Yep. There were three Fredericks. Well technically Friedrich. There was Friedrich Papa Bauer. His son went by Ed and his son went by Rick. I was always sad that Rick didn't give his son the name Frederick for another nickname or just have that be his full name and go by Jude. Then again by that point I'm not entirely the writers even remembered that there was one episode someone mentioned his real name was Richard. Ah, no. 12 hours ago, floridamom said: Yes! They explained how they came up with the name. (Derick’s middle name is Michael, his father’s was Wayne) “The name Frederick also holds special meaning for us since it’s Derick’s name with “Fre” added to the front, to make “Fre-derick.” Similarly, Derick’s name is a variation of his late dad’s name, Rick, that his parents created by adding “de” to the front of Rick to spell, “de”-“rick,” literally meaning son “of” (de) Rick. We were excited to settle on the name Frederick and incorporate both Derick’s and his dad’s name, by just adding “Fre” to the beginning of Derick’s name.” 1 1 4 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/4651-jill-derick-the-kids-moving-on/page/1303/#findComment-7558815

Notabug July 23, 2022 Share July 23, 2022 (edited) Really cute pics, the boys look like they're pretty happy being big brothers. The baby looked to have oxygen via nasal cannula and perhaps a feeding tube when he was in the hospital. NC is one of the lesser ways of giving oxygen to a baby, so he wasn't needing very much at the time the photo was taken. He had a tube in his mouth which is usually used to feed babies who aren't taking enough orally although they can also be used to suction fluids out of kids who have liquid in their airways. At the time we saw it, the tube wasn't hooked up to any sort of nourishment, so we can't really say if it was used for feeding, but, it likely was. He probably had a poor suck and maybe was a little jaundiced, both common with premature babies and they were giving him intermittent feedings to keep him hydrated until he got better at nursing. Looking back at the photos of Sam's birth, I think he required much more support than Frederick did. Yes in many naming cultures, it's not unusual to follow this pattern, so the third son is the one who gets named after the dad. Of course, Jill and Derick aren't following a traditional naming scheme and I doubt they'll ever have a little Jim Bob, but I think a lot of times people don't always have the most logical of decisions on this, especially when it coming to honor names. One of my grandpa's brother's decided to give both of his sons my grandfather's middle name as their middle name. So, both boys have the middle name Dean, like my grandpa. My grandfather and my grandmother still find it privately bewildering his brother did that twice. My dad was a first son, and was named for his father--first and middle names. Unfortunately, my grandfather did not like his first name (but named his son that same name) and went by his middle name. My dad was known by his initials in the family his whole life, but used his middle name regularly (luckily this middle name was a good one!). My dad's brother was named for both of his grandfathers. Unfortunately for him, they were both terrible names. He was called by his first name in the family (sadly, the worst of the two bad names), and made a shortened version to use in public. I doubt that anyone outside of the family and the Navy ever knew him by his real name as an adult--and certainly not his first and middle names. My dad getting his father's first and middle name worked out for him, but I always felt kind of sad for my uncle. And he was such a nice--and funny--man. The SF Giants have a player named Wilmer Flores. His father was Wilmer, and ALL the sons have the first name Wilmer. They all go by nicknames. Apparently, the youngest goes by the Spanish term for "little one". He is 6'4" and weights 240. George Foreman named all his sons George. I had a child in school who was from Viet Nam. Her name was Lahn. Her sisters were Lanh and Lan. I know they all sound different in Vietnamese, and are all different names, but to my ear they all sounded the same. Very confusing. 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/4651-jill-derick-the-kids-moving-on/page/1303/#findComment-7565432

Our maintenance guy at work is Israel. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/4651-jill-derick-the-kids-moving-on/page/1303/#findComment-7565565

Yeah, in a world full of Jackson, Jaxon, Jaxyn, Jackxon, Jaxson, Jaxxon, Jaxsen(all spellings I've encountered over the years), Jill's kids will be fine. 4 6 9 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/4651-jill-derick-the-kids-moving-on/page/1303/#findComment-7566510

The pics with Izzy holding Fred are priceless. 7 7 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/4651-jill-derick-the-kids-moving-on/page/1303/#findComment-7566646
