Wow, three more seasons and a spin-off. That's what you call a successful first season. I never imagined it would be such a hit; I'm delighted. But I'd love if other romance properties were adapted thanks to Bridgerton's popularity. I'm still hoping for a Bridgerton effect.

Same here. I’d love to see a series based on the Bastion Club and Cynster family by Stephanie Laurens. There’s a lot of material to work with there.

I'm waiting & seeing, I still have doubts about the success of future seasons without Regé-Jean Page.

I have no doubt it will succeed because I think now that people are accepting of the formula of a show as historical romance, the actors/characters can be shuffled in and out easily as long as they are hot and have chemistry.

And who's to say there won't be another breakout star?

This is Shondaland.  Past experience with Grey’s Anatomy tells me that she will find hot male lead after hot male lead.  I’m just waiting for nicknames like McSteamy.

Cressida Cowper's hair is full on Hunger Games. I love it. Also, I think they have some random dude tagged as Sir Phillip. I doubt Chris Fulton has changed that much in a year or so.

They're making like two adaptions of Jane Austen's Persuasion right now. I think they're both modern set, though. Sanditon on PBS is getting another seasons, sans Theo James though. That one is similar in that they added sex scenes although I haven't seen the show so I can't say for sure.

I'm afraid ole Jane doesn't count! 😉 We've had Austen adaptations coming out our ears for decades. Austen's novels are not just respectable, they're considered to be classics and they're on school syllabuses, so they're adapted as often as Dickens' novels.

What I'm talking about is all the other books in the biggest genre in publishing. The books that are shelved under Romance, not under Classics. There's nothing respectable about those.

Anything by Tessa Dare or Stacy Reid would be awesome.. hot regency romance is my jam, lol.

Or Grace Burrowes, or Stephanie Laurens or even old school Catherine Coulter regency works.  Though Catherine was big with the iffy and down right not ok stuff in her books.

They just need to get around her habit of

he loved

he craved

he desired

I had to stop reading her books because that was driving me crazy.

At least with a TV show from this genre you just get the visuals. I definitely think that helped the story with Bridgerton and it can do the same for other books that take pages and pages for one love scene. I need to see some visuals of Royce.

I'd love to see the Wallflowers from Lisa Klepas or Eloisa James' Lindlow Castle series.  Really, I'd take anything that's a new story with great costumes and a happy ending.  I love that they didn't drag out the happy ending for years.

Hold on a minute. The love scenes are pages and pages in the book and the sex in the series lasts 20 seconds?

I mean, I'm not advocating for longer sex scenes - I can do without them altogether - but the sex in the show is laughably short.

@janie jones It depends on the author, some keep it more concise and others like Stephanie Laurens go on and on. I think Julia Quinn that wrote the Bridgerton series falls somewhere in the middle. I guess on the TV show they have so much story to fit into each episode that they can’t go as in depth with such things. I’m sure it’s a fine balance for the show writers.

Some casting news:

https://deadline.com/2021/05/bridgerton-rupert-evans-edmund-father-patriarch-season-2-netflix-shondaland-1234765936/

Rupert Evans will be playing the late Edmund Bridgerton.

Please remember, you can discuss the casting in general here but for discussion on how you expect the show to use him/his character based on what you know of the book, please take that specific discussion to the Book/Spoiler thread.

Thank you!

The thing that drove me crazy was how everyone was always holding reins and yanking reins and loosening reins and even letting the woman have the reins (until he takes them back). Once in a while I guess it's an okay (but not awesome) metaphor, but seriously its like every paragraph in every love scene has at least one set of reins. THAT at least wouldn't get onto the hypothetical tv show.

I am extremely excited about this! I don't know anything about the books or character, but I want to see what he can do beyond the American accent of Frank Frink in The Man in the High Castle (in which my father was convinced he was wearing a toupee, weirdly).

He plays Harry the Whitelighter on Charmed. He uses his real accent.

Ah, gotcha. I took the info I quoted to mean that the sex scenes were pages and pages long in THIS book.

To be honest I think the majority of the Emmy nominations are Golden Globes level of silliness. I’m putting it down to shows like Succession or Mrs Maisel not being eligible.

I think it's partly because of how many more nominations there were this year.  And in many ways, I like that because it does offer variety.

I just think Bridgerton is one of those "if this hadn't been wildly successful" types of noms.  But I still went "huh" lol.

‘Bridgerton’: Netflix Shuts Down Season 2 Shoot For Second Time After Another Covid Case

Quote

We hear that Netflix has paused production for an indefinite period of time as the streamer and producers at Shondaland establish a timetable for a safe return amid the Delta variant of coronavirus surging across the UK.

Netflix declined to comment on whether it was a cast or crew member who has contracted the virus, though the indefinite length of the hiatus will lead to speculation that it could be an actor. Either way, the individual is now isolating.

Extended talent panel with Simone Ashley, Jonathan Bailey, Charithra Chandran and Nicola Coughlan

https://youtu.be/EZjo7gIqS7A

It's mostly non-spoilery, just some light info about the Sharma family dynamic after minute 10 or 11.

Simone Ashley is just drop dead gorgeous. I foresee Kate and Anthony burning on the screen. Charithra Chandran Aldo seems like a wonderful choice for Edwina after watching this. She gives off a sweet and very smart vibe. Also, when she goes, Look at how gorgeous these two are together. Truer words.

Marc Pilcher, Emmy-Winning ‘Bridgerton’ Makeup Designer, Dies of COVID-19 at 53

So sad. He was double-vaccinated, too. Everyone still needs to be on their guard.

Wow, the article doesn't say when he got sick, but 3 weeks ago he was at the Creative Arts Emmys, & he isn't wearing a mask in that photo. That's a little (OK, a lot) scary. All those behind the scenes people could be spreading covid through the entertainment industry. Being double vaccinated didn't help, so everybody showing their cards & taking the tests doesn't seem to have helped.
