Are they on a dirt road?  Or are they in a campground?  They’ve got to have a place to hook up, especially sewer.

I actually don't know where they are. They may not be hooked-up anywhere. They may be relying on tanks - a tank of water for cooking and bathing and a waste tank they empty at a waste station.

The fact that the name of their organization name is almost similar to an already legit organization is shady AF. They could've chosen any other name, but they didn't.

What? You mean their carefully prepared-in-advance say-nothing statement of "explanation" doesn't totally clear things up for you?  😁

You'd think they'd realize the mere existence of that ready-made non-explanation explanation proves they know they're doing something shady. But I guess those who breathlessly love them never pay attention to signs like that....or else they would've stopped breathlessly loving them a long time ago.

I do wonder whether they all realize they're committing pure shady grift or whether some of them -- like Joy -- believe in their righteousness despite how obvious the shadiness is ...

My daughter is an EMT working for an EMS service. She told us about 5 days she ago they are sending crews to the Hurricane area per official requests (I didn’t ask her exactly who). She volunteered but hasn’t been assigned to leave yet. Hopefully the Dugs and Dugs adjacent are wanted and helpful.

It's been reported that the national news was praising their efforts in assisting the coast guard with rescue operations.  So it seems that they are being helpful and not a hindrance.

I can see Austin being helpful during this crisis.  He seems like the type to remember his training and check his ego at the door.

I think it could go either way.

Some who report the national news have a tendency to take people at their own valuation, especially when it creates a feel-good story. A bunch of young "from the heartland!" super-Christian "celebrities" -- that includes pilots! always thrillingly romantic -- saying they're a big help, for example. I covered national news for niche publications for many years and I witnessed that tendency firsthand among the big-outlet reporters and electronic-media reporters, especially.

In this situation, checking out the Dugg/Bates claims would have been quite hard to do -- so an alarming number of "reporters" would have just been happy to get some celebs to talk to (eyeballs! they're celebs and maybe it'll go viral!) and let them make their claims without any corroboration.

At the same time, it's possible that at least some of them are actually trying and succeeding at being somewhat helpful. John David, Jana and Austin, for example, all seem to have a work ethic and a certain level of basic competence and wouldn't ever pose looking like the Bates boys. I can imagine those three asking around about exactly what needed to be done that they could accomplish and following the instructions of somebody who knows the score to accomplish it.

My guess is it's probably a little of both...

(Not at all on board with their going, however. Surely they've heard the super-reasonable injunctions against going into such situations on your own that come from literally everyone who knows anything about it. I guess they listen to nobody but Jesus, though. And I know they'll all preach to anybody they come across, which really has no place here.)

I agree. He doesn't seem like a poser when it comes to situations like this. I might not agree with a lot he does but he strikes me as a hard worker.

Welp! Joy blocked me after I responded to this person. I wrote that MedicCorps was not a non-profit and it was strange they chose a very similar name to the non-profit charity Medicorps. She also deleted another comment from yesterday of another woman saying the same.

Well that doesn't make it look shady at all.

Heavens, no! ha

They obviously knew that the name-similarity accusation was going to come up. Because otherwise they wouldn't have had their response pointedly not mentioning it at the ready for posting by one and all.

I'm guessing the architects of this scheme got together and planned the response that everyone should give --- publishing the little boilerplate non-denial denial and then executing a quick block of anybody who asked about it.

But I really wonder whether they all just blandly go along with this stuff -- because obviously they're all charged with carrying out that response. .... Do some of them feel qualms but then just go along anyway? Or are they all so dumb or brainwashed or crooked or some combination of the three that they believe everything they do is perfectly godly and well justified?

I'm really curious about where the new generation falls as they become full-fledged adults being in the middle of this stuff happening.

I think that after a lifetime of being told that they are victims - persecuted for their deep Christian beliefs, that they honestly believe that they are doing good.

I'm sure they believe that they're doing good. But it seems to me that they only want to do good their way. They could donate or volunteer to legitimate organizations like the Red Cross, but I don't think they want to do that because those organizations are not all about Jesus and they would have to do what they were told to.

