The first mention of Richard in the trailer being Emily having commissioned a giant, tacky portrait of him was kind of jarring to me, but the later stuff about it looks to be as effective as you would expect from this show.

Well, now I have a giant grin on my face.  Didn't realize how much I missed this show until now!

Jesus H. Tapdancing Christ, Lorelei, if things are good with Luke, DON'T FUCK IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No freaking kidding.  The one thing I ask of this revival is no Luke and Lorelei drama.

There's something highly annoying about taking a Carol King song and... pausing it in the middle (especially several times in a row, with big crash/boom sounds and echoing).

Just let the damn song play!

I don't mind some drama as long as it doesn't break them up. Reassessing your life isn't unusual after losing a loved one. SP said his favorite L&L part is in these episodes and that it was beautiful.  I bet it's the one in the mountains.

I love Lorelai in hats. There has been a lot of talk that some don't but I think she's adorable.

Agreed. On the LL front and Lorelai + hats :)

Aw!  Hi, Show!! Good to see you again.  I've been listening to the Gilmore Guys podcasts for a couple of years now, so talk of GG has been ringing in my ears as I walk my dogs for a while now.  Still, I guess I didn't realize that I'm actually really happy about the revival.  The trailer made me incredibly happy.

I was SO glad that they led with a lighter note on Richard's death in the trailer because I know I will be boo-hooing up a damned storm when they are actually dealing with the material.  Release the Ugly Cry!  So whereas I absolutely had the same sort "Wha...? Oh. Okay, well that was a definitive choice..." reaction ultimately I think it was a wise one.  They had to bring up Richard's death, there just wouldn't be any way to avoid  it in the trailer, I think they struck the right note: Funny and irreverent to start and then some stuff that hinted at the boo-hoo fest to come.

From the article on the homepage:

If she's yet another bad example of a millennial on television (ahem, Survivor), I'm going to be pissed.

I think they're off the hook on this, in terms of whether or not it will be cliched because long ago the story structured in Rory's reason for her vagabond status:  she dreamed of joining what even back then was known as a foundering, even dying , profession.  So even if they go to the existential dilemma place with this, at least it is something they earned years ago.

Since Christianne Amanpour is still busy being Christianne Amanpour and the face of how news is consumed has irrevocably changed, it makes sense that Rory really never put down professional roots.

Just let the damn song play!

Hehe, yeah, I agree they really went for the dissonance there but in fairness, the full version of the song actually plays in such a strange, disjointed fashion anyway.   At least in the versions of it that I've heard ....and I've never really liked the theme song because the full lyrics are not exactly all "Girl Power!"  instead it's more like, "I will give everything in my life to this dude, who is my romantic world" ....just saying, there are reasons I'm glad they kept cutting that song off.

I now have a weird fondness for it because it reminds me of Gilmore Girls but I hate that cheesy, seventies we-sing-songs-about-men-and-their-magic-irresistible-penises gig from that time period.

I loved the short glimpse of Rory walking on Chilton's campus, it looked like she was meant to be there. Alexis' voice seems different, I know Lauren's is a lot different.

I kind of disagree.  I know they had Rory applying for jobs with newspapers in the last episodes, but she's always claimed to want to be like Christianne Amanpour, and it's not like broadcast journalism is in trouble.   I could see her drifting because she realized that her goal wasn't realistic (because Rory doesn't seem like she'd be particularly good on camera), and she's struggled to find a fallback.

Lauren's face did look a little off.  It looks somewhat plastic, maybe?

Me too. I mean, I thought it might be nice to revisit, but now that I'm seeing the trailer, I'm officially stoked. I've already told Mr. Risky that he should probably just go ahead and pretend I don't exist for a while on the 25th. I'm off work that day and it'll be largely devoted to this and leftovers.

Yeah, while both elements are incredibly in character, they seemed out of order in their presentation in the trailer. Still, it's nice to know that Emily is handling her emotions the same as ever.

My theory based on that scene is that Rory can't find work and is considering taking a job as an English teacher at Chilton. I'm in journalism and it happens a lot!

Also based on that brief scene with Jess, I bet he's weirdly more successful than she is right now. It looks like a bookstore, possibly the same one where he worked when the show last saw him?

I think that would be a great job for her, honestly!

It did look like Truncheon, wonder if it is. We'll see in a month!!

I just about died at Emily in a t-shirt and jeans.  That's just wrong.

That reminded me of Emily in her robe smoking cigarettes after reading that horrible letter from Richard's mom.

Oh my God, so much just happened!

Kirk at Friday Night Dinner! Emily in JEANS! Dean! Jess! Logan! Sookie! Paris! Townies! I need this in my life like I need water after a work out!

I am really interested in seeing where Rory goes from here. Honestly, I never thought print journalism was the right path for Rory. Even when the show was coming out a good few years ago, traditional print journalism was in trouble, and you needed to be really tough to break in. I just never saw it as being something Rory would be into. I am looking forward to hearing about her vagabond years. Well, vagabond for Rory anyway.

I'm spazzing over in my corner of the world, I can't lie. Even my husband, who likes to tease me about my GG love, teared up during the parts about Richard. And while the portrait was overblown and tacky, the loving way Emily looked at it...gah. If Kelly Bishop doesn't at least get an Emmy nomination this year, there is no justice.

