Constantine’s sex dream was hot. So is Des.

I would so love an entire episode of the Legends just shooting the shit as they eat cereal (add the beignets cereal to the list of products Warner Bros could sell to promote this show).

God help me but I’m going to say something positive about Nate: his dating advice to Gary was spot on. Thankfully he agreed to sneak around for info on Mona, which I’m against, so the positivity is gone as quickly as it came and the world makes sense again.

Brandon looks like Poe with that mustache.

Zari describes her, Charlie, and Con as The B-Team but I like to think of the two teams as Awesome and Amazing. There are no lessers in that situation.

I think Zari is a solid team leader if Sara’s in the market for an official second in command or even co-Captain. When she stops being a super cute kitteh of course.

Leave it to this show to make a creepy serial killing doll hilarious. “Wrong doll ya dick!”  Heeeeeee!

Mick vs Ava was was fun. “Clone” “Dick”. I’ll allow it.

Mona’s crush on the...Hawaiian werewolf? was surprisingly sweet.

Oh Con. You fucked up.

This show is on crack and I love it. Ray looks better than he should with the mustache. Sara calling Mick her family and a good guy made me smile. Zari’s a cat?! Possessed Stein puppet?! I love Mona’s Hawaiin monster. Don’t make me ship them. This show’s weird enough.

Possessed Stein puppet was a beautiful surprise. I forgot that thing was on the ship.

That whole last scene with everyone frozen as the time-break Constantine caused... just awesome. I'm so glad we have one more episode before the break because dayum, the stakes are high right now! Brilliantly shot and set-up and this show is incredible! They deal so well in wacky premises and general hijinks, but the also really excel at character building and action. I'm not feeling the Time Bureau stuff as I still haven't warmed up to Mona and don't care about her love life. But everything else was so spot on!

Constantine's lover is hot. But not hot enough to destroy the fabric of reality, John. You should listen to the experience time travelers. They are not perfect but none of F'uped time as much as he just did. Lol

Look how far Zari has come, she used to be the one not listening and trying to mess around with time. Now she's trying to babysit two people that are like her. She wasn't the B team, she was the only one that Sara could trust to watch the two rebels. She's basically the second in command.

I liked Ava and Sara kissing before splitting up to their jobs. However Ava should've known how Sara runs her team. She has a bunch of misfits under her command, she has to let them do minor things to keep them under control. I loved Sara calling Mick her family. That's why I love this show the other ones have teams, the Legends are a family.

I can't believe they kept the Stein puppet that Leo made. I would've thought Mick would've destroyed it. I guess he'll get another chance once they sort out the mess John made.

Next week looks bananas. Zari's a cat, Sara, Ava and Gideon are evil Charlie's Angels, Sara and Ray are puppets with Stein. I can't wait. I'm looking forward more to the Legends Elseworlds over the Arrow one since it looks like are doing an actual Elseworlds where there are multiple different versions of everyone.

John Constantine damning his lover to Hell is pretty classic John Constantine.  The Stein doll returns.  And Ava being a serial killer buff because of course she is.  Mona got wounded by a werewolf.  Does this mean she is now a werewolf?

Well. Looks like we just saw why the Legends aren't in "Elseworlds." Sucks that John and Charlie won't get to take part in a massive crossover (I think they would've liked to have fucked up aliens and/or Nazis), but John just had to fuck with his timeline . . . and now -- at minimum -- Zari is a cat. Are we allowed to talk teasers here? I'm playing it safe here.

Funny thing . . . I thought a Beebo doll would get possessed, because it's friggin' Beebo. And then, I remembered Snart-X's Prof. Stein puppet. WOW. Watching a malevolent spirit possess a substitute for the late resident brainiac? Hey, it's Legends. Why the fuck not?

And Mona has a thing for the Hawaiian cryptid, forming the love triangle from hell with two tertiary characters who are getting close to wearing out their welcomes. I don't know .. . it's like I welcome the wacky, but Mona's sweetness and Gary's . .. Garyness can grate. It would be funny if Mona found out about Hank's nefarious plans.

And Constantine is a wanker, and Charlie is as bad for enabling him. I mean, I get that Charlie would eventually need a fully-formed ability beyond profiling the mythical threats. But she's afraid of dying? And it's not happening right away? Weak. I hope morphing into the Queen was worth Zari getting turned into a cat.

