Catelynn (and Tyler)

I didn't watch most of this season, but I watched parts of the season finale today and watching how he was w/Catelynn made me like him a little more. You could see he was not happy but he did his best to be supportive, that was sweet.

It's obvious that Tyler holds back his true thoughts/feelings a LOT w/Catelynn, tho. B/c to her face, he was like, "No, I'll never leave you, of course not..."

But then, over lunch w/his sister, he compared Catelynn's behavior to his Dad's, implied she was selfish and even said that maybe he's not the right guy for her. I wonder what Catelynn thought when she saw that clip.

Time to bring back the Evil child photo. Nova has the most unfortunate-looking head next to Jenelle's daughter. It reminds me of those alien heads.

hey, at least it's something realistic - every other source of income he's had is MTV-related or is due to the platform he has to sell/promote things based on his MTV fame.

I'd hardly call tearing down a cabinet and exposing some brick as having the skill for flipping houses. Just ask Matt Baier.  If not for MTV, he wouldn't have the time or the money to tear down cabinets and pay OTHERS to do the real work.

okay, so writing's not her favorite.  we know, Cate.  neither is parenting, showering, or waking up in the morning.  all that you want to do is dye your hair day-glo colors, smoke weed, complain about your anxiety, and run off to Arizona.  That's not a very viable life plan.

Ohhh the jokes write themselves.

First of all, it is TETHER. Yes, we know you are home on a TETHER, plugged into a socket. Second, you are supposed to work, you worthless dipshit.

"What girl doesn't want a guy like that..." Hmm, I can think of many on the PTV boards who wouldn't want you.

"Time to no look back and put my foot on the ground..." Yes, because that ankle bracelet cord keeps your foot grounded.

"My so called wife is out with another guy"...getting her rim shots on.

"I hate cheaters"...We hate perverts like you who touch the butts of little girls.

Ha! Yea, he says he "just works and comes home", like he's some dutiful husband who has no interest in bars or hanging with his bros. Um, no. You are legally BOUND to work and then come straight home, fool!

Tyler is certainly a jack of all trades. A clothing designer and business owner. House flipper - soon to be real estate agent. A writer. A tv show producer. A reality star. Professional speaker for adoption and mental disabilities. Wow! And yet his wife is just a slug ?

Please note the sarcasm as Tyler is not good at ANY of the stuff he’s passionate about.

Too bad Tyler isn't good at getting treatment/sticking to treatment for his bipolar disorder.

If he did, perhaps he be better able to find one "passion" he likes, educate himself about it, stick to it, and make something out of himself (besides Reality TV "star"), with it.

A couple of weeks ago I was on a plane & was reading Amy Schumer's book. I was laughing so hard I started crying, so I closed the book (I always feel weird having a laugh attack that nobody else is privy to)...I feel like if Tyler wrote a book, I would have a similar reaction (albeit for VERY different reasons).

ETA: I guess it's kind of hard to take this seriously. I mean, she might be "at that point", but you only need to leave the state if you've thought of EVERY POSSIBLE WAY to off yourself. Isn't that how that works?

For almost all of us (if not ALL of us) on this forum, if things got so bad with our mental health that we a danger to ourselves or could not function, we would would end up on a 24 hour hold at the hospital and either be released after to go back to normal life with fingers crossed that we'd be able to deal or we'd stay there while we waited for a bed at the closest psych hospital with an opening (or on the psych ward if that hospital had one).  It may or may not be a private hospital, but even if it was a private psych hospital, it wouldn't be the spa or "nice" treatment center that MTV pays for out of state.

Also, if those of us with mortgages, car notes, jobs, or children disappeared from our day to day lives for 90 days, we would likely be out on the street (with no brother with a reality TV funded rental property to let us squat in for free), jobless, have no transportation, and we would have lost custody of our kids to other family members/foster parents after CPS realized we'd left for three months.  Basically, our lives would be RUINED and would stay that way for a looong time.

Yet this girl isn't in the ER waiting for an open bed at the psych hospital. She's planning ahead her vacation to treatment. Even Z-list reality star peripheral characters are getting these crazy perks that divorce their barely-Z-list-adjacent-behinds from actual reality now. I can't. Cue Roxanne. I can't.

This makes me even more pissed than Cate's multiple spa stays and Butch's MTV-funded rehab stay (or Tyler-funded, whatever it was).  At least Cate is the "talent" or "star" (although she does nothing; MTV at least gets money from her story line and has profited off her being on the show) and at least Butch has worked actual jobs and has expressed regret and shame over his addiction (and openly admits to his addiction and mistakes).  Who the F is Amber Baltierra? NO ONE. Seriously, we've seen Brandon & Theresa more on TM/TMOG than we have this girl. I hope MTV sends B&T on a nice vacation if they're sending anyone who has been a part of C&T's story lines to rehabs/spas/etc.  Hell, they should probably send Cate's horse to a horse spa just to be fair. If I was April, you can bet I'd be angling in for my MTV-funded stay somewhere right now.

I had a breakdown in my psychiatrist’s office a couple weeks ago. She recommended inpatient treatment, which I won’t commit to. I compromised with weekly therapy with a cognitive behavior specialist, which I started today.

I’m a childless adult with a very understanding employer, and I make more than any of these fuckwits would make without MTV, but I still can’t just go off to an inpatient facility, let alone for 90 days in another state. What do they do for aftercare? They can’t keep those same therapists.

