Quinta has been great so far,

She was born for this.

Some of the sketches I felt were a little lacklustre, and didn't showcase her when I thought they should have, but whatever.

Some of the humour was very relatable.  I totally can relate to the Bridesmaids sketch, but that could have been anyone in Quinta's place.  She was great in the highway/driving sketch.  I had to Google the Panic! at the Disco lyrics.  I did not know that song at all.  Maybe an age thing?  I don't know.  But I COULD relate to the PDD sketch - I too did not want to figure out the subway when I visited NYC and just walked everywhere (LOL) and I also had nightmares the last time I had oxtail.

Funny how Quinta's goodbye speech went on forever like she was accepting an award.  Got cut off on my side, but I'm sure SNL will put it on their Twitter.  (Sad, thinking about how Twitter used to be a reliable social media.)

Aww man, the original post I had here got deleted during Update. Let's see what I remember

Cold Open: "Hello, it's me, the problem." They couldn't resist Trump getting indicated. I actually loved this one.

And yes, the J6 Choir is real. (They bring it up in Update)

I thought they actually got Afroman, but I thought Devon Walker was shorter than that.

Monologue: Quinta is so so good. Loved how she devoted so much of her monologue to teachers. Yeah, every time someone brings up a problem in the school system (especially charter schools), some idiot on twitter expects her to solve it. And like Aubrey Plaza brought in Biden, Quinta brought in her good friend Barack.

Men's Room: Oh, Quinta is tiny, especially next to Devon Walker. This was great. I expected someone to say something like "this cocaine is so white, it's like the SNL cast up until 2018." Loved this.

I Was A Bridesmaid: I know several women who were bridesmaids in a short amount of time, it all sounds horrifying. One of my friends was a bridesman. He's a lot like Bowen's character. Fun Fact about him: he left a bachelorette party he was at in Upstate NY to make it to the bachelor party I was at in Pennsylvania.

Couple Goals: This was fun and dark. I got a big laugh out of "I dunno, snake world?!" and everything Kenan did. Ego didn't do anything, and she managed to steal the whole sketch.

Traffic: I had a feeling Quinta wanted to yell "EAT SHIT" so bad. Love how silly this got. Really loved the camera angles in this sketch. Liked how Mikey acted out "race-ist" by running in place.

WU: Someone in the graphic department had fun making Biden look like the Six Flags Guy. Okay folks, Update is broken, and a sketch is getting cut. That was a hell of a break from Colin, that was a classic prank from Che. Michael Longfellow's bit as Michelangelo's David was great, and he's certainly helping that makeup department earn another Emmy between this and the cocaine sketch.

Midwife Barry: Okay, so they put the 12:50 sketch that was gonna get cut right now. It was okay until they got to "THREE YEARS AGO" and "FOURTEEN YEARS EARLIER" and "SEVENTEEN YEARS AFTER THE BARBEQUE AND THE MACKLEMORE CONCERT." Bowen's hair getting progressively longer (and then shorter in the flashback) killed me. The ending was riding on that kid's one line, and she nailed it.

Office: Okay, Sarah Sherman sketch. She was funny enough (talk about looking like the Six Flags Guy), and then here comes Quinta. Loving that balding cap on her. When they came out as The Penis Brothers? THAT was the Sarah twist I was waiting for.

Please Don't Destroy: Love seeing the boys out of the office. Got a big laugh out of "Domnhall Trump." They're somehow even whiter than the Lonely Island guys. The plate of the plainest chicken I'd ever seen was too spicy for them. Pronouncing it as "bod-egg-ah" physically hurt me.

All in all, S-tier episode. Loved it. Molly Shannon hosts next week. Can't wait. Shoutout to Lil Yachty wearing the gopher from Caddyshack on his head.

I thought it was a middling episode - not terrible, not outstanding. I liked the twist the miming-in-car bit took, one of the "it's so white" lines was pretty funny, and I thought the "David" bit during WU was funny and the makeup work was awesome.

The married couple sketch just seemed bland. I liked the first time Kenan did the falling-down-the-stairs part but the heightening in the Aruba part was predictable.

Please Don't Destroy (thanks Ms Blue Jay)- well, I still think the only reason they got picked out of all the sketch groups in NY is their dads. They're not bad, but they never really make me laugh and laugh.

Yay, Abbott!!

They're called Please Don't Destroy. The  Lonely Island is Andy Samberg's group.

PDD doesn't really do music, do they?  And now that Chris Redd is off the show, I guess there won't be many musical numbers, unless they're by the women.

I have to say that Colin getting pranked that badly on Update is probably the funniest thing I've seen on the show in forever. That was absolutely hilarious. I'm surprised he kept it together as well as he did.

The new cast- Michael, Molly, Marcello, and Devon- are all coming along very nicely. I realized in the Bridesmaid sketch, how much range Molly really has in all the different kinds of characters they can play.

Speaking of the Bridesmaids sketch, I totally lived the Groomsman in hell version of it a few years ago. The memory lingers.

