Damn. Thank God for that cameraman. For once someone didn't follow that reality rule about not interfering. I loved seeing how everyone kept checking up on Ashton. Very sweet. And when he refused his tip? I cried. He's a very stand-up guy. Such a difference from when Caroline had HER foot issues. I did roll my eyes when Laura complained to Ashton that HER feet hurt. Bitch, please. Ross may not be perfect, but he continues to prove he's a much better Bosun than Chandler. He knows when to let things go. He's capable of apologizing. And I like Tyler as well. He's very humble. He doesn't think just because he's been on sailboats he knows everything about ALL boats. Useless Rylee slowly reacts and says man overboard oh so quietly. Cameraman drops camera and uncleats the line to save Ashton while Rylee basically just stands there. Ashton was closer to the tender and boards that. At that point the water was too rough to dock the tender to the yacht. If you watch Deadliest Catch you know how serious it is to get pulled overboard if you get caught in a line. 38 Link to comment

I find it hard to believe that anyone would take a third stew position after being first. It's a crappy job, but you are still getting equal tips, so shut up and do your job. The guests have every right to complain about the food. Chicken does seem kind of lame for what they are paying, even if it tastes good. Chef Unicorn continues his slide into annoying pomposity. Give the people what they want! Nobody cares if YOU like surprises. Then of course it "blows over his head" while still whining about it. Popular Post VagueDisclaimer December 12, 2018 Popular Post Share December 12, 2018 I’m going to defer to Captain Lee’s seriousness and everyone else’s sobering responses to what Ashton went through and not question a thing about how potentially awful it all could’ve been. It was scary to watch, Ashton said he was preparing to lose his foot and bleed out, so yeah, not questioning a thing. I’m so glad that Brent the Camera Guy was there. I’m disappointed that not one of the deck crew was on things as quickly. I appreciated that Lee didn’t rest on chewing them out, though, and did a play-by-play with video footage. Really seeing it, I’d hope that it taught everyone something. And when I say everyone, I mean Rhylee, because everyone else seemed to get it and Rhylee was back to her fight to be right, as opposed to actually taking a breath and hearing ANYTHING. So far, Tyler is playing the best kind of newbie. He’s not resting on prior experience, he gets that this is a whole other situation, keeping his head down and listening and learning. Good on him. On the other hand, Laura is still the worst kind of newbie, constantly chattering and resting on that prior experience and disrespecting her fellow crew. She’s also full of excuses. She did a poor turn down service, because she hasn’t been a third stew in so long. Hm. Then how does Kate know what’s required? If you’re the boss, you need to know and oversee the responsibilities of those under you. So, if Laura was a Chief, she’d still know. Oh wait, she did a poor job, because “I thought we weren’t caring. I thought that was the vibe.” Which is just back to her blaming a lumpy napkin for dropping the glasses. Laura takes no responsibility. Laura wakes Kate up so she can do Yoga instead of the job she needs to do for more than the 2 guests who want t work out. Laura has the audacity to say the reason Ashton got hurt was because of the “cutting corners” happening on the boat TO ASHTON. I’m very cool with tossing Laura overboard. On a positive note, Ashton was injured, in a lot of pain, faced his own mortality, and that barely squashed his spirit. He was flirting with the Dr who came to check on him, flirting with Laura later, and back on deck the next day with barely a complaint. I loved everyone doting on him, all of their caring came off very genuine, and the joy that they all showed seeing Ashton back to work was contagious. Ashton trying to hand off his tip after thanking the crew for taking care of him made me tear up a bit, I admit. I also admit I could not help comparing Ashton’s behavior and attitude with Caroline’s. Even off the boat, she’s still comes up lacking. 71 Link to comment

Chandler had his issues, but I never thought the Chandler/Rhylee problem was his fault. She has an attitude that is unrelenting, and she is absolutely not suited for a job where respect for superiors is not only required, but also necessary in the name of safety. I just caught up on WWHL episodes, and saw the one with her from last week. She apparently thinks she's adorable - all grinning and giggling - but IMO she came across as ridiculous and not too bright. She commented on everything, talked over everyone, and I found myself telling her to shut up (yes, out loud!) I would love to see her sent packing. She doesn't have the temperament to be doing this type of work, and she's nowhere near as charming as she thinks she is. 27 Link to comment

