Or you can be a beloved, hard-working chorus teacher in a school with a respected overall music program (AP music theory, award-winning orchestra, band, and chorus). My public high school chorus teacher conducted 4 groups, taught piano, and traveled with us for competitions.

I was only half-watching this game so I didn't really get a feel for any of the competitors. For TS I got I'll Follow the Sun and Sidney Poitier. Another FJ instaget, although it came so easily I thought it had to be wrong. Not sure I would have written it if I were iin the studio.

TS I got were El Dorado County, Joy of Life, Sidney Poitier.

Tuesday's line-up were my favorites for the final, so I was disappointed that all 3 ended up in the same semi.

I got FJ because of a short story by Lawrence Block which included the following Michelangelo quote about sculpting David:  "It is easy. You just chip away the stone that doesn't look like David."

Of course FJ was literally the ONLY sculpture I can name. That one definitely felt maybe so easy that it's hard, like if you knew more than one sculpture you'd be second-guessing yourself.

That happened this year with my yearbook class. Why in the world would anyone think kids with severe discipline issues would do well in a class that's producing an actual product? At one point, I had three students in the class who were on security guard escort because they couldn't even be trusted to pass classes on their own without getting in trouble! It was a nightmare, and I ended up basically just working with two or three students who really wanted to do it and managing behaviors the rest of the time.

I told them not to think for a second I'll do that class again next year, unless I can hand-pick my students.

What a terrible, horrible game tonight!  So many TS, and Michael seemed a bit shouty in the first round.  You have a microphone, Michael, no need to yell at us!  Plus that whole starting in the middle of the category annoyed me, as usual.  So I am glad he did not win.

FJ was another instaget for me, though I did second-guess it because it seemed so obvious.

TS I got included Skipper (these people apparently never watched Gilligan's Island!), microbe, Da Vinci Code, Go-Go's (it made me feel sad, and old, that they all missed that one!), cataract, charlatan, camaraderie, and Gold Star.

Congrats to Mary.  I'm also glad Michael didn't win.  He annoyed me no end, and again with the winking.  Ugh.

There were tons of TS I should have gotten but didn't.  I only got Lake Huron, Gold Star, the Go Gos, and Skipper.

I knew my FJ run would come to an end.  I couldn't pull the word out of my brain in time.  Boo hiss.

I actually just said "Michelangelo's David" because there are several statutes with that name--only one is amazingly famous and likely to be on J! Why is it okay to remove the word "adventures" from book titles? Alice, Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn... I can see my book from here, and the title is clearly Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, not Alice in Wonderland. When Alex stopped the game to give money for Niagara, I thought it was going to be to take away money for Alice!

Terrible game. Too much guessing, and Michael (who I liked in his previous game) starting in the middle.

Alex must be getting forgetful if he can't recall a better tournament in J! history. Nothing against these contestants, but this tournament has been only average for me. 

Did Michael really think he was going to get away with 'Cuomo' in the governor's category? 

I have never heard of a waterfall being referred to as a cataract. My guess was cascade, which I now realize has only 2 'a's. D'oh! Alex would have admonished me for not remembering the category.

TS I got were Amundsen Gulf, skipper (thank you Gilligan's Island), Go-Gos, and the missed DDs of DaVinci Code, Richard III, & Gold Star Mothers.

I blind guessed FJ, but only because that time period is on my mind due to statues of historic Confederate figures being taken down in my hometown. 

I like all 3 finalists so I am good with whoever wins the $100,000.00.

I've never used either one.  Never even heard of them before coming to the Jeopardy boards.

I wouldn't have given the guy in the middle "war of the roses" - that's a movie with Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas, not the actual series of historical events, the wars of the roses.

Due to DVR issues, I missed the first 20 minutes of the episode. Did they really all fail to identify Lake Huron on a map?!

There is really no excuse for that. It's a kids tournament question, and ANYBODY going on Jeopardy, from the kids tournament to the celebrities, should be able to identify the five great lakes on a map. It comes up frequently enough and it's really not hard to learn.

