right.   The GOP attacked Hillary with such ferocity.  all of that would have been directed at Bernie, had he been the nominee. When Joy says, "Bernie would have won," she's ignoring that the attacks from the right were never launched against him.

Another thing is that Bernie had a lot of problems with moderate Democrats and people of color who had a hard time coalescing around him.

I do think that Bernie wanted too much things too fast.. All of the things that he was proposing would take generations to implement in a feasible way.

psssst- hey Meghan - if you truly have compassion for those without insurance or poor health insurance then you would have passion for figuring out to get them good insurance like other western countries have.

Don't forget, her tribe winning and  owning libs..  It is why she said she agreed to come to the show, to oppose a left wing crazy radical liberal like Joy.. She is far from that, but, that is how people like Megan see Joy..

RHJunkie that's exactly right about snowbirds and her growing up in  Arizona you'd think she would have it straight.

I heard the expression over 40  years ago when visiting friends in Lake Arrowhead referring to visitors escaping  from hot hot San  Bernadino.   My friend would bitch about their lack of mountain driving skills (slow) and most were retired folks so I thought it had to do with white hair as well as  not permanet residents.

So great to look back on the very sweet Sara.  The movie will better for her wellbeing.

Joy was god smacked about not getting to speak.

They better get someone good to replace Sara. Watching MM take over this show is killing me. I want to keep watching but it's getting hard. MM screams over everone and never shuts up.

Many Snowbirds have second homes in the southern US or drive their RVs and can spend up to 182 days there (limit for favourable tax and health care status), so odds are that old people may need medical care during that half of the year.  Also, voluntary surgery like a facelift is not covered by Canadian Health care, so they will pay for it wherever is most convenient.  My little blue card says that Canadians live longer and have lower infant mortality rates than people in the US, so how can US health care be "the greatest"?

It's official, Meghan is a dumbass. As a Canadian, don't talk about other countries and their systems in place if you haven't bothered to do a shred of research on it. The term snow bird is not exclusive to Canadians. It refers to any person who temporarily migrates from a cold climate area to a warm climate area. It has nothing to do with healthcare, it has everything to do with weather. The definition of it is literally in the term used - inspired by migratory birds which commonly move between cold and warm climates throughout the year. The ignorance is outstanding.

2017, Canada had its largest amount of Canadians go outside of Canada to receive medical treatments...it was a whopping 0.175% of our total population. The main reasons people leave the country for treatment is if they need to get something like an MRI done and they would prefer not to wait weeks to do it and another big reason is that Canada's FDA approval process is far more rigorous compared to other countries and I think it's largely due to the fact our system is government owned, therefore, are more liable and so you don't see close to the amount of experimental treatments that places like the US offer. Is it the best healthcare in the world? I highly doubt it. Does it have its negatives? Absolutely. But I have never lived a day in this world with the worry that getting sick will bankrupt me and that itself improves my quality of life knowing that I never have to choose between medication to make me feel better and paying my bills. And to the subject of how it gets paid, I don't know if it should be done solely through taxes. What every other first world country has is a mixed economy while everything in the US is privatized. The cost of your healthcare is high because you have a government that gives reigns to corporations to profit off of people's illnesses and provides incentives for the pharmaceutical industry to pump out barely successful medication and experimental drugs because they know there will always be people in despair that are willing to take the risk. And they are so filthy rich that for those that bother to muster the money to sue, it's an easy cheque to write for them to get you to go away. Privatizing your entire country may make you the richest country in the world, but it mostly serves to widen the gap between your rich and poor. In a mixed economy, that gap is lessened (again, not just by more appropriate taxation but by not selling out your citizens to greedy corporations).

And for the record Meghan, Canada has a higher life expectancy, lower infant mortality rate which many studies say could be attributed to the fact that we not only do not discriminate against who should receive health care, but quite possibly the health care may be better, resulting in less of a need for people to make repeat trips to the doctor. Just some food for thought.

And why didn’t anyone do the math on Bernie’s numbers? An estimated $33 trillion dollars in a country with a population of over 350M people averages about $90k per person over a 10 year period which is about $9k per person a year. Get some of the private money out of the industry and that number goes down exponentially.

Sara is adorable. Her goodbye was very sweet. She brought a light-heartedness that I think the show really needs.

Very well said. This country should care about their citizens rather than corporations who profit from their misfortune.

Meghan is so glad that women are finally being honest about how tough motherhood can be.

