saying they'd have to "resort to cremating him" if they didn't get more donated money. I checked the GFM that's linked to in that article which is over $20,000. Why do they think he or anyone deserves a funeral that costs that much or more? Cremation isn't a bad thing and framing it that way to gain sympathy pisses me off.

Agree!  Hubby and I are both planning on getting cremated.  We don't see the point of a casket and being laid to rest in the ground.

No one is obligated to give to a GFM account.  Even if someone was a fan, that doesn't obligate them to give to your GFM account and to call them "fake fans" is BS.  He's 55 so I'm assuming his kids are grown.  Why does anyone need to support someone else's grown kids and their kids (grandchildren)?

Happy 100th Birthday to Betty Reid Soskin!

From the New York Times article:

Betty Reid Soskin, who turns 100 on Sept. 22, is the oldest active ranger in the National Park Service. Over the past decade and a half, she has become both an icon of the service and an unlikely celebrity, drawing overflow crowds to talks and a steady stream of media interviewers eager for the eloquent words of an indomitable 5 feet 3 inch great-grandmother once described by a colleague as “sort of like Bette Davis, Angela Davis and Yoda all rolled into one.”

There's nothing wrong with being cremated, but I for one really don't want to be cremated and would resent someone not following my wishes. I've already told my family to expect to be haunted if they cremate me or do an open casket.

That being said, I'd also resent my family trying to get other people to pay for my funeral. There's a lot of things gross about that GoFundMe, but someone just not wanting to be cremated in general is not one of them.

Yeah, they are $4,000 and some change over the $20,000, it is time to close it out....oh I forgot, there needs to be more for 'ongoing support for his children and grandchildren'.

My sister just passed unexpectedly in August.  The basic cremation, if you don't want a viewing first and them having to make the body presentable for said viewing, was UNDER 2K.   And that included a few copies of the death certificate.   Now you can get fancy schmancy with the Urns and we may do that.    But they also have just really nice basic boxes with a nice engraved label on them for a couple hundred.   So even 4K is a LOT.

Oh and we found out you are specifically told you can't put pop rocks or fireworks in with the body before its cremated (not that we would but it did spark an interesting discussion with the mortuary lady).

TOPIC:   If ya'all can't afford the big to do funeral, well just like a wedding, you have what you can afford.  Begging on Go Fund Me is just tacky.

Yeah, I don't think there's anything wrong if you have a specific way that you want your death handled.  But if you know you want to go a certain way, then I think its up to you to make sure you have the funds set aside to pay for it and it shouldn't be a burden put on your family.

Now with that being said, I don't know if his family wants a huge funeral with fancy caskets because he was a "celebrity" or not.  He might be fine with a simple casket and simple service.

My husband and I were having a related conversation recently; one where I stated that I was certain that cemetaries would likely cease to exist at some point in the foreseeable future, imo. I can understand why some may be wholly opposed to the idea, but barring some religious objections, I'm pretty sure crematoriums are the future (irony noted).

I wonder what part of her body she had this done on that she considers herself to be unrecognizable? And what kind of surgeries did she have to fix it? This just seems really odd to me, did she have this done on her face?

Typically coolsculpting is done on the abdomen and thighs.  Places where fat accumulates as you age. I dont think the face is ever done or allowed with it.

And her experience is not uncommon for this procedure.  A known potential complication.

Supermodel Linda Evangelista Says Cosmetic Procedure Left Her ‘Disfigured’

The ’90s-era supermodel said side effects from a fat-freezing procedure caused her to become depressed and turned her into a recluse after “not looking like myself any longer.”

By Christine Hauser

Sept. 23, 2021Updated 3:19 p.m. ET

Linda Evangelista, the supermodel made famous in the 1990s, said she had become “brutally disfigured” and “unrecognizable” after a cosmetic body-sculpting procedure that had turned her into a recluse.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, she referred to filing a lawsuit, saying that she was taking “a big step towards righting a wrong that I have suffered and have kept to myself for over five years.”

She added: “To my followers who have wondered why I have not been working while my peers’ careers have been thriving, the reason is that I was brutally disfigured by Zeltiq’s CoolSculpting procedure which did the opposite of what it promised.”

