Agreed - the usual half of a bedsheet they usually put the women in covers up some of the hip action (of lack thereof).

Whole point of costuming. I can tell you from experience why there are certain standard costumes in different dance styles. Proper costuming saved my ass more than once as a newb.

Whomever is assigned to Justina this season is doing her dirty.

I kept thinking why is he wearing eyeliner. Didn't they say he was dressed as George Michael?

Bruno was George Michael, Derek was supposed to be emulating David Bowie.

Oh, I didn't even think Bruno was dressed up as anyone! Who was Carrie-Ann supposed to be?

PS If Tom was there, I'd be paying more attention. I'm still waiting for Tyra to magically be replaced so will listen to the host.

I'm a little shocked at the problems that AJ seemed to be having all season. I'm a big boy band fan and although I dont think they are ringers,  one thing they do have going for them is remembering choreography pretty easily. Also, they are good at covering mistakes and can keep on going. They aren't always the best dancers but usually the best entertainers. And they are definitely hard workers. So, I'm not sure what the heck went wrong with AJ.

IMO, BSB weren't that great with the dancing. I mean they held their own with the little choreography they did, but NSYNC had them beat when it came to boy band choreography.

I think AJ may have been too in his head overthinking the choreography instead of trusting himself that he knows it and allowing himself to let go. What he did during the dance-off was great, he looked comfortable and confident and was having fun.

However, I do think the judges were being unfair to him. They are being noticeably more critical on some dancers over others. It's clear who they are bias towards and who their favorites are.

Aw, I’ll miss AJ.

And WHY was Gleb there? Trying to save his reputation after his wife is divorcing him for cheating?

That is exactly my thought! I was wondering if there was going to be an interview with him, where he stated Chrishelle was just a platonic friend. Who knows. We may see them dating, or it might just be a big fight between Gleb and Elena and they will get back together.

If you practice enough it becomes muscle memory. That's where boy band members have the ability. I don't think BSB (or any pop act really) has changed up their dance routines in years. Maybe Gaga but I haven't been to one of her concerts in a long time.

I truly don't think any of them are getting the practice needed this season. It's never been confirmed what the COVID protocols are but studio time has to be really limited. TPTB would have been further off waiting until the winter, although I know all the networks were desperate to fill up airtime until other primetime shows came back.

It's four hours rehearsal time a day they are allowed. In a normal season it would be almost double that.

Johnny did great tonight. They threw in some fun moves I haven't seen before. Glad they kept him over AJ, but no doubt he'll be going next week. It doesn't appear anyone is voting for him.

Meanwhile Skai and Nelly are still there.

Based on the hair, I'd say Jennifer Lopez, except Tyra was trying (and failing) to personify her in the opening get-up.  That dress wasn't even CLOSE to the famous JLo one except they were both green prints.  Maybe Ariana Grande?  I don't recall if they gave Carrie Ann an icon or not.  Guess I'm not paying that close attention either!

So even if they max out at 28 hours a week, that's still not enough time to learn technique, learn a choreography, and practice it. Let alone learn two dances.

She’s the celebrity wannabe who wants to be an A-lister so bad. I think her desperation shows and she’s the one person left who can’t really perform.

I would be okay with any of these folks in the final though. I think Johnny for sure will go next week.

That's four hours of studio time per day, correct? What's to stop them from practicing outside studio time, like I presume all previous seasons do? If they are doing this season to the point where Kaitlyn and Artem can go to the judges desk to semi-hug Carrie-Ann, surely each couple can rehearse at an apartment or something.

It's not that no one is voting for Johnny. Ultimately all of the couples left are very likeable and/or have big fanbases. Plus around this time of the season people (like myself) stop splitting votes and give them all to one couple to keep them safe. I don't think Johnny is out of it yet, there's no reason to think that he isn't the next Ally Brooke and if he falls into the bottom again next week then the judges will just save him again. If he keeps getting perfect scores they can't really save anyone else.

