I think so, too. It's very easy to be 100% certain the divorce is evil and marriage is a commitment to God when you're talking about other people, but it's a lot harder when you live with someone you dislike (and who dislikes you) and are completely smothered by that person -- and their HUGE family -- 24/7.

I mis-read the end of your last sentence as "and you want to completely smother that person." Works both ways!

OR when you're JB and Michelle and got to normally date before marriage, and be married 4 years before kids. I wonder what they would say if a kid told them they planned to use natural family planning for a few years so they could work and save money. What grounds could they find to object?

Because Gothard.  Quiverfull.  TLC.  These kids are under the gun to reproduce.  Remember, ANY form of BC is bad and goes against God's will.  Even NFP.  Because by doing that you are willfully stopping sperm from reaching egg.  No sperm, no speshul snowflake.  And God gets sad.

Kind of like the "Every Sperm is Sacred" song from Monty Python's movie "The Meaning of Life."  That song was poking fun at Catholics but the parallels are the same.

Isn't it crazy that NFP is bad to avoid pregnancy, but micromanaging sex to produce a pregnancy is applauded by this family. Shouldn't they just leave it up to God - either way?

You would think.  And just like Michelle seeing a reproductive specialist to find out why she wasn't being knocked up after JB riding her like a rented mule.  That was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw that episode...if God is in charge of when babies come, wouldn't it be messing with His will to get help conceiving?  What if God said "no more" and seeing the doc was actually them thumbing their nose at God's will for their own gain (publicity and money that comes with baby #20)?

Well, just maybe it's more of a political thing, and they are using religion as an excuse to pump out more voters for God so that their special brand of superiority can take over the country.

He's wearing a Sam's Furniture shirt. Wasn't that where Ben and Sierra's husbands were rumored to work?

Not sure if Ben ever worked there than over a summer vacation, but Sierra's husband and that creepy Joe Donaldson work there. Sierra bitches about his 14 hour days. Maybe if she'd get a fucking job, he wouldn't have to work himself to death to support his little quiver.

For all their humble bragging God-bothering ways, they certainly don't seem to practice anything they post.

Derick loves to post about humility and sloth...he's arrogant and lazy.

i realize TLC is their "job"... I don't so much snark on that as their grifting ways for their pretend mission and their wedding gift grab.

Of course, not practicing what you post is maybe the key Duggar commandment. I mean, I don't know that I'd ever heard anyone spout off about "servants' hearts" before I encountered the Duggars. They say it all the time, but apart from Jana's and JD's indentured servitude to Duggars, there's not a servant's heart among them. Not much of even a heart among them either, as far as I can tell. They're 100 percent about talking a good game.

I guess nobody's really going to be attracted to marrying any of them unless deep down that person is really attracted to the Duggar way. And self-righteous hypocrisy to the max, supported by grifting and skimming money off people who believe that you're providing them with a ministry when you're just spouting crap, is the Duggar way. That's about all there is to it, really. Which I suppose is why they only collect would-be-preacher sons-in-law and all the Duggarling males are lined up to be he-man-job-of-your-choice-here/preachers.

Except that would be logical and that is too much for the Duggars.

It doesn't count because they are speshul snowflakes.   It's God's will until it doesn't match JimBob's will.   See how that works?

Lmfao, her husband can't be making more than ten bucks an hour at the furniture store, how the hell else does Sierra expect him to support a family of seven while she plans Duggar weddings for free?

I though she sold off her catering business since dipping strawberries and opening bags of chips was too much work.

Absolutely agree.  And the huge gender reveal...never quite got that.

Also, as an older person I find the sentence, "We're pregnant." somewhat off-putting.  I can live with,"We're expecting a baby in ..." but in my opinion only one person in the relationship is pregnant.  I think it's an age thing.  My hubby agrees.

I'm thinking that the only unconditional love and total attention for poor Izzy comes from Grandma Cathy and he doesn't see her all that often.

Izzy does always seem really happy when he's with Cathy. I'm sure Jill just tosses him into the pack of Forgotten Children at the TTH and goes about her business.

"She literally loves people," Michelle told TLC.

Wtf? As opposed to  figuratively loving people? Pretending to love people?

and, as a nurse, I can confidently say Jill would never make it through nursing school without a major worldview shift.

That is one of my biggest pet peeves.  I want to scream when someone at work announces, "Guess what?  We're pregnant!"  I want to respond, "Really, your husband is pregnant?  Notify the record books."

I've always thought this, and it really stood out when she visited them in DA and seemed heartbroken to leave him. Maybe we're not used to seeing anyone show emotion, and that's why it stood out, but I feel like she adores that boy. On the other side of the family, Izzy is just a number, but he's Cathy's only grandchild, and one of her few blood relatives. I wish she could adopt him!