Like this is a new trend?

My kids are close to 30, and whether Meghan knows it or not, mothers have been talking honestly about childbirth, the after -effects, (including not wanting sex)  and how tough motherhood is for at least that long.  Just because MEGHAN hasn't been listening to it, doesn't mean it wasn't happening.

Remember Erma Bombeck?  My mom FLOVED her. She told the truth with humor.   Similar to blatant racism now being videoed,  the Internet has more mothers talking about their lives honestly.

Backformore, I think you summed up Meh'ghan views on everything precisely: "Just because MEHGHAN hasn't been listening to it, doesn't  mean it wasn't happening. "  Her woeful ignorance is embarrassing,  but she thinks that she is telling everyone something new,  just like her idol in the WH.

Excuse me? Meghan actually told Joy, "We're not going to debate that now"? She really got a swelled head when she got re-signed, didn't she? Now she's the "star" of the show (polite way of saying she never shuts up) and the moderator who decides what topics will and won't be discussed?

Also, she says she "got a new perspective" on health care after her father's diagnosis, and says it like it's a shameful secret. "I admitted it on national television!!!"

Well, that's not something to be ashamed of, Meghan. That's what thinking, feeling adults do! Unless people are so insecure about being wrong that they can't or won't open their minds, people get new information, either via facts or life experiences, and they sometimes change their perspectives. That's how life works. Most people change and evolve as they gain knowledge and encounter new things. Congratulations on progressing down the road of life.

They can afford to pay for the 2k it would require for 6 months of coverage for a senior which guarantees no out of pocket expenses and also guarantees coverage up to 5M. That money is affordable to the average snowbird. The idea that Canadians are traveling to anywhere in the US and paying out of pocket just because of healthcare quality is superior is laughable. There is not a single study or report that shows any Canadian healthcare outcome being lesser than the US counterpart. All our outcomes are equal or BETTER than the US.

If it's one thing that Meghan accomplishes is she gives us all fodder for having smart enlightening conversations about things here amongst all of us.  If you told me this morning when I woke up I would be talking about our health care system compared to Canada's I would said are you sure.  LOL.  And yet here we are.

Tomorrow is Anas last day to “wow” the execs if they are going to make a decision about Sara’s replacement by the new season.

I am hoping her new position on the panel will be announced.  The timing is right.  Good bye Sara today and hello Ana tomorrow!

Funny!

Meghan to Sara, you are liquid sunshine.

Joy then grouses about all the sappy stuff and tears.

Sara- Don't piss on my parade!  She is adorable.

I will miss her, I have always loved her presence.  Too bad she is with Strahan who I don't like but I will give it a look see.

Thank you for posting this, @merriebreeze.  I was hoping to see a transcript of her ridiculous drivel today, and they included all of her idiocy in its stunning beauty.  I copied some of it here for those who don't click on links.  It starts with Meghan speaking.  In the first excerpt she says that talking about socialism triggers everyone that she is against it and then she says she is 100% against it!

Quote

I know discussing socialism on the show triggers everyone in the world that I’m against it.  I get people are for it. I’m 100 percent against it. Bernie Sanders says Medicare for all would cost $32.6 trillion over the next 10 years. I believe at a certain point, explain how we’re going to pay for it. If everyone is for it, you have to pay the 70 percent or 80 percent taxes they’re proposing.”

Co-host Joy Behar explained that many countries make health care a right and they have similar tax rates as the United States.

“Small European countries,” McCain said.

“Do you believe health care is a privilege of some sort or is it a guarantee?” Behar asked.

“I believe there’s a reason that people in Canada come to this country to get better health care,” McCain said. The comment sparked a backlash from Canadians on Twitter, who claimed they know of no one who comes to the United States seeking healthcare. McCain argued the quality is better in the U.S. (The article left out her comments that snowbirds are people who go to the US for health care because it is better, which as everyone knows, is just completely false.)

She said that her perspective of healthcare changed after her father got brain cancer.

I think a problem with this is, don’t paint me out to be — it’s very complicated on this show. I’m just trying to talk about the realities of what it’s going to cost. It’s not that my heart doesn’t open. I just admitted on national television that my perspective changed after my father got sick. Don’t say I believe in all these things. It’s making me seem noncompassionate. I’m not.”

She ends up having an argument with herself because no one, including Joy, said anything like that.  Though they should have.

Joy was pissed because she didn't get a chance to respond.  As they went to break Meggie was leaning across the table, continuing the argument with Joy, and Sunny was stuck between them.