They aren't allowed to see each other outside of the rehearsal studios and the TV studios. Don't ask me why, but those are the rules. As for Kaitlyn Artem and CAI, I bet they got a serious telling off from the executive producers after the show.

For some reason, her dress rang a familiar bell for me but I don’t believe she was dressed as an icon.  Bruno was dressed as George Michael.

I “missed” (FF’d) the intro and thought Tyra was trying to be Beyoncé.

I'm worried for Justina because I thought she was weak on a generally strong night, and she's my favorite. She looked beautiful, but the leather pants left her weak leg action totally exposed in her rumba.

Skai, by contrast, benefited from the long paso skirt. Her legs continue to be a mystery to me, but they weren't improved at all. However, the skirt kept them hidden for a lot of the dance. Her facial expressions and general intensity were great, too. This was her strongest dance, but I still hope she's next voted off. I just don't enjoy watching her.

Nelly is probably the weakest dancer, but he's so much fun. I feel happy watching him.

I was skeptical about Amy Winehouse and quickstep, but I loved it. One of Johnny's strongest dances. I thought his jive was strong, too, although I thought I caught some posture issues with his bum sticking out too much.

Nev is one of my general favorites, but his jive was a little too much for me. I can't put into words exactly what it was, but I felt exhausted by the end instead of happy.

Kaitlyn's AT was lovely. Everything about it worked.

I think doing this show would be be difficult for anyone, but it must be insanely hard for someone who recently got sober. I’m sure he is proud to get as far as he did.

Justina's rumba was definitely not her best performance (and I put a good portion of that on the lackluster choreography) but she still got points from me because Crazy for You Madonna was one of my favorite Madonnas (which why I was cringing at the cover which was admittedly not as horrible as some of the others we've heard this season).

Nelly's jazz was okay. I've already mentioned how much I HATE when the pros put ballroom sections into these jazz routines but that goes double for someone like Nelly who clearly is way more comfortable when he's just allowed to groove. He's the worst ballroom dancer left of the celebs so this was the week to let him shine unburdened by the constraints of ballroom and footwork, but she FAILED miserably at that. He still looked awkward. She should have started out their rehearsal by just letting him dance around to the song and then tried to incorporate as much of that into the choreography as possible by matching him. Instead she gave him these trite hip hop lite moves straight out a suburban dance studio.

Aj's Viennese waltz was too frantic and flaily at the beginning which I put on Cheryl's choreography. Add to that listening to the band murder this song and I was counting the seconds until the routine was over.

My favorite thing about Kaitlyn's Argentine tango was the giant crystal thing she was in at the beginning. I know I said this last week but for someone with as much ballet training as she says she has, Kaitlyn is shockingly average at dancing. I can't believe how often her feet aren't pointed, her elbows are bent, and her epaulement is not open. She does have some moments though. Her pose at the end had nice lines.

Johnny's quickstep was better than I expected. Footwork has not been his strong suit so I wasn't expecting quickstep to be a good fit for him, but I was pleasantly surprised by how clean his footwork is.

Skai's paso was as awkward as I've come to expect from her. Her movement quality is just so immature and that hasn't changed. In general, her movements are very weak and loosey goosey so I appreciated that there were a few moments where she was making a concerted effort at very strong movements, but unfortunately I needed that for the entire routine, not just two or three moments throughout the whole dance. But A+ for choose If era Janet Jackson. That video is still one of my all time favorites!

Nev's jive was pretty good. Jive is one of those dances that celebs have problems doing because they don't have the stamina, the bounce, and the precision in the flicks but he was better than a lot of jives we've seen. His arms were still awkward at points and his feet got stompy in places but overall, not bad.

They should have just done split screens for all of the dance offs. I don't need to see the whole set. I just need to see both couples dancing so I can decide who did better.

Kaitlyn had a few moments that I thought were good but overall she seemed to tentative. I preferred Justina's cha cha.

