I'm sure the company would have preferred if the vehicle had made it to the top, but it couldn't get up the last step (something underneath is probably getting snagged) . They show the driver celebrating to distract you from the failure

That's what I thought. The way the car stops abruptly with the body virtually resting on the edge of the top step looks like something in the undercarriage got stuck there. I'll bet after the photo ops and celebration someone had to come back and lift the now-busted car straight up off the steps. I also wonder what damage the car did to that staircase, but I doubt if it will ever be publicized.

I find it fascinating that there is a new genre of ads where companies proclaim "We fucked up. We apologize. We won't do it again. We mean it this time."

Uber

And Wells Fargo

The CEO of Uber claims "we've changed the way people get around". WTF?!  Umm...hey CEO Douchebag (whose name is too complicated to remember) of Uber....we're still getting to where we need to go via AUTOMOBILES. You're just providing a person to drive us to where we need to go because we maybe drank too much or our car is at the repair shop or we need a ride home from hospital outpatient surgery. The list goes on and on. YOU,  Mr. Uber CEO did nothing but update the taxi industry. But good to know you really care about your employees and customers (as you ride everywhere in a limo)

And fuck Wells Fargo too. Yes, I'm full of human kindness today! LOL!

Even if Uber manages to clean up the crapstorm that is their legacy of harassment, rape, and other assorted misbehavior, I won’t believe ANYTHING until they get their drivers to actually obey the rules of the road. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been behind an Uber driver who stopped randomly in the middle of the street, suddenly turned in front of me without a signal, pulled an illegal U in a busy street, sat with a driver’s-side door open in the road, or stopped with their hazards in the middle of a busy one-lane street while they waited for a rider in the middle of the commute hour  (oh, I guess it’s ok that you’re illegally blocking traffic because you have your hazards on!)...

Locally we had the Pacific Gas & Electric Company add with the extra twee voice over sounding on the verge of tears as she explained the company "lost [their] way". You know how that goes, losing your way?  Like when you blow up a neighborhood and kill people.  Then people really high up in your organization try to, oh, let's say, adjust the judicial process to garner a more favorable ruling.  They too are really, really super sorry.

And don’t forget, your bill will go up because they “lost their way” (and we can’t let our leaders lose their salaries or jobs, nooooo)

I see there's a new Passages Malibu commercial, although Mr. " I used to be an addict, but now I'm not" is conspicuously absent.  If it weren't for the brief shots with "doctors," you'd think it was an expensive spa resort.

Regarding the....Addiction Network ad, I think it is, the part of that commercial that always gets me is when the guy's talking about how, with drug users, "someone dies, or worse, they hurt themselves or others."

I mean, yeah, drug abusers' behavior can certainly have a negative impact on those around them to devastating degrees, for sure...but I'm pretty sure dying is about as sucky an outcome as it gets. 'Cause there's no coming back from that. At all.

Surprisingly, I get this and agree with it.  It sure sucks for the person to die, but that's due to their choices.  Bringing someone down with them, like maybe killing someone with their car, is way worse.

I just don't like the guy who says "I used to be an addict and now I'm not."  I have known plenty of addicts, and they will be addicts the rest of their lives, they just choose not to indulge.

The addiction commercial that drives me crazy is the late night one  where some random guy at the end wishes his family had insurance.  Are we encouraging addicts to come to treatment or to buy insurance?

Sunday night, John Oliver on Last Week Tonight ran an expose on "rehab" facilities and mentioned Addition Network, which is a racket. It's just a referral service to rehab centers, which collect fees for the (totally random) referrals. There is little to no regulation over rehab facilities, and the industry is rampant with fraud.

AT&T runs a PSA about texting while driving, and it features a guy I want to call "Caleb" who says "this is what I would look like if I hadn't died 8 years ago in a car crash caused by texting while driving." He describes what his hopes and dreams were at the time, etc.

Now, I whole heartedly approve the message and it's an interesting approach, but I'm a bit baffled by the concept. Did AT&T go to an alternate timeline where Caleb was still alive and bring him here? I don't get how he's 8 years older if he died 8 years ago. Did he continue to age after he died? Are they interviewing him in heaven? I know this is supposed to be a more or less straight-forward message ("what his life could have been if only . . .") but it's kind of wigging me out that, you know, dead Caleb is talking to us. Go toward the light, Caleb!

I suspect a Ouija board was involved.

It's been mentioned before,  but the more I see the Chevy ad with the douchebag facilitator presenting future cars to the couples on their first date, the more bugs me. "You'll get this car when you shack up..."

So is the elder care industry. I am trying to get my dad some help and I met with someone who called herself an "elder care specialist". She was just a paid shill for one specific facility. No help at all.

That one makes me sad. The poor guy is going to die of a drug overdose because he can't afford to pay for treatment.

Oh lordy, that PSA made me scream at the TV.  Her faux "verge of tears" was the last straw.  The most recent PG&E schtick is that they're "first responders" along with fire, police, etc.  Well, yeah, they show up with the *real* first responders because half the time, they (PG&E) are the ones responsible for the fire, etc.!

