This is so stupid. It is seriously awful. If this was not produced by Ryan Murphy this season as a series would never find a network. This is like a film student's attempt to create a horror movie and the professor would return the celluloid and say do it over because it has been done before. It is so amateurish. I can't see how some members here find any of this "fun."

This is no longer fun. It’s dumb. No one is staying dead. I don’t know where they are going with this. Unless someone pops in and says surprise we are filming a movie, kind of like they did with  Roanoke, it just doesn’t make any sense.

Pretty much me the whole episode.

The most suspenseful moment of this season so far was watching Cody Fern broil in an oven. Other than that? Everything has been predicted. But god bless Fern and how he commits to his performances even with dreck material.

I am enjoying this so much. It is so campy. I got it wrong that Brooke imagined the attack and was one of the killers, but got it right that there are multiple killers with different agendas. Poor Mr. Jingles and the guy with the huge penis. I don't want Candy (the faux nurse) to die, but she really does have it coming. I felt for the guy with the boiled face.

I am not sure about the supernatural goings on, but I am beginning to think that everyone is dead and is replaying the events surrounding their deaths.

Fern is a great actor IMO.

I also love the show's commitment to the 80s with the clothes and the music. The aerobics scenes were hilarious and so real. People were so into aerobics, it was ridiculously intense.

Well, that went every direction there is to go, didn't it ? But it was the 1st episode this season that I actually liked, so go figure ! I am one of the guilty ones who posted my lukewarm sentiments after the 1st episode ( and maybe more, don't really remember.) But I actually liked tonight, with all the crazy twists-- so I will probably be in the minority again, but oh well.

Poor Jingles ! Even though I was expecting some sort of twist with his story, I really didn't think it would go that way. I did think Margaret was crazy as a loon, and that she was probably really evil, but no way did I think it was as bad as it looked tonight.

Not sure where it's going from here, but at least I'm looking forward to next week's show. I'm intrigued.

I enjoyed this episode and I will say again what I have been saying after each episode, who is going to be there to welcome those poor young campers in the morning and will there be any buildings left?

I wish they hadn't shown Mr. Jingles in the preview for next week.

Lots of twists and backstabbing going on, I'm pumped for next week.

I'm genuinely enjoying this season so far. Partly because of the 80's theme, partly because I like the cast, and partly because it's episode 4 and I have no idea what could possibly be next. This was a weird mix of nothing happening and everything happening. I can't wait to see where this goes.

I might have different thoughts a few episodes from now, but today I'm super entertained.

So we found out who the true killers were.

Thus was definitely the best episode of the bunch so far.   And my guess that Jingles was somehow a pawn of Margaret was correct.

Also that Montana was connected to the wedding that went horribly horribly wrong was done in a really good way.   The sister of the best man that Brooke supposedly slept with who was the first one to get shot.

The battle Royale between Jingles and  Ramirez with Brooke hanging between them was hilarious.

Poor lunch lady Bertie.

I think the only thing I dislike about this increasingly fun season is the supernatural aspect.  It is an unnecessary addition to an already overpacked season.   Not every season needs ghosts.

That is a small nitpick.  I am back to looking forward to this show every Wednesday.

I like that AHS is always reliable when it comes to humor. This show doesn't take itself too seriously and for me, it's fun to watch the actors embrace the silly and crazy season after season.

This episode started off fun with the aerobics class. Midnight Manaerobics lol. Then the argument Montana has with that guy about playing Billy Idol vs something like Cyndi Lauper? I giggled. Also laughed at the line "He was Billy Idol cool but with a heart of gold."

Chef Birdie has been fun with her minimal screen time. She sees Jingles and is mostly unfazed by his presence. 'Why don't you sit down and I'll fix you something. You like peanut butter and jelly, right? I never forget a sandwich order.' Lol. (Sidenote: That looked like the worst pb and jelly sandwich I've ever seen. Barely any peanut butter or jelly! Also, unless it's toasted, you're supposed to put jam on one side and peanut butter on the other.)

I liked the Pulp Fiction scene with the adrenaline shot. Chett lets them know about how their friend killed a guy in college and Cody's character's response is 'Wow, I thought gay porn was bad.'

Back when Margaret told her story about not making a sound when her ear was sliced off by the killer, I posted that I thought it sounded like bullshit so I was glad to get confirmation there. It was a little too obvious but it doesn't bother me because there were a bunch of things I didn't suspect or predict like "Rita" being the main reason for this new killing spree. I also didn't suspect that Montana would have a relationship with the night stalker.

Leslie Grossman in that pigtail wig was hilarious. Margaret must have been a crazed lunatic from day one because the teasing she endured wasn't even that bad. I thought they were going to pull some horrible prank on her but no. Just a couple of bitchy comments and she decided that everyone needed to die. Hopefully Jingles will be the one to send her to hell.

Not sure what the rest of the season will be like but I like the idea of this being a movie within a show.