Ugh, I wish they hadn't paired Skai and Nelly against each other. They're the two weakest celebs left so I wish they'd been dancing against other pairs so that they could have both been in the bottom. More of the same from both of them. Skai was awkward and gangly. Nelly was clearly more relaxed in the moments when he could just do this thing, but the rest was his usual shuffly footed self.

Johnny and AJ were both surprisingly better in the jive dance off than I'd expected. I chose Johnny as the winner because he was cleaner.

Ugh, Johnny and AJ are not the two worst dancers left so it was so annoying to see them both in the bottom two.

Ooh kaitlyn’s AT was my fav dance of hers. She just dances so carefully, so deliberately. It worked well in AT, but in the cha cha dance-off, it was not fun to watch. My eyes were on Justina. She was adorable. Her enthusiasm & performance make me smile.

I rarely have favorites. I just like to watch good dancing. This season is...fine. I miss having a fantastic ringer (Nicole, Meryl, Alfonso, Laurie, Jordan, etc). But there are many different factors this year in 2020. Ultimately, it’s entertainment, and I’m entertained (in a good and sometimes slightly irritated way).

Hope nelly doesn’t take it, although he’s now improved and fun to watch. Nev is fine. I really dislike Jenna. I find she choreographs so much for HER to stand out rather than her partners. Justina is adorable. Kaitlyn is a pretty dancer. Skai is a gorgeous robot, and Johnny is finally finding his footing 😉. This is a (semi) fun semi-finale. I have no favorites, so I won’t vote.

I'm really curious about the logic behind this. If they're already dancing together face to face, it doesn't really matter how many hours they rehearse per week (as far as COVID concerns go).

There is a big difference though. Before shooting a music video or going on tour, boy bands practiced those dances for weeks to perfect them. Then they went on tour and performed the same dances night after night for months. There are routines I learned in high school that I could STILL do today because I rehearsed and performed them so many times and it's been years since I've done them!

In contrast, the celebs are only getting a few hours a week to learn a new dance style as well as learn and memorize two routines (one of their own plus the dance off) and then polish them. There are definitely some people who learn choreography quickly but most people need a good chunk of time to really memorize all the steps and then perform them well.

To put it another way, I'm sure there are places that you have memorized directions to so well that you know the route like the back of your hand, but the first 10-20 times you probably couldn't remember exactly which street where you have to turn and how far to go before the next turn. Practice really does make perfect and the celebs this season aren't getting enough time to get all that practice.

I would like Justina to win but I did want Johnny to be in the finals.  The first time that Johnny was in the bottom, he wore that fringey outfit.  Last night, he was dressed like Amy Winehouse.  Don't think either costume appeals to the older conservative demo of this show.  I thought he and Britt did well with the quickstep.  There were some parts where they could have been closer but this was a fast paced quickstep with the required elements and he kept up well.

It's too bad that Johnny and A.J. were at the bottom but I'm glad the judges chose Johnny.  A.J.'s VW was rough.  He missed connections and steps.  It also looked like he was thinking too much.  However, I thought Johnny's and A.J's dance-off was the closest out of all three contests.  I think I liked A.J. a little more because of his energy even though Johnny was cleaner.  But really, it could have gone either way.

Kaitlyn's AT was the best that I've seen from her.  Some of the lifts were really pretty and created beautiful pictures.  After complaining last week about her lines and extensions, I thought she was better this week.  Still not good enough to be a professional ballerina though.  Then she went back to her usual tentative self in the cha cha relay and her lines/extensions went out the window.  It was really noticeable when she went up against Justina.  The latter has so much fire and energy when she does the fast Latin dances.  Justina's rumba was not my favorite out of hers though.  It's not her worst dance.  I think her Charleston/Mary Poppins one is but I'm glad that she didn't end up at the bottom.

