I'm the first person to jump on the conspiracy band-wagon, but there was video of Christie in the hospital which would have been pretty hard to fake. I will say that if a fall that innocuous was "the worst break" the doctors had ever seen she must be as brittle as chalk. She would have snapped something sooner or later, and needs to see a specialist about osteoporosis.

Yeah, that struck me, too. If that fall caused the worst break the doctor's ever seen...I'm gonna guess the doctor hasn't been practicing very long or her bones are made of glass.

The Sean "standing with Christ" Spicer tweet is so crazy.  Jesus gets used by people all of the time for the wrong reasons, but using Him to win a stupid dance competition sounds like a sin to me - even if only a venal one.  What a ridiculous man.  Truly hope he goes off of the show first.

I'm pulling for James so far (unless he does or says something I don't like lol).  He's a terrific dancer.  I also like Hannah and Kate.  Love Mary but she can only go so far.  All in all, a pretty good first show even though I'm disappointed about Christie (although Sailor seems like a sweetie).

True, I have no idea why Lamar is subjecting himself to being bullied by the judges. He looked really crushed by his scores. I know he had past issues, but damn, they could have used some restraint.

But how motivated is Lamar to compete?  When he was on GMA, he look completely bored and said he wasn't willing to do things out of his comfort zone (i.e., wear flamboyant stage wardrobe).

I can also see Lamar getting eliminated as well. But I'll be very surprised if it isn’t Sean.

Won't the Trump supporters vote for Spicer?  We don't get to vote the contestants off the island.  I'd vote off Lamar first but that's not how it works.

I remember some time back Alexa had some mental health issues and even tried to kill herself? This show would be bad for her, so it's probably to her advantage that she's not on.

Now I remember why Christie Brinkley annoyed me in the 80s. Talk about being an attention wh0re. She needs to sit down and let her daughter have the spotlight.

Christie Brinkley is easy to hate! Right there with ya.

You know what?  I was totally prepared to congenially tolerate Spicer.    I watched his dance solely because my friend who works on the show told me about the pineapple outfit and I was legit curious.  Watching it, I found myself curiously entertained (I think Bruno described it in much the same way).

But holy shit, that tweet.  I'm back to thinking he is a shameless, soulless, sycophantic fame whore.  Poor Lindsay.  At least she got to wear the pineapples.  They were legitimately awesome.

I really enjoyed Mary Wilson (off tempo as it occasionally was), Kate Flannery, and The Beek from the Creek.   Also, what's his name for Good Burger was fun.

All the discussion of Sailor vs. Alexa and one being more recognizable than the other cracks me up because of the 12 "stars," I'd only heard of five of them, and Christie was one. Now two-thirds of the cast I've never heard of before last night. Being an unknown hasn't stopped people winning this show in the past.

Does anyone know why Val's face was blurred out in the Christie-falling video clip? Was it really Val? I can't imagine him missing a chance for his face to be on tv.

It was originally blurred out because video of the fall was released before last nights show and it was supposed to be a surprise who the partners were so the vid was released with Val's face blurred out so as not to give away her partner.  Even though it was already out there and fairly obvious.

Emma looks great with brown hair!   It looks like Lindsay augmented her lips and she is not as cute as before.  I did not even recognize Jenna -- what did she do to her face?  Brandon is putting on weight.  It is odd to see a chunky pro.

Maybe Brandon's weight gain is why they assigned him Mary.  Nice icon but not likely to be in the last 3.  Punishment for the chunky pro who was on the road to winning?

Well it started with Huckabee, a known evangelical, wanting to send a message to "Hollyweird" by voting for Spicer just to drive "Hollyweird" crazy, I guess. Spicer was replying to the Tweet. I don't know if you can say he's blaming the fact that the judges "aren't with him" because he "stands with Christ" or if he is just jumping onto Huckabee's "let's drive Hollyweird crazy" train. Either way he's playing the victim instead of acknowledging what they're being judged on.  And if "Hollyweird" is so offensive he should never have agreed to be on the show in the first place!

