TAR in the Media

Emmy nominations were announced. Nothing new to report . . . TAR got nominated, Phil did not. Really, if they changed the title of "Best Host" to openly admit to filling the gaps with game shows, I would be a little better with it.  I'm okay with Alec Baldwin getting considered for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for his SNL work despite not being an official cast member . . . but for hosting Match Game? No. Also nominated: Martha Stewart & Snoop Dogg. Of course, it was a joint nomination.

ETA: Fully expecting The Voice to win. Seriously, is it that good? All I know is that it's American Idol with key differences, and the male judges are in a bromance.

The concept is good: the judges start with their backs to the singer(s), so they're judging the sound and not the look.  If they like what they hear, they press a buzzer and they get to see who they picked.  Each "team" starts with 15 singers, who are whittled down each week in duels (but another coach can "steal" an eliminated singer).  The biggest problem is the last few weeks have public voting, meaning that the most photogenic and pop artists continue instead of the better artists (and thoroughly trashing the concept).  The most egregious example was Judith Hill, who was AMAZING, but not what "America" wanted.

American Dad knows TAR exists. Good for them. This is the summary for tonight's episode, airing at 10 p.m. on TBS.

The Bitchin' Race

When the Smiths compete on a reality show, Stan and Hayley ditch the less-motivated Steve and Francine and team up, and they wind up in a Tunisian labor prison.

Actually, this is pretty apt. American Dad basically plays TAR to Family Guy, which is a series surviving on the past, much like Survivor. One potential sticky wicket: that fucker "Johnny Bananas" from The Challenge pops by as himself. Just didn't want anybody caught unaware.

Sorry for the lateness . . . Smithsonian Channel had an hour-long special with Phil Keoghan. I saw the first two segments . . . nice stuff with Phil touring New Zealand and meeting its interesting people. Also, he pulls off the eyebrow pop. Flying High with Phil Keoghan will air tonight at 1 a.m., tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 11 a.m., and Sunday at 5 p.m.

So if they are filming TAR season 30 in October, we obviously don't get to watch till the Spring, dammit.  Life is hard,  I miss our show. Arg.

And I met Joni the Glamazon once, she was very fun. I'm sorry for her loss.

RFF will have some detective work as season 30 is going underway for October filming as production is setting up.

Cody & Jessica from BB have just been announced to join AR. It's been done before with Rachel & Brenden & Jeff & Jordan. I guess they could do okay. I'm just not sure how I feel rewarding Cody with another job after his bigotry & other views. Hopefully, they'll be elicited early. There's going to be a live CBS stream of the beggining of the race on Oct 1. Somewhere in New York, I think. I'm just glad the show is coming back. I'm assuming it would start airing in February 2018. That's just a guess though.

Hey, CBS? Big Brother contestants do not make TAR better. I know, sucks that a Racer won Survivor before a stuntcast team won TAR, but too damn bad. That's taking the place of a pair that probably deserves to be there more. Stop making Big Brother try to happen beyond its malformed universe.

Speaking of TAR30, I found this on Facebook:

Public/Live Start for TAR 30:

Witness them take off at Washington Square Park (Fifth Avenue and Waverly Place) in New York on Sunday, Oct. 1. The public start will begin at 11:30 a.m.

I have to go. I didn't do TAR25 in Times Square because they kicked off at 3 a.m., and I was hesitant even though the area has been sanitized several times over. Who's with me?

I'm ok with Jess and Cody being on this new season. At least we're not getting random matchups again. Last season, my first in years, was rough to get through at times because of the teams not knowing each other and then all of them becoming best friends forever unless you're the team the Best Friends Crew is trying to get out.

Hopefully, there's none of that shit again. It's called a race...so RAAAAAAACE. We definitely won't have to worry about that with Jess/Cody, so there's that.

That being said, either Jess/Cody will get very far, because Cody has been shown to be quite competent in physical and mental tasks on Big Brother, or bad luck will hit them and they'll be out early. Anything could really happen, so I won't say they'll be the next Rachel/Brendon and get to the finals. I liked them both on BB, but I predict that they'll get a very annoying edit here, because both could be aggravating under pressure.

Let's hope he is friendlier to them than he was to the houseguests.