I figured that Sara would have to have a contigency in case she had to leave for one reason or another. Amaya was the obvious choice, but she's back in 1942. The only other original Legends are Ray and Mick . . . but Ray is way too "goody" and probably unable to make the tougher choices. Mick . . . hey, if you need a brawler or a guy to mix with history's dirtbags, he's your man. But then there's the time where he used an mythical tome to have sex with his literary creation. And when Ava call him out on that, she calls her "clone," which is basically her "c-word." So, yeah, Zari is the best option at this moment.

For any other comic geeks: in my head, I thought Neron was pronounced "Neh-Ron." I didn't even think "Nee-Ron." What about you guys??

Please tell me that Ray wearing that silly mustache, and everyone making fun of it, and it halfway falling off, was shade being thrown at the Justice League movie?! Possibly at the strange mustache of the character that Brandon once played? Shaaaaaaaade!

Its the rare show that can go from "man forced to kill the (very sexy) man he loves" to "puppet version of deceased character attacking the team" to "basically The Shape of Water but with a Tropical Werewolf" with such fluidity. Legends of Tomorrow is that show.

This episode is so not what I expected it to be, but I still loved it. I would have liked to see a bit more of New Orleans, but the stuff we got was great, especially the tie in with Marie Laveau* and John having fallen in love with one of her descendants in the future, and the murder doll was just the right kind of creepy.

Its weird seeing Zari being the rules monitor/babysitter with Charlie and Constantine, it shows much much she has grown, and how she has learned how important what they do is, and the consequences if they mess things up. Really, if Sara wanted to take a vacation with Ava, Zari would be a good candidate for substitute captain. They were a fun trio, and I loved getting more of Johns backstory. Yeah, theres the John Constantine we all know and love! Sending his loved ones to Hell, then drinking to forget. And when that doesent work, putting the space time continuem into a blender to bring him back! Yeah, there was a lot going on in that backstory, I hope that they can maybe save his boyfriend. He was super cute, and he and John had crazy chemistry in those flashbacks!

Mona and the werewolf guy? Not what I expected, but weirdly cute, especially when she started to learn his language, which makes things less...weird. A little less weird. Looks like Project Hades is off being shady and experimenting on the prisoners, like a bunch of assholes. I assume Ava has no idea, and will be horrified when she finds out. Damn it Biff! Mona is trying to get her Shape of Water on!

Ava and Mick are obviously not going to get along right away, being opposites in every way possible, but they managed to find a truce by fighting the possessed puppet version of Dr. Stein! Because Legends. I do appreciate that kind of continuity, by the way. Good job, show!

The goodbye kiss between Sara and Ava was really cute. Damn it show, you got me to ship them. Also, I really do love that this show had a m/m kiss, and a w/w kiss on screen in one episode, featuring major characters, and it isnt a big deal or something the show is bragging about to score Woke points.

Now Zari is a cute little kitty cat! Oh, this is gonna be bananas!

*Real life Marie Laveau is super interesting, and would make for a whole movie on her own. At the height of her power, she could conduct Voodoo ceremonies in the biggest Cathedral in New Orleans! She also owned a hair saloon, and practically ran the city from it at various points. Look her up!

Another solid ep. By which I mean it was completely insane in classic Legends style.

Zari was the MVP for me tonight. It was so interesting watching her be the responsible authority figure to the team rebels - how far she's grown from last season! And I totally agree that she is a perfect second in command to Sara. Zari has been such a fantastic character and Tala is such a gem. Even amongst such an overcrowded episode she is a real standout. And also an adorable kitten.

Puppets are creepy even when they're not possessed by serial killers, and I fully support Mick's decision to roast it. And of course the episode ends with the Stein puppet trying to murder everyone, because it's LoT.

I liked the brief glimpse of Mick and Ava overcoming their differences at the end (the real test is if they can do it when there's not a murderous puppet trying to kill them), and I loved that Sara cares enough about both of them to try to help them get along. Also loved Gideon taking credit for the cooking. How much built up resentment must she have to do so much of the work and get so little credit? Poor Gideon, we love you!

I remain unconvinced about Constantine's place on the show and on the ship, but I have to give credit to Matt Ryan for an excellent performance tonight. And on a shallow note, I have to agree with everyone else, Des was hot.

As much as I don't necessarily want to like Mona for taking airtime away from our faves, I do find the actress quite likable. And clearly the character is going to be pretty important as the season proceeds (my spec, not a spoiler) so at least she's not just taking up space for no reason. Still, I always wish for more of the Fab Four (a name I've just now decided to use for Sara, Ray, Mick and Zari).

