A photo guaranteed to make Lolli and Pops heads explode! So many bad things - school, shorter hair, nose piercing and spaghetti straps! Jill is going straight to hell. 😂 Glad they both look happy!

Her bra is showing too!!

Israel looks eager to go to school. I'm happy for him. Sadly, his school will likely go remote soon. But things will one day normalize and he'll be back, having a more normal life than his cousins and making friends outside of the family.

Speaking of Lolli and Pops, do you think they will attend Grandparent's Day at Izzy's school?

(#1)I'm hoping they aren't even asked and  (#2) the good Lord will strike them down if they try to step foot in the building.

I can picture JB trying to take over the conversation with his stupid wisecracks and jokes trying to prove to the others how wonderful parents and grandparents they are if they do make it in.

Why is Israel wearing flip flops to school? My daughter’s elementary school would send home kids without closed toe shoes. Or the parent could bring them to school. I think her middle school prohibits them too. One step forward, two steps back.

well they are certainly beyond lolli as a guest reader with a lost girl hidden in the Breastfriend while reading to school children

though i remember this happening, I don't remember the details -christian school or public or what book she read. but the older girls were there

Yeah, it happened.  But nothing beats Michelle standing up on a parade float while nursing a kid who was completely covered with her Breast Friend contraption strapped on.

And sat there looking like she just smelled a fart when the children did a perfectly innocent little dance (think "If you're happy and you know it") to start the school day.

Not all schools prohibit them. My mother always insisted on shoes that attached to your feet in case of an emergency. In middle school a lot of people wore flip-flops. One of my friends wore snearkers and changed shoes in school.

As for Jill, her narcisstic parents had their children wearing flip-flops at a construction and in the rainforest. Two places where closed toe shoes not only make sense, but are necessary to protect your feet.

I can't bear to watch this show anymore, and give them any kind of support, because these Duggars and their culture frighten me.  But I have decided to follow Jill on Instagram.  I'm proud of her progress.  Who knows, maybe someday she will get her chance at higher education.  I think Derek would encourage that.  I love seeing Israel heading off to school!

She needs a fair chance at lower education first.

Lots of schools allow flip flops. Especially in the south where it’s so hot. My prep school in Chicago had uniforms but we were allowed to wear sandals in the warm months. Not flip flops but open toed sandals were fine.

@Temperance @Scarlett45, thank you for the info about open toe shoes and flip flops. SGirl has attended formal school in Southern California, and those were/are no nos, no matter the weather. I checked her middle school handbook and the same applies. Lots of kids change after their last period to walk home comfortably.

SToddler attended preschool in Northern California, and the same applied. I would feel better if he at least wore Keens or knock offs since they are closed toe.

A silver lining for Jessa’s kids not attending public school. She won’t have to make them wear shoes, since she is fond of having them barefoot in questionable situations.

She passed the GED test when she was 16. At this point, she would probably need some remedial classes if she wanted to start higher education, but 25% of metriculating students do likewise, so she certainly wouldn't be alone in that. I helped a friend enroll in a community college program 12 years after she graduated from public school. She needed three semesters of remedial English and Math courses before she could take anything for credit. Unconscionably high numbers of recent graduates need to take remedial classes because so many school systems graduate barely literate students. Maybe if Jill knew how common it is for people to need to "catch up" in their education, she would be more encouraged to pursue it in the future. I would hope to see her continue working through therapy and being happy as a wife and mother for a few more years, though. Let her build some confidence and a better sense of self before she has to worry about grades.

But taking remedial courses will conflict with the narrative that homeschooling is the best, and the Duggar kids are better educated than public school kids.

I realize Izzy is in heathen school, but did Jill have a choice? I hope she can reconcile the fantasy with her reality.

I’m all for kids wearing proper foot wear, the whole “barefoot” thing wasn’t a thing for me in childhood probably because I come from a climate where it’s cold most of the year. But sandals or flip flops in school are fine for children IMO. Izzy looks happy and comfortable.

