Small Talk: The Prayer Closet

Message added by Scarlett45

This is a reminder that the Politics Policy is still in effect.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss political social media posts of those in the Duggar realm- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

Political discussion is not allowed in this forum- this includes Small Talk topics. Please stay in the spirit of the policy- I have noticed a tendency for some to follow the letter but not the spirit.

While we understand the frustration (change is never easy), please keep in mind that not everyone feels the same way and that for those members who don't, the ongoing conversation about other forums and chat options can equally be a cause of frustration.

Out of respect for your fellow posters, we kindly ask that you continue any discussion about alternatives via PM or the Technically Speaking: Bugs, Questions, & Suggestions area.

Jill Rodrigues even made it into the comments there. As did Josh. Cannot escape these people 🤣.

I nearly died laughing at the phrase “their cretinous jizzwad son, Josh Duggar”! The most perfect description ever! And the comments, especially the ones about Jill Rod, are priceless.

They’re illegal in many places, but the laws don’t seem to be enforced. I’m not sure why people feel it’s necessary to set off fireworks several days before and after the 4th. It traumatizes pets and some people, too.

They are illegal here, and a sheriff's deputy lives two doors down from us. He was one of the main ones setting them off the last two nights. Our chihuahua is thrilled.
We can deal with a night or two of festivity a year, but we're already on a week and it's too much. They started setting them off at 10 yesterday morning, it was hard to even get him outside to do his business.

@MargeGunderson I love your pantry.

To everyone in the USA I hope you had a nice holiday. I laid low, and yesterday during the observed day, I lay in bed, finished my One Tree Hill rewatch and was 100% self indulgent. I ordered Uber eats, ate some watermelon, watched some Dawson's Creek and had some peace with my own thoughts. It was wonderful.

A friend of mine had never seen Grey Gardens (either the documentary or the 2009 movie with Drew Barrymore), and longed to understand my references- we watched that virtually on Sunday morning and she said "Oh Dear" several times. Thank goodness for friends.

Thanks for asking. I’m a lot better. I am a normal person who can walk and bend over but sometimes things feel a little tight or “funny”. I’m heading back to get acupressure on Thursday and I’m doing stretches.

Makes me look forward to getting more weight off, if I was lighter I such injuries would be easier to deal with.

I forgot to add, I love all things Grey Gardens (the original documentary, the Drew Barrymore/Jessica Lange movie, and the updated doc that focused on Jerry, their handyman.)  I also read Jerry's book, The Marble Faun of Grey Gardens, which was so pretty good.

Ah, yes, now when I say that my great aunt and cousin are living in a Black Grey Gardens, my friend understands exactly what I mean. Truthfully I am still hurting over the situation, but I am going to be okay.

Since this holiday weekend has been largely rained out, I decided to use the time to clean out and organize my basement pantry. It got a little out of control during the pandemic. A couple of hours of work and this is the result:25980E9A-1DF4-47A4-88A4-CD0FAC3AE2FC.jpeg.6179e18c6991cb6ba9a9c7d9f4f9926c.jpeg

Then I entered everything into a pantry tracking app (Out of Milk, highly recommend). So hopefully I don’t end up with 6 cans of coconut milk again. Mr Gunderson has been warned to tell me when he removes something from the pantry or risk my wrath. I also organized/refilled my spices and organized my purses this weekend. I’m running out of things to organize here….

Wow that’s impressive! Maybe you should do that for $. People would pay you.

Well, my 4th July was very good...until it turned just horrible.

My daughter's German Shepherd Nala bit my (chiuahua dog) Paloma so badly, that the emergency vet had to put her (Paloma) down.  She couldn't be saved.💔

OMgosh it still doesnt seem real😢

I can't stop thinking and crying over how horrible her wounds looked😭

And some of my grands saw it happen😭😭😭

My daughter's family all were staying at my house (with Nala) for a couple of week's visit.

Nala and Paloma always got along great  every time they visited.no problem at all.

But Sunday changed all of that.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my little dog bite her big dog first..and hard.

We don't know how it started though, we all missed that.

So perhaps Nala was really just defending herself.

(That thought does not help me though, tbh)

I feel SO f'ing GUILTY for not protecting my little dog better.💔😭

My daughter and I both saw it happening and couldn't stop it in time😭

I don't think I'll ever have another pet...it hurts SO much.

I'm sorry I'm such a downer, but I don't think it's good to only let people see the sunshine and roses in your life...know what I mean? Besides, I need to talk to people who aren't my kids or grandkids...and that leaves you guys.💕

I just keep thinking of her little brown silky ears and waggly tail...and now she's completely gone😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Oh @ChiCricket I’m so sorry!!! What tragic news!!!!! Sending you all my love.

It wasn’t your fault, the fireworks may have scared the dogs and made them very jumpy and defensive. You gave Paloma a wonderful life, she was lucky to have you.

Thank you everyone. My husband is taking it very badly. Paloma was his TV watching buddy. Whenever he'd sit to watch TV, she'd jump right up into his lap every time. 💔

My granddaughter Sofi was her very special person if my husband wasn't around. Sofi was only five yo when I first got Paloma..she's 15 now😭

I feel like I have to keep it together for them. But it's so,so hard to do.

