My old school Muppet UO:

I don't hate Bean Bunny! An even bigger UO? I'd take a million Bean Bunnys over one Beauregard (oh, how I hated that talking turd of a character).

I thought Bean Bunny was cute as well. I had to google Beauregard because that name wasn't familiar. I vaguely remember him, but couldn't have ever told you his name for $10,000,000.

Unpopular Opinion: Most 'prestige' television shows are just run of the mill soap operas.

Some people seem to be watching the new Sarah Jessica Parker show Divorce not because it's good or they like it but because it's on HBO.

Do it!!!

UO - I've never watched Gilmore Girls and I'm tired of hearing about whatever character Milo played on that show on the This Is Us board.
IDK if this is a UO or not, but I'm tired of characters dying. I get it in a show-verse like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, but shows that are set in ordinary, everyday settings; it sure seems like people in their 20's-40's die an awful lot. Why can't people move away, find a new job, etc like they do in real life? You still have the goodbye and missing that person, but without the death and the inevitable analysis of whether or not the surviving character's SO got over them too quickly, or is moping around too much, yada yada.

This keeps messing up on me.

Anyway, I was looking for a thread, as well. I didn't see St. Elsewhere - I only saw a few episodes when I was sick, and up late - but I know that there were a lot of complaints about the end of it.

I didn't riot but in the interest of disclosure I did quit 24 almost the instant Michelle got killed off and barely ever looked back.  If I'm being honest, I'm still not entirely over it.

I stopped watching Angel when they killed off Doyle.  He was the only character I actually liked.  But no rioting, just no watching.

I don't think Sarah Paulsen's British accent on American Horror Story is terrible (sounds pretty much like my friend's, to be honest). Seriously, it seems like anytime an actor does one on TV, anyone and everyone is an absolute expert on each and every variation of British accent. I find that annoying.

Also, I don't think I have ever taken part in the weird almost-clockwork phenomenon of going from loving a show/character to absolutely hating it. Glee, Tim Gunn, AHS, Modern Family, various Housewives, etc. It's really kind of remarkable.

I've never threatened to riot. I don't get that, either.

Haha, no one is really threatening to actually riot! It's just "clever" T-shirt-slogan fodder and camaraderie, I suppose. And I'm not hurting anyone with my fierce love of Walking Dead Carl (a UO on its own, I assume) or tears at Herschel's death, a damn scene that I always seem to catch on repeat because the universe is mean.

I can't say that I've done it much, but there are a few shows that I started out loving and ended up hating, usually because I intensely disliked the direction the show went with the writing.  So I stopped watching, as life is too short to hate watch anything other than America's Next Top Model.

But if they simply move away, the fans will wonder why they don't move back. Death closes the door on that character.

Gilligan's Island -- they could make a roulette wheel, a geiger counter, nitroglycerin ... but they couldn't patch a hole in a boat.

I cried over Herschel, too. I started to watch the second season again last weekend, but stopped at the barn reveal (the first one). I can't watch Herschel die again, so I probably won't watch much more. They almost lost me over that one!

Same thing with UK or Australian actors doing an American accent. THEY'RE FINE. Maybe it's my ear, but I just don't hear the frequent "slips" and "nerves" that others point out. In fact, I'm often quite surprised when an actor is on a talk show and uses his/her native British accent -- I never realized! I do notice Canadian actors who inadvertently let loose their version of "ou" once in a while.

Edited to add: The above applies to "standard" English. Actors of any nationality who attempt specific regional American accents mess up more frequently than not.

So I caught about ten minutes of Grey's Anatomy tonight and it reminded me of a highly unpopular opinion I have (well two) about a show I didn't watch a large amount of: 1. I never liked Christina. I liked the idea of Christina, but the actual execution? Nope (off course I did like her more than Meredith, but that's not really that high of a bar); 2. Izzie was my favorite. Once she was gone, I was gone. Even Alex couldn't keep me there. (I also still like Katherine Hiegl).

Against my will (Heigl and Roswell) I was the same way.  I hated that Christina and Meredth were each other's "people" in a mean girl exclusionary way to Izzie.  I loved Alex and Izzie, but once they lost Gerorge and Izzie and the original five were no more I was out.

I thought Izzie was the ultimate mean girl (see the reprehensible way she treated Callie) so any exclusion she got never bothered me.  Anyway, I stuck around until Mark died.  That was the last straw for me.  I hated Lexie and I hated her pairing with Mark so imagine my glee when she was killed off in the finale.  And my crushing disappointment when he quickly followed in the premiere.

I never liked Christina either, loved Izzie and I hated Callie. I mean like I cannot stand that character. I do think the actress that plays her is perfectly lovely though, I hope she moves on to a better role. I don't even know why I'm still watching this show, I only like Alex, Arizona and Richard. I had hopes for liking Maggie but they've made her another one of those fluttery talking woman that are all over that show. I don't know exactly how to describe what I mean I just know that no women that I know ever have talked like the women on Grey's do.

I haven't watched Grey's for a couple of weeks, and I don't really miss it. I let it collect on my DVR, so it's there if I change my mind. I've been feeling that way about almost every show, though.

My UO is that the TV show Rizzoli and Isles was a very vanilla version of the books, the only things that were the same was that Rizzoli was a cop and Isles an ME.  The characters might have had the same names as the characters in the book, but that was it.

