AMC and OLTL fans everywhere say, "Good luck with that."

but the problem with AMC/OLTL online was a lack of funds. Netflix is financially sound. The question is whether Netflix would even entertain producing a daytime soap.

I think funding was only part of the problem. Many older, low tech viewers (e.g., still on dialup modems) had problems getting to shows that weren't on "regular" TV. They weren't used to having to navigate to an online site to watch their stories. Many of AMC and OLTL's longest, most dedicated fans never forged the river. (And the lack of SL likely didn't help either since she'd been the face of the show.)

Are there any other daily shows on pay sites like Netflix? I can't see TPTB coming up with a price point that would be worthwhile to the viewer who doesn't otherwise subscribe to Netflix. Maybe Y&R would need to switch to a weekly format.

Of course they'd be free to add more "mature" language and some actual T&A which might help. But then it'd no longer be a daytime soap and would be more like Suits or Big Little Lies--except probably with more than 13 episodes a year.

I could sooner see it on YouTube Red or Amazon Prime, but subsidized mostly by advertising. Clearly Mal seems to trying to move in that direction with the "previously on" thing and episodes that are more self-contained. But is he trying to improve the genre or repackage one show into a marketable nightime or on-demand format?

Watching Show under the complete control of Mal, writing, directing, (proctology exams and light dental work also done during breaks) has been ..... interesting.  Or to put it another way, fucking awful.  What drives our Lord and Master from Across the Pond?  I think I know what it is - Mal's got himself a raging case of Hipster Doofism with a virulent strain of Rat Packitis.

The only symptom we haven't seen yet are a finger-snapping dance line of ButtBiscuit, Cane, JT, Yanni and Dickolas.  But I bet it's coming.

Perhaps Mal picked it up from one too many cheap Walgreen fedoras, or maybe those vintage skinny ties carry the virus, or maybe, just maybe, he's been humming Sinatra's "I Did it My Way" once too often.

In any case, the only thing missing from Show is Dean Martin, drunk on stage and Joey Bishop in the background propping up Peter Lawford.

giphy.gif

Mal is too cool for school.

Cept he ain't

We've got a soap with da wimmins as background noise, good for a cat fight or two, or sliking around town dressed like Jessica Rabbit; we've got da wimmins who used to be smart (which in Rat Pack Land just is NOT sexay) now doing strip teases on screen for Christmas, entranced by

giphy.gif

NostrilDumbass ( thanks, Snaporaz!) and his skin flute, cuz he's FUN and WILD and owns a race horse!  Oh that Buttbiscuit!

And we've got another woman made to want to get back with an undead fish-belly-white platypus of a man who lied as often as he breathed through most of their relationship because ....... WHY THE FUCK, again?

We got another doofus, this one an international reporter and hair model that is so hawt dammit HAWT that two women two are willing to debase themselves for him.

giphy.gif

Meanwhile, to appease us old folksandviewers, I guess, we get to see Nikki go back to her abuser under the guise of ??empowerment?? and enjoy the pratfalls and laffs that come with the heartbreak of dementia.

Hey, Mal, over here!

giphy.gif

Fuck you, doofus and may your crotch rot be vintage.

LOLOL  got it, and it would go something like this.

Oh, no! George Chakiris, Russ Tamblyn way out of Mal's league, sorry.

More along this line, even without the snappy-brimmed fedoras-and this way, Nick and Billy Daydrinker will fit right in!

May he rest in peace.

He may not have been on the show long*, but his character cast quite a shadow on the show, especially when it came to Jill and Katherine.

*And yes, he was the second actor to play Philip, but Philip was only on the show for 2 or 3 years total anyway...

Fresh meat coming, per SOD:

3DFVjTT.jpg

Apparently it's a contract role. He's said to be big in the telenovela realm, and he has 250K + Instagram followers. Google says he's 25 years old.

He's pretty, I'll give him that. Wonder who's he's intended for? Hilary, Sharon, Mariah? Victoria? (Lawd no!) Maybe Grandma Phyllis will get her cougar on and cheat on Billy? Ashley will set Ravi free and get herself some even younger stuff? Nikki will decide that keeping up appearances doesn't include living like a cloistered nun? Enquiring minds...blah, blah, blah.

Yes, he was impressive, amazing and other words I cannot come up with right now.  A true actor.

First time I saw him was on Soap (I’m a bad Canadian; I never watched Danger Bay ?)

when danger bay was on tv, it was on one of the two channels we got......

lived up north, out of town, no cable.

kids loved it and i liked it alot.

especially cause it was mostly filmed at the vancouver aquarium where his character was the veterinarian/marine biologist(?) or whatever they are called.

You know when Sally came on about a year ago and hired an actual flesh and blood actress to be Mrs. Martinez once in a while (instead of just an unseen character) there was this kind of goofy scene where she told Billy how much "she appreciates all the Abbott family has done for her and her children". I remember thinking at the time maybe Sally was laying the groundwork for some new young characters via Mrs. Martinez.

Probably not the case here but damn he's pretty.

I recall that scene too @JasonCC too. I think Jack even gave her a bonus check. It was a nice conversation. Love that Traci is home and wish they would do more breakfast time conversations.

OTOH I hate no preview being replaced by a review the next day. And get rid if Staffords Walk. Be Gone.

I remember and I think she was setting the stage for a new family. But the scene bugged me. It implied that Mrs. Martinez knew adorable Billy (they had her fucking doting on him) and the Abbotts had this ancient history with her. What bullshit. She worked for Jack when he was there alone. Mamie of course is the one who had the long history -- and NONE of it with Billy.

Well done Shemar. Well done.

Interesting it wasn't Lily and the twins but Jack and Billy fighting. Guess Shemar was like, I'll show Y&R but y'all ain't showing my character's grandkids!

Guess we won’t see Shemar any more. I can see Neil as Grandpa but not Shemar?

Judith Chapman posted this today on her Facebook page...

"It is with a heavy heart and a grateful smile that I called him my friend,, "BIG" JOHN CONBOY, the ORIGINAL Producer on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, left us today The Big Guy, with the BIG LAUGH, Man about Town, and One HELLUVA PRODUCER...
Whether you loved him, or not ..YOU have to agree He was ONE OF A KIND!
God Bless you, John..
Give Jeanne a Hug from all of us."

He was a great soap opera producer creating several during his career with Santa Barbara and Capitol, two that I especially loved.

I have lately started watching Coronation Street, and fans are up in arms about the current villain’s unduly lengthy storyline. The character has only been on the show for five years ? I wonder what they would make of TGVN!

I watch Corrie too and Phelan needs to go ASAP. He is worse than Victor.

Is it worth going back to C Street? I gave up about a year ago after decades--Phelan's deeply awful--but he was almost worse a few years ago...

I suspect that if Adam returns at all it's only going to be for long enough to escort Chelsea off the canvas. What I'm wondering is if we'll actually see him and which version of Adam it'll be if we do see him. I can't imagine they can get JH back for even one episode so that leaves...Also, will Chelsea take Christian with her? I can't see them (her and Adam) letting his son live the rest of his life thinking Nick is his father. Now would be the time to take the boy while he's still young enough not to remember much about Nick. And then Sharon can swoop in to comfort Nick. ?

I wish they'd taken ME while I was still young enough not to remember Nick.  Or ButtBiscuit.

It burns, oh it burns.

Or so Phyllis has told me......

Well...Sharon doesn’t have a Man right now, so why not bring bzck Adam and reunite them? (No I am NOT advocating for this, just saying...)

I think they're doing all the Sharon/Nick recent bonding for that non-man reason.
