In Texas, yes ma’am is still a term of respect and definitely not old fashioned. I use it myself, as do my children, their friends, etc. I don’t see that changing ever.

I remember when I moved down south to North Carolina. All the students I taught, always answered everything with "yes, ma'am", and "no ma'am". Also heard it when living in Virginia and Tennessee. Not as much here in Maryland where I grew up and live now, although my parents did teach me to respond that way to my elders. I do think it shows good manners and I hope it doesn't die out. JMO.

During the "Making the Team" era, these are the women whom we know for sure are black or mixed with one black parent:

2005: 7 (Jen, Monica, Nicole, Carmen, Shenythia, Shatera, Jasmin)
2006: 4 (Deryn, Jen, Nicole, Carmen)
2007: 7 (Deryn, Carmen, Tia, Ryan, Dara, Ally, Nicole)
2008: 6 (Ally, Nicole, Ryan, Deryn, Dara, Tia)
2009: 6 (Nicole, Ally, Tia, Mia, Jackie Bob,
2010: 5 (Mia, Ally, Tia, Sasha, Jackie Bob)
2011: 4 (Jackie Bob, Sasha, Ally, Mia)
2012: 5 (Jackie Bob, Mia, Jacie, Jenna, Jasmine)
2013: 4 (Jackie Bob, Jasmine, Jacie, Jenna)
2014: 3 (Jacie, Jasmine, Jenna)
2015: 3 (Jacie, Jenna, Robin)
2016: 4 (Khalyn, Cersten, Jenna, Robin)
2017: 5 (Keyra, Khalyn, Cersten, Robin, Jenna - at this point, this is the highest number in 5 years)
2018: 3 (Ashlee, Briana, Khalyn)
2019: 4 (Ashlee, Briana, Kat, Chandi)
2020: I'd rather wait until the squad is 'announced', but I can do this one if anyone wants me to.

The average is 4.6 black women per year - round that up it's 5 or 13.8% of the standard 36 member squad.

2020: 7 (Ashlee, New Briana, Kat, Chandi, Jada, Sydney, Darian, Armani)

That's a pretty representative sample considering 13.4% of the US population is African American and 2.8% are mixed race according to the US Census Bureau.  I wonder what the Hispanic breakdown is.  18.5% of the US is Hispanic, and I'd imagine that is higher in Texas.  My poor memory would guess DCC has a much smaller percentage.

Thanks for putting this together! Isn’t Carissa biracial, as well? Perhaps she is one “whom the we know for sure” phrase is referring to.

Also, on the hair issue, if you look at Sintia (Sinita?) from season 7, she was never featured, but she is pictured in the background of multiple scenes. She starts out with natural curls. After makeovers, you see her in the background while they are dancing at Gilley’s, and her hair is straight.... I had thought that Kelli wouldn’t require a girl who came in with curls to go straight, but apparently she did. It’s a bad look.

I’m glad that they finally found someone who is experienced in working with textured hair.

I am not sure how to upload photos from IG-second photo in the latest post- but I will never understand what people see in Caroline from a looks performance. Phenomenal dancer. But If I saw her walking in the mall, I wouldn’t look twice. I’m not sure it gets more basic than her.

I think this is one of her better pictures.  Her hair color looks good - it's too dark in some photos.

I wonder how loose the masks are since there have been quiet a few photos of girls with their noses out.

FYI if it doesn't cover both mouth and nose it ain't doing anything.

That last photo is awful why would you put that up/who would by it?

Just found out that former DCC Jordan Daigle, 2012-2014, is married to new Stanley Cup Winner-Tampa Bay Lightning player, Blake Coleman.  Blake is a Plano, Texas native.  Great article from the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram.  Read all the way to the end for a great picture in Tampa.

Tess and Daphne? I didn't know the DCC gave lessons in public drunkenness.

So VK gets the “bonus” videos treatment, and for “power.”  Too bad it’s not for control of her dance.  Do the girls get to volunteer for these?  Or are they just chosen?  How do the other girls feel about VKs VIP treatment?  Can’t believe some stunning dancers that are also gorgeous, got over looked!  I’d love to see a class by Gina!