Would you be friendly with those people? They were horrid. He treated the ones that were good to him with respect. Mark, Elena, Kevin, Jason.  Josh's post show interviews  say Cody went to him and congratulated him & apologized on finale night. Which should have been on Josh to do first, with how crazy he was.

Can't talk now. Here's my album. I'll fill in blanks later.

ETA: Here is the album. As much as I enjoy TAR, attending the start was a pain. It took hours to unfold. There were multiple takes. Phil simulated two starts before it actually happened. I was sore and tired, and I wasn't even racing. I mean, Phil was basically Elvis, so that's still good to hear, right?

I saw a YouTube video of two guys (Don’t know who they are & have never seen their work) and, they were there for the start of the race. There was lots of fans & chaos. He got really close to Team Jody reading their clue and Jessica was asking people for directions to the airport I think. I also saw in the video of Team Green. I don’t know they were there for giggles or if they are returning. I don’t particularly hate Team Jody but I don’t want them to win either. They had their reality show fame and Cody won $25,000. It’s time for someone else to win and become a reality star(s).

Maybe you should post this in the non elimination thread too. I rarely go to the media threads for any show and I am not alone on that.  Thanks for posting this. And for going there! . I am not surprised to hear how long it took.  You had an excellent vantage point!  How early did you get there to be right at the starting line?

Found this on Reality Blurred: "Amazing Race 30 spoilers, including how well BB19’s Cody and Jessica did." I'm not including the link because you might not want to know and accidentally click it.

Nineteen seasons of Big Brother? Damn.

Can you post the link or information in the spoiler thread with eliminations, please?  I searched that site and did not find how Jody placed.  That is one poorly designed site!

It doesn't say.  It only says the exact same information as already posted in the spoiler thread with eliminations.  the article links to the RFF site, with details, but again, no more than already spoiled.

Just eight weeks?  They're really rushing through this next season, then.  Some weeks might double up on episodes, then.

Yes. The season will have twelve episodes same as last season.

There will be four two-hour episodes on January 24 and the entire month of February as separate two-episodes back-to-back.

I banged out an essay on TAR30 and why the series should continue. Originally, I had wanted to include the faults of TAR29, including the screwed-up U-Turns, but it didn't come out of me.

ETA: Found a link from Facebook spotlighting "The 25 Most Unforgettable Amazing Race Teams of All Time." Guess what? It's the same fucking list they posted in 2016, only with 'Unforgettable" instead of "Favorite." As much as I want to believe CBS is giving the series more of a chance, shit like that convinces me that it's good with the other reality shows they broadcast now.

LOL. I love that Cody brought like 30 pairs of underwear on the race. The throw away socks is actually a good idea. I am sure that socks get yucky and smelly fast. Throwing away a pair a day lightens the pack, makes more space and probably is a nice mental boost because fresh socks rock. I like the idea of one backpack for the two of them and knowing that everything they were bringing was expendable. I find it interesting that he had to choose from the things he had in the Big Brother house. I hope that they had good coats for colder climates. It sounds like they went to a backpacking store for the back pack, here is hoping that they got decent down coats that could easily be backed and still keep them warm because that hoody would not be near enough for colder climates. I liked that Jessica knew she didn't need to bring a good amount of make up on the race. I suspect that the baby wipes idea came from Cody. Baby wipes are popular with people who have been deployed down range. They may have access to showers out in field so baby wipes are commonly used to get clean. They are also something that will be thrown away as they are used so that the pack lightens as the race goes on and there is more room to carry race relate stuff, like gnomes.

I chuckled at the idea of the zip lock bags like it was a new thing. I have a series of stuff sacks that I use when I travel and backpack. They are great for organizing, compressing items, and water proofing. Zip locks are a good way of doing the same thing in smaller bags. It would make sense on something like the race to use them so I doubt that it is a new thing.

It sure sounds like they did a good job with the packing. Jessica made an attempt to figure our the Race as a non-fan. Cody has got to make some pretty dumb mistakes in the first rounds of the race,  it should be interesting to see what happened. It is clear that he was thinking old school and is not familiar with the new school race. I wonder if he was given the option of watching past seasons while he was in sequester since they knew he would have a very small amount of time once BB ended.

So it was nice video, clearly they are hawking stuff on their channel (The DR Pepper can was just a bit too obvious).