Regarding the supernatural aspect--it isn't my favorite, but it does help (loosely) tie this season to seasons 1, 3, 5, and 8. If the characters who have died come back as ghosts, I'm guessing that the same ghost rules that were established in past seasons will be at play here.

Margaret being the real killer, I guess we should've seen it coming but it was nicely revealed and damn, poor Trevor. He did not deserve that.

Then again, Xavier didn't deserve to be cooked and Bertie definitely didn't deserve to die either. I really liked her.

Did laugh at Montana/Donna scrapping it out as Ramirez and Richter went at it with each other with Brooke being in a net. I really hope Brooke gets better material as the show goes on.

Nice flashbacks with Montana and Richard, found the ritual bit at the end interesting as well.

Overall, this season is coming along nicely for me, 8/10

If Margaret is the real killer then why did the season start off with a flashback showing Mr. Jingles killing those teens? It's not as if that was a character point of view, it was just presented as info for the audience. Unless Margaret is lying then the show itself is an unreliable narrator.

Sure, there are lots of "fun" things about this season like the campy 80s styles and the slasher movie cliches but Geez, even Asylum and Hotel made more sense than this. I don't have any idea what's going on and I'm not one of those people who can watch a show that makes no damn sense and just 'enjoy the ride.' Personally, I don't enjoy being taken for a ride. I had my fill of that during Lost, thank you very much.

I really should be enjoying this season more than I am.  In theory it should be right in my wheelhouse - '80s slasher homage (which I love), campy (which I prefer over the overwrought drama that AHS sometimes falls into), I was growing up in LA the time of the events (remember both the Olympics and the following summer of Night Stalker fear so clearly - no sleeping with an open/unlocked window).  But at this point I am kind of "meh" on it;  not the worst AHS season, but sort of in the middle.   Part of it might be Emma Roberts in the lead, who I always just find overall unlikeable - not in the sense of "what I great character I love to hate", but in the sense of "she is annoying, get her off my screen".   That said, I am still curious about the (likely) twist.

I will miss Trevor and his huge schlong (unless that somehow gets resurrected too....).

I'm with you.

Unless I missed a Very Special Investigation Discovery episode, Richard Ramirez was not murdered by a serial killer and then resurrected. You can't just invent a back story for a real-life figure. The entire season of Apocalypse was written around Queenie's death in Hotel, and she's a work of fiction! That's why I keep coming back to this all being some kind of fantasy, like the van license plate said in the first episode. None of this is real. It can't be.

Could they all be characters in a virtual reality game? That's different enough from Roanoke to not be a recycling of the idea of a show within a show.

It was a little confusing but enjoyable in the way AHS usually is.  I did want to point out that the "pulp fiction style" adrenaline shot was good but did people in the 80s really know how to do that?  Also - no one referred to peanut allergies as a thing in the 80s either so definitely wouldn't have been used to describe the shot.  Maybe bee sting allergies?  Or some other allergy but peanut allergies weren't widely known.

I am a child of the 80’s, I wanted to love this season. It’s just a mess. I can’t follow any cohesive story and I guess this is all happening ON ONE NIGHT! Think about this from Episode 1, this is the longest night in the history of the world. They’ve arrived, hung out, watched movies, wandered around, taken showers, run from killers, killers have escaped emprisonment, people have been killed, people have gone for swims and had sex, friendships bonded over laying awake in bed hearing strange noises. I’m waiting for one of them to read War & Peace at some point and it will still be THE FIRST NIGHT. It’s so distracting to me I can hardly concentrate.

It makes more sense tho for it to be one night honestly they would all be long gone if it was days instead of over a night.

I think the Night Stalker is supposed to be possessed now that he's died and was resurrected.  Probably by Satan or Santa or something.

I may be wrong but isn't Birdie, guy who took off on the motorcycle, the real Rita and now Matthew Morrison's characters all dead? Seems like the only people coming back from the dead are Jingles, serial killer guy and the guy who clearly witnessed Margaret murdering the kids back in 1970.

And my guess is these three are resurrected because they have unresolved issues in the living world - Jingles didn't really kill all those kids years ago and so has to make that right, serial killer guy is linked to Montana and her crazy that the others don't know about and the younger guy witnessed Margaret's murdering the kids but he is stuck in purgatory where he can't put the pieces together.

Well I think it's safe to say that Margaret is full on, lock her up and throw away the key batshit fucking crazy. So I wouldn't take her word for anything. I doubt there are any campers still coming there if there even ever was.

I know Montana is clearly diabolical herself but as others had already speculated, I'm leaning towards Brooke having slept with the best man and lied about it. Doesn't mean that act was deserving of psycho husband killing the best man, her father and himself. But yeah, she totally slept with the best man and is lying about it because of her guilt over what happened at the wedding.

This will hold up much better when binged watched.

Including next weeks episode,

Spoiler

titled “red dawn”

this night be shown over about  3 hours in total without commercials.

