Jessa, Ben and Their Brood: Making a (Diaper) Mountain out of a Mold House

The Duggars post about politics on social media frequently, but these social media posts are not an invitation to discuss politics here in this forum. This rule extends to Duggar adjacent families, friends, associates etc. Such discussions are a violation of the Politics Policy.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss certain social media postings of those in the Duggar realm as they relate to politics- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

I have no idea why buying health insurance is such a big no-no for the Duggars. They all have little kids, and little kids get sick a lot. Like ... where in the Bible does it say it's bad to be medically insured?

Insurance is expensive. The insurance industry is the one industry that holds steady no matter the economy because they sell something that the majority barely use. I'm sure the Christian insurance co-ops are much cheaper than an average family's premium.

Over the course of the Seewald's marriage they likely have only needed financial assistance for pregnancy/delivery and possibly childhood vaxxes. A healthy family of their ages will likely pay out more in premiums than they use, short of a catastrophe.

Don't get me wrong, I believe in insurance - health insurance, car insurance and house insurance, but mostly we're paying out a lot of what we'll never recover.

Since Bin likely makes very little, they would qualify for substantial ACA subsidies on the exchange.

Its true Ben likely makes very little, but they live like a family who has more income than Ben's salary.

Does anyone remember what the Seewalds said they made when they were deposed for the law suit?

I came across this info when googling,

"Christian Healthcare, Christian Care Ministry's Medi-Share and Samaritan, do not cover routine preventive care, such as physicals, mammograms and colonoscopies. Christian Healthcare and Medi-Share do not cover mental health."

I remember seeing John Oliver on Last Week Tonight do a devastating segment about them

So it covers when you're sick or pregnant and that's it?  What do they have against preventative care? These people are ridiculous.

My husband is in claims and says these insurance plans are a joke. I even read a few comments from people who are either on them or  know someone on them. No preventative care, "prayers" as part of the coverage (yes, they seriously will pray for you instead of paying a claim) and they basically cover very little.

I bet if they really had a big bill JB would cover it.

I just did a search, and that episode is available on Youtube.  Oops, I guess I didn't get it attached on the first try.

I agree that this insurance Jessa is hawking is a scam, but the company does have to pay for some claims.  If they did not, then it would fold.  So they pay on the claims submitted by people like Jessa and other well-known Christians.  Then Jessa and others rave online and in person about how great this insurance company is.  An unofficial quid pro quo.

I have a friend who quit her job when she moved to a different state.  She is using one of those plans (I don't remember which one, but I don't think it is Samaritan's Purse) for the rest of this year.  Then she will qualify for Medicare.  She went with this plan because it was so much cheaper than any insurance she could find on her own, but she also had to really work to get some medical test done.  It took her a long time to get authorization for a needed sleep study. I know she had surgery at a podiatrist's office, but I do not know how much the  "insurance" covered--if any.   For her, it was just for her alone, and she knew it was just for a couple of years.  She will start Medicare next month.  It was the difference in cost that made her decision to not get regular insurance.

In the comments section there are quite a few people talking about what a shitty plan this is and how they don't pay for things.

Don’t worry, Jessa is busy deleting all of those comments right now!

I think the co-op insurances are rip-offs, but I'm fairly certain they say up front not all bills will be paid. They are basically saying buyer beware, yet the buyers buy anyway. Crazy.

In part because lying grifters like Jessa promote them.

Jim Bob used to and may still carry regular health insurance on the family.  It sounds like the cost sharing was a new idea to Jessa.  JB has said in the past he'd be a fool not to carry health insurance.

Yes I've posted on here before about a previous job I had where someone on staff was advocating for us to trash our regular real insurance for Samaritan. It took us all of one lunch break to realize that pretty much nobody who worked there would be covered. It was a very long list of things that not only wouldn't be covered if you did have it, but almost nobody on staff was really eligible to begin with. From being smokers to being overweight to not going to church. We were a pretty tame group, but by their standards, we were a pack of hellraisers not worthy of coverage.

My friend had to pay a higher "premium" because her blood pressure was not in the range they wanted.  It was not high enough to worry about, but they had a range you had to be in.  So they charged her more.

Yeah, I've heard that they won't even treat pre-existing conditions. But high BP can be controlled. I don't get charging more for a minor issue.

I honestly have no clue what type of insurance they have but from experience…. Our insurance is through Market Place. I took our 10 year old son for his routine yearly dr visit and his blood pressure was high. After months of blood work, echos, Ct scans, specialists, etc. we discovered he was born with a congenital heart defect that was only just now detected. So I can see how high blood pressure can be a tricky issue when it comes to health insurance.

I know next year our rates will be through the roof because of my son’s preexisting condition and the multiple surgeries he has to undergo.

Health insurers can no longer charge more or deny coverage to you or your child because of a pre-existing health condition like asthma, diabetes, or cancer, as well as pregnancy. They cannot limit benefits for that condition either.

Why not call your baby by her name, Jessa? This is just weird. I associate “Baby Girl” with the unborn. “Littles,” “blessed,” “god,” blah blah blah. 🤮

If she keeps it generic she can copy/paste it for future posts as she already does with photos.

I just looked at the Seewald Family Instagram page and there’s a picture of Ben’s parents in a restaurant having dinner.  It looks like Ben’s mother is drinking a martini.  I’m pleasantly surprised!

It was the senior Seewalds' anniversary last Saturday. I share my special day with them, down to the year! I guess Benessa tagged along.

The picture referenced was on  Michael and Guinn’s Instagram, on July 5th.

I’m genuinely wondering if they even moved, if it looks the same are we sure they’re not still in the old house?

It’s probably a virgin martini.

That's the new house. The old house had one small window and the slider they put in. That window is a full size window. Also that deck railing looks to have a few steps, when Jessa's old house had maybe one step off the back deck.

Does this area of the country get many earthquakes or windstorms?  I would not want to sleep with anything like this over my head.  It doesn't seem very safe.  Of course, I live where there are earthquakes on occasion.  Not very often, but I still won't put big pictures on the wall over my bed.  I would hate to be squashed by a heavy shelf in my sleep. (That sounds like a murder scenario  from Midsomer Murders!)

Nothing wrong with that. Some people do not like the taste of alcohol. Most fundies that I knew would not drink out of a martini glas because it would be a " bad witness " people would think they are drinking  when they are not. They want to avoid " every appearance of evil". I personally do not hold to that view, I do not drink much though.

They moved and Fern’s birthday week. Haven’t watched it yet.
Ok, watched it. Can’t stop laughing at the first few seconds when Fern is holding a pair of handcuffs. Then they are swiftly taken from her, as if Jessa will think we might think they are her and Ben’s. 🤣🤣

Other then that, boring.

Fern is very cute.  Lots of Henry in video, he likes to "help", he was doing a good job helping put the play house together. At least she got a smash cake at the big house.  Jordyn made it.  Saw, Michelle, JB (his birthday too), heard Jason talking. Not sure who else was there.  Jessa did a mini ad for an online learning tool. Ben seemed a little more involved/interested.