I thought Quinta was really good. It's always nice to see someone host who always dreamed of doing the show.

The last wedding I was in, it was for one of my closest female friends from high school, but because of stupid gender norms I got put with the groomsmen and I was always either bored or anxious. It felt like school! I also appreciated the dig about bridesmaids at gay bars — a lot of gay bars nowadays don’t allow bachelorette parties because of the “petting zoo” aspect.

I love when sketches get weirder and weirder and I’m fascinated by child actors that can crush a sketch at 1 AM local time.

If I may be indulgent for a weird soapbox moment: I’ve known people who have died because they unknowingly did coke laced with fentanyl, but I thought the sketch was really funny and actually liked it BETTER because of the fentanyl punchline at the end; I would have been annoyed if they were gonna do a sketch based about the premise and then dance around it. Good for them for going there.

I’m a huge fan of Abbott Elementary but it was really fun to see Quinta playing “normal” people. I thought everyone’s facial expressions in the Newlywed Game sketch were hilarious.

Can I steal “Petite prince” if I’m 5’7”?

Fixed it, thank you!

I thought the same thing!

I kinda wish we had gotten a whole sketch on the Gwyneth Paltrow ski trial. That whole thing was so weird. I thought it was perfect for the show to skewer.

Just briefly, it's funny you say that. In my case, the other groomsmen all knew each other from school, and I was definitely the outsider. it was so awkward  I ended up wondering why I was asked to participate. The sketch did remind me of how anxious I felt.

My theory that they wouldn’t parody Gwyneth was correct, she’s a former host and her ex has a strong relationship with the show, so I didn’t think they would make fun of her.

The car sketch had me howling, Quinta and Mikey were perfect, I liked that they went with a new camera angle.

I’m not surprised people think PDD are just nepo babies, but I think they are hilarious. I loved this piece.

I spent the entire “bathroom/cocaine” skit thinking that if it was about opium or crack and the jokes were about Asian or Black stereotypes, the internet would have exploded.

The driving dad wasn’t much better, though the way that played out was fun.

Which got me thinking, I guess the only people it is OK to make fun of are (usually older) white men (often overweight and bald).

Loved the host. Haven’t seen the show she is on, but may check it out now.

Also lived Che messing with Jost.

Later update: Finally saw the skits after WU. Like others, not sure what the point of the harassment skit was, other than making fun of men or male tropes (even if these men were played by women).

It finally hit me that the please don’t destroy guys have always reminded me of really lame Beastie Boys.

I can’t believe that sexual harassment sketch made it to air.

Quinta has star quality.

I was wondering what was wrong with the WU audience. What a great prank and great reaction from Jost.

I hated that cold open. It wasn’t worse than some of their others but this one just seemed particularly pointless to me.

By my local time, the show seemed to be running past midnight but Quinta’s ending goodbyes sounded like someone told her to stretch because the show ran short. Then she got cut off anyway. Odd.

I've never heard of Afroman -- Well, actually, I saw him referenced on Mastodon, but I forgot to google him. Anyway, in this sketch I thought Afroman must be really tall, but apparently he's 5'6". A petite prince. :D

I thought it was awful. My guess is that Sarah wrote it. Talk about cringe humor. But I will say that Quinta was great in it, as she was (and is) in everything.

I was wondering about the audience, too. I didn't think the jokes were hilarious, but I thought the audience should have laughed somewhat. My thought was that they hadn't been following the news. But then Che revealed his prank. I may be one of the few who isn't enamored of their pranking each other.

I always appreciate JAJ's Trump impression. Looks like he added a few mannerisms, although I may have just not noticed them before. The one laugh I got out of this was when he called Bragg the evil Manhattan "dah." :D

I liked all the white lines in the cocaine sketch.

The bridesmaids sketch was funny. Lots of good bits in that.

Couple Goals was ok. However, I didn't think that was a good title for this particular game show. The funniest part to me was the name of the host, Bob Dabilda.

I absolutely loved the traffic jam sketch. Lots of LOL moments. Maybe the best was the first time Ego popped up from the backseat. It was a little weird that she looked directly at the camera instead of toward Mikey, but it actually made it even funnier. The second best thing was the second time she popped up. I also loved when Mikey mimed 'bitch' by pointing at his daughter.

WU - I don't know why, but I always laugh at references to the dancing Six Flags guy. And now the song is in my head. When Michael first appeared as Michelangelo's David, I thought it was great. I kinda wish he could have done the whole thing without moving, though I thought it was hilarious how he screamed when he turned his head. But I didn't really like the penis jokes. They played into the narrative that the statue is pornographic.

I liked Che's joke about the woman's dispensary shutting down because she couldn't open a weed jar. (But really, is that the first woman-owned dispensary?)

The midwife sketch was ok. My favorite part was when Bowen came in with the ridiculously long hair and could barely keep it together.

The do not destroy video was pretty good.

I was not a fan of the musical performances.