queenjen December 12, 2018 Share December 12, 2018 Can't believe I had TEARS watching Ashton. I froze it as he went over and Rhylee's foot came so close to also getting caught in the line. Take a look. I agree with Cpt Lee (i mean what choice do you have? He's The Man) that she could have reiterated 'Man Overboard ' but I was more impressed with her calm. That said, it was the camera guy that cut the line. Laura is a mouthy little toerag, it's true. But I thought she was more toned down from the nervous talking new girl from last week. I'm not entirely sure the dirty towels on the floor were believable. The lack of water by the beds, yes. But towels on the floor? Kate didn't say anything to her about those either so I wonder. I'm wondering too if Kate's demand that 'she goes or i go' is payback for Cpt Lee asking Kate to explain herself after Caroline's 'allegations '. Kate asserting her authorita, as Cartman would say. She had the same expression on her face : usual resting bitch face with a large splash of mutinous. I love how Josiah handles the skeevy kitchen unicorn. It's a personal peeve with me when a simple question is asked 'so it's a mixture of cakes?' And it's met with passive aggressive obfuscation. Josiah's happy 'fck you' was perfect, humorous and not nasty. Adrian needs to get over himself. Ashton may be a snake in his opinion, Adrian is a white ant. 10 Link to comment

Popular Post MrsWitter December 12, 2018 Popular Post Share December 12, 2018 (edited) Yeah Brent! I’m so happy Ashton is ok and I was really touched by the way the crew wanted to take care of him and his offer to give up his tip. He’s a horndog, but he seems like a really sweet guy and it’s clear the rest of the crew seems to respect him and genuinely like him. I honestly tried to like Rhylee. But, as many here are saying, she really needs to shut up and follow orders. I’m not a big fan of strict work environments myself (so I get that), but I also don’t work on a boat where not following orders can mean someone can die or get seriously injured. There are career paths that offer more autonomy and maybe she should seek them out. Girl can never just back down in the moment. She has to have her say immediately- before she’s calmed down, when there’s still urgent work to be done and in front of guests. I was really impressed with how Ross handled her temper tantrum- he apologized, gave her a hug, calmed her down, and moved on. Even though Rhylee was wrong, Ross decided to just suck it up for the good of the boat/crew. On WWHL, Ashton was asked who he would never want to work with again and he said Rhylee. With all the crappy people on board this season, it’s pretty telling that she was the worst in his estimation. And Laura... I guess with the departure of Chandler and Caroline, the casting people decided we needed someone else to really, really dislike. Caroline is crazier, but Laura is actually a more detestable person IMO. ETA: Forgot to mention the guests and their aversion to “poor people food.” I don’t eat meat myself so I’m not incredibly knowledgeable about the cost differences, but my SO pointed out that Red Lobster is always advertising those “all you can eat” shrimp deals. So I imagine shrimp can be pretty cheap too or really expensive, dependent on the source and how it’s prepared (but they were super happy with shrimp). They are the perfect example of the old adage: “Money shouts. Wealth whispers.” Edited December 12, 2018 by MrsWitter Too many thoughts... 28 Link to comment
bref December 12, 2018 Share December 12, 2018 I can't stand Jenny McCarthy, so I'm gonna have to take a hard pass on WWHL tonight. I would be ever so grateful for any reports of Ashton's comments. :) 18 Link to comment

OMG him talking about the FORTY-FIVE MINUTE tender ride, and how he was just going through every emotion and how he wasn't sure he'd totally dealt with the trauma. What a sweet soul. I'm crying watching this. Thank God for Brent. People with cool heads who can act in a crisis are a blessing. Hero. Ashton is amazing on just about every count. I hope the camera guy is at the reunion. 2 hours ago, breezy424 said: From what I and Mr. Breezy could see (he's a sailor) the black line wrapped around Ashton's ankle and pulled him in. @BREEZY424, I know Captain Lee said the waters were too rough to bring the tinder in, but man. Seems he could have stopped the boat and figured out a way to get Ashton. Any thoughts on this? 4 Link to comment
Honey December 12, 2018 Share December 12, 2018 At first I thought it was the black line that pulled him, but it was really the white line. It's very, very hard to see, but along with him holding it, and it being attached to the tender, it's also wrapped around his ankle. The black line wouldn't pull him in because it was attached to the yacht and not the tender. Why the fuck didn't the Captain stop forward motion of the boat as soon as he heard "man overboard". That would have released the tension on the white line that was pulling Ashton in 2 different directions. 5 Link to comment
ChristmasJones December 12, 2018 Share December 12, 2018 Did anyone else think of the movie The Perfect Storm after this episode? Or just me..... 1 Link to comment
