I'm not surprised, just disappointed. Poor Jinger, thunder stolen, pregnant Jessa strutting her modest self at the wedding. Maybe Jessa can faint walking down the aisle to completely get the attention off Jinger.

Mods...can we Please, Please, Please rename this thread Ben and Jessa: 2 Kids 0 Jobs? Pretty please?

I like Nielson Share Seewald. Works for a boy or girl.

Yes, please!!

Yep. Exactly.  :/

Im thinking tyndale or Wycliffe really sounds about right. Or Sunday for billy Sunday and to keep the S theme  (but not sure if he hated Catholics). Maybe graham for billy graham.

According to the same Wikipedia, Selah means "the end; pause" so here's to hoping that will be biblically prophetic and it'll be two and done.

Meh. Wishful thinking.

Good lord, I just heard. My first thought was wondering if they had a job yet. At this rate, Izzy is more likely to have a job first. I thought it was twins or triplets at first due to the "doubling" part. I'm sure Jessa will love the attention having the first multiple grandbaby birth will bring her.

Swindoll Seewald, after Chuck Swindoll.  You get the evangelical pastor with the bonus of "swindol" (swindle) which is perfect for these grifters.

Poor Spurgeon will be relegated to second best since Jessa Blessa will concentrate on the new baby.  He will still be a baby too!  Even with his doting "aunties" he will miss his mother's attention.

Maybe not. I am less than a year younger than my brother; my mother referred to this as my stealing his birthright. I was sent several states away to grandparents for over a year so her sacred first born could have all her intention. I heard about how her life work was making it up to him until the day she died. I do not lie when I say the woman despised me and made damned sure I knew it.

Well that is depressing. Mine are 21 months apart and grew up very close although it was just me and them (the ex was in medical school/internship/residency etc so,he was never home and we didn't live that close to family. I hope your grandparents were kind and loving people.

Part of me wonders if Erin didn't stage that photo. How  would Carson be able to reach things that would normally sit on top of a counter? The kid's only a year old. I can't imagine they'd leave chemicals like air fresheners within a baby's reach. The only reason I bring it up is because I have an annoying cousin who turned into a Mommy Martyr once her second kid was born. Every FB post was an obnoxious "only a mother of two could possibly understand" passive-aggressive dig, just like what Erin did here.

I don't think Erin meant it as a passive-aggressive dig.  She's just discovering the joys of having two kids under the age of 2.  Being completely responsible for your own kids is much different (and scarier) than having younger siblings.

Simple solution to Erin's problem: close the bathroom door.  Certainly Carson is not tall enough to open it on his own.  I must say I am a bit skeptical- 15 months seems a bit young to do that.  Maybe it was "staged", as in he threw one thing in and Mom "embellished".

I doubt Jessa's toilet is clean enough to be photo-worthy.

I am just a tad surprised at her announcement- figured she was too "princessy" to go through another pregnancy so soon.  Guess she is  Michelle 2.0 .

I thought it was recommended to wait 6 months after traveling to a zika area before getting pregnant?  Am I making that up? I thought my would take up to 6 months for your to test positive.  Maybe I'm totally wrong on this.

I am so sorry that you had to be raised by a mother that obviously favored your brother over you.  Not only favored him, she actively tried to get rid of you by sending you away for over a year.  It's a shame that you had to go back to live with her.  She had issues, God only knows what they were.

The kindest thing I can think about when wondering why your mother was so horrible is thinking about the problem many parents go through when the second child is born.  When there is only one child in the family it's easy to devote all your time to the baby.  But when the second child is born, suddenly the parents have to divide their time.  They got used to paying all their attention to their firstborn, it's all they know.  But now there's another baby in the house and it needs more time and attention than the first.

Having a second child is a balancing act that can be difficult to learn.  Pay too much attention to the baby and you suddenly realize you're neglecting the other.  Start paying more attention to the other and wonder if you're neglecting the baby.  This happens a lot, and the fact that you care about meeting the needs of both children means you actually love both children and want to be a good parent to both of them.  Over time you develop a new way of parenting that best meets the needs of both of your children.  You go through this every time you add another child to the family.

dorcastrilling, maybe your mother was unable to learn how to add you to the mix.  Or maybe she had other problems, but I hope you really know and understand that you aren't responsible for her problems.  Really, who can blame a child for being born?  It's not like you pushed your way into her home and forced her to be your mother.

I was being sarcastic about the post being a dig at Jessa. It's pretty clear that she saw the humor in the situation. That said, we just saw her recent redecoration efforts, and there are tons of breakables and other hazards on the floors. Then there are all those bottles behind the couch. Carson will be able to scale it soon.

I wonder how much of Jessa's stuff went back to their original places after the cameras left after filming that lame, FU Internetz baby-proofing segment? She obviously read the comments about Spud and the doorstop a few months back, et voila! we see baby-proofing, EXCEPT the doorstops!

Sort of.   Jill want to name her daughter that, but if Jessa has the first girl she can use it. I wonder if  Selah is common enough in their world that Jessa won't think it's exciting enough.   With so many siblings anyway, surely some of the cousins  will have the same names.

If they want more S biblical S names, there's Susanna, Sarai, to add the list. There seems to be a theory that if the word appears in the bible, and it can be called a biblical name. For example, Sapphire or maybe Salmon or Singer or something along those lines.

