I have no doubt it will succeed because I think now that people are accepting of the formula of a show as historical romance, the actors/characters can be shuffled in and out easily as long as they are hot and have chemistry. 8 Link to comment

Sanditon on PBS is getting another seasons, sans Theo James though. That one is similar in that they added sex scenes although I haven't seen the show so I can't say for sure. 1 3 Link to comment

I'm afraid ole Jane doesn't count! 😉 We've had Austen adaptations coming out our ears for decades. Austen's novels are not just respectable, they're considered to be classics and they're on school syllabuses, so they're adapted as often as Dickens' novels. What I'm talking about is all the other books in the biggest genre in publishing. The books that are shelved under Romance, not under Classics. There's nothing respectable about those. 6 Link to comment

At least with a TV show from this genre you just get the visuals. I definitely think that helped the story with Bridgerton and it can do the same for other books that take pages and pages for one love scene. I need to see some visuals of Royce. 1 2 Link to comment

The love scenes are pages and pages in the book and the sex in the series lasts 20 seconds? I mean, I'm not advocating for longer sex scenes - I can do without them altogether - but the sex in the show is laughably short. 1 Link to comment
Angeleyes May 28, 2021 Share May 28, 2021 (edited) @janie jones It depends on the author, some keep it more concise and others like Stephanie Laurens go on and on. I think Julia Quinn that wrote the Bridgerton series falls somewhere in the middle. I guess on the TV show they have so much story to fit into each episode that they can’t go as in depth with such things. I’m sure it’s a fine balance for the show writers. The thing that drove me crazy was how everyone was always holding reins and yanking reins and loosening reins and even letting the woman have the reins (until he takes them back). Once in a while I guess it's an okay (but not awesome) metaphor, but seriously its like every paragraph in every love scene has at least one set of reins. THAT at least wouldn't get onto the hypothetical tv show. 5 1 Link to comment

GaT July 18, 2021 Share July 18, 2021 ‘Bridgerton’: Netflix Shuts Down Season 2 Shoot For Second Time After Another Covid Case Quote We hear that Netflix has paused production for an indefinite period of time as the streamer and producers at Shondaland establish a timetable for a safe return amid the Delta variant of coronavirus surging across the UK. Netflix declined to comment on whether it was a cast or crew member who has contracted the virus, though the indefinite length of the hiatus will lead to speculation that it could be an actor. Either way, the individual is now isolating. 2 1 Link to comment

That's a little (OK, a lot) scary. All those behind the scenes people could be spreading covid through the entertainment industry.
