Same!  Bonus points if it has both Tony Shalhoub and Stanley Tucci.

We've been trying to find "Big Night" to watch again. So far no luck.

When I was on Jeopardy a few years ago, the local newspaper interviewed me.  I said that if I won a huge amount of money, my wife and I would like to go to England, because we were both big fans of Midsomer Murders, and we would like to see the places where it's filmed.

When the article was printed, they spelled it "Midsummer" Murders. 🙁

Under the heading, Unpopular Opinions, I very much enjoy Mayim as host. And as I recall, Ken wanted his introduction as it is given, so I’m fine with the intros. I like both Mayim & Ken as hosts.

But wait, there’s more. Not clearing the boards is way down on my list of things for which to criticize Jeopardy!

I'm fine with Mayim, as well.

J! - Ran Australiana, thanks to the Dodgers and Miata I managed to not completely fail the MLB and CarZ categories. Missed one in Groundhog Day and two each in the others.

I feel like CAR"Z" was supposed to be pronounced like, uh..."cars"? Not Car-Z.

DJ - Ran Poetry, almost failed Geography (got one), missed one Dog and two each in the others.

FJ - I got it! (Helps that I saw him on a news video earlier today (talking about the situation in Russia, not chess).)

C'mon, guys! THERE WERE TWO PRESIDENTS NAMED HARRISON! (But I picked the right one. Also got Edward but not the right number.)

TSes: Bondi Beach and "weak and weary"

There's something wrong when the contestant knows more about how the game is played than the host does. "Can I bet $2000?" Yes, you can, sir... and you should also help yourself to Mayim's salary for this episode, since you're doing her job for her.

I liked Emma and am happy she won.

I said Bobby Fisher, because I'm a moron and didn't even realize they were talking about chess until right before the end and blurted out the first chess player that came to mind.

I got the missed clues of Bondi Beach, Pirates and Golden Gate

I got the entire category of Australia right and the entire category of poetry wrong.

I wasn't paying attention. I know I got Bondi Beach and for Pirates, I said, "Stealers!"  (I knew that wasn't right, but I did NOT come up with Pirates.)  I couldn't get "weak" to come to the front of my brain. Weary, yes, weak, no. I knew dank wasn't it, but at least it ended in a K.

I picked the right one, even though I almost never get presidents correct, only because of the old Disney movie The One and Only Genuine Original Family Band which had a plot about the campaigns of Cleveland and Harrison.

Me too! I was really pulling for her at the end and watching the scores.

I was cheering for Ben after he took that DD for all it was worth.
Scott had a wealth of knowledge that should have bought him a few more wins, but I liked Emma more than either of the last 2 champs.

Pittsburgh Pirates. D'oh.
And, ugh, it's "Steelers" anyway. No stealing.
But I'm almost as tired and weary as my new-parent daughter and her husband who are just 30 minutes away.
So, no FJ either for me, in spite of being a big fan of "The Queens Gambit."

The $2K Cat Stevens response would have gotten me to FJ, but it wouldn't have mattered, because I still would have been third.

I hadn't a clue in "My Playlist," other than about "Play That Funky Music White Boy."  I know and like "On Broadway" but couldn't recognize it from the lyric snippet.  I'm fairly confident I have never heard of the other three songs.  This would be a massive weakness for me if I ever went on the show!

I don't like Mayim, in general or as the host of this show (I know, you're all shocked, since I never mention it), but it tickled me that she called it "single Jeopardy."  That's a running joke I have with a friend who's also watched for years.  There are 20 comments on Reddit about how that's a function of her having never watched the show before or bothered to really learn its lore, but in the moment I thought it seemed joking or knowing, and it made me smile.  Something about that thread made me realize how I must sound sometimes, because it really was awfully harsh.

