Someone upthread mentioned how that Kim's photo shoot was staged to imitate an old fashioned kew pie doll. I think so too.

 

For those of you not old enough to remember, ....I recall growing up (somewhere in he 1960's)  a kew pie doll that some friends had. These dolls actually came from the 1940's, I think. That said, the female dolls were made of rubber, with the same top-of-head pony tail that Kim's is wearing. Moreover, the dolls had on strapless dresses, and when you squeezed the doll's stomach, the dress fell down, to reveal its bare ass and the naked boobs popping out all like a secret naughty surprise. So this is what the great photographer was going for with Kim's photo staging, hair, dress, the strategic nudity and her surprised expression.

She may not have been completely successful, but she tried to be more than tits and ass. The only thing Kim sheds is her clothing. Marilyn was actually a size 12, which was considered a standard dress size for the average American at that time.  I even recall an episode of I Love Lucy, where Lucy took extreme measures to lose weight so that she could fit into a size-12 stage costume.  A size 12 now is considered large by the fashion industry, and a woman that size is considered Rubenesque. 

 

Not only does Kim lack talent (beyond giving a "please fuck me!" look in photos), she has repeatedly shown she will do anything for a dick, a smile and some attention.  It's very telling that when she is seated next to her egocentric husband, Jay-Z, and Beyawnce that three of those people have multiple awards because of their talent.  Meanwhile, there is thirsty Kim sitting there with nothing but a homemade sex tape as her claim to fame.

The confusion is because on a moral level it's hard to accept that fame can function as it's own engine. Kim doesn't have to actually DO anything to help a business, because being as famous as she is, the press follows her wherever she goes and reports on it. So a photo of Kim showing up at your club, or your event, means free press. This has nothing to do with any skill Kim has. She's just the middleman in this deal.

It's largely what the entire business of Reality TV stardom is based upon (with the exceptions of the ones from skill-based competition shows). Although to be fair it existed before Reality TV for socialite figures who did the same thing (albeit on a lesser scale).

I was going to say the same thing. A friend of mine went to a museum where they had several of Monroe's dresses on display and she was shocked by how tiny they were. When we think of an 8 or 10 we picture it in today's vanity sizing terms, not how sizing was done fifty years ago. My friend said the dresses looked no bigger than a 4 (by today's model) at most.

I saw the complaint once about how the Jolie-Pitt kids always seemed to be carried long after they should be walking.   I heard one explanation that made a lot of sense:  when dealing with crowds -- that include papparazzi it is actually safer and easier to carry the kid.   You know where the kid is, right in your arms.   The kid is not slipping from your hand and bolting.    I can bet that is what Jay-Z and Beyonce think too.   Blue Ivy probably walks everywhere when they are alone, but in public is carried.    North West on the other hand has to fend for her little safe because no way her mother is thinking about her needs.   She is just worried that carrying a kid will block the view of her cleavage.

Just watched the Wendy Williams show, I like the "hot topics" part. And she was talking about how Ray J gets $50,000 a MONTH from the sex tape of him and Kim from back in 2007. Also she said that since Paper magazine pictures came out that the sales of the sex tape have gone up, to be the number one celebrity sex tape, knocking down the Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee tape which held the title for years. This is quite the tune change. Before it was because they were culture definers and Kim had strength of character. Wonder if the Kimye Vogue issue wound up being not as successful as once touted and a blemish on the magazine. What I hated most about Kimye getting the cover is that I saw Anna as one of the last bastions, one of the last guardians making sure the barbarians were NOT allowed through the gates, giving them any hint of legitimacy. Anna not only threw open the gates, she rolled out the red carpet opening up the floodgates and allowing the Ks access to the refined air of the haute fashion world. I include Kendall in this, no matter how much she protests being a K helped her get where she is. No way she would've gotten an Estee contract otherwise. I don't care want anyone says.

 

Also, Vogue is supposed to set trends, not follow them.