But I am a fan of Quinta. I loved her on Black Lady Sketch Show. I love her on Abbott Elementary. I thought she was great here.

I almost gave up on Abbott Elementary. I started watching when it first started, but I baled during the second ep. I just wasn't in the mood for a show that seemed to be about problems in public schools. But after a few weeks I went back, and I'm glad I did.

Exactly. If they can't show it on a late night show after midnight it might make you think it shouldn't be shown in elementary school.

I don't think there would be a way for them to have worked it in but as part of the display of the replica of David in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London they have in a separate little glass case the plaster fig leaf they made to cover him up when Queen Victoria visited.

Because it probably wouldn’t have been funny.   It would depend on how the jokes were written.   Most Asian and Black jokes based on negative stereotypes.   The white jokes in this sketch were not for the most part.

This particular episode made fun of women/brides, married couples, cocaine users, old black bald men, young white men (pdd), Floridians, and pretty much everyone.

Yeah, that would have been good, or I was expecting something Abbott Elementary ish.

They really should have done a Gwyneth sketch for the cold open, reading about how everyone is just sick of Trump by now.  That kind of musical humour doesn't do it for me either.

It would have been fun if Gwyneth had showed up to lampoon the trial. She was a recurring host, after all.

It would have gotten people to blast her for gloating about getting away with it because she's a rich white woman.  She (or her publicist) should be smart enough to realize that the best thing to do is to say nothing and continue on with her life.

Wow. That's an interesting and very astute catch! I never really pay much attention to those clocks except maybe once in awhile to get a rough estimate at the length of the cold open.

I know! I love that crane shot at the opening anyway (bookended by the same shot in reverse, when end credits are allowed to fully run). But it caught my eye because I couldn't believe the cold open was only 3 minutes.

This is crazy to me!  To think that a grown woman should not see a human body.

I think this episode was better than maybe any other episode this season.  I actually loved all of the sketches.

NO, The Cold Open Was NOT Pointless ! Donald Trump Got As He Said Indicated And He Was Playing To His Base With Don King ! ! Don Jr Had To Say Good Bye To His Father And He Was Very Emotional ! NO, The Show Had Not Run Short ! Week End Update Was Over FIFTEEN Minutes Long ! That Was The Host Was Running Long So They Had To Cut Her OFF !

They do impressions of her, don't they?  From what I've read about the trial, I don't think she'd be pilloried too much.

Did they get away with the sexual harassment skit because women were playing the male roles?  I really was surprised a Benny Hill-like skit was approved for 2023.

Did anyone else notice that Quinta seemed to be actually playing bongos on Chloe's chest? I wonder if that was an improv move to get Chloe to break character?

There aren't any official writing credits, so she may have contributed, but when I was watching Saturday Night Network last night, they credited the PDD guys, and Jake Nordwind and Mike DiCenzo.

The most interesting part of the sketch for me was how after years of women in drag roles (particularly Kate) being treated as some kind of amazing heroes, they now turned the tables and just had an incredibly ugly sketch which mostly got through because women were in the parts. Not anything I need to ever see again though.

(I have a feeling the "you're fired" ending is the only way it was able to get on the air)

Here are some of the other writing credits.

Back in 2019, after Heidi played a Goop employee, Gwyneth did a cameo in a second appearance of the character (second and final).

They did a Gwyneth Update piece last night which got cut (Heidi and Chloe). I can't say I'm sorry to not see it.

I'm glad Quinta got the chance to show everyone that she has more to offer than her Abbott Elementary character.

You should watch Black Lady Sketch Show. She was terrific. I think she was only in Season 1. Plus, it was a great show, especially the first season, but the second was fun, too. My favorite sketch was "The Boppers,"  first season. I watched it over and over.

Considering all her children, Queen Victoria probably wouldn't have been shocked. 😉

To the news story: It takes a fairly unaware teacher not to know that public schools are under attack; that censorship of school libraries is on the rise; and that faculty had best follow the curriculum as written and on file (if this was any kind of normal US public school), or risk their jobs. I'm glad I taught in the 20th C.

I didn't know what was going on with "WU," but was so uncomfortable with no laughs that I turned off and deleted my recording! I hate pranks. Like, for real.

Two-handed "you suck," lol. But where are people driving that they feel safe arguing with other drivers on the freeway? In a lot of places that's likely to get you shot.

For a few seconds into his first song I thought Lil Yachty was cast member Devon Walker and it was a skit.

I didn't know Colin socializes with cannibal Armie Hammer. Yikes. That's not funny at all IMO.

What was that thing on Lil Yachty's head during the second song? I got itchy just looking at it.

Quinta ruled like the queen she is. She was torally game and the cast seemed to enjoy working with her. In fact, I think some of them were deferring to her a bit in the sketches. She needs to guest host a couple of times a year like John Mulaney so she can get a 5-timer jacket.

I didn't find that bit funny, either. It felt like an inside joke that had nothing to do with me, but that I was forced to be a part of. Jost and Che should prank each other on their own time, IMO.