Usually when they introduce everyone I count how many make me go "who?" I knew seven names from the list, but that doesn't necessarily mean I know who they are. Lamar is a name I recognize but I wouldn't have been able to tell you why; Karamo I probably wouldn't know except he's been on some stuff recently (The Daily Show and NPR's Ask Me Another, I think).

If you want a demonstration of the hypocrisy of the judges' comments, look no further than their treatment of Karamo versus Ray Lewis. Karamo comes out and does an energetic but fairly sloppy dance, true enough. The judges shit all over him. Len gives him a stink face and says he was disappointed. Nit pick, nit pick, nit pick. Which would be fair enough if they treated all celebs the same.

The very next dancer is Ray. He comes out and does just as poorly if not worse. Do the judges shit all over him? No way. They're all smiles and sunshine with Ray and blow smoke up his ass. True, they give him low scores, but their difference in attitude is astonishing. Or, would be astonishing, except for their proven track record of glad-handling the football players. I guess poor Karamo isn't worthy since he isn't a sports celeb.

I might be less bothered by this admittedly, since I don't care as much as long as the scores are dealt accordingly.  Ray got a lower score than Karamo, but I think for better or worse there is this thing of judges expectations and pre conceived notions and the judges came in with an expectation that Karamo would be good and that Ray probably wouldn't.  Are those fair expectations?  Potentially not and we could explore why they expected Karamo to be good but I interpreted the harsher reaction to Karamo as he didn't live up to the hype and/or not living up to potential.  But it's week one so it's hard to know what full potential is at this point.

I will say I think Karamo/Jenna had the combo of song/dance style that should have had the audience and everyone on their feet as its such a crowd pleaser fun song and so maybe it was partly that his energy didn't fully live up to the song?  That his energy didn't match Jenna's?  Not sure.

I will say I think Jenna spent more time teaching him to do lifts when she should have focused on the basics of the dance instead of having the poor guy stress over dropping her week one and while the lifts were nice, he might have been more in it if he wasn't worrying about all of that.

The version of this tweet currently on on his timeline reads simply "Thank you @GovMikeHuckabee. Really appreciate your support and prayers."  My understanding is that tweets cannot be edited, so I wonder whether he thought better of this commentary and chose to delete and replace it, or whether perhaps the screenshot has been edited.  (Please understand that I am meaning to call no one a liar, and forgive me if I offend.)

Of course, whether this is the real article or not, he's definitely retweeted messages like "Watch liberals cry!  Vote for @seanspicer tonight!" and Huckabee's, regardless of what his reply was.  I wonder where the people are who screamed that liberals and Tom were "making it political" when Sean is just a really sweet guy who wanted to give it a go, regardless of politics, and had just as much right as everyone else to try and master the dances?

I'm not interested in tuning in unless or until he's gone.  I know this isn't the first conservative personality to seek to deploy that base as voters, whether they're watching or not, but he's a new low, and these days more than ever, I'm looking to a show like DWTS to be entertained away from the culture wars and political hellscape.  I say this as someone very tired of factions on both the right and left.  Tom was right.  Good luck to everyone else.

And breaking a wrist at 65 is no joke, I broke mine at 63, it's never going to be right again, it's been 6 years and I still can't really use it for much weight, like a 8 lb baby or a 20 lb toddler.

I was pleasantly surprised, and thought the show was pretty good. I liked that they went back to basics. I'm glad they got rid of the troupe and there was no contemporary/jazz. I hope it stays that way.

There were only three things I could do without:

1) Bobby Bones being an attention whore

2) Christie Brinkley being an attention whore

3) Sean Spicer being an attention whore

Re: Wendy Williams’ accusation about Christie faking her injury - my mom broke her wrist almost the exact same way when she was under 30. She lost her balance and instinctively put her hand down to break her fall and ended up breaking her wrist.

That instinct to try to break your fall is pretty strong. I remember when I took ice skating classes as a little kid, they told us NOT to do that because we would probably break a wrist. They even made us practice putting our arms up in the air while we fell on the ice.

Just because the video of Christie falling doesn’t look dramatic enough for Wendy doesn’t mean it’s all fake. Not every injury or fall is dramatically cinematic.