If the team is made up of world class dancers, why is it that only certain ones get featured?  Shouldn't they all know what they are doing if they made the squad?

All of this should really be on a rotation, as should DCC in Motion - part of being a DCC.  Like we have said many a time on this forum, if all the TPTB do is feature VK, no one will know who else is on the squad.

And does anyone remember Kristin doing a DCC in Motion video?

It doesn't (necessarily) matter what the rules are. Rules are rules - and you agree to the list of rules when you're hired. If you break them, you're (usually) let go. Kelli's issue is that the rules are only applied when Kelli wants them to be. Would VK have received a one game suspension like Tess, Caroline, Kat and Daphne in the same situation? Probably not.

(Not a dig at VK for once, just an example. 🙂😅 )

Sunday, November 15.

Wait, why did those four get suspended?

It’s probably covered on here...did Jalyn get show group back? If she didn’t, I’d see the writing on the wall and retire after this year if I were her.

No she didn't 😠 Someone posted on here that they allegedly gave her false hope that she would get her spot back all for the show, and she didn't in the end.

Those girls had to sit out the first game because they went to a busy lake on a holiday (Labor Day?) and were very drunk. A poster on here said they met them and they were nice, but obviously super drunk. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but Covid and all, and representing DCC.

She never did one. I have notes on every one of them - mainly to keep them in order because TPTB can't - and she was never featured.

  1. Tess / Taylor P. / VK / Madeline
  2. Lexie / Ashlee / Kelcey
  3. Maddie
  4. Meredith / Rachel W. / Caroline / Amber
  5. Gina / Bridget / Lisa
  6. VK #1 (red dress)
  7. Brennan / Chandi / Alexis / Savannah / Daphne
  8. Amy
  9. CiCi / Rachel W.
  10. Heather / Molly / Rachel A. / Alanna / Christina
  11. Lily / Taylor J. / Miranda / Brianna / Kelcey
  12. VK (black dress)
  13. Hannah / Erin
  14. Rachel W.
  15. Bridget
  16. Gina / Amanda / Amber

2. Amber not Kelcey

4. Kelcey not Amber

11. Amy is in that one too, it’s Amber again, not Kelcey

17. Amber

I think Cianna, Jalyn and Daphne recorded one too but we’ve not seen that yet!

If you would be fortunate enough to see Caroline walking in the mall you would notice her phenomenal physique. That would make you look twice and you would notice her class. She doesn’t shout out ‘here I am’ but is more of a hidden treasure. After seeing her striking blue eyes would too would be #TeamCaroline!

In Season 14 the Hispanic DCCs were Alanna, Lisa and Kristen. Season before that was just Lacey and Alanna I believe. Doesn’t seem to be much Hispanic representation in DCC. Tbh doesn’t seem to be particularly diverse at all when you compare to other dance teams. Can’t recall there being very many DCCs of Asian background either.
On another note I know Tess is Native American, I don’t know of any other Native American DCCs, does anyone know if there has been any others apart from Tess?

Veronica.  She was part of a big campaign for Nike while she was a DCC, which was one of the reasons Kelli was working so hard with her to lose weight.

She’s one that seems soooo healthy and happy post squad! I thought she was such a beautiful bride this past weekend too. She’s just gorgeous in general.

As for Dallas demographics, 2010 census has 43% Hispanic or Latino of any race, and I imagine that’s only gone up in the last decade.  Dallas is 51% white, 20% black, 17% “other” and 3% Asian (0.5% Native American.) The Asian population feels low to me but if it’s just Dallas proper and not total Dallas county then it makes sense. And these numbers are a decade old. I would be curious to know Collin and Dallas counties as a whole. Tho there are a few counties in the metro? And the stadium isn’t in Dallas or Collin, just The Star.

Still don't believe they gave her false hope. I can picture them saying that she could get showgroup, but that counts for every girl that tries out. Just another moment of trying to out TPTB in a bad daylight over nothing

That said, I hope Jalyn stays for a fourth year as she is a beautiful lady with probably the most gorgeous eyes on the team now Alexis retired