Beebo help me, I kind of missed Nate. This show never fails to surprise.

I have to give Ava the side eye for thinking the Legends are semi-professional (I forget her exact line). Um, Ava, have you never ever met the Legends before?

Can't wait for next week!

Such an exciting episode!  This show is insane and I love it! If this is what they air, what things are they saying, "No, too far" to? I would love to be a fly on the wall in the writers room.

Wasn't expecting the ending we got but am looking forward to seeing where it goes. It looks like it's going to be an insane mid-season finale.

Constantine, you fudged up time.  You truly are a Legend.

Gary, you were able to hook up with Constantine just by being yourself.  Be yourself around Mona, don't listen to the internet.  Don't abandon what's worked before, and was working with Mona.  I like Nate and Gary as "time bros".  They're a good pairing.  Of course, everybody on this show is a good pairing.

So, even in a hoodie and pajama pants, Maisie Richardson Sellers still looks incredible.  There's nothing she can't pull off.

Ava and Sara got the big damn kiss.  That was incredible.

Love Constantine referring to Ray's awesome pornstache as a "tush-tickler"...

And I definitely felt for both Des and Constantine - sending away your love to spare them an eternity of suffering is devastating for both.

Great plug for Angela Bassett's real-world Emmy nomination for playing Marie Laveau in American Horror Story.

Nice touch with everyone literally up in the air at the end - I'm just glad we don't have to wait months to see the resolution.

Bring on the fall finale!

I was expecting a Beebo, too. I'd completely forgotten about the Stein doll.

For my part, I always thought of the pronunciation of Neron's name as "Near-on."

I'm guessing Mick (or someone) will end up needing to use Brigid's Diary to fix Constantine's timey-wimey muckup.

Oh, Zari!  Any team you're on is automatically upgraded to the A-team!  Honestly though, I actually think part of the reason Sara asked her to go along was because she knew Charlie and Constantine going by themselves could be bad news, and she really is the best person to watch over them since Mick is Mick and as much as I love Ray, he's admittedly a bit of a pushover sometimes.

So, in typical Legends fashion, the creepy killer doll was only just a set-up, and it all ends with the demon possessing Puppet Stein instead.  I loved that the reveal was probably the most baffled Mick ever looked.  They've have seen so many insane things on that show, but that would be what finally breaks his mind.  Kept trying to place the voice, and it turns out that it was apparently Paul Reubens.  Pretty good choice, although it will always be hard to top John Noble as Mollus or whoever voices Beebo.

I had a feeling that it was going to end up being that Constantine banished Desmond for some reason, but Matt Ryan sold it.

Sara trying to get Ava and Mick to play nice was strangely adorable for her.  She just wants everyone to get along!  Trying to remain objective, so I understand why Ava would have some concerns, but I still wanted her to leave Mick alone.  Sure, he might roast a few folks, using magical books to sleep with three-breasted, alien babes, and isn't exactly impolitically correct, but dammit, he gets the job done, and he can be loyal in just the right ways!

Mona's subplot seemed kind of random, but I'm guessing it and the character in general will have a big part to play later on.  I did like Nate trying to stop Gary from his poor attempts at flirting.  Don't ever listen to the internet, Gary!

So, it's now Constantine's turn to screw-up time, and it at the very least as led to everyone being frozen into place and Zari getting turned.... into a cat?!  Oh, Legends of Tomorrow!

I was initially disappointed that the Legends wasn't invited to the big crossover episode, but after tonight, I'm almost glad they did.  Because no matter what Elseworld brings to the table, I doubt it will feature the likes of Possessed Puppet Stein and Kitty Zari!

Very fun episode once again.  The last scene was very well-done and I look forward to the resolution next week.

Stein puppet!  I have to give them credit for pulling that one out of their bag.

1856 New Orleans was a good location and they didn't even stick around that long.  I've read the book Fevre Dream by George RR Martin, which also partially takes place in New Orleans, circa 1857.

Some really funny lines in this episode, like Nate calling a creepy, smiling Gary "catch a predator."

Mick and Ava, yet another fun pairing on this show.

I again had a hard time figuring out the purpose of Mona on this show.

The Arrowverse crossover isn't going to be anywhere near as fun as next weeks Legends episode.

The doll was surprisingly a very small part of the episode. They finally decided to show us John's backstory. Now he and Charlie will learn the lesson of what happens when you mess with time.

This show is reminding me of Stargate, Farscape and Star Trek, fun sci fi shows that will embrace the insanity.

