Why wasn't she escorted by Amy's dad (are they on the outs again?). Or an usher or groomsman? If she really wanted Jed he should of dressed nicer. And I agree she looks fabulous!

I would imagine that like my wedding and many others, the bride was being escorted by her father so another groomsman or usher escorted the mother of the bride.

Any full-length reception satin dress pix?

I only saw the (wrinkly) upper torso one and thought that satin would perhaps reveal a pregnancy.

I can't figure out when satin is a good fabric choice. Maybe for the Big Sleep? No bulges or wrinkles possible.

Here's a full length shot with what looks like a poor man's Arkansas Avril Lavigne:

Well, I really liked her wedding gown, especially in the photo where she and Dillon are holding hands and looking off to their left.  I thought she looked lovely in that shot. I didn't get a good picture of the bridesmaids' dresses, so no comment there.  I wasn't a fan of the cake but I think that is the style now (my niece had something similar).  Glad to see she offered adult beverages as well as soft drinks.  The little Duggar guys must have been walking around with their eyes glued to the ground.  So sad to see the Duggar girls making no effort at all to dress up for their cousin's wedding.  Jill and Jana especially looked dowdy.  You can get modest dresses with a little bling.  Shame on them!

Per the Us Weekly article, "the newlyweds opted for a sermon on roller coasters". When I first misread that, I absurdly pictured the preacher on roller skates. Even reading it properly - I have no idea what it means. Is it Fundie code?

.

There was an Everybody Loves Raymond episode about this, where the newlyweds give out a book with this theme. Something about how marriage has it's ups and down, etc.

Edit: Also, ride maintenance :)

Those dresses are dreadful.  The wedding dress was ok, and the strapless thing, well there seem to be way more strapless gowns for sale.  I hear it is much easier for the designer to do strapless.  I had a couple of strapless, non-wedding gowns, and the darned things were just there with no consideration to where my boobs were.  Like I could turn and the dress didn't.  Really odd, and spend all your time manually moving the dress.  I had the feeling that if I turned backwards the dress would stay there and I'd look like a gal with boobs on her back.

LOL!!!

Also, she really would rather be a King than a Duggar, a distinction which no doubt would deeply confuse Jim Bob, who thinks he can be both.

BWAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAA!

This went right by me the first time. Then I was going back through the thread trying to find something, and this time it hit me. Beautiful!

Amy's dress is beautiful when it stays in the right location. Don't know how she got her boobs to do what they did, but they were back to normal in that satiny nightgown thing. Speaking of which...the beaded neckline on that thing was gorgeous....then it looks like a Roman shade from under the boobs on down.

Whoever sold her mom that  jacket dress ought to be fired. NO ONE needs a jacket dress. In fact, I hope there is NEVER an occasion in my life where I will need a jacket dress. And it looks like the housebound Jgirls were back at lining up Pinteresty clothing combos for the Jboys.

Amy looked very nice and her guy is kinda cute, in a Mumford & Sons sort of way. Did she carry flowers??? Don't think I saw any.

Jessa and that stupid slip-extender .......there is no excuse for that thing...and no, those brown sandals from Jill's wedding do not go with every. single. thing. And of course, Jill just had to wear a maxi-dress. And I wish that God would lay it upon both of them to do the really charitable thing and donate at least 18" (each) of those manes to Locks of Love. I think it would count more than running around 'overseas' or posting bible passages.

Mullet looked like Mickey Mouse with her 1980s button-waisted dress.

That bugs me, too, especially when Amy looked quite beautiful and appropriate when she attended Jill, Jessa, and Anna's weddings. Not sure why any bothered to show up.

Jessa needs to burn those hideous sandals. You can find cute formal sandals so there's no excuse for that. That modesty hem or whatever is hideous.

I wonder if the Duggars' not dressing up is their passive-aggressive way of showing disapproval of this sinful, sinful wedding and reception. Alcohol! Dancing! Breasts! They probably felt that they HAD to show up, but by God, no one was going to enjoy it. (I'm glad Jessa was "allowed" to make an effort.)