I'm all set to watch Rory re-evaluate her career. It's been a long, long time coming, imo, since I'm in agreement that journalism was never the right choice for her. I hope her love life and exes are pushed to the side, and since the trailer didn't focus all that much on her exes, I have hope.

I really want to know the explanation for Kirk being at FND. That was so random and awesome at the same time lol.

Also, the exterior, not on a sound stage or backlot shots-Rory walking through a building, sky view of a city, Lorelai traipsing around in nature-are definitely different. Netflix must have really thrown good money at them.

The salaries for Alexis and Lauren alone were $750K per episode. Each. So yeah. They must have REALLY wanted this to happen.

FWIW, Carole King said she wasn't performing the song because of its "woman follows the man" theme, but when Amy asked her if they could use it for the show, she rewrote and re-recorded it with her daughter (I think).

That was the most awesome Emily of all her incarnations.

My heart broke a little with the brief shot of Emily standing graveside with that portrait of she and Richard at the vow renewal next to her.

Yep, feeling the trailer love. This is the first time I thought, hey, this is really Lorelai and Rory and yes, time has passed.

Also have been through Emily's decluttering scene and her manic dumping of possessions that don't bring her joy with my own mother. Sigh.

I'm sad I didn't get emotional as some of you. I don't know if it's because I've consistently had Gilmore Girls on my television on one way or another over the years so I don't feel nostalgic at all, but also everything feels very jarring. Everyone looks so different and sounds so different... I'm sure by the time I'm done with the first episode I'll have grown used to the changes but until then...

I have read that she had her mouth done.   I think that's true based on what we saw.

Oh thank God, someone brough it up! I think LG doesn't look the same since S7 so in a weird way I'm not as bothered as I am when it comes to Alexis. She really seems to be struggling to make facial expressions. ANY  facial expressions.

Okay, there was one thing that had me really excited! Besides the fact the trailer got me even more interested in both the girls' storylines than I already was, it managed to get my hopes way up about Rory/Jess being endgame. Which I had worked really hard not to happen. Damn!

I think my favorite thing was Emily giving away her dining room chairs because they don't "bring her joy".  That decluttering mantra has always seemed kind of ridiculous to me.  I mean, toilet paper doesn't "bring me joy", but I kinda have to have some, no?  lol

I hadn't been super excited for the revival until I saw this trailer. And then I got actual chills. I think S7 left such a bad taste in my mouth that I forgot how much I used to genuinely love the show. I'm so excited for everything to do with Emily's storyline. It's going to be heart wrenching and Kelly Bishop is going to act the hell out of it.

Yes, I am here for L and R but I am really staying for Emily. #bill #neverforget

Neither have I. I've been dreading it out of fear it'll be horrible. Season 7 was bad enough. Watching it I finally felt excited for the first time.

Ahh, so much good in this trailer: The girls doing a town tour, Luke (living?) in the Crap Shack with them where he belongs, Emily responding in a 100% Emily-like manner over Richard's death (grief and then totally over the top reorganizing), Rory and Jess having a heart to heart over drinks (?!), a return to Chilton, Sookie, Paris, Lane and uh Kirk at Friday Night Dinner?

Joining in everyone else at wondering what they're going to do with Lorelai (and hoping they don't screw it up with more Luke/Lorelai drama). It makes sense for both Emily and Rory to be at a crossroads and reappraising their lives: There are lots of different ways they could explore Emily losing Richard and finding herself outside of being his wife, and Rory's career/life plan could go in a hundred different directions. But with Lorelai although she's upset over Richard what would his death make her rethink? Her relationship with Luke? Her career/inn owning? Living in Stars Hollow? That's all stuff integral to the show and makes sense for her character. But this trailer has given me hope they could actually pull it all off!

I was already excited about this, but now I cannot wait for it to be November 25th!  Loved Emily and her purging of anything that doesn't give her joy!  Loved that moment of her and Lorelai clinking glasses on the couch.  Loved Luke in the kitchen with the girls.  Loved everything.  I am ready for a day of coffee, junk food, and the Gilmore girls!

And was Emily sporting a Candies shirt? Has to be a Lorelie or Rory leftover.

My guess is Emily found some of Lorelai's old clothing from her teen years and put it on, showing her mental state.   Kelly Bishop lost weight over the past decade, she looks slimmer IMO (not that she was ever fat).  She looks great at 72!

I'm finding Alexis' deeper voice a little jarring, but 1st season Rory had a deeper voice but for some reason she got higher pitched as the series went on. Everyone else sounds the same to me.

How much do I love that most of the dialogue is based around food?

I guess I am in the minority but the trailer did pretty much nothing for me.  There were a couple of funny lines ("Wow, that was pornographic"!) but the changes in Lauren are jarring enough to make stare at her face and miss the chat.  I guess I will have to reserve judgement until the first one airs.

Yeah .. I adore Lauren but wow.  I know she is just shy of fifty and it is normal for looks to change over time but heavens.  Her looks are extremely jarring.

It really looks like there was work done.

Jess and Rory are talking at the Stars Hollow Gazette. Is Jess now editor?

A small town community weekly newspaper will typically have an editor/publisher, a freelance photographer, and a handful local stringers. Only the editor would be able to make a living, so if Jess is the editor, he wouldn't be able to offer Rory an actual job.

I thought that maybe, after Rory's path to discover herself she might have taken a temporary job at the Gazette as a means of pay. I don't see Jess moving back to Stars Hollow, and I don't see him as someone who would go into that specific area. But I'll accept being surprised!