If you spend an evening in watching it at once then it will feel in real time and more natural.

that is my only nitpick with that and what happened in general with Chet. My mother is a registered ER nurse with over 20 years experience (yeah it sucked cause I could never use the feeling sick to get out of school trick), so I do have a slightly better knowledge of medicine than the average person and I can say that in the real world Chet would be unconscious and in shock from the impalement and blood loss. And the shot is the last thing you should do. Yeah lets just inject the guy with adrenaline and watch him bleed out even faster.....

On the other hand wow Ryans really making sure we see Gus Kenworthys chest as much as possible. not that that's a bad thing.......

But add me to the surprise resurrection of Night Stalker. But that's the only thing that I'm watching for next week. There'd better be one hell of a twist coming cause we're only at the half way point next week kiddies...........

Poor chef Bertie and Trevor! My favorite characters are both dead! I felt sorry for Jingles after it was revealed he was tricked by Margaret. Wonder what will happen to him now. Montana's in real trouble now that her serial killer lover has been possessed/resurrected by Satan!

Given the short time span all these events have taken place in, it's unlikely the parents of those kids have even heard the news yet. I mean, does the media even know yet that Mr. Jingles has escaped from the asylum? They don't have internet in the 80s. Most people have gone to bed, so even if there was a special bulletin on the TV they probably wouldn't have seen it.

When Jonas (dead camper) recounted the murders, and we saw Margaret standing, bloody, and starring out the window, I pretty much knew she was the killer. Her talk with the Night Stalker was also an indication. Didn't see the weird "love" story between her and Jingles though. Maybe Jonas saves the day, somehow.

I'm really hoping that Trevor isn't dead. I loved his character and want more of him. Poor Birdie, but I'm glad she helped Xavier out of the oven. It's no secret I love me some Cody Fern. Now he can't be on the cover of TV Guide!

Anyways, I'm loving and having fun with season, seeing I had a shit ton of questions/stories that didn't get answered in Apocalypse.

When the big fight was going down, I thought to myself "Ramirez is the only person in this scene guaranteed not to be killed." And then he DID!

Parents won't know about Jingles' escape, but the police surely will, and the re-opening of the camp was in the local news. They'd have to put up roadblocks to warn people away, right? And come to the camp itself to look for Jingles?

Interesting.  I read her as terrified and trying to act normal so as to not provoke Jingles into attacking her.

Also, the idea of having an all male, midnight aerobics class just seems very contrived.  Though I was momentarily worried that we were going to have to watch Richard Ramirez aerobicizing with the class.  I already think having him as a character on the show is in poor taste, but I'm glad they didn't go even campier with him.

I have a feeling we're never going to learn more about the dead hitchhiker guy. There are always SO many dangling plots in this show that you could do spinoffs just to answer them. Remember Asylum's aliens? I think my expectations have been gradually decreasing every year so that I can now just find this stupid fun.

It has nothing to do with having a sense of humor. Hell I thought the line about never getting a TV guide cover was funny too. The problem is that the story makes no sense. Every season of this show has been over the top and kooky. Asylum was absolutely bonkers but it made sense. You could follow it and understand what was going on. There has to be some kind of internal logic and continuity. That's what's missing here.

But hey, anyone who's content with just random craziness and gore is welcome to it. As I said before, there's fine line between having a "ride" and being jerked around.

Actually, it does have everything to do with that, when the person to whom I was replying was wondering how some can find it "fun".

Also, I honestly don't get what doesn't make sense/what about the show is hard to follow.  Again, that is just my opinion...   I'm loving it, and I can't say that I have loved all of the seasons, that is for sure.

Did Cult have a supernatural element? I quit watching fairly early on when my tolerance for Sarah Paulson crying and simpering maxed out, but everything seemed to be the doing of gaslighting and brainwashing to that point, rather than the occult.

Actually no, IIRC, and that was one of my favorite seasons along with Murder House and Coven (which I did not love on its original run, but ended up loving upon a recent re-watch).

Yes, there was humor in all previous seasons, but the humor took a minor back seat to the horror genre. In this season, it is all stupid bad comedy. Homages to horror movies have been done before in other movies and other TV series. This season is just groan worthy. There is nothing scary or dark. The characters are jerks. There is nothing NEW inserted into the parodies. It is like a jigsaw puzzle of crap. I enjoyed Freak Show more.

By the way is Leslie Grossman related to Naomi Grossman?

Link to comment

Yeah I called Margaret as the possible killer pretty quickly, but poor Mr. Jingles! And poor Trevor, I guess thats what you get for trying to be an alright person! You know, this season isnt scary, but its certainly entertaining to me. Maybe its because I enjoy campy old school slasher flicks, but this is a fun ride for me, despite its lack of internal logic or story.

So there are just billions of killers running around! Like most seasons of AHS, we are getting so many plots and so many twists and characters that it makes my brain hurt. I am just going with it at this point. Now we have resurrections and multiple killers and crazy shrinks and ghosts and possibly the Devil, I swear I am just waiting for it to turn out that this is all taking place on a space ship!

Brook and Ramirez are both evil monsters, but Rebel Yell does seem like an awesome song to work out to.