It is strong.  My friend got that kind of break at 31 tripping on the sidewalk.  Spent the day with her in the ER not certain if the break was bad enough to need surgery.

There was even speculation about the legitimacy of the break among the crew.  But I doubt it.  My understanding is that the switch was super last second, forcing a bunch of changes including her costume.  I would think that was cutting it super close if it was intentional.  I mean, I guess it would make it  more likely DWTS would accept any replacement suggested By Christie.  But I feel like there are other, less dramatic and involved ways to promote your kid.

Sometimes, when I am sleepy and my eyes get squinty, Gleb starts to look like Freddy Mercury, especially in that white jumpsuit he was wearing last night. I think he's kind of hot ...personality aside.

Ugh... Jenna.

When they said Pasha was joining the pros, I got all excited thinking it was Pasha who danced with Anna on SYTYCD ...but no. 😞

If I planned to fake an injury to let someone I know replace me, I certainly wouldn’t wait until three days beforehand. But I’m the considerate kind of faker who would want my friend/family member to have more than three days to prepare so that they would look awesome as my replacement.

I mean, honestly, I think most moms want to see their kids succeed so if Christie had planned a fake injury specifically to put Sailor in her place, she probably would have done it a little sooner. There are professional dancers who would be uncomfortable performing a routine that they learned only a few days earlier.

And realistically, Christie is not the only celeb who injured herself shortly before the first episode. Jewel and Nancy O’Dell both had to drop out of S8 before the first episode. As a last minute replacemenr, Melissa Rycroft had only two days to learn her first dance. Wendy Williams is just being a shit stirrer about this.

Saw the show last night and here are a few things for what it's worth (I know less than zero about dancing!)

Re: Christie's fall - I fell out of bed and broke my hand last year, not a hard fall but it got broken. Plus I once had a serious ankle sprain (the doctor told me it would have been better if I had broken it. I was on crutches for four/five months) when I tripped over a crack on the sidewalk.  So I think she really hurt herself - it doesn't make any sense for her to do something on purpose just to give her daughter the limelight (to be honest, I think Christie would prefer to be in it)

I thought it was pretty decent first episode.  Although, I initially gave Sean Spicer some latitude (he really seemed to be enjoying himself) but after reading that tweet - nuh uh, not any more.  James Van der Beek (sp?) was a pleasant surprise 🙂

And Master P joined the cast of Season 2 when his son, Romeo, injured himself before the first show. (Romeo eventually did the show on Season 12 - the same season Wendy Williams was on. He came in fifth, she was the second one eliminated.)

Daniella and Keo are cast this season as "bumper" dancers (like the troupe used to perform) and to fill in for pros who are either injured or ill.

So I think we have our frontrunner. Damn, Van DerBeek was good (also I've never really thought about his looks one way or another, but he looked really nice in that outfit and hat).

In my head he was still Dawson, so I was pleasantly surprised to see him as a full grown man. I still can't figure out who he looks like.

Was also pleasantly surprised by Hannah B. In addition to being really good for Week 1, she looked like she was having fun.

When they first called out the cast of Bachelor in Paradise, did they completely mess up the camera placement? They later called them out again and showed people who were actually on this season.

It doesn't make sense that Christie Brinkley would have to fake an injury just to have her daughter on the show. Sailor could have been a draw just with the promise of having Christie in the audience, like Demi Moore and Bruce Willis were for Rumer Willis. No need for an elaborate ruse.

Oh, DWTS, I'm glad you're back.

I am not surprised to read that. It was probably much easier for production (overall) to incorporate Sailor into the show as she is practically a doppelgänger for her mom.

Did anyone else notice that Sailor’s face was superimposed onto Christie’s body during the visual package?

I was really hoping that they would pull out amazing stars this season as it had been a year since it was last on.  So, I was watching the relative "non-star" stars (i.e. Hannah from The Bachelorette, Lamar from The Kardashians) as well as more recognizable semi-stars such as Kate Flannery (who I saw in Jane Lynch's Christmas Tour last year) when it was announced that Christie Brinkley's daughter would dance in her place.  It's one thing, in my opinion, to have "lesser" stars, but to bring on a complete unknown (at least to me) in place of her far more famous mother, I decided that I was over this season before half-way through the first episode.  So much for any meaning to "Dancing with the Stars."  And, I guess, yippee for nepotism?

