Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

I don't know about pregnant, but with all that hair and makeup, she looks like a porn star.

Her makeup is straight outa Instagram/Youtube.  Most girls her age now wear their makeup like that out in the wild.  They are so inexperienced that they pile on the makeup like they are getting in front of a camera when they are just going about their day.  I wear a lot of makeup, but I learned how to apply before we all had cellphones with cameras.

The overdone natural look sported by Erin has been around for almost a decade now.  My sister is 30 and one of her friends wears her makeup like this.  The real issues are Erin's foundation is off and she is too pale for black eyeliner.  If she used brown, gray,  navy or taupe eyeliner,  it would look better.  Also, she needs to get matched for foundation.   The one she is wearing is a shade too dark and the undertones are off.

I am curious if the kids are enrolled in Medicaid, WIC, or SNAP. My friend had a micropreemie with a three month long stay in NICU, and the baby was automatically enrolled in Medicaid and mama and baby were on WIC, but I think she only qualified for a few months longer, like maybe not even until the first birthday, because her medical needs were not that extreme. It makes me wonder if Janessa is on Medicaid or not.

Hi,I'm new here,have been lurking for awhile,though.

Idk If the Rod's use SNAP, but it appears they might be eligible.I looked it up for WV:

https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/eligibility#How much could I receive in SNAP benefits?

If they use it,they would be getting $2163/mo for food

West Virginia has work requirements for SNAP recipients. Either Jill or David could be exempted from the work requirement because they are needed to care for the children, but the other one of them would have to get off their ass and find a job in order to qualify.

OK so maybe I have my timelines all askew, but can someone PLEASE explain to me how the Rods were able to secure a mortgage for their house?  Was David working at the time?  From the “moving in” video it sounded a hell of a lot like they went through the normal channels to get their house. Yet I heard somewhere that the house actually belongs to (her?  His?) parents, who either moved into the rv or a smaller house.  So confused by the grift!

Oh...and I wish I could see the ring she bought for herself.  Seriously?  A new back patio that won’t be used till spring and now a ring?  I hope folks start seeing through all this and stop donating.

Thx for that,mynextmistake.

So no mortgage, but they grift the rest for utilities, gas, food, vehicle upkeep, etc? That's a lot to expect.

I'm guessing they don't pay any taxes, since income is all donations.

I've noticed fundies don't ask for things they need...they want extras.Like the mixer and perfume Jill wanted.

I don't see why she doesn't sell something that would sell better, like Mary Kay..50% profit,or Avon,40% profit.Discount for all the beauty items they use as well.Avon doesn't require items to be bought upfront

If she wants a home-based business, an MLM is not the way to go. An astonishingly large number of people don’t earn any money in those schemes. Many of them actually lose money. But they all teach you to fake it until you make it, so Jill brags about selling enough to buy herself a diamond ring when in reality she likely hasn’t made a red cent off plexus and is paying for her jewelry with money she should be using to feed her emaciated children.

I cannot even express the level of contempt I have for Jill. She is a terrible excuse for a human being. Every single one of those children should be removed from her home and placed in foster care immediately. They’d have a chance at a normal life, and Jill would lose all of her grifting fodder and have to start earning her own money. She’s unqualified for any legit job, but maybe there’s a niche market in the amateur porn industry for women who have had 14 kids. She’s already dressing the part.

Mary Kay would not be better. Go to the pinktruth.com and find out how Mary Kay scams people. The amount of money they need upfront plus the pressure of recruting new people makes for a stressful low paying job. The Pink Truth includes stories of people who are many thousands of dollars in debt.  Mary Kay would be a disaster for most people including Jill.

Avon is better since they don't require things bought upfront and aren't as interested in playing games with their employees.

As for Plexus, I'm convinced it's a snake oil.  At least Mary Kay and Avon sell make-up, jewelry, etc.  Products that are nice to have, but not supposed to necessarily have health benefits. The health supplement industry is criminally under-regulated in America so they can put together whatever they want and call it a "health drink".  I wouldn't be surprised if someday Plexus gets into hot water over it's products.

Plexus is of course a Christian company.  I never heard of it until I started reading up on fundies. I think the founder is fairly fundie himself, which probably attracted Jill to the company.  (Also MLM was not a term I'd heard of.) Other fundies also sell Plexus. The only one I can think of right now is Michael Pearl's younger son's wife, Zephyr Pearl, who also appears to sell Plexus.