Mayim's also not the one making the decisions on things like "Harrison" and so on.  I think I've said before that I like the way the new EP talks about the show but I'm not frankly convinced that he's running half as tight a ship as Harry Friedman did.  Somebody tried to tell me that there were always all these loose judgments, typos in clues, etc.  I really don't think so.

I knew Pirates, Paul VI, and "weak and weary."

Agree that "Harrison" should have been a BMS. Maybe they didn't require it because there was only one Harrison that was president between Grover Cleveland's two terms? Or because William Henry was barely president before he contracted pneumonia and died?

I made a lucky guess on FJ. Bobby Fischer was the first name I thought of, but I knew it couldn't be because he died some time ago (2008, to be exact).

I was rooting for Emma also. I don't see her becoming another Amy or Matt, but I hope she's around a few more days, at least.

I googled Lake Como and it is pronounced Cuomo in Italian. I think that's why it wasn't reversed.

Italian has very clear rules for pronunciation. With the exception (sometimes) of which syllable gets the emphasis, you can entirely tell how to pronounce something based on its spelling/phonetics. It is entirely unlike English in that it follows its language pronunciation rules, and every letter has a purpose.

Como and Cuomo aren't pronounced the same. Having said that, I wasn't paying enough attention to have an opinion on what the contestant actually said!

I am finding I am having a hard time caring enough to pay attention now that Amy's run is over and Mayim is back (not sure what is impacting me more).

Oh, dear, this was not my game.  I only ran authors and MLB in the first round, but wasn't terrible in the rest, missing one each.  But then came DJ.  I ran poetry, but that was it.  I blew leaders almost entirely, only knowing Meir.  I missed two each in the rest.  And then capped it off by not knowing FJ; I didn't even know what that show is about, so I had no clue.

I'm so irked at Mayim for her snotty comment about Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs yesterday, she is beyond salvation for me. Yeah, I saw the movie so knew it, but geez Mayim, how many answers do the players give that you don't have a clue about, like maybe ALL OF THEM? How on earth did she get chosen to host this show anyway, and I'm serious. Is she paying Sony? If the show wants to be "progressive," get a woman with hosting experience like one of the experienced news women who guest hosted.

FJ today was an instaget and I've never seen Queen's Gambit nor do I play chess. Sometimes that just happens. And yeay for the player who knew the DJ DD bet could be $2,000 because the show host sure doesn't. That was a highpoint for me, which isn't saying much since this show is so painful to watch now that Mayim's back.

Someone also needs to teach her how to say BMS.

Going now to take my anti-cranky pills.

This happens sometimes. It's like my brain has the right file, but it dropped it on the floor and all the papers fell out.

"C'mon, Guys!" doesn't bother me. She says it when the correct response strikes her as funny. I don't think she's chiding the contestants. I think she's commiserating with them, and kind of laughing at the silliness of the situation.

I totally agree. For me, this kind of comment feels just like the light-hearted ribbing you'd give and take at a family game night or a fun pub quiz, and I actually like that both Mayim and Ken have a fairly relaxed approach that seems to put most contestants at ease.

I appreciated the timing of the MLB category, because I read this morning that Washington DC finally chose a new name for their football team (the Commanders), which people are already complaining about, and it was nice to be reminded that so many other sports teams have stupid names too.

I'm glad I didn't think of Karpov or I wouldn't have known whom to choose. I definitely don't have the "burden of knowledge" about chess. I don't know who the current American champ is.

(When you said "She plays a Russian" I thought you meant the character was Russian, not that she played against Russians.)

I did the same with Edward. I didn't even come up with a number.

She does these long pauses instead - which eat up time (imo) and doesn't really help the contestant until they realize the pause has gone on too long.

I did pretty well, for me. I ran poetry, which is highly unsual. Got all of the songs except one. I never heard of the Offspring or their song (I didn't listen to much pop music in the 90's)

In "You're the Dog" - I couldn't come up with the Bush dog - I went to the John Oliver parody of the Pence book about their rabbit. Oliver's (A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo) was really funny, so I spent a pleasant few moments being mixed up.