Who knows, I may be back, but whatever happened to the Stars?

I don’t have a problem with honest Christians professing their faith, but it bugs me when people like athletes, or Spicer, thank God for giving them the win.  God doesn’t take sides, because if he did, Notre Dame would win every national championship, with Touchdown Jesus and all.

I’ve fallen down all my life after having polio at age 2, so I understand breaking bones.  While I’ve never broken a hand, I have broken ankles, feet, kneecaps (including a dislocated kneecap) and other bones.  When I first saw Christie’s fall, I was surprised to see her right wrist and arm in the cast, because after watching the video a few times, it certainly looked like the left hand and wrist took the brunt of the fall.  But looking at how thin she is, and probably not have followed the type of diet for healthy bones, I would bet she has osteoporosis.

I think it will be Lamar but also the fact that there was no voting on week one probably will have an effect.  So like any sympathy bump that Sailor would have probably gotten this week is gone by next week.  Nobody is voting based on their gut reactions to week one.

Kate you would think should have support with how freaking popular The Office is and it's always on somewhere.  It's also become very popular with younger generations, but I do fear she will get lost in the shuffle.

That is why I'm planning to throw her votes next week no matter what.  On no planet should Sean or Lamar outlast her.

Yay, it's finally back(and holy crap, there are a ton of comments already that I won't read until after I post)!

Before I get to the dances, I have to say that I am glad that they seem to be going back to their roots, and having more focus (and the lower scores back) on/for technique, and that we will get to see two dances before someone is eliminated. Curious as to what the elimination twist will be.

Now, on to the dances...

Hannah/Alan-Not bad for the first dance. I don't watch/follow any of The Bachelor/ette shows so I don't really know who she is, other than hearing her name before. Slightly OT, though, Alan's hand needs to move down a little bit(placement during the comments).

Kel/Witney-He seemed a little stiff, missed a grab(or two), and at times there was too much space between them. All that being said, he seems to have potential, and we will see if he improves through the season.

Kate/Pasha-Well, at least she seemed to be having fun. The dance was kind of clunky and awkward.

Lamar/Peta-I think Lindsay would have been a better pro for him-she seems to have a knack for working with the taller celebs. This dance wasn't very good, Carrie Ann's smoking something again <shrug>.

Lauren/Gleb-Wow, is it just me, or is she kind of annoying? I did like the dance, though, I think she did a good job on it.

Sailor/Val-Poor Christie! 😞 For 3 days' practice, Sailor did a decent job. Shut up, Val!

Let me just say, I love Tom!

Karamo/Jenna-That was fun, he was having a good time, but I agree with the judges on this one.

Who thought that rolling chairs would be a good idea for CA and Bruno?! It will be interesting to see if that changes next week! 🙂

Ray/Cheryl-What did I just watch? That was...not good.

Mary/Brandon-Hmm, I guess I didn't see what the judges saw on this one. I wasn't impressed.

Ally/Sasha-The dance was full of energy. I thought she did a decent job.

Sean/Lindsay-Well, it wasn't completely horrible, and good for Lindsay for wanting to form her own opinion on him.

James/Emma-I am currently watching Don't Trust the B**** in Apt. 23, and I have to say that I love his self-depreciating sense of humor. This was hands-down my favorite dance of the night!

I didn't grow up watching Disney channel, so I have little background with any Disney kids. I have liked some of them, especially that one young man early on, I think he came in 3rd. I just can't remember his name and am too lazy to look him up.

Kyle Massey?

It doesn't make sense that Christie Brinkley would have to fake an injury just to have her daughter on the show.

The injury was real, but Christie took full advantage of it. There is already a blind hinting that someone has been trying to get their kid into the limelight for about 5 years and they got a fortuitous break.

Sean was totally pandering to the evangelical base of the Republican Party.  The “stand with Christ” line is one you hear from them not usually from devout Catholics like Spicer.  Just admit you can’t dance Sean