Really, I wonder if any of the the "kids," especially the adults, wanted to stay and socialize at all, or if they have been thoroughly brainwashed about not mingling with the heathens who dare to have a little fun on a special occasion? Their faith and beliefs are just that fragile, I guess.

Did I also read that they sat apart from everyone else? Their own RELATIVES? Sheesh.

The groom gave an interview with the magazine that blew their world up last week saying that Josh had lots of extra partners we don't know about yet based on he figures probably, and advised Anna to divorce her husband because he was iredeemable. The bride was burbling and excited about the fact that her telling the magazine they used to have a relationship with that she wasn't willing to share a name with them any more - not that she ever did - was trending on twitter.

I think it's a bit much to ask the family to buy nicer clothes to show how happy they are for the nice new couple.

  • Love 3

Heck, I don't think the Duggars were trying to send any message to Amy regarding their inappropriate dress at her wedding. They always are inappropriately dressed for most occasions. At least Jim Bob wore a suit, and the boys didn't wear jeans to this wedding. They just have bad taste in clothes and no "coothe". (Hope I spelled that correctly). Since Grandma Duggar looked appropriate again and I think she actually wore high heels, there is no reason why she didn't advise the rest of them to look appropriate for the occasion....after all, she's doing laundry for FIVE more now, isn't she.

BTW, Deanna's totally good look at her daughter's wedding was also a modest look...no reason Michelle couldn't have looked as elegant AND modest as Deanna at her own childrens' weddings.

  • Love 10

I really think the Duggars are clueless as to what is appropriate attire for any occasion, other than a bride wears a wedding dress. What they wear to any event often seems wrong. Flip-flops to help on a farm, denim tops to a wedding, street clothes for jammies, etc. They are so Gothardized that as long as it's modest it is okay.

Those dusty brown sandals are killing me. I understand she wants to be comfortable but hell, Target has dressy flat sandals for twenty bucks, it's not like Jessa has to dish out thousands of dollars to look halfway decent.

Good point - I had actually forgotten about that. But I wonder why they even attended. Too much more tabloid fodder, I suppose.

Can someone please get that mustard colored sweater away from the Jill & Jessa & sacrifice it to the fashion gods? Possibly burning it at the stake? I liked Amy's gown & thought her make up & hair looked nice, unlike Jill's & Michael Bates hair on their wedding days. I guess Jim Boob & the boys weren't even allowed to side hug Amy in her gown. Poor baby Meredith- she had to wear one of those stupid flowers on her head. There's a picture of Jillard talking to one of the bridesmaids. Besides seeing her in her wedding gown & Jessa's bridesmaid dress, (which wasn't dressy) it's a shame Derick probably has never seen Jill dressed up like this bridesmaid was - somewhat blingy dress with hair & makeup looking nice. He gets to look at his wife in the floor sweeping chevron dress with the mustard sweater with flip flops or barefoot. Ugh!!

Maybe she assumes that because she can't see her feet they're now invisible?  You know, like when a dog squints at you when you yell at it.

Did anyone keep up with how Amy made out on her bridal registries? As far as I can tell the lists aren't available any more.

Well, damn. You mean I missed my chance to spend my (husband's) hard-earned money on Amy Jordan Duggar Jordyn Duggar King, and her prince? How disappointing. I guess we'll just have to go on squandering our income on our children's education...

The way they take turns wearing the thing, it must be a name brand sweater or something that made its way to a consignment store unused (because it's such an ugly color).

Last time I looked less than 1/5th of the selected items were purchased.

but then, she did give out a mailing address for people who wanted to be at her wedding in spirit to send gifts directly, and one of the stores she registered with she asked for gift cards, so who's to say.

I don't understand the mustard sweater. There are people who look good in that color, I'm sure, but I can't imagine any of the Duggars in that group. It's not a good color for people with beige coloring or sallow skin.

