Why is Addie wearing all of that makeup? Leah really needs to stop with that. When I was a little girl, we played with makeup a tiny bit, but never left the house with that shit or even took photos, although those were different times, but even today  my mother would not allow an elementary school-aged child to leave home made up.

Also, the eyeliner is on somewhat haphazardly. That could indicate Addie applied it herself...or perhaps just rubbed it off over the course of the evening. Not sure what is more disturbing- Leah or another adult applying liquid eyeliner on a 5 year old or said 5 year old having the wherewithal to apply it herself.

I mean, I admit to going to town in 1992 with my mom's throwback blue eye shadow, but I was nine. Liquid eyeliner wasn't an option for me until I could drive.

I just looked up her age and she’s five years old and in school. I don’t want to pull up the video for you guys but the kid is standing up covered in suds and smiling while Leah jokes about bathing her. I know between Leah and Addy they are just having mother daughter fun but to old perverted men (or sex traffickers) this isn’t innocent.

Smartphones have made it easy for predators to get their eyes on children. 😔

Sorry, I’m just sensitive lately after hearing about the large bust that went down in Michigan with all of the kidnapped children taken for sex trafficking and that damn lifetime movie I watched “the bride he bought online” got me paranoid.

Not to mention Jayme Closs, who was spotted by a pervert who became obsessed with her when she was simply getting on the school bus at the bus stop. That happened just up the highway from me. I’m a grown woman who already took precautions for myself and that has made me change things even more to protect myself. I don’t even know what I’d be doing if I had children! Surely not posting naked pictures, or ANY pictures, of them for millions of people to see and do with what they want.

On 1/21/2019 at 7:32 AM, Calm81 said:

Also, I stop taking bath photos once the kid reaches three/four for my own personal preference. Smartphones are super scary, you’re absolutely right, what if the phone was loss or stolen? Or what happens when we take the phone in to get repaired by the Service Technician who has access to the phone? 😬

I think parents have even gotten themselves into trouble by (seemingly) innocently having bathing pictures of their own children on their devices. Unless the kid is very young it’s actually considered child pornography. Also, it’s relatively easy to hack into iCloud so nothing is truly safe.

I think people (especially younger generations) are just used to filming/documenting EVERY FREAKING MOMENT of their lives. They don't see the issue. It's just what you do.

But, yes - 1000% perverted, old men are on Snapchat.

This. And peverted younger men (the guy who kidnapped Jayme is only 21, he’s not the stereotype of a child predator, which is a good reminder that anyone can be suspect underneath it all) and even women. Not all perverts are old, creepy men.

I’m basically 100% sure Addie’s naked image is already up on file sharing sites and other things child predators use to share these kinds of pictures with each other. My skin is crawling. Leah is beyond stupid for posting that. There’s an alert when someone screenshots or records on Snapchat but that doesn’t stop anyone from doing it, all she could do is block people she noticed screenshot it but with millions of followers she probably doesn’t even notice the alerts. Plus, by then the damage is already done. I thought Leah was getting a bit smarter. Ugh.

Can someone please explain Leah's 5am wake up? Because I just don't get it.  Wth does she live? Way out in the hollers? Do they only have schools in the big cities? Why, when you could live anywhere you choose, not choose to live close to school and avoid all that? I lived 3 blocks from my kids school for just that reason.

There are many schools in rural counties. For example where I live the schools are out in the country because our county does not have a large town. Plus there is more land in the country. So many of us are 30 minutes from at least one of the schools. Our buses start pickup at 630 am on some routes. So though hers is really early it is not uncommon as you wouldn’t always be able to live near every school they will attend as they grow up. Or perhaps there are only so many homes to choose close by and that isn’t convenient to anything else.

Dance/cheer/stage makeup usually looks like this close up. As a theatre kid I saw lots of makeup like this during performance. It’s how Leah has them made up OUTSIDE of performance that worries me. Namely Addie and the eye liner.

Does Leah ever post videos of Gracie performing? Or is it just the still shots of her costume/makeup. If she likes it cheer us good for her, it’s an intense sport.

Does Ali have any activities she can enjoy?

I grew up doing community theatre; so I understand the concept of stage makeup. I NEVER had eyelashes like that. Those are insane.

Also, I'm not sure I get the concept of stage makeup with cheerleading. When acting, you want the crowd to be able to see the expressions on your face from far away. Is that really so important when cheering? Isn't more about the routine and what they're doing with their bodies?

Either way, I still maintain that that's super heavy, even as far as stage makeup goes.

Why would she want to make her child look like a hooker? Totally agree that it's the physical action and routine, not their faces, which undoubtedly are smiling. And "Famous" is on the uniforms?

Never mind the makeup, what the fuck is up with the teased hair??? Is that a hairpiece?  The height of that bubble is longer than Gracie's head. That does not look right.

It don't make no damn sense.

Those are eyelashes? I thought that was eyeshadow!!! 🥴 New glasses prescription for ME.

Stage makeup with cheerleading is like stage makeup with dance- under the performance lights it’s hard to see the faces of the performers.

@politichick haven’t you heard “the higher the hair the closer to god”?

