Your're right, I guess I was thinking more of the water gun assaulting. There was nothing "wrong" with the non-White Lotus pool, being less posh or otherwise, and they did ask for an "adventure."

It is.  I've been surprised a few times to discover that an actor or actress that looks white (to me) has a non-white parent. 

And if the owner of the hotel is Thai, they should have cast one of those actors and not Walton Goggins who doesn't appear to be of Asian descent.

But I don't know if we know the ethnicity of her husband. Do we even know his name?

Well, we do because Scott Glenn has been cast as the husband/hotel owner who had a stroke.  Firmly putting long lost daddy back on the table.

I think Valentin is up to something shady because Jacklyn asked for something with music and partying and he sent her to a pool exactly like the White Lotus except with all older people. Then he told them to go shopping knowing they would get soaked and wouldn’t like it. It’s possible he is setting up something with his friends to rob them but something is going on. I agree that Greg would not go anywhere near White Lotus and with his kind of money he could go anywhere.

I got the impression that Jaclyn was so horrified about being in the seniors' resort because she realized Valentin sees her (and the other two) as old as everyone else at that resort.  And that's why she forced him along on the 2nd ride, in an attempt to prove that they're young and fun.  I don't know if he's up to anything untoward, other than getting 3 American women to pay for drinks for him and his buddies all night.  I wouldn't be surprised if they were "robbed" at some point, though. 

And yes, my suspicions go to these guys as the ones who robbed the gift shop.

Gaitok is just stupid.  He can't figure out that Mook isn't into him.  He's easily flattered by Valentin, allowing the bad guys into the hotel.  And JFC, he's given a gun because there's an increase in crime, and then leaves the gun sitting out in the open.  Sorry, he's just dumb.  He deserves to be fired.  I don't even care about the conversations with him and Mook any more.  Let me sum up:  Oh, Mook, you're so pretty!  Oh, Gaitok, I'm so glad you're my friend.  

I have no idea what Timothy will do with the gun.  This is not a problem you can shoot your way out of.  But why do I fear that Piper or Lochlan will end up dead by the end of this season?  

Rick & Chelsea - I don't think Sritala is Rick's dad, now posing/transitioned to a woman.  That's a step too far for this show.  I can buy the theory that Sritala's husband is Rick's dad, though.  He never died, just left his mom for a Thai woman, so Rick's mom made up the story about him being killed.  

I was in Thailand and Cambodia several years ago.  I didn't experience the water pistols, but in Cambodia while on a bus to Siam Riep (the city near Angor Wat), we had a rest stop and there was a market next to the bus stop.  The local kids got their fun by taking giant spiders (bodies the size of a child's fist) and putting them on foreigners when they got off the bus.  They'd just laugh as white people were screaming to get the spiders off them.  I have no problem with spiders, and I knew this was coming. So I just handed my camera to someone, smiled and said "take a picture!"  Poor kids, they were so sad.

I agree that we haven’t really seen all that much of Thailand this season in the show, and the characters have mostly been fairly unlikable, more so than previous seasons.

i can’t imagine what Tim thinks he’s going to do with the gun, he doesn’t seem like the suicidal type.  
 

i do hope Belinda will be ok.  She’s about the only one I like.

Yeah this was another super boring episode.  I am so not interested in most of the stories.  I don’t care at all about Mook and what’s his name.

Belinda is annoying.  Also she just walks around and gets massages.  Boring!  Why does everyone love her?
 

Wait so people think Sritala, the woman is Rick’s father?  More likely it would be her husband, right?  He doesn’t look Asian to me at all.

btw I don’t know how everyone can keep everyone’s names straight, or even understand half of the names.  I had to look up IMDb for Sritala’s name.

I'm going to guess that after he took the gun, he didn't know what he was going to do with it. But at the moment, he was completely stressed out after that phone call. He was panicking. He was dry-heaving. I can imagine that seeing the gun just seemed like a desperate solution to his feeling of being overwhelmed and hopeless.

I don't want to call Gaitok dumb. Seems like all his thoughts and motivations are based on Mook. He wants to be a tough guy (like a bodyguard) to impress her. He's distracted by her and forgets the gun. I'm not blaming her for his mistake, just explaining it. He IS a gentle guy and needs to be in a different occupation, like hospitality, as people here have said.

But Mook needs to be direct with him. Either agree to a date or tell him she just wants to be friends. She has never been absolutely clear with him. She obviously likes him, but maybe not that way, or she's keeping her options open. 

Re Valentin, I haven't seen him be devious or sneaky. He almost seems naive. Maybe he's just so good at hiding his true intentions. But right now I don't see him as having ulterior motives.

