Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Such a staged Norman Rockwell Family Scene!

Let's see... We have a little brother and sister sharing a chair and blissfully sharing a tablet game.

We have a sister-mom juggling baby Sophiiiiiiiia while teaching little brother his worksheet.

We have best friends brother and sister playing checkers.

Little loner girl juggles a lone ball while keeping watch over a young sister playing with her dolls.

Elder brother quietly reads his book, a Bible story, I'm sure!

Elder sister shows off at the piano.

Then all the skeletal kids line up, showcasing their pallor and thinness while Mom songs, her coffee shop latte in view near the patriotic flag.

The actual singing, I didn't really hate too much?

The singing wasn't that bad, but those poor kids. The bleached look with greyish-greenish skin is not doing the oldest boy any favors. Nuri looks older than her mother, and I thought the sister-mom with Sophia was the mother until the singing started.

It's not stellar. There's a fake All-American family scene, then Jill starts singing and the kids all run to line up in front of a small US flag, where they stand awkwardly throughout the song, then cheer for the good ol' USA.

It's not going to make you puke or want those 3 1/2 minutes back, but it's not something anyone wants to watch.

Blurry buddy Taryn shot Torby's engagement photos. eta: PRE-engagement photos. I clicked on Taryn's link (sorry, she's blocked the pic, so you can't c/p), and one pic shows Tori's left hand resting on Bobby's chest blatantly sans ring.

Those two should relax. Those look phonier and stagier than catalog pictures. Looks like they've been ordered to sell Tori's outfit.

Jill's patriotism will ring hollow for me until I know she doesn't cross the street when a black man wearing a hoodie approaches or call the cops on a transgender person in an IHOP bathroom.

Not to mention that she doesn't starve, brutalize and utterly deprive of freedom and opportunity a dozen-plus American kids, right there in her own living room. Oh, wait ... we know she does that one. So piss on her "patriotism."

Did I miss this stellar performance, or should I be thanking those who "too, one for the team". I didn't want to frighten my poor 161/2 year old cat.

Others have said that the singing wasn't too bad, but it definitely wasn't what I'd call "good" either. The dirge-like tempo she chose really emphasized her lack of breath control and minor lapses in pitch. She has a potentially not-horrible voice, but it's not up to professional standards by any stretch of the imagination.

I can't abide Jill's singing.  I barely lasted two lines.  Over performed and yet lacking training so it sounds like a bad American Idol contestant.

Does this woman shoot all the Bates' family photos? They are always airbrushed to the max, even the baby photos.

The oldest boy with the bleached hair looks like his eyebrows were drawn on with a sharpie.

The youngest little girl looks like she has the distended belly you see on starving  children.

But there is still a big screen tv and a latte cup.

Priorities...

Well, TBH, I was only comparing her to my own god awful voice!  Certainly not to a professional.

She does, yes and she manages to make all of them look gelatinous wit the amount of airbrushing she does.

I just don't understand how the Rodrigues family affords anything really. There are just so many of them, and their house is full of stuff. The kids were playing with a tablet - how did they afford that plus the monthly bill to keep it connected? It's probably part of David and Jill's cell phone plan, but how in the hell do they afford that? They've got a big motorhome that surely needs a ton of gas to operate, plus other maintenance to keep it operating so that they can live on it for long periods of time. How are they making enough money to survive?

I'm almost sure I saw David's fat gut sitting in a chair as the camera panned around the idyllic family scene, yet he didn't get up and stand at attention for the national anthem??

Regarding the Rodriguez video, that was terrifying. Those poor kids! I can't snark on any of it because those are kids are so clearly being abused. Where the hell is CPS?

I’ve known someone who has worked in CPS in my country, and in all honesty, they are so overworked a family like that would probably be put on the back burner, while they deal with the overwhelming number of cases they get with obvious physical injuries and horrific sexual abuse, far surpassing anything we’ve seen with the particular families discussed on these boards.

CPS has a huge burnout rate, and never enough staff to cover all the cases that come their way.

Those kids seem frozen and trained like monkeys.  Awkwardly didn't know what to do when the song ended. I'm scared to know what lies beneath the surface they show us.

The boys, especially, had scared, shifty eyes while mom sang.

