I suspect the Brady Bunch House visit was sparked by Jana's love of all things HGTV.  

Also I presume those God-awful dresses they put the younger girls in are inspired by the Matilda Jane clothing Joanna Gaines puts on her daughters.   

But it's the Duggars, so they get knockoffs which are even worse than the real deal.  

I must confess, I never understood why Joanna Gaines liked those fussy outfits for her girls. They are the total opposite of her decorating style and the clothing she wears.

This sent me down a rabbit hole on the Matilda Jane website. OMG, when is this awful fashion of mixing and matching patterns, stripes, and old lady curtains with colors that clash going to end? I feel like it started with Lularoe and other companies decided if that's what middle America wants then they'll give it to them.

Thank you!  Now I know where the hideous hand-me-downs my granddaughter received began.  Thankfully she usually won't wear them.  

Maybe Joanna Gaines' daughters like them or seeing them on her kids is why Jana (probably) buys them for the younger girls?  They do look quite Duggarish so I can see the Duggars buying that style quite readily.

I find it interesting that other than Jana, the Lonely J's (plus Justin) do not appear to be on this trip. Who has been tasked with "minding" them at home? I mean, I realize they're mostly adults, but this is the Duggars we're talking about... they might elope or look at porn, or God forbid, masturbate if left to their own devices. I also wonder about their abilities to forage for food with no wimminfolk around. I don't see any of the marrieds in Arkansas moving back into the TTT for a week to look after them, so what gives? Are they all each others' keepers? Is one of the former-Howlers a Jill type who can be counted on to narc?

Good observation! Maybe they're all at ALERT. Maybe one of them is courting someone and her parents are watching out for them. Maybe the boys are courting a family with multiple available daughters. The boys were shown cooking a little, but generally men don't do laundry or cook. So who is looking after the adult boys?

Especially when it's that what-the-hell-is-wrong-with-that-thing skirt.......

My mind keeps searching for whatever WTF weird friction-causing activity could have caused exactly that pattern of wear on both those who'd-wear-them-out-in-public monstrosities.....Makes it even more bizarre that any pair of people would wear them simultaneously....

Does some famous fundie clothing label sell jean skirts with that exact wear pattern as, like, a trademark or something?

I'm pretty sure that those skirts are bleached (washed/rinsed) that way on purpose to emulate regular jeans. Not horrible on jeans, but the look just doesn't translate to skirts. 

These grown women should know better. The target demographic for those skirts is easily a decade younger than Jana or Abbie.

The thigh fade on jeans is supposed to make the thighs looks slimmer. Not really necessary on jean skirts since the thighs are pretty much hidden.

Okay, that's kind of what I figured. ...I can see a company trying out this design -- sounds like an idea. But when it ended up looking awful and ridiculous on a skirt....Wow. Shouldn't have brought it to market!.......

I mean, the wear on jeans looks as it does because that's the kind of wear the pants get........But when you try to translate it to a skirt like that-- No skirt would ever wear that way! And it doesn't look like any kind of pattern or design, either. It just turns into a big puzzle and a WTF. 

And, as you say, if somebody were to wear it and not look like a complete fool, it'd have to be a 14-year-old. Or at least somebody who was dressing in a very casual, street kind of way. ....But these two are wearing it as Duggar-semi-formal the way they always do. Something that street-casual looks about as natural on Jana as a ripped death-metal t-shirt would.

I always took it as an attempt to make it look as though the skirt had been converted from a pair of jeans...though it doesn't look as though these particular skirts were ever jeans in a past incarnation. Maybe in the fundie world it's some sort of redemption arc. Taking something evil like jeans for women and making something respectable out of them.

I'm pretty sure that JimBob and Michelle are aware enough to realize that LV would be a more sin-tempting experience for the boys than staying by themselves in the Big House.

I have the same skirt (both with a normal hem and a unraveled hem). I'm older than both ladies. I could post a link to that skirt for sale at multiple "non-fundy" places. There's plenty to snark on in this set of pictures (like WTF are the Lost Girls wearing) but those two skirts don't even hit my radar. Many women who are no where close to being aligned with the Duggars culture likely wear those skirts on a daily basis. 

What continues to be interesting to me is the jeans vs shorts. I thought I remember the males not being allowed to wear shorts, but Smuggar and his boys always have shorts on. Also, Mack's leggings are much shorter than either of her Aunts.

Does that work, though??  I am questioning it because they also tell you dark rinse jeans are supposed to make you look slimmer; thus fading the thighs, seems like it would in turn call attention to the size of your thighs...?

Fading on the thighs suggests friction to me. For me when I see it, it has the opposite effect than it is supposed to, I guess.

Maybe the fashion industry is just making things up in order to sell more jeans more often?  Personally, the last thing I need or want with my thunder thighs is for tacky-looking friction holes to appear in the inseam; after which I can't throw them in the garbage fast enough.  I've never owned jeans long enough to "distress" them in any way, shape, or form on the front of leg (and barely on the back, except maybe if it's the butt); and I'm theoretically fascinated with finding out if skinny women with thigh gaps can keep jeans long enough for the jeans to "distress themselves".

I think the thigh fade is supposed to be more of an optical illusion-ish. Eyes are drawn to the lighter fade, so the sides fall away from the eye into the background.

I'm older, so faded areas on jeans were due to wear and tear. Faded at the knees and butt and sometimes a frayed hem. Really well-worn jeans might start to get holes of some wear on the thighs - but not uniform.

My sister who was blessed with real legs (unlike my stick figure legs), did wear out the inner thighs on a few of her jeans.

Nothing the Duggar women wear surprises me anymore. They seem to be all over the place in Fundyness with their clothing choices, as well as fashion trends of different decades.

It does seem between them all, they would need like 3 or 4 communal closets now. Much different than the one the whole family shared when they all lived together.

Years ago Jim Bob bought a sports team traveling bus.  It was one of those things with multiple bunks down it.  I think he sold the first one and bought yet another one at the height of family size and traveling.  All those boys stuck inside bunks in a bus is what lead to stink bus (if it didn't already stink from the sports team.)

Another reason it's called The Stink Bus is because the Duggars' kids had motion sickness, and they all puked alot while traveling in the RV.  Fun times.
