I just saw one of my favorite commercials ~ although I don't know that their money was well-spent, because I'm not sure what it's a commercial for ~ a car ~ I think BMW?  Anyway, the point is that the car has three rows of seats, and there's a family, Mom & Dad in the front seat, two daughters in the middle seat, and Grandma bringing up the rear.  Grandma is a pistol.  In this one, she tells about her mother yelling "Heads up" whenever a storm was coming, because they lived on the Plains.  She yells "Heads up!" and startles everyone in the car.  When Dad scolds her, she says "That's how we did it on the Plains; we're Plains people."  Punchline:  Dad says, "You're from Queens."  Nothing to do with the car, but Grandma is a piece of work.  In another commercial, she regales the family with, "Your grandfather always liked it when I wore leather.  [Pause.]  He was a very dominant man."  Go get 'em, Grandma!

I have that milk commercial about cats with thumbs saved to my computer, and play it once a week or so because it just never stops amusing me.

My favorite cat herders are the guy with the big ball of yarn, and, especially, the one with the lint roller.

I'd never seen that "Don't judge too quickly" commercial before, or that last one with the giant cat.

I just discovered this site and I haven't had a chance to peruse all the entries.  One of my favorite older commercials (not shown anymore) is for Kohler.  Mom is relaxing in a bubble bath and her two little boys come in to use the toilet and wash their hands...they don't even seem to notice her.  Dad comes in and scoots them out and lowers the lights so she can go back to her relaxing bath.  Those two little guys are so darn cute!  More recently I like the BMW commercials with the old lady in the back seat.  In one she claims her husband liked it when she wore leather because 'your father was very dominating'.  The son shuts her up quickly.  in another she claims to have been raised on the plains.  Her son says, "You were born in Queens, Mom."

Just saw a better description of the BMW commercial above!

And I'm starting to get attached to the GEICO free range chicken....

I love the GEICO Free Range Chicken! The chicken is so confident and blasé in his travels, just getting on with his wandering self. And the farmers look so genuinely befuddled: "He just keeps sending us pictures." And the selfie is hilarious.

OK, the "single woman whose relatives keep trying to fix her up" may be the oldest trope in the book, but this girl pulls it off well. I'll be your date, "Liz"!

The actors really make that Enterprise commercial work. They both come off as nice people and the guy manages to seem supportive, not skeevy. And yet somehow, when it's over, I kind of hope those two crazy kids meet again, marry, and live happily ever after.

Saw this commercial a few times again last night and am reminded of how much I love it. Awesome animals, Roger Miller, what more could a girl ask for?

That is one of my all-time favorite commercials, ever. Perfection: cute animals being buddies to a sweet old folksy song.

This Burger King ad is weird as hell, but it's funny to me.

I ranted about this in the "Confusing" commercials thread. What's the premise of the campaign? Are the chicken fries the offspring of the chickens and fries? How does that work? And why would watching cute happy actual chickens attempting to date make me want to EAT them? I just don't get it. But the chickens themselves are really cute, I agree.

Cute commercial

I complained about this one too in the other thread. Mr. Potato Head isn't really a cannibal so he's not doing anything wrong here. He is a plastic toy, not an actual potato. If he wants to eat potato chips, they aren't actually made of his friends or anything.

Scooter's back!!!!

Thanks for sharing that! The Scooter commercials are just the best. And the lyrics are just as funny as the imagery (and it's such a good message). (Aside from the "he's got no nuts" lyrics (hee) just as Scooter walks by a pile of actual nuts... my favorite moment is the West Side Story callout with the dueling cats with switchblades in the alley...)

I always enjoyed the British milk commercial. And tease my cat about not having thumbs.

I loved seeing the British milk commercial as the cats patiently work toward being our future overlords. And always great to see the "herding cats" commercial afterward (a classic).

Last but not least, thanks to the poster who shared the wonderful local Oaktown Pup (Oakland animal shelter commercial) -- it was truly heartwarming to see all those real people and animals, and to see the happy successfully adopted pets. It was especially lovely to see the older pets and pets with disabilities still happy and hopeful of adoption (I'm a big fan of people who go the extra mile to adopt an older or disabled animal -- it can be incredibly rewarding).

Yeah. They're pretty much implying that the chickens and the french fries give birth to the chicken fries.  Such as this recent ad:

It's strangest thing, to me, about this ad is a chicken being pregnant, as opposed to laying eggs.