I have a thing for makeup youtube even though I barely wear any myself, and the too dark foundation is ridiculously common among young white women. Too many times to count I've opened a video because the thumbnail looked like someone with my skin tone, and then the video starts and it's someone who's much, much paler.

Idk about Plexus, but I think Thrive is the top selling co. for weight loss supplements right now.Not that I'm advocating for it;idk anything about their products.

But if Plexus works so well, why isn't David using it,and why isn't it working? And the vitamins..the kids shouldn't look malnourished and unhealthy if they're eating enough and taking them w food

The foster care system in WV is overwhelmed due to the opioid epidemic,  which has bit there hardest, if you go by overdose death statistics. I saw a statistic that in one country, 80% of grandparents are raising their grandchildren. No way the system is going to do anything about families like the Rodriguez family.

I'm pretty sure her parents actually bought the house that they live in.  Her parents stay there when they are on the road.

Her parents were living in the house while Jill and family were on the road and the RV while Jill and company were home because her parents were renovating their own house.  Her parents have always either had their own home or were renovating one.  Jill and family, however, lived in her parents' house for awhile and the parents were in the RV!

The Rod family aquired their home so suddenly and the first video Jill showed us had the house already chock-full of old-lady wall decor and knickknacks.  I always assumed some elderly woman in their church gifted the house to the Rods.  Most of us take some time to fill up a house after getting a new home.  That house was crammed with outdated decor from the get go.

I also thought that an older church member grifted them the house when she died,  complete with furnishings and knick knacks.

It is amazing they are able to grift enough $$ to survive.

Where does Jill's disabled sister live? How many children does she have & what does her husband do for employment?

Hopefully the county coroner did an adequate investigation. I wouldn't put it past Jill to help speed things along so she could have the house before the old lady changed her mind.

Someone on a FB page posted a pic of the ring. I’m reposting here.  I would give credit if I knew it was ok to post person’s name.  Admins, please remove pic if inappropriate...

The money spent on this bauble could’ve at least put a dent on the food bill for a week.  Combined with the money spent on the new patio, that family could’ve been eating well from now till Christmas.  If not well, then better.

That diamond looks to be over a carat. Even if it's a shitty quality stone, it had to cost her a few bucks. I can't believe she'd choose to upgrade her wedding set rather than use the money to support her family. What an unbelievably selfish woman.

I doubt it’s real.  It’s probably CZ and gold plated. Still, that was between $50-100 and was a piss poor choice for money expenditure.  As was the patio refurb.

Its not “something special” between you and your husband to buy yourself a ring. The “something special” is the wedding band.  The ORIGINAL wedding band.  Or even if Shrek bought her the ring.  That would be special.  But supposedly she bought it herself.  So it means nothing aside from what she paid for it.  She just wants to keeps it hush hush so the griftees don’t get wind of it.  But they will...it’s on social media!

Mabe she she needs some people to judge her like she judges other people.

When they moved into their current house, Jill was deliberately vague about how they came to live there.  The only thing we know for sure is that they didn't pay a dime for it.  If anyone knows how to search real estate records; have at it.

As I recall, they were living in another house that belonged to some poor sucker, er Christian, who let they stay there for free because Jesus loves them most of all.  Eventually, their landlord came to his or her senses and asked them to leave; I think they wanted to sell the place. I think it was at that point that Jill and Chubby and the kids hopped in the RV and spent some time touring the countryside grifting from church to church.  Jill repeatedly lamented their lack of a home and constantly reminded her readers that they could not afford to pay anything but needed someone to give it to them.  She also reminded their Christian brethren that she had a passel o'kids and needed X number of bedrooms, Y number of baths, a space for Chubby's print shop and a lot of land.  All free and all within close range to where they had been living near Charleston, WVa.  She wasn't asking for much, after all.  There is video online of the place that they ended up receiving, and, while it is decorated like Granny's Kountry Kabin, the rooms look quite large, they seem to have a lot of space (whether you could ever have enough space for 13 kids is debatable) and there seems to be a lot of land, too.  David has a separate workshop where he can sleep all day while pretending to be busy printing up pamphlets with smiley faces on them telling sinners that they're going straight to hell.

At the time of the accident, Jill's sister and her family were living up north in New York state, I think.  She has 6 kids, the youngest of whom was just a baby when they were in the accident while traveling to W Va to visit the family and her sister's neck was 'severely broken'.  I guess it is possible to only mildly break one's neck since Jill ALWAYS qualifies it as severe.  After the accident, the sister, her husband and kids moved to West Virginia to be nearer the rest of the family.  Her brother in law looks to have a real job and it seems like they actually paid for the house where they live and did some adaptation for her sister who is a quadriplegic, which really is sad.