I'm so glad I have all of you to "talk" to about it. Thank you for being here for me.😢 💕

Hi Small Talkers! My "to do" list for today is minimal. My #1 goal is to be indoors and cool this afternoon, when the outdoor temp is forecast to be 100F. Sigh. I've seen in the news that there was an earthquake on the CA/NV border, tropical storm Elsa blew up the East Coast with floods, tornadoes, and heaven knows what else, and it's still very hot in many places. Yikes! I hope you're all safe despite the vagaries of weather and natural earth phenomena.

I thought of this forum when I read a letter in the Miss Manners column today: https://www.uexpress.com/life/miss-manners/2021/07/09. Short version: how far must one go to accommodate the religious doctrines regarding modest dress, of one's in-laws' in-laws, who now intend to join in a previously planned resort vacation? I can just see JillR carrying on about being persecuted by Satan because someone in her orbit, however distant, refuses to buy a new wardrobe of vacation/swim clothing so JillR and her family won't have to interact with folks who expose their shoulders, clavicles, and legs to view. Cracked me up. Spoiler: Miss Manners doesn't have time for that kind of stupid demand. Heh.

The last few months, since getting my COVID vaccination, have felt more "normal" than the prior year did. But my state, although I think we're 70% vaccinated, is reporting big numbers of cases of the Delta variant. I've been wanting to get out and travel a little, but I'm finding that I'm reluctant to even book a campsite at a state park a couple of hours away. I'm going with my gut on this. My reluctance is driven in part by the need to be in town to deal with estate administration matters although the pace is slowing down, but also by concern about COVID. I'm not terrified, but definitely wary.

The current increase in cases and especially of Delta cases has put a crimp in my life also.  I'm back to wearing KN95 masks when I have to go indoors for medical appointments or shopping and I've quit any extra shopping trips.  Stay safe and healthy!

My family has been vaccinated and live across the country. I am East coast and they/are West coast. Tonight they all came for dinner. It was so wonderful. We were all cautious, but to spend time with them...I can’t begin to describe how great it was. B

I'm over the moon.

I do have to add. There was a 3 and 6 year old included. The parents brought them Bento boxes [ altho I had planned for them as well as got a few things (toys) at the Dollar Store so they wouldn’t be bored]. Imagine my surprise when their grandfather (my nephew) told them it was adult time that they amused themselves! Mind you they were very curious about a new house and we even had to inspect the small attic door to make sure that it was free of  any any monsters lol . How do I say this? A great time was had by all and I’m over  the moon. Really grateful. They have now gone and the thunder and lightning has begun  I’m not bothered

Interesting and ironic that the "rules" for this hateful, bigoted snarkastic piece of (ahem) journalism begin with an admonishment not to be hateful or bigoted. Like or dislike the Duggar family as you will, this piece was so slanted I'm surprised the letters didn't slide right off the page.

All being said, I think the Duggar story has been told sufficiently. I don't really see the need to see Josie's courtship, wedding preparations and birthings. We know how the Duggars approach these topics, having seen them multiple times. Time for the Counting On gang to...Move On.

Has anyone here ever bought something from a Facebook ad and got scammed?

I think I was, and I guess I just have to "eat" the money I paid. I'm such an idiot.

Just like the review I attached, I just got this teensy puzzle in the mail today instead of the folding puzzle table I paid $19.99 (+ $6 shipping) for.

I was getting the table as a present for my husband, to cheer him up.

I had checked this scam page before I ordered..and there were NO complaints.

Now there are over  300 complaints...and many got a tiny puzzle instead of the table they ordered too! 😡

My mom was known to order things she saw on Facebook and whatever it was, it was usually a piece of junk. Usually made in China and impossible to return or get a refund. Sorry it happened to you, but the ads are usually better made than the product.

I don't use Facebook but my daughter in law sent me a suggestion of a chess board for my grandson's birthday.  She got it from Facebook.  I ordered it in March and still haven't received it. My credit card refunded my money after I contacted them.I sent several emails to the company and got vague, unhelpful replies before contacting my credit card company.  My husband has had some disappointing results with products that he has ordered after seeing them advertised on Facebook.

I had an awful experience with a Facebook ad too. It was a company called Nora Cora and I WISH I had looked at their reviews before ordering. It was a $100 lesson, and even tho I was able to show proof that it was a fraud, and that I tried to send the rags back to China, Paypal would not refund the money. But I now know to read reviews on Trustpilot.com before ever buying from an unknown company. I hope this will save at least one of you from making the same mistake.

Ouch! Suddenly my $26 loss doesn't seem so bad.

I'm still calling my bank on Monday to see if anything can be done. I'm sure that these creeps get away with this a lot, because we who were scammed are:

1.embarrassed about being a shmuck

2. saying to ourselves "it was "just" $26"......😡

(I wonder just how much $$ they made on this scam!)

My friend sells things on EBay. He has to use PayPal. Every time someone complains (and usually for no good reason) they freeze his money. He has learned to try and not do business with people from China as they always complain and then can’t be found via the addresses or contact info they provided. He is out a few thousand dollars. So I second the PayPal warning. I’m not on Facebook either. It sounds like a good thing that I am missing their ads.

I use an ad blocker so I'm never tempted at all.  That way if I want something I go to a site I've picked to look for things.  I used to look at the occasional interesting ad and almost bought some of the clothes.  An online friend warned me it would be extremely cheap and useless so now I don't see it.