That's kind of what I'm getting at: Jill is working her way through a process to sift the love she has for her family of origin from the damaging views and experiences with which she was raised. Maybe after a few more years of that development, it won't be a problem for her to admit that, like many others who have been out of formal education for over a decade, she needs some review before embarking on higher education. Jill has shown capacity to learn and pass real exams, so I believe that she could actually be successful in many fields of higher education.

It's not like she would have to publicize the fact that she enrolled in any remedial classes, either. She could quietly work her way through a few online courses a year without anyone being the wiser. Course enrollments are not public information.

if she didn't publicize no one would ever know. my college professor daughter teaches some remedial students English comp - runs the gamut of prior education, homeschool, public school, private/charter school. many are lacking no matter how they were schooled and need help. no judgement there

With Izzy in school this would be a good time for Jill to enroll in CC online classes. You are right, she need not advertise her enrollment. By the time Sam starts Kinder Jill could be on non remedial classes. I know, baby steps.

I'm not seeing any reason Jill would be wanting to further her education at this time, or ever. Her dreams were to deliver babies, do missionary work and be a mom. But really her only goal was being a mom. Jill is still Jill, college costs money and college isn't everyone's goal.

I also don't think Jill thinks she's stupid or educationally stunted.

If she’s been spending time with Derrick’s law school buddies, she might. I went to Yale, and I still sometimes felt a bit dumb when my husband had law school group study sessions going on at our place.

I totally agree!  I don't think Jill has ever indicated any educational ambition at all.  Her midwifery was not much of an academic exercise, what with her "medical thingies".  I don't know what she thinks when she is around people talking over her head but I don't see it driving her to get education.

I can see Jill feeling out of her element around any of Derick's law school classmates in a way that extends beyond education. I don't know that it necessarily motivates her to want higher education herself, though.

I think it is too soon to tell regarding Jill pursuing additional education. She may become interested once Samuel starts kindergarten and she has a large block of kid-free time each day. Or she may be like my mom who began taking community college classes when I started college, and further her education once Israel or Samuel starts college.

I'm surprised that Izzy is allowed to wear flip flops to school. Those aren't allowed in our school because they're hard to run in during PE and lunchtime. Too easy to trip and fall. You can wear sandals like Derelict though.

I think Jill would have more fun taking a cooking, baking, or gardening class. Or maybe have a piano or harp instructor come to the house and give her lessons to help her grow as a musician. Join a women's social group that meets during the day or spend time volunteering with a charity she supports. There are plenty of activities that Jill can do for personal growth that don't involve going to college, especially if she wants to be a SAHM.

I went to a good college preparatory Catholic high school and received a great education there but I wasn't able to go to college. When my then lawyer husband and I were in social situations with his colleagues, most of the other lawyers were either married to lawyers OR other professional women. I felt a bit undereducated and out of place at times as I was 'only a stay at home mother'. I would imagine if Jill isn't totally clueless, she may feel a bit out of place too if she attends social situations with Derick's peers.....OR maybe she is would be clueless to notice.

Seems like if the school didn't allow them, he wouldn't be wearing them.  We'll see what he wears later on - maybe the school told them no, or he will say he can't run well in them, or he will trip on them.  What I've come to see is that one size does not fit all (not referring to flip flops, haha).  Different geographical locations, school systems, parents, etc. may or may not have different policies that probably work well for them, or they would change them.

A good book club would do her a world of good.

Derick tweeted he’s on the PTO at Iz’s school. Seems like that might have been a better thing for Jill to take up since he’s in his last year of school himself. I hope he’s not there to push some ultra conservative agenda. I’m happy for Jill and making progress but I still think Derick is a bit self righteous. At least they have seems to stop the long winded blog posts where they try to teach us all to live, so who knows. Hopefully his involvement is to be supportive and not a know-it-all asshat.

Ugh. Who needs him. Maybe it is to bring Jill and let her see how it is not scary And eventually hand it off to her. I can’t imagine her just jumping into this kind of activity.