Apparently, Meh-gun’s blue cards didn’t tell her that the recent results of a Koch brothers funded research study even showed that healthcare for all would save the government 2 trillion over 10 years.  How’s that for paying for it?

I remember Elizabeth going on a rant about healthcare, children and the costs of insuring them. At one point, she screamed out what about their parents, and Joy responded, they are poor Elizabeth.

I remember when Justin Bieber was a guest on the show (this was when he was really popular) and was also around the time of the ACA debate when Republicans were screeching about socialism. Anyway, Hasselblech asked Bieber, so what do you think about socialized medicine and he shrugged (like what the fuck is she asking me this for) and said "well I'm Canadian so..." You could tell she knew it was a stupid question to ask him.

As for Mehgs and her stupid "Canadians are snowbirds because they come to Arizona for healthcare" comment, that's such bullshit. Snowbirds are called that here because they come for the warm climate during the Winter and go home in the Summer where its cooler. How does she live here, her dad is a Senator and she not know this??? Does she just make things up to fit her narrative?

Know what, never mind. I already know the answer.

I was thinking about MM saying Canadians come to AZ to get better quality healthcare.

Meghan exaggerates. So. I think that it is possible that one person said that to her, that the health care they received  in AZ was better than in Canada. But what does "quality" mean in this context?  If you have back surgery, how can you compare the surgery you had to the surgery you didn't have, and say which is better quality?   Do you get better meds? A nicer hospital room?   If you're leaving your own country to have medical treatment in another country, you can't actually compare the quality of the same procedure, because you're not getting it in both places.

Or is it a rich person's idea that the medical treatment they get in AZ, that they can afford because they're rich, HAS to be better than the treatment that's available in Canada to EVERYONE (even poor people)?

So, what Meghan means is that within this group of snowbirds she knows, America has better PERCEIVED quality of medical care, not actual quality.

The Canadian government, to my knowledge, does not pay for frivolous cosmetic surgery - so in her lane in Az those snowbirds have medical procedures (like face lifts) - that is a perk wintering there. Or CA, FL, SC etc.

I am actually again stunned at her ignorance.

Me too. What's frustrating is then Whoopi comes in and does the whole parental "be quiet everyone" type thing as though Joy is just as guilty as Meghan of carrying on, and then throws to Sara so Joy is therefore unable to even get started on what she was saying. I wanted to hear her! This used to happen in the Barbara days too, where Barbara would act like she was the parent settling a dispute between two children even though it was only Elisabeth who was acting like a pill. A good moderator, like Rosie O was able to watch the conversation and make sure someone who hadn't spoken had their chance.

These harpies don't really care how they look as long as they prevent someone like Joy saying her piece or getting the facts out. I wonder if it ever gets to Joy that she gets characterised as the equivalent to these awful women (just on the other "team"). I guess if it did she wouldn't come back to the show, so she must be pretty good at letting it slide off her back, but it irritates me watching it, so I can't imagine what it'd be like to be treated like that on television.

I have nothing more to add here, except to pile on the MM hate.  I so enjoy everyone else on the show and I fear that my viewing days are numbered.  I simply can not stand her and she's ruining the show.  I'm sure the ABC exec believe that MM is generating conversation with the viewers and they think that's a good thing, but there comes a point where its just too much and that time is now. I'm glad they're off for a month - maybe things will change.

Not to mention that our dollar is weaker than the US dollar. So if someone is traveling to the States frequently and going to the hospitals there for whatever reason, then it's safe to assume that those people have the money to afford what they're doing. Which is fine for them. If they have the money, they can do whatever they want with it. The thing is, the rest of us can still get adequate health care at home.

I don't think anyone will ever bring this up in the table, but someone should suggest that if Meghan doesn't want free healthcare then the country can set up public and private hospitals. Saudi Arabia does this. They have free healthcare there, but there are private hospitals where you can either pay more to go to, or the place you work for provides that option through insurance. That way, everyone can get what they want.

Either way, to argue against free or affordable health care is a callous thing to do. Meghan can say that it's due to taxes, but I feel like if you're pro life you need to be pro affordable health care. (Sunny should bring this up)

Edit: I should still add that I'm fine with her staying. I think once someone like Tara or Ana come in, she'll have someone who will properly challenge her and she won't be able to label them liberals, since they're both Republicans. I'm actually excited to see this happen.
