Jeopardy! Season 35 (2018-2019)

Off the top of my head, I don't remember seeing Toothbrush or Mystery Author, since the new season started.

I'm here, my friends, to whom I plan to dedicate my next book. I skipped the repeats. Even if I had wanted to see them, Mr. Author said no way. Last week when REAL J! came back, I was the guest author at a writers conference in Denver - Go Broncos! But I managed to sneak away and catch Coloradan Kyle and I like him. I don't adore all of Steinbeck, but I love East of Eden, and have read it a bazillion times (Mr. Author: "I've told you a million times not to exaggerate!") so that was an instaget. If we're counting FJs, I got 2, 3, 4 and 6. That's kind of, sort of unusual for moi.

One of my mantras: "Man, unlike any other thing organic or inorganic in the universe, grows beyond his work, walks up the stairs of his concepts, emerges ahead of his accomplishments." John Steinbeck (The Grapes of Wrath)

Oh, and my new book, CIRQUE, is getting great reviews, so I'm chuffed.

I would have could have gotten FJ if the clue was about a movie. I know East of Eden as a vehicle for James Dean. It didn't even register that the movie was taken from a book. And the movie was 1955 while the book was 1952. That should count as a close-but-no-cigar thing. Shouldn't it? No? Alrighty then.

East of Eden popped into my head instantly. Then I hesitated, because I've never read it and I wasn't 100% sure of the plot. I've only read any Steinbeck at all because I was forced to as a school assignment. Not a fave. But I couldn't think of anything else. The only TS I got was Patton. But at least I knew it was wrong when he was guessed for the DD. It had to be a WWI guy, but I couldn't make Pershing come to mind.

I couldn't come up with the answer for yesterday's FJ.

I am looking forward to the all-star games.  I knew who some of the some of the team captains, not all.  I don't think I recognize any of the players to be drafted.  Anyway, I think it might be fun.  And if it's not, it's only 5 hours out of my life, right?

FJ! was an insta-get for me although I've never read the book or seen the movie.  Bummer that the female contestant missed the DD of "Blackjack Pershing."  Her answer of Patton was just........too early.

DOH! I never got the JudyObscure pun until you said this.

I still remember watching Rich Man, Poor Man-Book ll in high school, while I was on the phone with my best friend.

I don't remember if I saw Book II, but I saw the first one with Nick Nolte and Peter Strauss. I know the miniseries was based on a book, but was the book based on East of Eden? If not, why do I associate East of Eden with Rich Man Poor Man?

FJ was an instaget. Alex didn't even need to finish reading the clue. I was shocked two contestants missed it, but after reading comments here I guess it's not a book familiar to everyone.

I got dust storms and owe my first knowledge of them to the TV series Carnivale

I also got The Supremes.

Wile E. Coyote is my spirit animal.

I wonder if they would have accepted just "the coyote".  I think they should have (had any contestant written it) but Alex remarked about the (incorrect) spelling Wiley Coyote, so he seemed kind of sticklery.

Congrats, Kyle!  He qualifies for the ToC, if there is one - or does that goofy All "Stars" Tournament replace it?  OMG!  Emily's askew collar was driving me insane!  But she did rate a GFY.  DRINK!  ?

I got Hershey and chess.

I was so clueless for FJ I actually wrote down WTF for my answer.  I never would have associated any of those things with Wile E. Coyote.

Iron Birdseed?  And probably a giant magnet from Acme!

But merely seeing a coyote is no cause for alarm, says the local sheriff.  But do call 911 if you see any of the following:

Coyote carrying a box marked "Acme."

Coyote dropping anvil from a hot air balloon.

Coyote posting signs marked "Detour" or "Free Bird Seed."

Coyote in possession of a giant magnet.

Coyote wearing roller skates with rockets attached.

Coyote launching self from a giant crossbow....

I liked Alex's suit and tie combo tonight. That light gray suit with the muted orange tie really looked good on him. He always looks pretty sharp, but this was an especially nice look.

Another Toddler Jeopardy FJ. Although I guess it could have been another "easy if you know it" one.

I didn't get Dolly Madison, but it cool to see that there was an actual photograph of her.

Easy peasy for kids who grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons. But it could be Before Your Time for some of you young'uns so all is forgiven if you missed it. I always laughed when the shipment box arrived from Acme.

I was slightly disappointed when I saw my first road runner in the wild, IRL.

I thought his suit was more of a light tan!  Like the biggest scandal of the previous presidency, Tan-Suit-Gate!  But yeah, he looked good.

I knew Dolley; there's been at least one other photo of her on Jeopardy.

Roadrunners' top speed is about 20 MPH.

Coyotes can reach a speed of 43 MPH.

Woo hoo!  An FJ I actually knew!  And can spell correctly!  Congrats to Kyle for another win!  Saturday morning cartoons help with other things besides the dreaded opera category!  LOL

Emily's askew collar bugged me, too, @CarpeDiem54.  And Raymond was a leaner, so I'm extra glad Kyle won again.

I also got Hershey (how could they miss that?  Unless they don't know that Lancaster and Hershey are in PA), schoolteacher (not too many other career options available for women back then), and Thebes.  I'm embarrassed to admit that I missed Italy for the Etruscans clue.  Boo, hiss.

I got Hershey and teacher. Oh, and after mentioning in a previous post that Tulane was just about the only university whose location I know, I was excited to see it as an answer tonight!