Out of all the storylines, the one with Gaitok and Mook is to me by far the most sleep inducing.  I really couldn't care less about either of them, which is unfortunate since this is the only storyline that involves Thai locals only.

I think he's a complete idiot and not very smart.  He seems to be pushing 40 and he acts like he's never had a girlfriend before.  I agree with the comment that every waking moment of his is spent obsessing about Mook.  I forget the exact backstory... but I think they been friends for a long time, from the same village?  If so, they have known each other for years.  Why is it now that he is suddenly obsessed with her?  If he has been obsessed for years, why is it only now that he is finally doing something about it?  She friendzoned him years ago, and it's an indication of how unobservant he is.  He is unfit to be a security guard.

People here keep saying that Mook wants to be with a prestigious man which is why she keeps asking if he got the promotion.  Even if he got the promotion, I don't think she would suddenly want to marry him.  I think she's just asking because she is a friend who wants her friend to succeed.  If she was interested in marrying rich or being with someone presigious, she could easily find a rich guest.  Or have her pick from among the other employees (the spa guy, Fabian, Valentin) who have better jobs.  Or find someone else in her life away from work that is much better than Gaitok.

Wanting a partner who is ambitious and has goals doesn't make her a gold digger -- it makes her a woman who knows what she wants. 

Calling her a gold digger implies that she shouldn't have any standards for what she's looking for in a relationship and should just be happy and grateful that someone is interested in her. 

Women are not automatically gold diggers simply because they have standards in what they want in a partner. Some women might be perfectly happy with a man who has no greater ambition than being a gate guard -- Mook isn't one of them.  It doesn't make her a gold digger. 

If she was a gold digger, she'd be going after a guest, or one of the LBHs.

It depends on how old the policy is.  The suicide clause in many life insurance policies states they won't pay out if the suicide happens within a certain time period after the policy is taken out or updated.  I think it's about 2-3 years.  But they will pay out after that amount of time.

I can’t imagine them revealing that Sritala is Rick’s father (or mother, for that matter).

Mike White is smart enough to know that there would be a huge controversy if he gave the role of a half-Asian character to a white actor.

(See, for example, how thoroughly the movie Aloha was trashed for featuring Emma Stone as a half-Asian woman who looks very white.)

Walton, not Walter. Though I agree Walter scans much better. Walton Goggins is kind of a clunky name.

Is there extradition from Thailand? Maybe that's why Greg changed his name, although having conspicuous consumption draws attention. On the other hand, it isn't clear that the authorities are hell-bent on getting him back. Belinda would be better off notifying one of those true crime shows or podcasts if she wants some action. Looking at Greg very suspiciously isn't the best way to convince him that she's no threat, though.

Thailand does have an extradition agreement, for serious crimes, with Italy, which is where the crime occurred.

Seriously, tho', fractional boat/yacht ownership is a thing and ownership is a lot harder to track than you might think. A LOT of mega yachts are owned by LLCs and/or some sort of corporate entity in a foreign country, which is owned by another LLC or corporate entity in another foreign country, etc. . . .

In the Inside Episode 4 feature, the actress who plays Mook strongly suggests that Mook sees Gaitok as a romantic possibility, but only if he proves himself to be sufficiently ambitious. 

I don't like the way she's stringing him along in case she wants him. And I don't like the way he's mooning over her like someone half his age. They're not a compelling romantic storyline for me at all.

Definitely not realistic but then again we wouldn't have a show if Belinda acted more discreetly upon finding things out.   But yes I was annoyed with the reactions.   She seems the obvious person as the body but I'm guessing it's not her.

I have to admit, Jason Issac's accent may be...something, but his acting, his character, is a hoot to watch.  the characters of this season may be fairly boring or awful, but i enjoy watching Issac act the hell outta Tim.

I am oddly fascinated with Piper.  From the first very uncomfortable interaction between her and Saxon where he grabs her and she quite seriously tells him to stop while her parents stand idly by, I am wondering at her motivation to move to Thailand for a year.  We see doing a lot of reading, but her interest in the actual monastery seems cursory at best - she visits once with Lockey but decides not to go further, and she briefly stops again to make an appointment but doesn't seem to be all that interested in the surroundings, IMO.

Yeah, I thought that from the time the robbery occured. Valentin was the distraction that allowed Gaitok to ignore the motorcycles zooming in to do the robbery. I don't think Valentin is innocent at all.

Agree! I don't dislike her necessarily, but 1st - if you're on a work exchange, why is she getting gussied up every night and eating in the dining room, drinking, etc? Maybe she'd get that more standard hotel room, but wouldn't she be generally working / training at least a standard 40ish hours per week? 2nd, she's pretty casual with her trainer, it seems odd to me.