Ms. Evangelista, 56, said that after the fat-freezing procedure she developed paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, a side effect in which patients develop firm tissue masses in the treatment areas.

She said the cosmetic procedure left her “permanently deformed even after undergoing two painful, unsuccessful, corrective surgeries.” She said she had not been told of the risk.

“PAH has not only destroyed my livelihood, it has sent me into a cycle of deep depression, profound sadness, and the lowest depths of self-loathing,” she wrote. “In the process, I have become a recluse.”

Ms. Evangelista, who was known as one of the five top supermodels in the 1990s, detailed her story on Instagram, where she has 912,000 followers and where thousands of people commented or expressed support. Her story was also widely covered in international and national media outlets.

Ms. Evangelista filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against Zeltiq Aesthetics Inc., in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The suit said she was seeking compensatory damages of $50 million for her distress and loss of work, promotions and public appearances.

Representatives for the company did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Thursday. A lawyer for Ms. Evangelista was not immediately available for comment.

The lawsuit said Ms. Evangelista had seven treatments from August 2015 through February 2016 to break down fat cells in her abdomen, flanks, back and bra area, inner thighs, and chin. Within a few months, she developed “hard, bulging, painful masses under her skin in those areas,” it said, and was given a diagnosis of PAH in June 2016.

The filing said her quality of life, her career and her body “were all ruined in 2016 after she was permanently disfigured” by the procedure and the multiple attempts at corrective surgery that followed.

“Ms. Evangelista enjoyed a wildly successful and lucrative modeling career from 1984 through 2016, until she was permanently injured and disfigured by Zeltiq’s CoolSculpting System,” the lawsuit said.

The suit accused the company of having “intentionally concealed” the risks or “failed to adequately warn” about them, and said Ms. Evangelista developed depression and a fear of going outside.

Ms. Evangelista had full body liposuctions after the diagnosis by a doctor referred to her by Zeltiq in 2016 and 2017, but the procedures were unsuccessful and resulted in scarring, the lawsuit said.

“Ms. Evangelista was promised a more contoured appearance; instead, the target fat cells actually increased in number and size and formed hard, bulging masses under her skin,” it said.

According to CoolSculpting, its procedure has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of visible fat bulges.

In response to questions, the F.D.A. said in an email that it could not comment on litigation, but that it was “committed to ensuring medical devices are safe and effective and that patients can be fully informed when making personal health decisions.” It said that it monitors reports from consumers of adverse events after a device reaches the market and would “take action where appropriate.”

Cryolipolysis, the name of the nonsurgical fat-freezing procedure, uses cold temperature to break down fat cells, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

It is mostly used by patients who want to reduce a specific fat bulge that they have been unable to diminish through other means. Generally, the area of concern is “vacuumed” into the hollow of an applicator, where it is subjected to cold temperature.

The surgeons’ society said the complication rate was low, with less than 1 percent of patients who may develop paradoxical fat hyperplasia, which is an unexpected increase in the number of fat cells. The side effect is more common in men than in women, the society said.

Ms. Evangelista also said that the public scrutiny of her appearance had harmed her emotionally. “I have been left, as the media has described, ‘unrecognizable,’” she said.

Very unfortunate situation. But, I don't think she looks disfigured, just like she put on a little weight. Then again, I don't know specifically what she is dealing with. I hope the outpouring of support from her fashion industry friends encourages her to get out more.

She certainly looks a lot heavier than she used to, but there's no way to know if it's just getting older weight gain, or PAH weight gain. Either way, I don't think she looks deformed, but I guess if you were once a supermodel & now you look more like a pretty PTA mom, that might seem "deformed" to you.

Yeah my guess is it's not her face that was the problem.  It says they did the chin but I assume that means under the chin to prevent the double chin look. Plus we don't know if this is before or after she had surgery to correct things.

Her case all comes down to though how thorough the informed consent discussion was beforehand.  In addition likely depends on when the problems started happening and if they kept treating her when complications started, potentially making the problem worse.

I doubt she is going to allow or release any pictures to the public of the worst parts of the problem, especially if she is that self conscious over it.

Hard case to judge I think just based on public pictures of her.

The reported incidence is anywhere from 1/250 to 1/4000 treatments depending on what research you believe.  Rare but still happens.