FJ was easy. I loved the Road Runner cartoons.

I thought Raymond looked a bit like Johnny Galecki, particularly around the eyes.

I think he looks best in the lighter colors in general. Did anyone notice he's shaved off part of his beard? Now it's closer to a goatee than a full beard.

It wasn't before my time, but I didn't particularly care for Wile E Coyote and the Roadrunner. So I didn't get FJ.

I knew FJ, and I got the ts, Hershey.  I few years ago, I went to Hershey, PA.  Took the trolley tour, and visited Hershey's Chocolate World.  It was a fun day and the Kiss shaped street lamps are too cute.  On the trolley tour, they even passed out free chocolate samples!  Now I don't think American chocolate is the best, but it's still pretty good!

I immediately didn't like Raymond because he was a leaner, but warmed up to him until he said his favorite baseball team is the Cubs.  Boo hiss.  I'm from the south side of Chicago.  I thought of Hershey but thought it was too obvious.

Because it keeps being shown over and over on specials and reruns.

For anyone having J6 problems, today jeopardy.com actually let me see the quiz for today, not Monday! So yeay! Then it put the answers on the right, like Opus showed in his/her screen grab! Double yeay yeay! Then halfway through the Double Jeopardy round, clues/answers kept repeating over themselves before I could read/answer, then the screen froze and that was the end of that.

I guess some progress is better than none. I guess.

I really think this calls for a BMS, proser. Say what? skinless body exhibition? Whaa?

I'm pretty sure it was the BodyWorlds exhibit which was very popular in 2008, and which Alex had been to see.  Me, I was pretty grossed out by the ads for it, so I wouldn't really have had any to add to the conversation.

If I had been in the 2nd or 3rd game filmed on my day, I'd have won.  I got both final Jeopardy questions when none of the contestants involved did.  But noooo, I had to get game 4 and the champ who was faster on the buzzer.

OMG, it's actually been ten years!  I'm getting old.

I didn't see yesterday's (Tuesday's) game, but Alex shaving is at the top of jeopardy.com. It gives one the option of clicking on the video, I guess it is. I did not partake.

I can't even wrap my brain around someone caring if I shave or not, then me posting a video of it online for everyone to see when I (partially) do. But I guess that earns Trebek a GOOD FOR YOU.

It's Wednesday and jeopardy.com is stuck on Monday again for the NYT FJ and J6. WTH show. Even I can do a website better than the IT jackasses that work for this show. I guess being a brainiac doesn't apply to the hired help, just contestants.

ETA: I hate the pretentious goatee and soul patch even more than I hate the lazy-ass full beard.

So who is the Egyptian Sun God, Aton/Aten or my answer of Ra? I was taught Ra in my Egyptology classes. Doing an online search said it is/was/could be both.

Depends on the pharaoh.  Akhenaten, who became a monotheist, replaced the worship of Ra with the worship of Aten, but after his death, the Egyptians went right back to worshipping Ra.  Ra, however, did not fit the category.

Congrats again to Kyle!  Middle guy was okay, but end woman's giggling like a five-year-old started wearing on me after the first incident, during the interview.  Fortunately, she toned it down during DJ.

I are an idiot, and did not get FJ -- again.  And I have lived in Virginia almost all my whole life!  I know history is not my strong suit, but you'd think I'd know something about famous Virginians!  And this is why I won't try out for Jeopardy!  Ever.  Not because I'm afraid I'd be bleeped.

Ahem.  I may not know anything about history, but I apparently do know wine -- Rothschild was an easy TS for me.  I also got clang clang clang, La Scala, and Joseph Priestly.

So far for the week, I'm 1/3.  Bring on more cartoon characters!  LOL

Congrats to Kyle.  I was terrified Jordan the Giggler might win.

Yes, @Browncoat, Kyle got a GFY during the game. So there were three - drink, drink, drink!  ???  I'm amazed that his mother drove from Colorado to Sydney for the 2000 Olympics.  Oh, wait...maybe he meant the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics.  Details matter.

I got Rothchild, "clang, clang, clang", and Order of the Garter (DD).

Of course, I was clueless for FJ.  Apparently, I only can answer them on Mondays.

I liked the beard, but I'm giving the pornstache a big NO.

I did better on the TSs today - got Reddit, Rothschild, clang clang clang, and the Order of the Garter. Which made up for my total whiff on FJ. I went for John Adams. Or maybe Sam Adams. It was the reference to Boston in the clue that threw me off - Patrick Henry was from Virginia and the speech was to the Virginia Convention. At least I wasn't the only one thrown off by that, as even the contestants went for Paul Revere.

Yes, Alex commented that he was off to a slow start at the first commercial break. I was afraid that would jinx him, but I'm glad he held off his opponents to win again. I didn't get Rothschild, but I got the others plus Order of the Garter. I got FJ but forgot that Patrick Henry was a Virginian; otherwise the reference to Boston would have thrown me. [A little] ignorance is bliss, I guess.

I'm the opposite; I didn't care for the beard but I like the retro 'stache. I'm wondering, though, whether the whole "vote beard or no beard" thing was for real. I thought votes were trending in favor of the beard.

I considered him, too, while I was running over Revolutionary figures who might care about Boston in my mind. Although I suppose the "plains of Boston" bit probably should have clued me in that it wasn't someone from there. Massachusetts is pretty hilly.