At this point, I think Nelly is going to the finals even though I think he should have left weeks ago.  With that said, I think this was his best week.  He looked more comfortable in his dances.  The jazz was more like hip hop light.  He still looked awkward and stumbled a bit but there were parts that he looked good.  They were probably the parts that he helped choreograph.  In the salsa relay, he had more energy than I've ever seen him have before.  This is good because Skai is like an energizer bunny.  She still dances like a teen but she has improved.  Her face doesn't have the deer in the headlights look anymore.  Her legs are still not great but also not Bambi like either.  I did like the spin on the floor with sudden stop in her paso.  I like that she didn't give up even after she had some rough dances in the past.

Nev's jive was decent.  I would have liked sharper kicks and flicks.  He and Jenna are not my favorite but they do deserve to be in the finals.  Still think he should be more honest with his training.

LOL, I admit FF'ing through the intros and when I saw Derek wearing eyeliner, I just assumed he was being his usual try-hard self. Then I noticed Bruno's extra colorful attire and made the connection that they were in costumes.

However, rather than resembling Bowie, Derek just ended up looking like a ventriloquist's dummy. Like, unsettlingly so.

Does Skai really have a big fanbase? I just find her so uncomfortable to watch with her giant, frightened eyes spinning around Alan like he's pulling her on strings. She has those teenage Bambi legs that never seem to bend and absolutely no facial expression except for abject terror while she dances. It's really hard to find it fun to watch someone dance when they don't look like they're having any fun at all.

Considering that they made her intro video all about the BLM movement, I'm guessing she isn't really pulling in that many votes and they're trying to encourage people who support that cause to support Skai by proxy.

I wasn't too upset to see AJ go, but I wouldn't have minded if he'd stayed either. I'm pretty okay with the way the season has shaken out, but I'm hoping the final 3 are Nev, Johnny and Justina. Kaitlyn is good and I like Artem, so she's my backup if those 3 don't make it. I like watching Nelly dance when he relaxes and gets into it, but outside of those moments, he does a lot of walking around while his partner whirls furiously around him to hide it.

Quote

And yep, Tyra mangled “cumulative”, results NOW right after this, Nev’s immunity.  I literally said “WHAT??” Out loud to no one but myself.  She has the oddest way of speaking and dramatizing every single damn thing.  Loathe her as a host.  She has not grown on me one bit.

ETA: I've been fairly neutral on Tyra so far, but she's trying my patience at this point. I don't know if she comes up with her own questions or if some writer is having fun at her expense, but she has had some seriously awkward moments with her interviewing.

A notable gaffe from this show was telling Nev she'd "like to see him on Broadway. Especially when it reopens!!!" Um...what exactly would he have been doing there while it was still closed, Tyra?

And yeah, I realize that was her attempt at correcting herself, but that's my point, she is just not quick enough on her feet to be doing live TV. Especially compared to Tom Bergeron who may have been one of the quickest-witted live hosts ever, he could smooth over any awkward moment.

I love Janet's "If" and hated seeing Skai's feeble attempts at staccato movements. She can feign intensity in her face but it's as if her limbs are too weak to actually be intense. It doesn't matter if anyone is voting for her because the ABC Disney producers certainly are.

Very glad Nelly was safe. Would be happy if he or Justina won. The catfish guy is a total nobody dance ringer and I've never heard of Kaitlyn but she said she once aspired to be a professional dancer as well. That is fine but they have no charisma that makes me care or be excited for them.

I am not rooting for Johnny but he's a dear and I know it would probably mean the most to him if he won. He looked like he was going to fall apart at the prospect of elimination. He's improved a lot and he should always wear a costume that covers his butt and tendency to stick it out, lol.

Johnny’s posture bugs me. He’s really fluid but never really seems upright. I wish they had him dance with another man although probably not a winner with the show demographic.

I remember Charlie White (when he was on the show) talking about how in skating all your strength comes from the rigidity in the hip. I wonder if the postural differences relate to that.

I really disliked Kaitlyn’s cha cha. It was bloodless. Just so slow and robotic.