Izzy seems to be having a great time with Cathy, and vice versa.  Glad she seems to be feeling better. I'm curious why the Dillards seem to have been there for a while – are they staying there? Didn't they do an "early Christmas" with D's family?  ( I noticed no stepdad in the pictures that were posted!). Are they still there or is it close enough to visit frequently?  And it's not like D is missing work and needs to get back!  HA HA HA HA!

I don't understand this picture, as in it's composition makes so little actual sense.  Why is he sitting so awkwardly while his wife stands?  Why is he sitting in that particular position?  Why did no one pull down his pant leg so we don't have to see that he wears black ankle socks?  (This really, really annoys me - people who wear sweat socks on all occassions - be they crew or ankle.) Why do their smiles never seem to reach their squinty, squinty eyes?

I don't get it either. In addition to the awkward pose in which it appears he's painfully trying to cover her belly, he also appears to be floating on a cloud of posturepedic mattresses.

I hope it doesn't turn out to be a case where Jinger is constantly stuck between the two most important men in her life as they try to score points off of each other in the name of the Lord.

Unfortunately, I think that's pretty much the essence of what it means to be the child of Jim-Bob Duggar.

And so far he seems to have successfully married off four kids to women and men who'll all play the opposing role you mentioned (in male or female form) and apparently not even try very hard to get their spouses to live a different kind of life -- or go along with a different kind even if the spouse wanted it, I expect.

Yes, but since everything they do is in the service of Jizm Bob's and Meeechelle's bottomless egos, God doesn't really come into it, either way, despite their talk. It's all about sending as much Jizm Bob and Meeechelle  DNA onto the earth and into the far reaches of eternity as possible. Ironic that they're held up by a million idiots as these quintessential spiritual beings when literally everything they do is compelled by the inexorable physics-and-chemistry-driven programming of their little hunks of genetic material to replicate themselves.

I think my favorite part of that astonishing piece of prose is this: "She literally loves people," Michelle told TLC.   There's an unintended admission for you. Despite their ceaseless Christ talk (Remember him? The Gospel of Love guy...), it's literally incomprehensible to SelfishBitchelle that someone actually could love other humans.

I bet Iz loves -- or will love when he gets older -- going to Cathy's house. Sure the TTH seems more fun, but at the end of the day he is just one of a pack of grandkids and younger kids who are viewed as a nuisance by JB and Michelle and the older sister moms who must chase after them. At Cathy's, I bet he is the center of attention -- sitting Cathy's lap; her and maybe his step grandpa entertaining him, reading to him, playing with him; and Cathy probably cooking him his favorite foods or having his favorite snacks on hand just for him. Nice to see Cathy reading to him bc you know there won't be much book learning happening in his own home. One can only hope it was a secular book like Twas the Night before Christmas or maybe something about Santa.

And yet, we've seen her comfortably touch acquaintances and strangers, which suggests she's got some warmth in her.  Maybe it's JimBoob who's the restriction.

I was most amused by the - well, it was tough to pick a favorite about that batch in retrospect.  First how hard they had to dig to find one Duggar who'd be interested in higher education; then within veritable Internet milliseconds, it shifted from "nurse" (actual regimented rigorous ebil of years), to "doula" (attend workshop of presumably weeks in duration at best). And the comments!!  Someone who had (presumably) watched the Duggars at some point in their life, trotting out that old hoary line about "homeschoolers are better educated than the general population" (!).  (Yes, I'll believe it in the hands of an actual homeschooling grownup who follows a lesson plan, and hits all state-required curriculum points along the way, and includes room for self-study for tangents that stimulated their young student's greater imagination on top of the state-required curriculum; and has the sand to insist their kids not skip stuff they don't like 'because it's haaaaaaarddddd.')  What about seeing any part of the Duggars over the last umpty-umph years, suggests to said leghumper that the Duggars seem better educated than the average person?  You can pretty much tell that Stephen Hawking has more education than the average person.

What I found interesting is that Jechelle said in 2010 that Jill was studying Spanish.  Yet, when she went to the "mission field" in '15-'16, she was taking in house Spanish lessons and still didn't seem to know many words.

Exactly. Kathy treats him like an actual person. To Jill he is just Baby #1.

Even though Cathy and Derick have somewhat disappointed us, they are much more "normal" than the Duggars. Or, at least they come from a normal world, despite the fact that Derick seems to have fully become a duggar. Cathy dotes on her grandson like any first-time grandma, while the Duggars are so detached, and barely consider a new baby a big deal. Luckily for Jinger, I'm sure Diana will act the same way when they have a child. I have given up all hope for Jill, but maybe, maaaaaybe Jinger and some others will take cues from their in-laws about how children are special and unique.

Izzy is so cute and serious buying his produce (which, unlike all the other D-kids and spawn, he actually seems to recognize as food).

I want to venture onto Jill's Instagram just so I can post that I have a sure-fire solution to morning sickness....stop getting pregnant. And tell her to cut with the "mommy" business. Is there any other identity in this cult? Gross.
