friendperidot December 21, 2018 Share December 21, 2018 I think I'm in love with Julius, "hey there!" He's been getting more and more lines through the season and he always delivers. And Tyne Daly is a treasure. I love her in anything. Benny continues to be adorable, I love little dogs, but have 2 big ones. I'm a Cocker Spaniel person living in a Pit Bull World. And I love that Murphy is bonding with him and buying him sweaters. I have a friend that is so adamantly in the "don't put clothing on animals" camp, but sometimes in really cold climates, short haired dogs like Benny can use a sweater. My Pit could probably use one on some days, but he'd never tolerate it, so he doesn't get to stay outside long on the very cold days. I also was on edge waiting for Avery to be safe, and so glad to see him home. I loved Corky's suit! And I loved Diana and Miles bonding and Pat recording it and Julius having it in slo-mo! 19 Link to comment

I think my favorite story was Phylis not wanting to throw a party but by the end finally realizing what the bat means to people. Corky getting thrown out by Pences SS was hilarious as well. Benny is Murphy & Avery’s disabled dog Murphy adopted & saved from euthanasia at an animal shelter about 3 episodes ago (I think), once she saw him as an example of the available dogs. After Murphy met him, after she was dragged along on Corky’s live shot marking National Dog Adoption Day, she realized that the “E” beside his shelter name (which was a number I forget now) on a list of available dogs meant he was scheduled to be put down very soon because he hadn’t been adopted by whatever the timeframe is in an animal shelter between arrival & euthanasia due to overcrowding or whatever. That got to her & she took the dog home. She mentioned Avery had been wanting a dog since he was a kid (but, she may have added, Murphy wasn’t sure if he’d be responsible for it or she’d end up taking care of it, so she never got him 1). Benny (Bennie?) is paralyzed (in real life too) & wears a “doggie wheelchair” on his lower half, which apparently reminded Avery of Ben-Hur sitting in his chariot & was the genesis of his current name. 7 Link to comment

UYI December 21, 2018 Share December 21, 2018 I like that there was a sense of both finality and "life goes on" to this episode, so even if it doesn't come back, I don't really feel cheated on closure or anything like that at all (the idea of Corky's last scene ever being escorted out by the Secret Service after attempting to interview Mike Pence, screaming out loud about women's rights, kind of tickles me--she's come so far!) . Still, I DO hope there's some chance of it returning for a second season (and now I'm curious about where Miles and Diana might go!). Either way, though, while not perfect, I'd overall call this a success. And to all the haters out there who wanted this show to fail (I know, let me have this for second), I'll just use this line from one of my favorite country stars: 13 Link to comment

willowk December 21, 2018 Share December 21, 2018 Loved Murphy pestering everyone, especially Frank, as she was so worried about Avery. And liked how they mixed the danger of Afghanistan with the quirky -like there being a Starbucks in Kabul (there likely is!). The ending was a little anticlimatic as I'd seen the preview with Avery being on the couch. But was still a nice way to end the episode. Why keep watching and commenting week after week? There are thousands of channels nowadays. I've commented on this before but I don't think anyone is "hate watching" this show. There are viewers like myself who enjoyed the original run of the series and were happy to tune into this reboot and revisit these characters but found it lacking. Some episodes were better than others and there's always hope it will get better so we keep watching for that reason and for sentimental reasons. Doesn't mean we can't criticize its shortcomings. I think the ratings speak for themselves and I don't think the show will be renewed. The fact that it was the only new episode to air in the CBS Thursday lineup this week strongly suggests the network is burning off what's left in the can. 3 Link to comment

magicdog December 21, 2018 Share December 21, 2018 So would I. I know 13 eps isn’t much time to work on certain storylines but I think TPTB blew a few opportunities here. I kept watching hoping to see Avery’s sperm donor appear (and the emotional fireworks that might have followed) and seeing Miller again would have been nice. In fact I wouldn’t mind a storyline in which he and Corky start dating. I remember way back in the day they were attracted to one another (even though Corky was married at the time) and I thought there was good chemistry there. Instead, all we got were Trump jokes. 1 Link to comment

The jokes weren't always very funny, but I don't think that was their total point. They really, really dislike what is going on in our country and they wanted to say something about it.