Justina is my pick to win. I adore her. She has a grace and joy that one simply cannot teach which is why every dance of hers is mesmerizing even if it’s not technically perfect. Also, still rooting for Nelly if only because his growth has been awesome to witness. Love Britt and Johnny though I worry they don’t have the fan base to push them to the top.

I am not going to miss AJ and Cheryl. I felt nothing while watching them dance, tbh. I’m a long time BSB fan and Cheryl has always been one of my favorite pros, but I just found them to be a little forgettable.

Skai’s floor spin was stunning.

Tyra's outfit - WTF????? Oh how I miss Tom and his understated classic suits!!!! And they way that she speaks - like it's the most SERIOUS. THING. IN. THE. WORLD. Get over yourself lady.....

That was such a disappointing end. I cannot believe neither Skai nor Nelly were in the bottom! Boo!!!!!!

I thought Kaitlyn and Johnny both deserved the perfect scores. They had the best dances. I'm torn - I like that this group is pretty evenly matched (with the exception Nelly) and all pretty likeable, but they are just so mediocre!

Skai is decent, but she looks like a newborn colt and she just cannot generate any power or gravitas from her spindly arms and legs. She is darling, but not very good. I liked her spin though.

I guess I am rooting for Kaitlyn mostly for Artem, and Justina and Sasha. I also like Johnny, but there is no way he's winning, and Nev would be such a boring winner, plus I loathe Jenna.

I can not believe that Skai is still there. She reminds of a Bambi or close.  Stilts?  She did do better this week but still just to out of place. But she does show that she should be there no matter how awkward she does or says.  Glad Johhny made it. Not sure how AJ went and Skia stayed but, hey, that's how it goes when disney is involved.

Completely crappy that AJ went out.  He deserved to outlast Nelly and Skai.  It's obvious that this show has already determined that Kaitlyn is going to win.  That was clear from the beginning and it's playing out just as they wanted.  I'm sure Kaitlyn, Skai and Nev will be final three.

Very sad that AJ is out. I was figured he would get the dances more suited to his personality/ability later (except for that samba), like jazz and paso doble (I think I spelled that wrong) and contemporary. I think if he had those, he might have made it to the semi-finals.

Kaitlin is just too robotic for me - too pageanty. Since AJ is out, I'm rooting for Justina and/or Johnny.  I follow figure skating and he's always a little weird there. It was even weird when he did the challenge dance and still had his Amy Winehouse bouffont on. But at least he's interesting.

Again, Maks puts the blame on Britt when it comes to Johnny's lousy foxtrot. He really needed a better teacher and I think all the others are better, from what I've seen.

And echoing the previous poster, Johnny's wardrobe choices really annoy me. I don't 'think' it's that I mind weirdness - I loved Bowie, love Eddie Izzard, KISS or the weirdest rockers never bothered me... He just picks such ugly ugly outfits. Ludicrous, silly, like a kid acting out to get Mommy upset? I can't figure it out, but I don't think he's pulling it off as a fashion icon - is that what he thinks he is?

And I loved him as a skater - and I think he's very intelligent and generally kind and constructive as a commentator - but man, he often looks like a clown imo. And to what end? To shock us? I just don't get it.

I think that's why he's not connecting with the viewers.  I agree with you that I think he purposely chooses ridiculous outfits just to get a shock value.  He seems like one of those people who would purposely try to get mentioned in "Go Fug Yourself" and consider it an honour.  And I do remember thinking that the commentary that he and Tara gave about the skaters was very helpful to viewers, but their weirdness and their vibe was sometimes off putting.  Like they were both in on the inside joke at the expense of everyone else.  He should be doing a lot better in this competition than he is, but the presentation is dragging him down.

Okay, to start off - what week is it???  They were talking initially about the quarter-finals and then they were talking semi-finals.  Right now we've still got Johnny, Justina, Kaitelyn, Skai, Nelly, and Nev left.  That seems like a lot to be going into the semi-finals unless they're doing a double elimination this week?

