Sutton is so insecure and painfully awkward. I actually feel for her because I feel like she seems uncomfortable in her own skin and incredibly insecure. That is unusual for someone her age. Her self-esteem seems really fragile for a real housewife - that’s a really tough environment where having a huge ego despite your uselessness is a prerequisite.

Sutton is definitely overreacting, but I’m going to show her some grace based on the fact that mid-pandemic, none of us were at out best. She seems particularly fragile. I DON’T LIKE CRYSTAL. Not that I particularly like any of these women (except Garcelle), but she likes herself waaaaaaay too much, and is bullying the awkward nose-picker in the class. Not cool.

She did also give a good demonstration of white fragility in this ep. There was a conversation going on about the perspectives of two non-white people about racist stereotypes. Sutton jumps in to shut it down and winds up crying about the idea of not being seen as free of racial bias and looking for reassurance about how isn't true that Southerners like her have it especially rough. So it became about her feelings and how hard it is to be considered racist.

I completely get why Crystal and everyone else is exhausted by Sutton's insecurities/awkwardness, but it's what makes her weirdly interesting Housewife. And while her White Woman Tears are as predictable AF, and she should rightfully be called out for it,  I think it's just as melodramatic and not particularly enlightened to call her out in front of everyone for her essential personality, and bitch to her friend using the C word. I relate a lot to Sutton, and we're the same age, I've been there even in adulthood where I think everyone was talking to each other and NOT me, that never feels good, no matter if it's a joke or not. And she was right the only one besides her that wasn't in on the joke was Kyle, and that has to do more with Kyle's complete self absorption/obliviousness, rather than her not feeling left out. 

Meanwhile I'm totally enjoying Kathy Hilton's obliviousness, she's on the other end of Sutton, extremely secure in her social status relative to this group of women, she's having a lot of fun, and I relate to deciding to eat chips and crack a red bull at 1am when I should be going to sleep, always been a night owl.  

The best of the night goes to the editors/producers for correcting Crystal's insistence Sutton is 20 years older than her to 12 years. LOL. 

The fact that we're stuck with Erika/Rinna and have no Denise still sucks, but I'm here for Garcelle just holding Rinna to absolute account as a disloyal bitch who will throw a long close friendship in the trash for a single seasons worth of reality tv drama. Get her Garcelle.

The title is pretty instructive.

Sutton has to give. Presents. Support to the mean girls. Apologies for her opinion and insecurity and anxiety.

If she doesn’t the hyenas will rip her to shreds.

Sutton is awkward and insecure and shy. Denise Richards for all her tough girl bravado couldn’t stand up to the pack. When you feel like everyone is against you it is hard to be “cool.”

On the other hand this new girl is very impressed with herself. Not for any reason I can see.

Agreed. I get that Sutton reacts weirdly to things. I was very put off by her the last episode. She can come across ignorant, but I feel bad for her at the same time. I don't think she's malicious. I think she's probably a nice person whose insecurities cause her to react strangely. I think she feels like for one reason or another people aren't going to like her. 

Women in this particular cast can behave like vultures. Jury's out on Crystal for me, but we've seen the way some of the others treated Denise and LVP. Those two both have very strong self-esteem and are very confident socially. They were still picked on to the point of tears and wanted out. Poor Sutton is definitely in over her head on a Housewife show.

That prank and reverse prank was everything a prank should be.  Regardless of what Sutton was saying or felt, it was a victimless prank.  It was light hearted.  In the end, the target was the original prankster.

Not everyone knew at the same time.  When it came around to informing Sutton, instead of getting excited she was let in on the joke, she chose to play victim for not being informed sooner. And she blamed Crystal, the person who informed her.

The next day, Crystal tried to have a conversation with Sutton about it and Sutton still made it about her.  

Crystal tried to let Sutton in on the prank so she wouldn't be left out and, instead of appreciating the effort, she was mad at her.  

She's trying to make it seem like she's a victim to Crystal's bullying so if Crystal ever tries insinuating that Sutton might unintentionally buy into a racist system again, it'll be dismissed as part of a bullying pattern instead of identifying something that might have a kernel of truth to it. 

All Sutton needed to do is actually listen to Crystal instead of acting defensive.  That's how you show you can be a mature woman about racial issues. 

On a lighter note, it cracks me up that Lisa and Garcelle are usually the two people who are punctual and on time and therefore get stuck together, even with the issues between them, waiting for the others.   "Look at that beam."  Heh.

I agree with everything you said! I have to admit I hated Crystal and liked Sutton in the first episode. But now the tables have turned. Crystal was trying to bring Sutton in on the joke, and Sutton totally misunderstood and weirdly played the victim role. It was honestly super strange.

Mileage truly varies because I view that situation exactly as Garcelle summed it up - that sometimes two people's energy/spirit just don't mix. Crystal and Sutton simply don't get each other at all and it's causing a lot of innocent situations to become more. But I certainly did not see Crystal bullying Sutton in any way. 

Sutton struck first when Crystal was actually speaking to Kyle and I feel trying to emphasize to Kyle what Garcelle had said to her about some of the stereotypes against black/minority women. For whatever reason, Sutton decided to make that personal and about her and rudely interrupt Crystal, trying to shut the conversation down entirely and defensively declare how she will not speak about race. And then things just went left from there.

The prank thing was equally ridiculous. First of all, Krystal was not let in on the prank either or being texted to. As Garcelle noted, she just figured out what was going on without anyone telling her. And it's clear that she was actually trying to warmly engage with Sutton, whispering to her and sort of doing a wink, wink nudge and Sutton's nutty self took things personally. Because she's a ball of raging insecurity. Even Kyle kept telling her she needed to calm the fuck down.

Ironically, Dorit (child of the world!) also offered her an assist when Erika didn't agree with her theory that white Southerners are constantly assumed to be racist. She suggested that maybe Erika didn't have that experience because her accent wasn't as strong as Sutton's so people didn't immediately know she was from the South. Unfortunately she suggested this was because Erika had spent less time there and lived other "multicultural" places most of her life, and Sutton took that to mean Dorit thinks she's from some hick town she left 3 days ago!

In both of those cases, Sutton started the drama. There would have been none had she not overreacted to two situations that weren't about her.

ETA: The title is clearly a play on the expression "something's gotta give." I doubt very strongly it's a call to action on the producers' part re Sutton.

I always thought LVP quit because the others were calling her out for her bullshit and she just couldn't take it being called out for it. And ran away from having to deal with that (Throw me to the wolves, and I run away with my tail between my legs).

Yeah I can see this being the theme this season...Sutton starting shit, then crying about how those nasty women are ganging up on her and trying to rip her to shreds because white woman tears or something.

I don't feel remotely sorry for Sutton. My opinion is that she's playing it up for screentime and feels she needs to earn that diamond this year, and thinks picking fights with the newbie is the way to go. And seeing how emotional she gets makes her look like an even bigger asshole than I originally thought for the way she treated Teddi last year.

This may be the lamest "To Be Continued..." cliffhanger I've ever seen.

Seeing how... weird... Kathy is makes me wonder how Kyle ended up so relatively well adjusted. She’s neurotic at times but her sisters both seem to have barely matured into adulthood.