Well, it's official. My dream of having a kitten is still alive and when I get her, she WILL be named Zari.

I missed the entire first half of the episode and got home just in time to watch the second half.

Zari is an absolute scene stealer. I didn't think I'd ever like someone more than Sara Lance and Zari has surpassed her. Tala Ashe is a fantastic actress and I wonder where we've been without her for the first two seasons.

So, I missed some of Constantine's stuff but I tuned in just in time for his tearful confession about Des. I will say Matt Ryan did well in this episode. I thought his backstory fit fairly well. Am I still uncertain about Constantine being a Legend? Of course. But hey, he did the most Legend thing by breaking the cardinal rule about changing history. So I guess he does fit in with the Legends! I did like his scene when he was changing history by breaking Des' heart.

Ok, I know Zari being a kitten as a time change is random, BUT I will love whatever explanation they give us.

Puppet Stein trying to kill the Legends? Hilarious.

I'll admit that I'm still unsure about Mona. She's kind of separated from the main cast right now, even with her subplot with Ava/Nora last episode, so I need to see her interact with the Legends soon (unless she did this episode and I missed it). I'm not feeling her or her romance with Caveman Werewolf Guy. I don't think Mona is needed on this show, in all honesty. However, I do trust this show more than anything else so I'm hoping Mona will be expanded on soon.

Could someone explain exactly what it was that Constantine did to Desmond? There was something about the demon being bound to Desmond, but I didn’t quite understand what all happened there.   Was this a “Buffy sends Angel to hell” situation, or was it more self-serving on Constantine’s part?  I ended up feeling like I missed something.

Link to comment

So to sum up, the soul of a dead serial killer inhabits the puppet of Martin Stein who was made by the Captain Cold from an alternate dimension to help the Legends mourn for Stein after he was killed by Nazis from an alternate dimension.  And then time froze and Zari became a cat because Constantine changed his own personal history to save his boyfriend from a demon and get a shapeshifter her powers back.  Also there was a voodoo priestess and a Hawaiian werewolf monster.

This show is bonkers.  In a good way.

And next week looks even more bonkers.

I know the real world explanation is that the effects cost money, but is there an in-universe for why the team rarely uses their powers?  I'm under the impression that Ray's suit still works, Nate can turn into steel, and Zari has her totem.

Probably it's something like "Don't use powers/abilities that don't belong to the past in ways that will be memorable to people in the past.  Leave no trace or you might alter history.  Though nothing like that has ever really been articulated.  Plus, Mick used his flame gun and Zari used her totem in this episode (meanwhile in the last episode, Ray used his suit and Nate also used his steel power).

Constantine said the demon needs souls and since Dez didn't leave like he asked, he bound his soul to the demon to placate the demon from taking a bunch of people from New Orleans.

Constantine did it deliberately?  But why? Why Desmond rather than, say, Person X off the street? If the demon had bound itself to Desmond as a way to taunt John, I could see that.  But...I guess there’s still something I’m not understanding.

I wonder if there’ll be some mention/discovery of the fact that John isn’t exactly acting on his own by doing this, though.  I got the impression that he’s being driven to do that, not by his own guilt, but by the compulsion that Marie Laveau put on him.

Edited by Starfish35

I actually had to look up on a review about the whole Desmond/demon stuff. Apparently, either Desmond sold his soul to the demon to save John, or the demon Neron attached himself to Desmond (I can't figure out which because of conflicting reviews). So I guess, when John was banishing the demon back to hell, he was also doing the same to Desmond. It seems like John made the choice to send Desmond to hell in order to send the demon Neron with him. The lie was that Neron had sent Desmond to hell when it was really John (all to save people, of course, but he also made shady deals with the demon in the first place).

So....John wasn't wrong in his choice, but his guilt stems from having Desmond in danger of the demon in the first place, all because they met and fell in love.

I'll definitely be rewatching tonight.

The story kept changing. Lol.

I forgot that Dez is related to Marie Laveau (who was played excellently by Angela Basset on American Horror story. It's great that Gideon knows about that show. It's as batshit as this show only not always as good) so he must know some magic. And decided to go to the demon himself to save John.

The fairy godmother said she knew what was coming after Constantine and she preferred standard-issue Hell to facing it. Presumably that means Neron holds a grudge for being banished (and has made its intentions widely known on the supernatural grapevine).

