I followed the link to Ana's Twitter, and reading the tweets, saw one that mentioned that Meghan's paternal grandmother is still alive, and is 106 years old.  And was at the funeral.  Has Meghan ever mentioned her?

Nope,I was surprised that John MCcains mother was still alive.Very rare to see a 81 yr old Man be outlived by a parent.

Meg and family’s behaviour was/is acceptable. Everyone else seemed far too over the top. McCain was just a man.

Like whose?  Obama & Bush made very nice, respectful speeches.  I think he deserved some attention after the years of service to his country, although a week of funerals seems a bit much.  What I don't get is the over-the-top grief & 7 hour funeral for a singer.

Her grandmother's identical twin sister died 10 years ago... So, they have strong genes in that family.

He was a hero who served his country well. He was deserving of a great sendoff..

If you want to talk about the generalities of John McCain's funeral, specifically ones that have nothing to do with Meghan McCain, please remember to move the conversation to the Small Talk thread.

In his farewell essay, Sen. McCain decried political tribalism. I so hope that's a word that has been stricken from Meghan's View vocabulary.

Oh, yes please!

I have had my issues with Meghan on The View but that eulogy was perfect in content and delivery. I cannot hate on a single thing. Maybe she was in a bad place this past year but if this is who she really is, I hope she stays true to her own conviction when the show returns.

Oh, come on - give it a try.  I said I wold give it a week (if I can stand it that long).  However, MM is not going to suddenly develop empathy, intelligence & a sense of humor, so I don't have high hopes.

She has difficulty when people disagree with her.

Thanks for the encouragement I fessed up on the media forum I think I'm going to  give it a try ..

i did notice the reach for her hair.

i agree with posters who have said she should give it time before returning. Her job is secure and I know I was useless after my most devasting loss. You get through the  funeral  then things can fall apart.  Grief is all different it's a first loss you've experienced some might benifit returning to work and let's face it hers is an hour show.  She's not doing brain surgery or responsible for someone's safety but none of us wants to watch her breakdown on a daily basis.

I've been through loss of a 5 day old newborn , my parents and my husband and they were all very different.  I now jokingly say if someone told me to join Scientolgy I would have gone along with it. It was like I had a layer of skin removed I couldn't take hearing any petty sqabbling  amongst family and friends even loud noises bothered me. There's a "widow fog " too so perhaps she can be a support to her mother.

She has the luxury of taking her time  and won't have to close up an estate sell a house and move or get rid of personal belongings that some  of us have to do immediately.  I do see the possibility of her  returning too soon just not to be out shined by the newbie or a sit in Ana.

My bet is she will different for a very short time then back to her old self with her husband buzzing in her ear. Good chance she will be worse. Yikes.

I am so sorry for your losses,@Athousandclowns, I send you a big cyber hug.

Whoopie broke down on the air over her mother.  I hope Megan takes all the time that she needs in her time of grief.  My heart broke for her, in every picture that I saw of her, she was sobbing and hunching over in grief.  I had to look away... At some point in her life, like Joe Biden said she will smile about her dad instead of crying.

Meghan told her writer what she wanted to say and it was approved by her father and others, I’m sure.

I noticed her brother who sat next to Cindi didn’t  clap though mom and other brother did.   I am curious if there was some desention in the family about her eulogy.

He stayed stone faced throughout, not clapping for anyone. I'm sure he was very proud of his sister.

I wonder if it’s because he is in the Navy and didn’t want to disrespect his commander in chief. He also went over to Obama and Bush after service which I thought was a nice gesture.

Hi folks. I usually lurk here. Anyway, I thought I'd link to the New York Times on Meghan:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/02/us/politics/meghan-mccain-funeral-trump.html?action=click&module=Top Stories&pgtype=Homepage

The author has never seen her on the View.  She is very different  from her father in many ways.  It will be interesting to see if she will cool it on defending Trump and his base.

No, Meghan should not take her father's seat

"To put things in perspective, just a couple of weeks ago in her job as a panelist on The View, she railed against the Inheritance Tax as her father lay dying. And then in an Eiron-worthy fart she took on Socialism in the same breath, sitting on a panel in a position that she only earned because of who her father is.