On Intervention they always sent the addicts halfway across the country for treatment. I got the impression that distance was important but I don’t recall exactly why. I won’t get too worked up about Amber or Butch coming to Texas. Plus, Texas is awesome! *stands on table, performs “Texas, Our Texas” with the Dixie Chicks, Beyoncé, Willie Nelson, Pat Green, Jenna Bush Hager, Matthew McConaughey, Troy Aikman, the ghost of Buddy Holly, and several high school marching bands plus Amanda Shires on fiddle, who all just appeared on a cloud of cotton bolls, throws cans of Lone Star to the crowd, makes hand gesture of my college football team, pounds a Whataburger taquito, and rides a giant armadillo out the door*

Yeah so anyway, going away for treatment may serve a purpose, but I think the point is for you eventually go home and stay there. Catelynn

100000000 times agree with your entire post! April chose a mini van this year instead of a vacation. Which shows me she’s the one with the brains in that entire cluster fuck of clowns!

This cracked me up more than it should have.  Only because I am picturing it like one of those gift cataclogs some employers issue where you accumulate points and get to choose yourself something nice as incentive!  LMAO.  Can you just see it?  Mini van, trip to rehab (aka vacation), boobs, veneers, rent free meth house, electrics bill paid.....what to pick, what to pick?!

Wait, is this guy the father of Amber’s kids? Was he the pervy one with the daughter? I can’t keep up with these tertiary characters.

I (again, damnit, what’s wrong with me?) feel sorry for Tyler. He’s clearly not all together, but off goes another relative probably on his dime. The best thing they could do is move to Arizona. Let Cate play in the desert with her own money, and get the F away from that family.

So I can’t necessarily answer the “why”, and a couple weeks ago I was right along with y’all wondering why they can’t do local (and I do still wonder that) but I recently started a new job, I’m an intake nurse for a partial hospitalization program (php) which basically means that I do the initial assessment for our php program. Php/IOP (what cate should have done) is basically a step down from acute inpatient treatment, in our program once the patients leave the hospital they are put in an apartment and come to our facility during the day and go home to the apts at night. I didn’t know until I started, but almost nobody in our program is from Texas (I live in Houston) I always assumed they were local but there are very few even from the state. From what I have gathered there is some benefit to acclimating them back to the real world slowly and without the previous environment until they are more ready to cope, I’m not sure why texas is the prime spot lol, but apparently it’s more common than I realized.

I was told the same thing at my work place. I am sure that is a valid reason in many of the cases and it makes a lot of sense as to why people need to be removed from their environment.

I found this when doing some research:

Quote

Many individuals seeking rehab travel to a rehab facility away from their home. This is beneficial in some cases because it removes users from their home environment where they abuse drugs or alcohol.

In such a distinctly separate location, those attending rehab are able to fully focus on their addiction issues, free of outside distractions or temptations from work, family, and friends.

If you choose outpatient treatment, you may wish to opt for a facility closer to home so you don't have to travel far each day. If you have family obligations, a nearby rehab facility can alleviate stress as you balance home responsibilities with your recovery treatment.

I had a family member who went out of the country for treatment, and during his second stint he ventured to a facility that was 45 minutes away.

As far as I can see, it doesn't make sense for Cate to travel to a facility far away if the reason is to distance her from her environment. Her environment follows her to her treatment facility. If she were to go to a spa in Australia, what good is it if her entire family and all the hanger-ons follow here there? According to Cate, her mother is to blame for a lot of her trauma and yet, who is there visiting with Cate each time she goes away for rehab? I have mentioned this before and I will point it out again. I do not believe Cate is dealing with depression and anxiety. I think she is using it for manipulative reasons.  For argument's sake, let's just say she is ill. She is going to these five star treatment centers because it is a facility willing to allow MTV cameras on their property. The facility is taking advantage of the cameras for publicity and free advertising. That is unfair to the mental health and well-being of someone who is in dire need of help and who declared she wanted to kill herself.

I'm a psychotherapist specializing in addiction treatment. In the past few years, I have seen a trend toward clients choosing inpatient facilities that are out of town, specifically to Florida (I live on the NE). There are benefits and risks to leaving the area--yes, you are afforded the change to recover away from risky environments, but it's more difficult to involve family in treatment if you're hundreds of miles away. Also, at some point, most people have to return home and sometimes are unprepared for all that comes with it. However, the local rehabs are often revolving doors, with the same clients coming and going, and many triggers are involved with revisiting the same facilities again and again. It becomes part of the cycle. Stats say that it takes the average addict 3-5 goes at treatment before he can experience LT recovery. And really, aside from the family piece, if you're going to do a treatment program, 30-90 days down the block or five states away doesn't really make much different, as far as employment, bills, etc. is concerned.

I would probably say that if someone has the opportunity to leave the area, it's not a bad option, again providing that there is some remote involvement with family members, and that a sensible, safe home plan is worked out. If Amber already knows that she is going away for 90 days, sounds like she was referred for D&A treatment at a long-term facility. There is also an increase in the number of trauma-informed inpatient programs popping up. I guess that's what Cate has been doing.

Yes! This is how I'm going to describe what it's like to be from Texas from now on. I'm just going to substitute high school bands with my college and use my own school's gesture!