I want a giant living cat couch too! Who doesn't?

And while there have been some good cat commercials over the years, my favorite is the unofficial version of the Friskies one.

LOL I hadn't seen the unofficial version, so my head popped up at the first "Holy shit!" I saw the original version first at a 3D screening of Alice in Wonderland. It's quite surreal in 3D.

Thanks riley702! I posted from my phone, so I wasn't sure how to embed.

Just put the YouTube link in there all by itself, the site does it automatically.

I didn't see it posted (but could have missed it) - I love the commercial where everyone is stopped, silent, watching the astronaut take one ginormous leap for mankind on Mars. It also makes me sad that everyone is staring at their own digital device alone-together instead of being huddled around, together.

Sadly I can't say for certain (without looking it up) who its for (It's U-Verse, I had to look)

I have mixed emotions on that one, too; sure, it's nice that for people who'd be someplace without access to a TV at the time and would thus otherwise miss it, they can sneak a peek on their device, but it's also sad that such events largely won't be communal experiences in the future.  Being gathered around the TV with family, friends, fellow students, coworkers, etc. - hearing each others' reactions, discussing it in the moment, etc. - is a significant part of my memories of many major events in history.  (And I say this as someone who is happiest alone.)

Ahhah! Heather has two mommies.

My question about that one is: wouldn't these women have met this child at least once prior to deciding to adopt her?  You know, to see if they're all compatible.  I know what the ad's trying to do, and that's fine, but it just bugs me to see them apparently meet the child for the first time and announce "we're your new mommies".  Yeah, I know, I'm overthinking it.

There was a tv on in a pizza place I stopped by the other night, and I saw a very cute credit card commercial of a series of (probably) youtube clips of people's pets just being adorable -- in costume, etc.  Just sweetness and wonderfulness and it instantly sucked me in while I waited to place my order.

Will definitely pause on it if I see it while FF in the future!

Is it this one?

This is true, but I can't help but think, what time of day is the Mars landing happening?  If it's during the work day, people wouldn't be huddling around the TV together anyway.

At the time when not everyone had access to video like they do now, yes, everyone did stop work to crowd around the TV and experience the moment together.

But the point I was trying to make was that if people don't have access to something where they can watch the Mars landing right then and there at work, which a lot of people don't, no one these days is going to drop everything and run to the nearest TV and watch it.

Saw tonight for the first time, any commercial that opens with "Smash me, dear God, smash me now" has my attention. Apparently Miss Fluffytails (a ceramic bunny) is tired of witnessing all sorts of personal acts and smells in the bathroom.

Forgot to say it's for Quilted Northern toilet tissue.

So people can watch it here:

Who let the damn onion ninjas in? I must go move all my investments to Wells Fargo (not really but damn did that not get some major good will from me). And yes, I am ignoring the whole never met the child before or perhaps it's a fostering situation thing.

There was a huge event recently (in the last 2 years, I am blanking on it) where people were huddled around computer monitors to watch it happen. If the Mars landing happens during the work day I can people may not run to the nearest TV but they'll be watching it live at work via their work computer or mobile device. If companies are smart they'll prepare for a short disruption in the work-day to witness this historic event.

Okay, I was skeptical about State Farm hinting at some exciting new development in their commercials, but they just won at TV advertising forever—take THAT, gecko! Makes me glad to be a longtime customer.

I like the Coneheads, and especially when working "mass quantities" into conversation, so I don't object to this take on the commercial, but I still think it would have been better left as is.  Or, at least, it would have been better had this new commercial suddenly appeared, without the stupid "something is coming, Earthlings" ad in the interim.

I stumbled upon this "skydiving cats" commercial. Don't worry, its NOT REAL, they never left the studio.

It's always hard to tell with cats, but they really do not look like they are enjoying themselves.  But that is a cute commercial.

You just know they hate being dressed up-they just tolerate it.

Just saw the Coneheads ad for State Farm for the first time. Sheer genius. Doesn't mean that I'll switch insurance companies, but I like the ad.

Now I have to go dig out my copy of You Are What You Is so I can listen to "Conehead."

I was just thinking about all the great commercials Ebay did when it was new and shiny. The one with Christian Borle singing "That's on Ebay" to "That's Amore" pops up, but I can't find a good quality video for the very first one, with the guy singing "Ebay" to "My Way." There was also one with a woman using that tune, plus one using "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" and another using "On Broadway."