I'm surprised Jill had the self-awareness not to make the video public. She seems to think she deserves what she wants and loves to show off.

I'd like to know what she paid for that ring. If it's gold plated with industrial diamond chips, it was probably pretty cheap. Still, the point is she whines about being poor, and the kids are rail thin. Her solution to these issues is to go shopping for herself. She'll probably ask Nurie to throw her a party to celebrate her newest blessing, the ring.

That's a shame that neither of them will get a real job so they can qualify for benefits. It certainly would pay them to do so,so they can feed their large family properly.

I've never seen such a large family who isn't willing to work hard to provide for them.David at the least should feel ashamed.

I do wonder if Jill makes some money doing haircuts on the side. She has the barber chair and set up in one of the rooms

Well the Duggars' main source of income seems to be tv. JB did some kind of property management/ownership to provide for them before the show. (Actually he still owns quite a bit of property.)

Gil and Kelly Bates's  main source of income for a while was tree service primarily run by their son Lawson. Now they have a tv show.

If you go to Free Jinger (FJ), they are quite a few large families that work off doing some sort of "ministry" usually without any formal credentials. (A lot of ministers, priests, rabbis etc. of more established churchs and ministries usually have some education and training to be  in the ministry.)

Jill and David may seem different to us, but I'm not sure they're that different from others who share their beliefs. Welcome to Fundieland!

Mods--I apologize ahead of time if this is not in accordance with the rules.  Everything I found is public record.  I just did some in-depth searching :)

Because I'm bored or my self-esteem hit an all-time low, I went digging for some records on our 2nd favorite family.  The lot is only .45 of an acre.  It appears that WV also has something called Personal Property Tax Records, which shows 5 vehicles. The real estate property taxes appear to be very low.  Then again, WV is a poor state with a lot of issues (drugs and social services at the top of the list).  I wasn't able to find anything on when the deed was transferred though.

Just when I thought these parents were scraping the bottom of the barrel, Jill comes along and takes them down a peg.  Someone needs to throw that ring back in her face and remind her she has 12 children to feed.  I hope and pray Timothy never returns to his roots.

Ugh, I hate to pay this woman a compliment, but the patio came out nice.

If they've got three deer in the freezer, why do the children still look so starved? You can buy bags of frozen veggies cheap at Walmart and bake your own bread for pennies. I don't think they're getting adequate portions of whatever's being served.

I agree the patio looks nice. I'm also going to slightly defend them here too. I took her post as they have 3 deer now, but got all 3 the same day. If it was the day she posted the picture, it was just last week. Even if they ate all 3 deer in the same day, those poor kids would still look starved though.

That was the first thing I noticed, but I also know my sister and then her kids years later were blanket kids and no matter how many times their blankets were washed, they looked disgusting. And good luck trying to replace the nasty blanket, it's like the grosser the blanket, the more the kid was attached to it.

Jill and David have also made their address public on their website.

FJ did a bunch of sleuthing when JillR announced that they were grifted a house and found a listing from September 2015 in the Charleston Gazette of a land transfer from the owner of the property to Jill and David for $125,000. It was probably FSBO, because it never got listed in the MLS (which means it was never listed by a Realtor). It's also not clear how the owner was compensated, (if she was given a down payment and they're essentially financing through her, they're renting to own, or they obtained traditional financing, etc).

Unfortunately, taking any step takes time and resources.  Even if they took a role of oversight without removal and placement, it would take resources away from kids in very dire circumstances.  It isn't right and I think Jill's look malnourished, but from what I've heard there are some horrific situations in that area with kids at immediate risk.  Jill's kids may be in a bad situation, but they aren't at immediate risk.  Kids like Jill's fall through the crack because they are doing the bare minimum to avoid investigation.  Frustrating and sad, but true.

Jill's kids are all as filled out or more so than my grandson.  They're thin, but unpopular as it may be to say it, I'd wager all or almost all her children fall within the normal range of BMI for their ages and height.  Do I agree with Jill's financial decisions?  Never.  Do I agree with the photos she's posted of feeding the kids? No.  Many of them would probably weigh more if fed as well as my grandson.  He's never lacking for food and he's all muscle.