I'm LoL-ing about the yellow sweater because I actually like it, but that's not surprising because a few years ago I was a book signing where I got to meet author David Sedaris (who I love!).  I was wearing a t-shirt that same color of yellow, and he said to me, "I think you're the only person that could pull off wearing that color."  I do like the sweater, I'm just tired of seeing it on the Duggar girls in various ways.  That ubiquitous yellow sweater.  I'm sure we'll see it soon as a babushka on Jinger or as a baby sling for Izzy.  It's kind of like that chicken and egg t-shirt that Rosanne used to wear on her show.  She had each of the cast members wear that t-shirt at some point.

Agreed, esp. about Michelle being able to dress modestly without dressing in such wonky clothes. I'd argue that Deanna's outfit was more modest than that gray satin getup that Michelle wore as mother of the bride, because even with the dorky modesty panel that went up to her trachea, the bodice area was quite fitted around the bosom. So it was less modest and more ugly. Her Nurse Ratched dress for Amy's wedding was all kinds of fugly. It was ill-fitting, frumpy, had style details reminiscent of a canvas tarpaulin, and the color (besides being inappropriate--c'mon, Michelle, you know damn well it's gauche to wear white to a wedding) washed her out. To finish it off, she paired a feminine necklace with a blocky, sporty watch. Her hair just keeps looking worse and worse; even if she insists on the length, she could still do something chic: a smooth braid pinned up around her crown, a soft chignon, even a simple horsetail with a pretty comb or small flower tucked behind her ear. So many things she could do if she lost the nauseating perm and 80s bangs. She sure looked rode hard and put away wet--the stress is all over her face, smile or no. (And no, I didn't see that hideous 19 stones and counting cocktail bauble JB had made, either.)

I bought myself some clothes today and I was thinking about this on my way home. I dress very conservatively (not MODESTLY. OMG Look at me! Look at how MODEST I am!), but conservatively. I'm hardly a clothes-horse, but I have a wardrobe full of clothing suitable for work, play, leisuere, and parties and, if I really felt that I had nothing suitable to wear to a particular event, I could find something pretty easily. There is simply no excuse for the way those girls dress: the ratty old sweater, the bit of bedsheet tacked on to the bottom of Jessa's dress, etc.

I realize that Jill's whole hippie, earth-mother style isn't my thing, but that was pretty bad, I admit that I have my own little cache of hideous clothing that I love and can't bear to part with -- but I don't wear that stuff out of the house, much less to a family wedding! And just what occassion is going to be important enough for Derick Dillard to put on a tie?

In the pictures I've seen of the Duggar's at the wedding, they looked to me as if they were attending a funeral.  I realize the wedding took place in Arkansas, where it was hotter than a furnace and so humid you could nearly drink the air, so maybe that accounts for the facial expressions, but it certainly didn't look like a joyful event for Big Daddy's gang.

I can't stand Amy, but part of me would like to see her get her own show and soar to stardom while the other Duggar's continue to spiral downward.  Ironically, the entire family seems to be getting much more media attention in their decline than they did in their heyday.  Maybe it's because I never watch the program, but I certainly never saw this much Duggar coverage before.

I was thinking that maybe the heat had something to do with it. From what I saw, the ceremony was out in the blazing sun, there was no tent covering for shade, so I can imagine guests got cranky and uncomfortable pretty quickly. There's nothing worse than being in a dress and feeling sweat pooling on your back and your makeup melting off your face.

I think a lot of people feel that way. I'm just not sure I understand. Yes, it'll really upset the Duggars, so that's an upside. But Amy wasn't born in their community, and she wasn't raised in the sort of small, damaged life they were, and she was more than happy to go on TV to promote it if it meant she could be famous for existing. So yeah, I get that she doesn't think she's God's special little snowflake raining fire on the unworthy, which is a refreshing change in that family, but she was more than willing to promote the family who do if it meant her boat would rise.

Doesn't that give her less of an excuse?