My UO is that I don't care how inaccurate police, lawyer, medical, etc, shows are.  From what I know and have heard about in regards to the real thing, if they were too accurate, they would be boring.  I guess I can understand if you are in that profession, or if you know a lot about it for whatever reason, it might get annoying, but as someone who isn't in any of those fields, I just don't care.  Occasionally, I'll roll my eyes at something, but it won't kill my enjoyment of the show ("remind me again why I watch this show?!").

And since I mentioned medical shows:  As someone who really like Neal and Christa on Code Black, I haven't missed them (although it would have been nice to hear a line or two about where they went).

I've said in these forums that I quit The Walking Dead after the cliffhanger. Again, I know I tweeted the night it aired at the showrunners. I think my anger tends to come when I feel like the people behind the scenes are trolling their audience a little rather than because characters die. Characters dying can often move the show forward in great ways. But I think a show has to be aware of how it treats its audience when killing a character. Don't troll or tease your audience. That's the sort of thing that pisses people off.

My unpopular opinion is i dont think i could ever get into waking dead because i think i would keep waiting for a cut away that says "meanwhile in Canada" and shows a bunch of people going about their normal lives in areas where there are sub-freezing winters. You would see a bunch of frozen zombies around getting picked up like trash.

Here's one! I'm sick and tired of all the needless gore shown on current medical and investigative shows for its OWN sake just to get the viewers to be shocked. I KNOW that blood and gore happens in real life all-too-often. However; for all its faults, "M*A*S*H" was able to perfectly convey the horrors and atrocities of war and violence without constantly shoving in the viewers' faces. It's gotten so that I can no longer watch medical or investigative shows because I'm fed up with having to endure 'gore porn' (and I don't even bother with 'supernatural' stuff).

My UO is that I like Code Black and don't even miss what's his name and what's her name who aren't in the show this season.  I realized someone was missing, but didn't even register who.

Also, already some folks think the new black female resident is "annoying."  Whoa, folks think a black woman is "annoying," how original.

This. And dramas. I am admittedly a huge wuss, but it selfishly frustrates me to know that there are so many good tv shows out there that I just can't watch because I won't be able to stomach them.

Me neither. I don't do twitter or tumblr or anywhere outside here actually but I can just imagine reactions. Two villains might fall for each other? Happens all the time. Oh wait, they're men? *Clutches pearls* That never happened in the comics. It's all about the comics I swear, it has nothing to do with them being men. /eyeroll. A-men! I can truly say that the only accents I've ever caught on a tv show have been Charlie Hunnam on Sons of Anarchy (who was horrendous at hiding his accent) and Dominic West on the very first season of The Wire, and with him it was only on a couple of words. But outside of that, I certainly can never tell.  Using a current example, during those first few seasons I watched the Walking Dead, I had no idea so much of the cast was British.  Hell, you could've picked my jaw off the floor when I heard Eamonn Walker (of Oz and Chicago Fire) and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Oz) speak in their natural accents.

Funnily enough, it is usually Canadians I can pick up quicker, as long as they say "Sorry".  I can not quite type out phonetically how it sounds different to me, but it does.

I'm a really sentimental, nostalgic (read: sappy as hell) person in general, but for some reason I'm really not looking forward to the Gilmore Girls revival and kind of cringe when I hear about other potential revivals in the works. It just all feels so forced and almost pandering to me, a kind of sad attempt to resurrect shows that had long ago passed away peacefully and should be left to live on in reruns, fanfics and viewers' imaginations. I was a huge Gilmore Girls fan, but the trailers have made me kind of wish they had just let the series end when it ended.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I find the whole "revival/reboot" trend annoying and pathetic. A Will and Grace revival? Seriously? Who asked for that? The leads' careers are doing fine, why exactly do they feel the need to do it? This was the show that was so creatively bankrupt that introduced the whole "Jack decides to become a nurse" storyline... then completely abandoned it! They didn't even try to explore the possibilities!

I get that comic books, the Star Wars franchise, and the like, are ongoing because they're these mythological universes with comparatively unlimited storyline opportunities.

Will and Grace, Gilmore Girls? Full House?

Those. Shows. Are. DONE. They're finished. What others stories are there to tell? Is this just the creative well running dry, or is it this utterly pitiful, self-indulgent need to satisfy nostalgic cravings because we fear finality?

It's an attempt to cash in on a popular show with a fanbase in order to make more money.

Yes, I'm cynical.  But I don't think I'm wrong.

IMHO re: Gilmore Girls, I think has to do with the original showrunners not being able to do the last season and ending the show the way they wanted to. It helps that a fan base will be there for it, but basically they get to end it their way . I'll watch it, but I hope that's it.

No, you are absolutely, assuredly not wrong.

God, the idea of a Will and Grace revival sets my teeth on edge. I am baffled as to why anyone would be excited by this. Oh, goody gumdrops, Will and Grace in the 2010s, and all the characters' delightful antics they haven't outgrown, even though they're middle-aged! Grace can now bitch about being in her 40s! Will can still be a passive aggressive asshole with a smile that could terrify the Joker! Jack can still be an immature, obnoxious gay stereotype even though he's crowding the half century mark! Boozy, pill-popping Karen... is inexplicably still alive! Wheeee!

It is Halloween after all so I'm going to put it this way:  the recent trend of show revivals is like Pet Semetary.  The shows come back to life, but they come back wrong.

Yes, in this age of increased content and competition, it's a shortcut to devoted, and perhaps most importantly, VOCAL viewers. Good or bad, people will be buzzing on social media about them.

Is it unpopular not to be nostalgic? There are shows I liked once upon a time that I wouldn't watch today.  Gilmore Girls was one of them.

Despite the fact that there are no doubt many, many unknown writers willing to do just that for pennies.