But I think life slapped Leah in the face and knocked the Mean Girl "skinny cheerleader/blonde queen of West Virginia" right out of her: Ali's medical condition, divorces, failed attempts at college/careers/MLMs, etc.  Leah is really the most benign of the bunch, whereas Chelsea is the most endearing.  Kail and Jenelle are still pretty much infuriating (obviously more so Jenlle).

And the bacon.  I think it was the bacon that knocked the most sense into her.

I wouldn't be surprised if that hairstyle was mandated by the cheer coach.  From what I've seen/heard/read elsewhere they're pretty strict with how the girls are made up and usually have to look similar.

Now not really sure why you would want hair that high when you're dancing and tumbling around.... seems like it would get in the way at some point or just plain feel weird and throw you off.

I get the concept, but do you really need to see the facial expressions with cheerleaders? I'd think the judges are generally watching their bodies.

In these types of cheer competitions, facial expressions seem to be part of it. I don't know why. I actually think the makeup is okay this go round--false eyelashes do tend to look like that close up but they help SO MUCH from a distance--but the hair is just weird.

But we've seen images of the whole team, and the makeup/hair is clearly dictated by the coach. I find it all strange and kind of gross, but I'm not going to put the blame on Leah. And the physical skills Grace is learning are both fun and transferable to a bunch of kinds of activities.

My problem with the makeup is that it’s on Aleeeeah in particular, who I already feel is the most “in danger” of “growing up too quickly” as it is because of her personality and other things. I fully acknowledge it’s a double standard because if it was one of the other kids, such as Aubree or Leah Shirley, I wouldn’t be nearly as alarmed and it would seem more harmless. I think the culture of the area they live in (Leah was on BC and apparently having sex at 13, many people have kids at very young ages and live “like adults” a lot earlier than other parts of the country, not giving themselves time to fully form as adults themselves) coupled with Leah’s examples in regard to men probably make Aleeeeah extra vulnerable. I fully recognize my hypocrisy but it’s how I feel.

Agreed, Gracie seems like the most precocious of Leah's girls.  However, I can see Addie being a little hellcat...and she sort of has daddy issues, so that's kind of a recipe for disaster.  Besides, they're both pretty, which does *not* help the situation!

@teapot Yes! I wanted to mention Addie too but I forgot. I think if any of the kids are going to follow in their parents footsteps to teen parenthood and having to grow up too quickly it will be one or both of those two. And they most likely won’t have the MTV money to make it easier...I wonder a lot about what the kids are learning about money and careers from their parents..or NOT learning. Do they think they’ll be fine with nice houses and cars and vacations without going to work 5 or more days a week like most people? Or having any education?

I don’t think you’re being a hypocrite. Nothing exists in a vacuum. If we saw Leah encouraging her daughters to do all types of activities, SHE didn’t have a history of being man crazy and moving guys in (like Jeremy and then T. R. Dues), some performance makeup wouldn’t cause a second glance.

(Bolding mine)Interesting you say that- I always heard the narrative that you had to watch “ugly” or “fat” girls more because they would be more desperate for male attention and “pretty popular girls” were less likely to “put out”. The entire notion makes me want to gag (especially the fat girls are easy trope); and its so wrapped up in Heteronormativity and patriarchy but that’s the social milieu in which these girls are being raised.

yup!  I have a relative that doesn't get much recognition for her intelligence or personality, it's "of COURSE she got the job/loan/boyfriend she wanted, LOOK AT HER!"  I feel like that is the message that Leah's girls might hear.  It could go either way;  hopefully they'll see it as power, that they don't have to do what anyone tells them (these messages are just so fucked up, aren't they?) but they could just vibe on all of the attention and think that's all they are.

Wow, interesting point, thanks for bringing it up.  Made me think a bit....and not about all of this boring paperwork on my desk!!!

I feel like I have been on both sides of it. I've been on dates with some pretty sexist men who have the "don't worry your pretty little head about it" mentality. Anytime I brought up intellectual conversations with them, they shut them down, like it was a joke to talk about those things with me. Then, on the other side, I can't count the number of times growing up when I heard, "your sister is sooooo pretty! You don't look anything alike." People always referred to me as the smart one, and her as the pretty one. So I feel like whichever side you are on, sucks. It's just so much better when people treat you like a person, regardless of looks! Sadly, this type of stereotyping happens a lot.

I just can't imagine growing up in Leah's world, though. Being reduced to your looks is worse than being the "smart one," because while not being "pretty" stings, being the smart one implies that you are going somewhere in your future. I can't imagine feeling like all I had to offer was my looks, and that's the message that I feel not just Leah, but the whole holler, sends.

And I would not worry as much about the makeup if Leah didn't allow them to wear it in real life also. I'd rather see a heavy face of stage makeup on a kid any day than an adult's regular amount of makeup on a kid at McDonald's.

"And my name ain't SIS."

Now I'm trying to think if I saw Leah and her new man together if I would think they were a couple or father and daughter.

I have also been noting a lack of Miranda. I'm proud of Miranda for staying off the show. After Leah was telling her that Corey was trying to hook up with Leah on one of the reunions. I wouldn't stand for that shit either. Leah just throws bombs out there because what does she have to lose? And then she acts all dumb and clueless...like when she stayed on stage during the fight last year. Didn't she do that?