See, the moment Ava introduced Mona to the werewolf (before introducing her to Nora), and his shy reaction to her I knew that there was going to be something between them. Plus the way Mona was encouraging Nora and Ray, she clearly is the type that wouldn't hold back. Especially after Nate seemingly gave her that huge opening that he'd have her back because everyone should have love.  @Lady Calypso Mona interacted with one of the Project Hades guys, Gary, and Nate this episode.
Once the timeline is fixed, either Mona is going to succumb to her wounds or she's going to tell someone about the kidnapping and abuse of the magical creatures. Either ways she's going to be the key to the Legends catching on about Project Hades. Whether she's "needed"? I suppose Nate could have caught on, but there are offscreen reasons why he wouldn't. Character-wise Gary is like Ava in being to by the book to go exploring things during off hours to come across anything. I suppose Nora could be one way it got out, but I imagine Project Hades is only dealing with creatures that can't spill secrets.

I think Mona's been fun and helpful in representing a different type of female character. The show is doing a pretty great job in showing diverse types of brave women.  She's been helpful with fleshing out characters that need it (while at the same time being fleshed out herself). Hopefully, she doesn't die so that Gary can get that treatment too and we can see even more sides of her.

Mark me as another who is a bit more curious about the Legends episode than Etherworlds. From what I can tell, next weeks episode of Legends will have more of a lasting effect than the Etherworlds episodes for the other shows, that may have something to do with it. Although, Legends has been my perfect escapist upbeat break from real life so there's that too.

Speaking of Ray's mustache... oh my god.  I loved it.  It was so bad.

I had a weird moment of disconnect seeing the Prof. Stein puppet as such a profane creature.

I am glad Gamora didn't stay around.  She was fun for what she was in the Tokyo episode, but she is no Beebo.  And frankly there is something about the relationship dynamic with her and Mick that just squicks.  I will say I though Mick made great points in his argument with Ava.

Dude, I totally ship Mona and Beast Man.

Also I loved the freeze frame special FX and holy cow next week look batshit!

Well, in the season premiere the Legends were complaining to Sara about how boring it was getting scouring the timeline for anachronisms, so maybe they've also gotten bored with using their powers to chase fugitives? Totally a reach, I know. As far as I can remember they haven't addressed in-universe why they don't use their powers as much anymore.

Loved this one, definitely going down as a favourite of mine.

The way this show handles Constantine's bisexuality is fantastic and the tragic romance with Desmond was done pretty well. Of course Constantine would screw up big time and of course Zari would get turned into a cat while Charlie regained her shape shifting powers.

Sara trying to get Mick and Ava to get along was amusing enough. I think both of them were pretty harsh with each but at least they worked together against a killer doll. Nice way to bring back the Stein puppet I guess.

Ray's facial fuzz was an abomination tbh. I do like the Nate/Gary dynamic but Mona is clearly going to be a were creature now she's been scratched by her hairy beau.

I'm guessing Neron/Project Hades will be our main antagonists as we get into the second half of the season too, 9/10

I think the kaupe is just a specific, unique evil spirit in Hawaiian folklore, not something that infects people with a curse to turn them into more of the same like werewolves or vampires. Of course that doesn't mean the show won't go that route with Mona.

It is interesting that this season has leaned hard into showing the guy-on-guy aspect of Constantine's sexuality. From my recollection the comics tended to just barely touch on it, so kudos for being more progressive.

According to Zari this was a set moment in time (like Barry's mom being killed) and not to be messed with. Even when the Legends "fix" things, I need to see some fallout. This should be on the level of Flashpoint changes, even when matters are corrected, because that was the reason these shows used to explain Flashpoint changes. Also, pretty Zari turns into a pretty kitty, I couldn't ask for more.

Looking forward to seeing next weeks episode, which reminds me a lot of Angel's Smiletime/Wee lil' puppet man episode.

Thanks for saying that since that creature didn't turn into a human at any time that I saw and were-creatures are human and animals so I was perplexed at speculation Mona would turn into a werewolf. I'm not saying she won't turn into something, just not a werewolf.

I thought Gary was a gay virgin?  In the episode with the unicorn it was established he was a virgin, and they established he was gay and into Constantine.  He asked Constantine if whatever they did with/to each other took him out of the qualifications and Constantine said no.  But then Constantine seemed interested in re-exploring.

Nothing became of that.  Now all of a sudden Gary is head over heels in love with Mona?  I got the line from Nate that Gary is exploring but it just seems so random, and the only purpose of that C plot is to give Gary and Mona something to do.