No FJ. I knew what the show was about, but chess players eluded me.

And my mental file cabinets are now stacked to the ceiling of a home that is listing more and more with age.

But at least I hollered "Me Too!" as soon as I saw the name Tarana Burke in the $400 IN MY WORDS clue.
Sadly, it didn't appear that either of the men recognized her name.

I also said Bobby Fischer, although I did debate whether or not he was dead.  (Spoiler alert: he is.)  I almost changed to Gary Kasparov but didn't.  I never watched The Queen's Gambit so other than knowing it was about chess, that didn't help.

I got Bondi Beach (also ran that category), Pirates and weak & weary, although weak was something of a guess.  I like Poe but don't have The Raven memorized.  I was yelling Texas Rangers at the tv - I can't believe none of them got it.

I said Gadsen Purchase instead of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which I've heard of but didn't know to what it referred.

Clearly most of those songs are not on my playlist because I only got Madonna and Play That Funky Music correct.

I didn't know the pope answer and apparently completely forgotten that Paul Ryan existed.  I did well in poetry and poorly in alliterative geography.

And they absolutely should've required the first name of the Harrison who was president between Grover Cleveland and Grover Cleveland.  They are so bad about this.

Poor, poor Laika.  It always makes me sad when I read or see anything about her.  Although I suppose she had a better life while being prepared for the mission than she did when she was a stray on the streets of Moscow, so that's something, I guess.

It's just too bad that Jeopardy! is not a family game night or a fun pub quiz. While comments like "C'mon guys" might be suited to those events, they are not, IMO, suited to a serious trivia network tv show like Jeopardy, where high-stakes money is involved. Show me a family game night or fun pub quiz where someone can win a quarter of a million dollars and I'm in.

I found the contestant stories very charming today.  The challengers were a little "on" for me, but I can't blame anyone in their position.  I would have been happy to see any of them win.

I'm impressed that I got FJ!  I hadn't ever heard of an Eisenhower jacket (more on that from Wikipedia) but the date of death and mention of WWII made me think it could be him.

I was thinking it might have been nice to put the author's name for "Mashed Up Books" on the screen.  But things could get busy fast if they did too much of that.

Mayim, the apostrophe is your hint not to say "de alma."  And I wish they'd just mark things like "[Operation] Desert Storm" for her since she clearly can't figure them out herself.

And the only TS I got was Maltese.  Bad night for me.

I answered FJ before the clue was finished being read. I guess it was in the wheelhouse of people who have military experience and are of a *cough* certain age.

Posting for a friend who, after the TS of "Maltese" was revealed, said out loud, "Bullsh*t." This from the official AKC standard of the Maltese, referencing the coat:

"The coat is single, that is, without undercoat. It hangs long, flat, and silky over the sides of the body almost, if not quite, to the ground. The long head-hair may be tied up in a topknot or it may be left hanging."

And so Jeopardy continues with its long-standing tradition of using super-crap photos of dogs that are not a representation of their breed.

I was surprised none of them got FJ!. I guess before their time. Both my father and my husband's father served in the Army in WWII. Growing up, the only being that was more revered in our household than Eisenhower was God. The year threw me for a second - I thought Eisenhower died before that. I don't remember seeing his funeral on tv, but then I remember I was a freshman in college March 31, 1969. Looking at my mother's diary, she noted that she watched the funeral on tv.

This was the clue: Tangled wires led to the 19th c. phrase this type of "telegraph"; eventually, this became the way you hear a rumor.

If we go by what someone up-thread said you should do with a clue, that is the answer is what comes after THIS, then they wanted the type of telegraph.

Then Dictionary.com says under grapevine: Also called grapevine telegraph. a person-to-person method of spreading rumors, gossip, information, etc., by informal or unofficial conversation, letter writing, or the like.

So I'm not surprised they gave it to her.
