Michichick May 7, 2017 Share May 7, 2017 I'm in, because I am Bravo's bitch and that's just how it is. I knew nothing of the cast before reading this article, and am intrigued to learn that Nelson is probably at least a Ravenel-level scumbag, if not worse. Can't wait! 3 Link to comment

And maybe also slightly because someone impersonating a Congressman is ballsy as hell and I'm HERE FOR IT. 5 Link to comment
LucyHoneychrrch May 8, 2017 Share May 8, 2017 Also, PageSix had an article about Nelson Lewis, Jr. in which a source said, "He’s a ‘Talented Mr. Ripley’-type, except he didn’t kill anyone." I AM SO IN. 3 Link to comment

janeyjay May 9, 2017 Share May 9, 2017 It was a little snoozy. I think I'm going to need more of Catherine's dad, as he was the livest wire there. Plus her mom is called "Big Cat?" Need to know more! 1 Link to comment
JenE4 May 9, 2017 Share May 9, 2017 Eh. There's nothing charming about this bunch. You know how some people regale their high school days and it's been all downhill from there? Well these people are reliving the glory days of ELEMENTARY school! I didn't even know that was a thing to peak in 4th grade, but Savannah Country Day School apparently is the place to be! I imagine little kids in plaid uniforms walking down the street, and all of the adults in Savannah part to the side and tip their hats in reverence. (I also picture everyone in Savannah wearing hats like in the 1940s.) However, I have a good feeling about Nelson. I don't know whether the "Talented Mr. Ripley" thing was overplayed, but I'm definitely intrigued to dig more into that. He also seems a bit snarky and might be a good "character." I also think the woman who REALLY likes to swim--at all hours and regardless of how disgustingly swampy the water is--is going to bring it. The rest of them I found annoying. Worst was the recently rekindled couple; the girl is just stupid and the guy hasn't outgrown smooching under the Savannah Country Day School bleachers. The guy with the mullet that they kept showing us naked and having other characters say he is hot? Huh? What in the world is happening?!? If that's Savannah's definition of hot, I'm glad I'm a yankee. And then there was a brunette guy and girl that I think are together...though I thought she was with the "hot" mullet guy at first. But he quit a good job to start a sock business? i guess there's plenty of room to go up from here? But nothing about this premiere grabbed me. 14 Link to comment
Lizzing May 9, 2017 Share May 9, 2017 Nelson comes off all to aware he's a reality tv character and that's going to be to his detriment for my enjoyment. Although having a cast member who went to rehab for lying is a new one. I think Country Day is elementary & high school, but no matter, I can't imagine being still hung up on who I went to school with in primary or secondary school in my early 30s. I was over those jokers even before the official graduation occurred. However, it should benefit the show if this cast really does know, or was at least somewhat acquainted with, each other prior to filming. Although, in this second iteration of Southern Charm, they really are missing POC in the cast. The producers should have done better on that front this time around; I guess I'll have to hold out hope for the NOLA version. And until I see documentation to the contrary, that fire was set on purpose. Ashley seems as try hard as Nelson. 6 Link to comment

wovenloaf May 10, 2017 Share May 10, 2017 (edited) That was kind of painful... None of these people are charming. The boring blonde seems like she can barely stand Lyle. He seems harmless, but those scenes of three dorky dudes drinking beers in a little apartment were supremely pointless. These were supposed to be the "cool" kids in high school (except the one who loves swimming in grungy water and looks a solid decade older than the rest of them apparently)...? And the hairy dirty-looking guy is a local heartthrob...? Yikes. Edited May 10, 2017 by wovenloaf 11 Link to comment
lauralu May 10, 2017 Share May 10, 2017 (edited) So unlikeable, and very un-fabulous, the entire lot of them. They all peaked back at Country Day School. I had to laugh at the shots of the girls as they walked down the street out for girls night. That looked so shlubby and basic, like me & my friends when we get a rare night out with out kids. Sounds shallow I realize, I'm ok with my basic-ness because I'm a middle aged mother who doesn't have a TV show. But for all their talk of lineage and old money I was expecting more, much more. Savannah looks beautiful though. Edited May 12, 2017 by lauralu spelling 1 8 Link to comment
breezy424 May 10, 2017 Share May 10, 2017 The best part of the show were the shots of Savannah and the family background stories. The end. They all are, at best, average and bland. The only ones that were 'kind of' interesting was Ashley and Nelson. I barely got through the episode. 2 Link to comment
Sun-Bun May 10, 2017 Share May 10, 2017 Just as disappointed in this premiere as the rest of you all here. This is one shlubby looking cast of boring basics and two try-hard locals((Ashley and Nelson)) desperately amping up their local flavor for the cameras. The only charming thing about this show so far is the glorious city of Savannah, and even its effortless beauty and home porn wasn't given nearly enough justice. Speaking of desperate, every scene with Ashley feels like a bad one woman "Fried Green Tomatoes" stageshow---enough of the "I'm a STEEL MAGNOLIA" grandstanding and the look-at-me random diving and obsession with animal skulls. She's not remotely as fabulous as she obviously believes she is. They're claiming Nelson's not gay?! Now that's hilarious. He must be keeping himself firmly in the closet, right beside his musty old Dolly Parton costumes. Besides, what would the family think? I do agree with Ashley on one thing: the bareassed apeman really needs to get a haircut already. Then again, the other guys on this show have really bad hair as well. Maybe there's a shortage of decent barbers in Savannah since there's obviously a shortage of camera-friendly/charismatic locals willing to appear on this lame show. WTF was with that trashy opening theme song, btw?! After such a cute and swingy opening theme for the original SC, I thought they'd at least opt for something equally retro vampy. That was just trashy and bland. Oh but I'll still watch it, strictly for the only true star of this series so far, which is Savannah. 12 Link to comment
breezy424 May 10, 2017 Share May 10, 2017 (edited) Yeah, Daniel (was that his name) just all kind of feels dirty. The opening song was bad and trashy. Another disappointment to add to it all. I see that it's a different production company from Southern Charm. Hmmm. The same that produces RHOA. I love Savannah. What a disservice. Edited May 10, 2017 by breezy424 1 4 Link to comment