I was surprised she missed 'gold star' either. I'm not even American and that was really easy for me - though if not for the big kerfuffle with Trump, I'm not sure I would have been able to pull the name out of my brain in time.

Then again, I had no idea for FJ, and even after seeing the answer, the word meant nothing to me.

I caught Alex's correction saying that Niagara can be used to mean any big waterfall (seriously?!) but I didn't actually hear the question. Does anyone remember what it was?

Wow, that was surprising that the two English teachers missed FJ which screamed Margaret Mitchell. I like David and wish he had bet more. I would have loved to have had a US history teacher who gets his students as involved as he does. Hope he wins. Something about Nan irritates me and I can't quite place it. Maybe because she does a little lean forward or nod when she answers.

Up until FJ, it was a good game!  Not too many TS, and not as many goofy guesses as yesterday.  I would be embarrassed if I'd missed FJ -- it seemed terribly obvious to me as well.

I only got two of the TS -- shoes and Sleeping Beauty.

But I could have sworn I heard David say "Kirk" Russell instead of Kurt, and expected a correction.

I finally figured out who Nan reminds me of -- Catherine Hicks from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Edith Wharton never wrote anything approaching 1000 pages.  I'm not familiar with Cather's work, but I don't get how anybody familiar with literature could have gotten that wrong.

I guessed Ayn Rand too, although I didn't think her debut novel was that long. (Atlas Shrugged, yes.) Willa Cather and Edith Wharton were bad guesses. But in defense of the two who got it wrong, Gone With the Wind may not have been on their radar because while it's a "good read," it's not considered serious literature and certainly not taught in schools--especially nowadays, with its problematic depiction of slaves and slavery and the KKK as good guys.

I'm not sure I'd describe Mary as snotty, but I think I'd be annoyed rather than amused by her classroom puns and "ephemeral" songs.

I never ceased to be amazed by what you super-smart posters here consider unforgivably easy. I had no clue on FJ. Of course, I am not a big literature buff (I usually get non-fiction when I go to the library), and I've never seen the film version of Gone With the Wind. Although I did immediately think "argh, Women Authors, the forum will hate that one" ;)

As for TS, I got shoes as I knew Bruno Magli was a shoe designer but kind of questioned it as it didn't seem to fit the context of the clue; Guilder (there was a "G" on the coin!) and most importantly for me, Leyte Gulf.  My dad fought in that battle during WWII so it was an instaget for his proud daughter!

Funny, I was just the opposite. I got the last name, which I would think that's all that would be needed here, but I couldn't recall her first name. "Martha? No, that was John Mitchell's wife... Joan? No..."

I noticed he said 'Kurt' a little off, but I heard him pronounce another word oddly, so I think it was just the way he pronounces words, not a mistake.

I watched the very first ep of 2 Broke Girls, maybe the second too, and that was enough. But I did remember that they wanted to go in the cupcake business together.

I wouldn't be surprised if the English teachers know too much literature and overthought the clue rather than take it as FJ factoid check. I got it by thinking about long books (honestly that's why I haven't read Gone with the Wind), and not thinking about women authors of the 1930s. I think if I knew more about (women) authors in the 1930s and went that direction, I'd have a lower chance of getting it.

I am a bit weak on geography, but I did really well on the Gulf category, getting Leyte and Turkey along with the others. I did get FJ right away after seeing the year.

Here in Chicagoland, we missed the first part of the opening round due to the Trump press conference, so I didn't get to see the whole thing.

I wanted to bring up my GPA for graduation and took an easy "A" class in African Studies on slavery in college. Because it was aimed at students who had to maintain a "C" in order to get Government to pay their tuition, there was only one book assigned: "Gone With the Wind". Most boring thing I ever read, but I was dating someone at the time who loved the movie, so I sat through that and skimmed the rest of the book. Got the "A". A few years back I worked a job that I had to pass the Margaret Mitchell house every day to get to. Easy FJ.