Reminds me of the drug ad with the guy who sort-of bee-bops his way around the office and while mowing a lawn. Is dancing around while walking an in thing right now?

Pet Peeve:  Now that it's getting warmer, I'm already seeing it.  People who wear sandals/flip flops, with their toes hanging off the front of the shoe or have their heel hanging off the back.  The shoe is literally 2 sizes too small.  Have you ever noticed it?  It's shocking how many people walk around that way.  It's probably one of my top 10 pet peeves.  Did they notice notice the shoe was too small when they purchased it?  Do they like the feel of toe or heel touching the pavement?  I don't get it at all.   And often, these same people have not attended to their toe nails.  So gross.

I will schedule an appointment soon because the nails on my big toes are jacked. I need to know if I just need to write them off and shellac the hell out of them from now on. Now that I'm going on disability, I can do that to my nails now, since I'm not in contact with patients anymore. And get rid of the chemo ridges on my fingernails that bug me.

Listen! Another one randomly using Werewolves Of London.  Try to ignore the cameltoe as you giggle.

Actually, I kind of did that last Friday. The town I was in was having a Friday Night Festival and I was walking around the square, drinking home-made root beer, when I came to a booth where a bunch of guys were playing Elvis' "Don't Be Cruel" ... it's kind of fun to dance/walk and easy to do with Elvis guiding you.

I love the Prancercise lady!!  BTW, I don't think it's Werewolves of London that's playing.  It sounds a little like AC/DC Back in Black, but it might not be that either.

I found out how AT&T made these commercials.

Quote

The campaign "resurrected" the pair [of young men, Caleb Sorohan and Forrest Cepeda], who had been killed as teenagers—Sorohan due to his own moment of distraction, and Cepeda the victim of someone else's careless texting—with the help of a forensic artist and visual effects from The Mill.

Not possible to ignore that!

Try, because her outfit as a whole is a sight to behold (not to mention her moves).  She has on ankle weights and aerobics sneakers, so she's not purporting to just add the prancing moves while walking home from lunch in order to burn more calories and use additional muscles -- that is what she donned to exercise.

Her white camel toe pants gave me flashbacks. When I was on the dance team in high school, the base of one of our uniforms was a white spandex bodysuit with puffy sleeves. Fortunately, we topped the suits with a white spandex skirt or blue spandex pants and a sequined vest, and I was very in shape back then. Still, white spandex is horribly unforgiving and really should be outlawed.

The way we avoided camel toe in the 1990s was by wearing pantyhose over underwear and under the spandex! Multiple layers!

It's not AC/DC. I ran it through Shazam which couldn't ID it, so maybe just the musical equivalent of stock photos - you can license stuff like that pretty cheaply, where a big-name band would cost you big bucks and doing it without permission gets you pulled from Youtube.

Yep. My DH, a life long rock musician says it's a riff on Werewolves of London but mainly it's just a generic rock ditty.

Holy shit, there is literally nothing about this person that isn't annoying.  And she's supposedly a real employee?  That her coworkers haven't tossed her into the meat grinder just to spare themselves is an act of restraint so admirable they should all be given bonuses.

I posted about that one this past weekend. It came on while watching Law & Order on TNT. I agree about her supposed coworkers.

The Walmart commercials airing where they show one big box on people's porches piss me off. Everytime I have made an order from their site over the years has resulted in multiple boxes from all over the US. Sure there might be one or two bigger boxes included but nothing has ever come in one single box. My most recent order was just over $40 with maybe 9 items and I ended up with 8 boxes on my porch when everything was delivered on the same day. Two smaller items came from the same location but were still put in two separate small boxes.

She is annoying, she can't sing, the commercial seems to last for 10 minutes, and this clip seems to play on endless loop.  Did I die and end up in hell?  Since I can pause the video, I guess not.

There's some ad for some prescription drug for IBS or something. It features people sitting on the toilet. Yeah. Not what I want to see when I'm eating dinner. And the commercial for flea and tick medicine that had a huge tick sitting in a chair. Yikes!!

Agree- and along those lines I hate the ones for that toilet air freshener which features this woman  with a British accent wearing   a crinoline skirt sitting directly on a commode. Speaking of British accent, the ones for Cottonelle tissue featuring someone with that accent asking folks on the street to recount their experiences with toilet paper is also unpleasant. As much as I like British accents (and virtually all accents- including regional ones here), I think someone needs to tell these ad writers that British accents alone don't render tacky scenes/topics to be tasteful.

Cue spooky music....at the precise moment that I was reading this post (just now) and was about to watch the video, it came on TV. And I don't have Alexa or Echo, so there's no one in the house to take control of my universe. ? That's wild!

The new Heinz Ketchup commercial that hangs on the second note of "At Last" way, WAY too long is annoying to the point where I'm starting to dive for the remote control.

While I love music from the 40s, 50s and early 60s, I've never been a big fan of that song. To hear it used in commercials over the years is one thing, but this version is like nails on a chalkboard and chewing foil combined.