I was so surprised to see AJ and Johnny in the bottom 2.  Should have been Nelly and Skai, I thought.  Nelly is likeable, but he's easily the worst dancer left.  He can be fun to watch when he's relaxed, but I want more than that at this stage of the game.  Skai's spin-stop was spectacular, but as others have mentioned, she's all arms and legs, very gangly, and she always looks a bit scared.  It seems like she should be near the end of the road.  Not a fan of Nev.  He's dancing generally seems good, but I don't find him particularly exciting.  But I'm guessing he's a lock for the finals.  I'm not a real fan of Kaitlyn, but I do love Artem.  And I did think her AT was really beautiful, but her Cha Cha was uninspired.  I do always enjoy Justina - she's got some skills, and she's always just so much fun to watch.

I rarely get my wish, but my final four preference would be Johnny, Justina, Kaitelyn and Nev.  With the finish being in the order I listed them but okay with any of the first 3 winning.  Just not a fan of Nev.

I think people just don't like him.  A lot of people just remember the weirdness of the Olympics and the swan and then later when he was broadcasting with Tara Lipinski and more oddness.  I think the suggestion is that he isn't getting votes because he is gay... but I disagree that's the reason.  Adam Rippon and Nyle DiMarco both won and they are gay.

Johnny is over the top gay. Maybe he is just too much for the demographic of this show. Personally, I enjoy him, even as over the top as he is.

Skai reminds me of those pageant girls, like Honey Boo Boo. A little girl all dolled up. Kinda creeps me out.

Mine did too!!  Only the last 5 minutes or so.  Ugh!

I felt like Cheryl seemed so “over it” tonight from what they showed of their rehearsals.  It was a weird vibe from her.

I’m glad Nelly is still in.

Surprised to see Gleb upstairs.  Definitely for image control.

AJ was so lost in his first dance.

I could watch Kaitlyn and Nev dance all night.  They both mesmerize me.  Kaitlyn’s first dance was gorgeous, including the cool colors and shadowing on them.

I really love Derek as a judge.  So articulate, positive, constructive in his critiques.

Derek Is A Judge On World OF Dance ! That Is On NBC ! The Other Judges On World OF Dance Is NEYO AND Jennifer Lopez ! I Think Jennifer Lopez Is Also A Producer ! NEYO Is On The Left Side Of The TV Screen And Derek Is On The Right Side OF The Screen And Jennifer Lopez Is In The Middle OF The Screen ! These Are Dancers Around The World And There Are Children And The Higher Ranked Dancers, But There Are FOUR Groups OF Dancers On World OF Dance !

Well that ending was interesting. I really like Nelly but I’m starting to worry we gotta Bobby Bones situation brewing. Am I still bitter? Just a bit! Lol

i thought the Artem Kaitlyn dance was smoking. WhoooWheeee but then again I find most everything Artem does smoking.

I was really entertained though by shirtless nelly in the dance off. He made me giggle. but I still think the bottom two should have been him and Skai no question.

NO, Nobody Is As Bad As Bobby Bones And He Is Involved With An ABC TV Show Which is American Idol ! I Don't Know What Master P Did Because I Wasn't Watching Dancing With The Stars Back Then ! How Ever, Nellie DID Dance And He Had ONE Good Fox Trot ! Bobby Bones Did Not Do Much OF Any Thing And That Free Style WAS THE Most Ridiculous Thing I Ever Saw ! Bobby Bones Took A Few Steps And Then He Jumped Up And Down ! ! That Is NOT Dancing Much Less Ball Room Dancing ! OH That's Right  ! You Can Do What Ever You Want In A Free Style, But YOU STILL Have To DANCE ! Sean Spicer Or Bristol Palin Was Probably The Next OR In The FOUR Worst Dancers OF All Time Which I Think Would Be Bobby Bones, And What Ever Order, Bristol Palin,Sean Spicer And Master P.