Bronzedog May 10, 2017 Share May 10, 2017 I'll probably give it another chance eventually, but, it was amazingly bad. My reaction reminded me of the first time I watched RHODallas and that got progressively worse, So, I don't know. It also seemed to go on forever. 3 Link to comment

AuntieDiane6 May 11, 2017 Share May 11, 2017 (edited) Why I'm not loving this show: 1) Too many of the cast are kinda plain and pudgy. If you're not going to be traditionally attractive, you've got to have an INTERESTING look--and none of them do. 2) Too much Ashley. I bet she lives in L.A. and came home to star in this show. Bet she wants to dump the husband and send the kid to a boarding schools. 3) Cheap living situations. Lyle? Daniel? They seem to live in college student rentals. Where is Savannah's version of Patricia's house?? 4) Daniel isn't as good-looking as he thinks he is. And he's like, 5'6". 5) Why is Lyle on my TV? He's average-looking, not witty enough to be a bon vivant, and certainly too boring to be an aspiring actor. Edited May 12, 2017 by AuntieDiane6 10 Link to comment

Dmc306 May 13, 2017 Share May 13, 2017 I love the original. I had high hopes that this would be just as good, but it was boring and the cast doesn't seem very likeable. As a southerner, I prefer the quirky Cameron southern versuses these try hands that think they're just absolutely the best. I'd be good not seeing the one guys butt again, and chick's constant need to go swimming..(Install an air conditioner honey, there is no need to be jumping into every body of water you see.) LucyHoneychrrch May 15, 2017 Share May 15, 2017 Ooooookay. I was way behind on this and it took me nearly a week to watch it, and let me tell you, the anticipation was far better than the reality. First, if Savannah Country Day is the epitome of education in Savannah, it does not speak well for it that Catherine can't remember HOW MANY COLONIES THERE WERE ORIGINALLY. That said, I do enjoy Catherine, who seems to be one of the only members of the cast with an actual claim to being affluent. Did I catch that right, that she has an apartment downtown and also lives in her childhood home, while her parents moved to her grandparents' plantation house? (Side note: I did a full-body cringe when Catherine perked, "I hate the term 'plantation'." I bet you do. Second, Nelson Lewis might be my spirit animal, minus the whole impersonating-a-Congressman thing. Listening to him explain his false Bahamian title was surprisingly amusing, and I sort of wonder if it might have been some kind of dare. Third, if Lyle Mackenzie, as promised by the premise of this entire show, is young and affluent, why does his apartment look like the apartment I had when I was 23 and broke as f*ck? Fourth, Daniel. OKAY, Bravo, back off on the "Daniel's so hot" angle, because while Daniel isn't barking at cars, he's doesn't have nearly the looks to warrant all this constant fawning. Are the boys at Savannah Country Day all half-witted Chaunceys or something? That said, 8/10, wouldn't regret as long as he took a shower. I'd recap something about sock-magnate Louis but I kept dozing during his segments. Likewise Hannah, who gives off weird Juliet-from-Ladies-of-London vibes, only sort of like Juliet on Xanax. Fifth, Ashley. Girl. You are trying TOO HARD. Lastly, the only thing that saved this show for me was that everyone grabbed to-go cups before going out to check on Ashley's house fire. THAT, my friends, is southern done right. And possibly the most accurate thing I saw in this entire show. 8 Link to comment
TheFinalRose May 15, 2017 Share May 15, 2017 Dull cast lacking charm. I gave Sweet Home Oklahoma a shot, even though the cast was meh-looking and the setting non aspirational, and I only lasted three episodes before I needed prettier people with higher-priced lifestyles and ended up dropping it. Now Bravo delivers this Savannah dud that wasn't even worth watching till the end of the first episode. The previews don't make it look like anything spectacular is coming, either. I'd rather rewatch the first seasons of the real Southern Charm again than Savannah. Hopefully the New Orleans Southern Charm does better. 5 Link to comment

GoGamecox May 18, 2017 Share May 18, 2017 I live in South Carolina, and no one says all that, "As a Southerner, we BLAH BLAH BLAH" stuff unless we get asked (rarely) about our traditions/language, etc., from someone from another part of the US or out of the country. It's too contrived (and TIRED) to keep including that kind of language in the interview segments. So far, on SC Savannah, I've yet to see a person that I thought, "Hey, I would like be friends with him (or her)." At least on SC Charleston there are a few more likable cast members, in my opinion -- Cam, Naomi, Patricia, etc. But maybe I'm biased with my SC residency. :) 4 Link to comment

Atlanta May 29, 2017 Share May 29, 2017 (edited) Holy moly. SCD must be a lame school. I have a few friends from Savannah who went to non-SCD private schools and they are college grads who are well spoken. They also have careers. I don't mind that they're not all noodle thin (actually nice to see), but none of them, so far, have charisma. Ashley tries too hard. She wants to be the Jenna of this show. Also, the thing about Sherman's mistress is largely a folk tale and there's not much credence to it. My dad is a history buff, esp Civil War. Sorry, Ash, not all of us southern women look at ourselves as baby machines. Did I hear her mention high school sororities? There aren't sororities in HS.
