Not true! The Contest Host looked up last year's scores. You got 0s in Weeks 31 and 32 but that's as far as that streak went. Plus you won Player of the Week in Week 31, which negates anything bad into good. Happy New Year from Saber!

Thanks!!
Glad this awful run isn't a common occurrence for me 😂

Happy New Year!

3/5 with 1 *.

Godot finally popped into my brain at the last second for Monday while the Arno wouldn't appear at all (even as I muttered, you know, the river through Florence at least twice}.

For Wednesday I had to reread the clue to get from the Titanic to the Carpathia in time (the date in the clue got me there in time).  Thursday my brain couldn't even process the clue enough to begin to come up with any guess.

Just like last Friday, I was tired and cranky enough to say if its not Lennon and McCartney, I don't care - Simon and Garfunkel never occurred to me.

Thanks again everyone for good wishes - still feeling congested and tired but hope I am on the road to recovery.  Still have no food to offer up for the tables - any imaginative energy is in rare supply these days.

Happy New Year to all and please stay safe and healthy!

3/5 for me, no A*. I named every arctic explorer except Scott for Thursday, and Friday I read the clue as one of the two was "a drunk." I went through S+G, Everly Brothers, Jan + Dean and came back to S+G, although I couldn't decide which one was the drunk. I never imagined the answer would be part of a four-person group.

Even though I somehow didn't take "duo" literally—that didn't help me.
I really should watch/play Jeopardy! in the mornings, but I like feeling I'm part of the zeitgeist.

Week sixteen: big, fat zero!

I'm blaming it on the sugar rush / tryptophan overdose that is the week between Christmas and New Year's. Though I made a fabulous Buche de Noel - a Yule log rolled chocolate cake, with a peanut butter whipped cream filling and a peanut butter butter-cream icing. I gained five pounds during the holidays!

I’m back. Happy New Year everyone. 🎊  Last week my score was 1/5 with one *.

Welcome back, hope you had a good, fun and relaxing time. We recorded 1+1A* for Week 16, last week, but are missing your score for Week 15. If you posted it, would you repost please? And thank you.

I'm looking forward to whatever you decide to bring to the tables. Which reminds me, I haven't thought about my contribution yet. Yipes.

Happy New Year to you (and everyone) 🎊 It was a wonderful mini vacation and it took a day to get used to being device free of all media. My score was the week before probably a zero.

Edited to add it was a zero and I made coffee cake.

1/5 this week.  If the rest of this year is going to be like this, I don't want to play anymore.

Aww. Me too. But I'm not quite ready to quit. I almost quit the NY Times crossword this week over a plagiarism kerfuffle.

Regardless, here are some Baby Shark cookies for us 1/5ers:

Since they are virtual, they are sugar free and made with all natural ingredients.

Week ending 1/7:

2/5, no * (but both my right answers were instagets).

Anyone interested in a salted caramel & chocolate milkshake (with homemade chocolate syrup)? (I went for vanilla ice cream but there was very little ice cream at all to be had and salted caramel [vanilla with caramel swirls] was the closest I could get.)

My facebook memories today have two Jeopardy references. In 2014 I was rooting for an antiquarian bookseller (he won with $12K), and in 2020 I said "Well, I'm certainly not the Jeopardy greatest of all time..." 🙃

WEEK 17 • Jan. 3, 2022 — ONE asterisk   ONE A*
81. Sculptors. Los Angeles artist George Stanley sculpted this, first handed out at a private banquet on May 16, 1929.
* A* 82. Word Origins. From the Greek for “ring”, the first ones were built by the Romans, including one that could hold 250,000. * A*
83. The 1950s. The first TV debate between presidential candidates of the same party involved him & future running mate Estes Kefauver.
84. Historic Buildings. Begun in the 1070s with stone from Caen, it was meant to dominate both a skyline & the hearts & minds of a conquered populace.
85. 20th Century Nonfiction. “Norwegian Independence Day” & “A Vast Blue Sea” are mentioned in Chapter 1 of a 1948 book by this man.

3/5 - I figured out Oscar from the date and description in the clue. I read Heyerdahl’s books and I wanted to sail on the Kon-Tiki when I-was a kid even tho I had never even seen the ocean. I figured it couldn’t be much different than swimming in the Monongahela River! And I remember the Stevenson/Kefauver ticket, it was probably the first election I followed closely.  I guessed coliseum since Rome had one but couldn’t come up with the Tower of London.

4/5 no A* for me. I answered amphitheater. Our Contest Host is proud to have gotten 2/5 this week. She also wants to say to @Browncoat, do not get discouraged, it was just two weeks ago you scored a FOUR, and have gotten 4s five times so far this season while our host has never gotten a 4, one 3 is her highest this season. Although granted, she realizes she has set a low bar. A VERY low bar.

I am bringing bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers, plus some bacon-less ones for people who are on restricted diets. A big side of ranch will accompany the poppers, enough to share with wing eaters. Soup sounds fantastic, and hot tea, then Baby Shark cookies for desert, although they are so adorable how can we eat them?