I hope they checked their insurance policies before they headed off into the danger zone.  Without the legal covering of a legitimate agency, if anything goes wrong, they are on their own.  Or, worse, they will become more people who need to be rescued rather than the brave rescuers they perceive themselves to be.

The entire clan is going to get maximum mileage out of this on social media, which, in my opinion, shows their intentions are far from sincerely wanting to help people in need.  Sure, they may incidentally give some genuine aid, but their main motive is publicity and more publicity.  I know some of their rabid fans will donate, but I hope they don't even get enough to cover their fuel costs, much less lodging and food.

I think you're absolutely right that they only see one way of doing things -- we see it in everything that they do.

They KNOW things. They GIVE advice. They SHARE THE TRUTH about Jesus. They have zero interest in asking, or experiencing, or learning, or trying, or experimenting, or questioning. If they don't already know it and there's no Wisdom booklet that covers it, it's not worth knowing.

They could have tried to learn what people need or want after a natural disaster, and tried to help within the parameters of an organization like the Red Cross, but why would they? They KNOW everything because they went to ALERT and read Wisdom booklets.

Are they collecting $ for themselves?

Their mission statement seems to indicate that they want to recoup expenses, at minimum. It doesn't look like they actually BROUGHT anything that might be of use. And who are these "doctors" they brought? Fedosky? JD  must have flown in the 10 seater to bring in so-called experts (that haven't been seen in their group shots.

I think some major exaggeration has gone on with their sales pitch.

Yep, aside from the fact that they don't have registration as a charity and are therefore not accountable for how they spend the money that is given to them. their website is deliberately vague as to exactly what that money would be spent on.  Based on the fact that they took at least 3 planes and a couple dozen 'specialists', I expect that this is just another missioncation boondoggle and all of the money will go to the participants to fund their trip.  Maybe they got a carton of Bible tracts to hand out from the Rodriguii. but there is no indication that they took any medical or emergency supplies for the people of the Bahamas with them.  Surely we'd have had Instagram photos of them unloading bottled water from their craft or bandaging somebody's cut finger if they'd actually come prepared to assist anyone.

On reddit a poster said their goal is to raise 20 grand.

Well, yes, of course, Joy was raised to always think of her family first, no matter what.  No point in praying for people who might not worship the right Jesus.  They deserved what they got, after all.

Interesting, isn't it, that Austin, who, on paper at least, is the most qualified of this bunch to actually provide assistance in an emergency is one of the first ones home while others are still down there?  Austin seems like a no-nonsense sort. I hope he took a look around, realized they were serving no useful purpose and started making plans to leave.

The key to a good grift is, to quote Kenny Rogers, "know when to walk away."  They got their name out there,  got some donations that they don't have to account for and can go home.

Again who is taking the picture?

I'm guessing they sent home the non-pilots; Austin, Jana and Lawson. From what I've read, the priority seems to be to get everyone off island.

Austin is a pilot. He would have flown this group home.

He is also an EMT with actual training and certification.  Or at least, that's what we've been told.  He's also got a ton of experience in both tearing down and building homes, more than any of the rest of them by far.

Did the British military kick them out?

I suspect that they, or other authorities told them it was time to go away and not come back; that they were never going to be needed.  Or the hotel where they were staying kicked them out because actual authorized rescue personnel and displaced people needed their rooms.

Austin may have had actual obligations he had to get back home to, Jana was gone so long that Michelle noticed her absence and was afraid someone might expect her to attend to one of her minor children, and Lawson couldn't find a working outlet to plug in his hairdryer, crimper, trimmer, and make-up mirror.

I suspect Austin flew back Jana and the 2 howlers (James and Jason?) who were of least use. I suspect Lawson will hitch a ride with Nathan whenever they decide to leave.

Nathan may be too busy busting out his dentist skills(I just earned about that bs on Free Jinger)

Would it have killed them to have that picture with the kid in it, like a family hug, instead of having him shoved off in a corner?

That's taking DIY or self-sufficiency to a ridiculously stupid level. Was he practicing on himself at least?

It wasn't a hotel in the background you can read the words Odyssey so i Googled that and Nassau and it brought up Odyssey Aviation. They have their own relief fund.