Meghan McCain’s seat at the table has come at the expense of real journalists; she occupies a space that someone who actually attended J-school deserves. She’s had every opportunity handed to her, unearned, just like she will have her tens-of-millions-dollars inheritance" (emphasis added)

I hope this too. She didn’t used to be so hateful and close-minded. I wonder if she will revert back closer to her old self now that she’s not in constant worry about her father.

I have many issues with Meghan’s demeanor (she’s loud, she’s petulant and her temper is unprofessional) and those are things that won’t change overnight. However, I think her greatest weaknesses as a commentator (and as a person) is her tribalism and her constant inclination to jump into ‘what about’ arguments. What stood out to me is that every person that spoke about her father, including herself, described her father in stark contrast to those two particular behaviours. I hope that the process of writing (or helping to write) his eulogy and listening to the praise her father received, it will inspire her to be more like him in all of the best ways. I hope she stops believing that her presence on the show is to give a voice to the underrepresented conservatives but rather, her role is to be a voice that is simply true to herself. The only time she dissents with any conviction is when speaking about issues that has personally affected her and/or her family. Hopefully she can find some positive in this loss and find the ability to be more open minded and compassionate, even in instances that she cannot personally relate to. That’s not to say this will make her political opinions much different than what it is today, but there’s a reasonable way to have the discussion is all.

I think she's very inarticulate.  She may need elocution lessons if she wants to keep doing this job (or maybe not!).

That's because she mostly relies on talking points rather than her own vested knowledge on a topic. You can also tell quite easily when she's talking about things from prepared notes (which often seem borne from her conversations with her husband or the millions of best friends that she has) and the topics where her opinions are based on more than just anecdotal stories of conversations with friends or random people.

You can easily predict the kind of talking points Meghan will have on any given topic and if you tailor responses to them, you shut her up really quickly. She'll pretend like she has a sensible rebuttal but what happens is that she'll respond with 'but, but, but' and then she rolls her eyes and gives up as if it's the crowd's applause drowning her out is the reason she can't respond...it's really because she has no response other than repeating what she's already said. She is not at all adaptable in conversations.

She also talks faster.  Like she has it memorized from a script and doesn't want to forget it.  You can tell it's rehearsed.  She reminds me of a phone telemarketer.  If you say something that throws them off script they get flustered and don't know how to respond.

So I just read on Meghan's instagram on that pic with her Dad and Whoopi and the fact she actually had the ego to say "She was the only conservative to be there more than one season?"  Um... hello Paula Faris lasted THREE seasons Season 19-21 and she was there for part of Season 18 too. It doesn't matter that she wasn't there all the time in Season 21 but she was there credited as a main not as a guest. Candace Cameron was there for Season 19 & 20.  Jed was there for Season 20 & beginning of 21. Meghan thinks she has longevity or something? Did anyone else see this? Sorry if its old.

“She’s still in intense grief and will be sharing that on the show, but it was her brother, Jimmy, who was insistent on her going back to work, like their dad would have been,” a source tells PEOPLE. “Her dad wouldn’t want her to be crying and feeling sorry for herself, but he would want her to be strong, get back to the grind and keep doing the great job that she’s been doing.”

“Jimmy kept saying that dad would want Meghan to show them how tough she is, like she showed with her eulogy,” the source adds. “Jimmy, his wife Holly and Meghan’s husband, Ben, along with numerous other family and friends, have been such rocks thorough all this.”

So her brother is the one who's getting her to go back to work after five weeks off.  If he hadn't pushed her, I wonder how many weeks she would have taken off.

Plus, I don't think she has "earned" that picture after taking 5 weeks off and needing to be encouraged to go back to the job she was hired to do.

When she didn't show up yesterday, I wondered when Meghan would return. Okay, so we only have one more week of peace. Check.

It did occur to me last week that since she knew her father was terminal when she first signed and then renegotiated her contract, they might worked in a certain amount of bereavement time and even family leave time. In the weekly threads some of the conversation has been about how much time she's taking off, but I suspect the network already had it worked out with her in advance.

What I think is funny, in an awful way, is that I'm pretty sure ABC mostly signed her in the first place to capitalize on her father's illness and eventual death, but by taking so much leave time, she'll be returning after everyone's laid him to rest in their minds. I'm sure there will be a bump for her first few days back, particularly if she goes there, but it won't be anything like if she'd only taken off a week.

And while I can't stand Meghan, good, because I'm even madder at ABC for subjecting us to her in order to exploit her family's loss. I hope it doesn't pay off for them.