I'm not sure they'll do a letter theme though.

I wonder how easy it is for Jessa and her siblings to undo the many things they have been taught. Even with more access to the heathen world through married freedom. My siblings and I were pretty much raised as free-range children and I have tried to think of any messages we were consistently taught that I have veered away from. I know I raised my kids a little differently; tighter reins and way more communication, but I can't recall ever knowingly doing something completely differently. Yet I can't pin point any significant message other than the Golden Rule.

With social media the Duggars must at least know a lot of people think they're a bit whacked, but how easy or hard is it to recognize that other options aren't a ticket to hell?

Really hard, because such a question doesn't even rise to the level of thought. The baked-in assumptions are pretty much all on automatic before you as a kid even develop thinking abilities and to some extent even before you develop language. They're literally wired into the kid brain as survival tools.

I'm by nature a ravenously curious, analytical, skeptical and independent person who got language very early. And even for me a whole whole lot of the stuff I was indoctrinated with -- most of which goes completely against my own natural inclinations -- propels my behavior and beliefs without ever coming near the level of consciousness.

I think we miss this hard fact of human behavior because, hey, most of us are all but totally unaware of how much of our behavior and beliefs are automatic and unconscious. That's the way it's supposed to be, to free up our brains to absorb new stuff for in-the-moment survival. But there's a lot of danger in that stuff that's become unconscious, especially the heaping helping of it that's been put in by stupid malicious parenting like the Duggars'.

Loving all the name ideas, hopefully Ben and Jessa read this board and are taking notes. I still can't get over the abomination of the name Spurgeon, that poor child, at least he's cute and happy and still not aware what a stupid name his parents saddled him with.

I just finished watching the new episode of Grifting On and Jessa still seems to wear the pants in that family. In the scene where Ben and her were babysitting and Ben kept trying to convince the kids to eat carrots, Jessa said something to the effect of "if they don't want them, don't force them. The best kind of parenting style is to give them what they want." It made me wonder if that's the parenting style she will follow with her own school of fish. That may work now that Spurgeon is a baby, but they're going to have a monster of a child on their hands in a couple of years if they abide by that. I also feel like her and Ben are so incompatible, she's constantly snarking and correcting him. Ben may be an idiot, but that's going to lead to a lot of resentment from him. The just doesn't seem to be a "so in love" vibe from them, I see the first Duggar Divorce special in their future. It has to happen when the cameras are long gone and another couple of kids have been added and the money well is dry.

I wonder if Jessa and Bin got tested for zika before getting PG?? That could be a concern. When was their visit to CA vs when Spawn of Seewald was conceived?

I stopped being lazy and googled CDC : They say people should practice safe sex for 6 months if the Male was diagnosed/had Zika sympotms

I really hope they got tested/ and are actually getting prenatal care this time

From CDC website

"CDC therefore recommends that non-pregnant couples consider using barrier methods to protect against infection or abstaining from sex for at least 8 weeks after illness onset if a female partner is diagnosed with or experiences symptoms of Zika, and for at least 6 months if a male partner is diagnosed with or experiences symptoms of Zika. The longer precautionary period recommended for men with Zika takes into consideration the fact that Zika can persist in the semen of infected men after they have recovered from illness. "

Zika isn't real. Just pray. Jesus is heals anything. Jessa or Ben can't gave zika they have Jesus

It's probably his only chance for some private time. Remember, the Duggars don't believe in letting people be alone. Ever. Because of accountability, since we know people start sinning the second they don't have someone looking over their shoulder. Thing is, I don't think Bin's parents followed that philosophy, so he might be feeling smothered what with being surrounded by Duggars 24/7. Going to a fundy coffee shop, owned by friends of the Duggars, for Bible study could be the perfect compromise. He can't stray because he's got spies watching him, but he gets some time alone with his thoughts and doesn't have to interact with people.

ETA: Great minds, Churchhoney. ;)

Sayla sounds to me like somebody from Boston trying to say "sailor".   When I was younger I was in love with the name Shayla, it's the name of one of my favorite Blondie songs.  But anything they choose will (hopefully) be better than Spurgeon.

There's a clothing store that was named after the baby she miscarried named Sayla so I'm partial to it lol but yeah it does sound like Sailor with a Boston accent. Shayla is really pretty, so is Shay.

Well, there is the evangelist Chuck Swindoll. My parents loved to listen to his radios shows back in the day. But he may be considered too liberal for these two. Too bad, because Swindoll Seewald has the potential to top Spurgeon.

However, I found these quotes from Swindoll. They are far too practical for our More Pious Than Everyone couple:

Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.

The remarkable thing is, we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.

We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.

I wasn't able to tack my comments on the backside of those quotes, but my guess is that these messages, not peppered with God or Jesus, are heathen to them. Have they ever taken a look at life without their clouded lens of the world? I guess not, and as long as TLC pays them for their fantasy life, nothing's going to change with these two.

Churchhoney, I love your observations because I know the indoctrination from my former church rears its head at odd times, too. I left a long time ago, but I'm always stunned at how deeply their words and actions infiltrated in me. One would think I would have replaced it with emotionally healthier and accurate life lessons by now. It's like gardening: I weed the patch of dirt, but other weeds take its place.

It's a work in progress. I know we've made strides in a better direction because the Duggars' behavior makes me realize there is nothing on this earth that could force me into that lifestyle again.