I agree. Unfortunate for these kids as their needs are clearly not being met by their "parents", but there is a huge burnout rate and social workers have way too many cases in our county and I'm sure it's similar across the country.

My younger sister is in her 2nd or 3rd year with CPS in our county and it's an extremely difficult and demanding job. She deals with a lot of sexual abuse cases as well, and when you say horrific you aren't exagerating, some of the things she's told me are so horrible, I really do not know how she is able to do it. She's said that in the last ten years their case loads have doubled if not tripled according to coworkers who have been there awhile (not many stay past 5 years) and that's due mostly to the opioid epidemic, which like all across our country has exploded here in the past decade.

My sister recieved a scholarship from them in college and has to work for them for 3 years or pay half back. She can't wait to get out of there and has considered just cutting her losses and paying them back. It's an extremely difficult, sad and usually thankless job that is not for everyone. When I'm with her I definitely don't complain about my own job.

Always helpful to not ever send the kids to school and take them away on constant bus trips to perform beg and hide you from oversight in other states.

I guess I will post this here, since it's the only place it seems to fit...

About a week sgo., Duggars tutor Laura started a Go Fund Me so she could go to Puerto Rico. One of the "new" four-seater Duggar planes landed there about 15 minutes ago. No clue JD could fly outside the US (they spent the night in the Bahamas), who else went, or what cargo they could carry aside from cases of tracts. I really don't know how much help 3 Duggars and an adjacent tutor could be without equipment of their own.

Stay tuned, I guess. Laura's IG is private, but some FJers got in before she locked it down.

To be fair, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but at least they actually went there. We keep saying why don’t they go and “minister” where there is real need. Maybe they are actually trying. It’s more than I’ve done; my $ donations seem so little compared to the need. If they DO do more than hand out tracks, I will give them credit this time.

I can't disagree with that.  I won't condemn them either if they actually do some good.

That's why I had the caveat of a "wait and see" attitude. Let's see some evidence of what they're doing. As I noted before, Laura's IG will likely be the window through which we see what they do.

I hope TLC had no part in this. We know that the main crew is in Greece, or was a couple of days ago. I don't want to see them doing this for the glory of a TV show. Laura's already been on the show, directing traffic at Joy's wedding, so it's a tough call. I want to think that they have the best intentions, but the cynical part of me can't completely erase the doubt.

I forgot to tell you guys...

I'm on a closed FB page for homeschoolers and who pops up but Jill Rod.  Made some show off post about how she has finished preparing lesson plans for the ENTIRE year for ALL of her kids and how she feels SO GOOD to be so prepared with a new baby on the way.  Posted pictures of all her books, curriculum etc.  Then briefly mentioned their MINISTRY.

Of course, some people gushed and she just basked in the praise by graciously answering ALL their questions so PATIENTLY.

I imagine she posted the same post on 25 closed homeschooling pages.

I have been assuming that Nurie takes over the entire 'education' system now. That at least would explain how Jilly has time to set up all those curricula and still spend so much time brag-posting about it online.

Maybe the Duggars saw the Bates boys helping people out in Texas and decided to put their money where their mouth is. Idk what use Laura will be but some of the boys are very able bodied and could be of some help. I hope they don't start posting selfies with the poor kids because we all know fetuses are more important to these idiots.

For some reason I'm still following Jessa's bff, the T4L girl, but she recently asked for donations for a "mission" trip in Africa. All she's done in the week she's been there is post pictures with 2 very sad looking girls while she's smiling away like an idiot. She sure is spending a lot of time on SM liking pictures for someone who's supposed to be making a difference in these people's lives in such a short amount of time.

Yes, help shouldn't be tied to pushing your religious agenda.  We have a church in my area and they offer food to the homeless once a week, which is very nice, however they must sit through a long sermon before being fed.  I find that so manipulative.  If you want to feed the hungry, great, but no strings attached.  Why not offer the food first and allow those who wish to sit through the sermon to do so?

I saw a similar post on her Facebook page. A stack of books for each child in the photo, and a message saying she's got such bad morning sickness that they have to start later and please pray for her to be raised on an even higher pedestal for being such a perfect mother. Or did she say to help with morning sickness? Either one.

And isn't a stack of books set out up to a year in advance such an inspiring version of education. Does she use the Wisdom booklets?
