I don’t think anything is too funky with Jinger’s delivery.

There aren’t really in midwives in Laredo.  There are a few that will service the whole Rio Grande Valley, but if Jinger wanted a birth center option she wasn’t going to get that in Laredo.  I suspect the RGV midwives specialize in homebirths only.

There is a hospital in Laredo that is fairly highly rated with OB services, but for whatever reason Jinger didn’t want to use them.

I would guess Jinger & Jeremy chose Ms. Godfrey because she likely did have some ability to get patients transferred to the hospital/to an OB with hospital privileges.  She's also probably well known at that hospital and given a large latitude to do what she wants with her patients.  Once whatever shitshow went down with Joy, Jinger likely chose to go to the hospital route instead (or had something in her own tests that would make them want to choose a hospital delivery).  She probably could have then delivered in Laredo but that would mean starting over with a new OB in a late stage of pregnancy that wouldn’t play as nice with the midwife facility.

I'm thinking Vuolo as well. It'll be interesting to see how Felicity develops, because I've seen infants be dead ringers for one parent only to flip and look like the other as their features fill in.

True indeed! My daughter looked so much like my husband as a baby, but after she turned a year old, everyone said she was my mini-me. She's 5 and people still say "she looks just like you!"

Jing had the least traumatic birth of the Dugger girls, so whatever combination of midwives and medical professionals she used, did the job right.  Healthy baby, fast-recovering mommy and Jana & Laura probably taking care of everybody.

Jing & Baaaaaabe win this round too.

And funny how quickly Jana managed to Google all the meanings of the name Felicity.  Nobody monitors that woman's Internet usage, I guarantee.  *LOL*

You've made my day. Things start to go south, I’ll say, “if Roman Grant were a big weenie...” and I KNOW I will grin, if not outright laugh!

Thankyou.

Why thank you! He really is a weenie.

Thank you for the video. It was really sweet. They seem so real, and no stupid home birth with some problem arising.

I teared up a bit (was induced with my second 7 months ago, memories are still fresh)

Talking about herbs, I also drank rapsberry leaves tea and ate dates. My births were both quick, so maybe it really helps

I think Boob and M'chelle are so checked out on the kids that I'm hoping at least Jana, the Sinner Twin and Jackson have their own secret IG and Twitter accounts that Ma and Pa don't know about because their kids would never break any of the rules, right?

Funny, even after they blamed the pill for the miscarriage, Michelle had most of her subsequent deliveries in a hospital. And when she went into pre-term labor with Josie, she went to the medical center in Little Rock where both received the best of care. I guess what's good for the goose isn't good enough for the gander.

Or in the case of MEEchelle and her daughters, “good for the goose but too good for the goslings.”  Shameful.

I never heard of anyone consuming prescribed herbs to prepare for labor and delivery. This midwife also is described to have married 'her best friend'.....makes me wonder, even with a short hair style and a job does she hold many of the same "Duggar-type" beliefs?" Didn't they say that her office and delivery 'experience' that she offers new moms is in HER HOME? Something is off here to me.

Both herbs and a homeopathic remedy were suggested for me during the final month or two of my pregnancies. I also took herbs to help encourage labor. I used midwives for both of my children’s births. My decision was not religiously based, though I am a Christian, I’m just a pretty crunchy mama. I was blessed to have relatively easy labors with each kid although they were quite a bit different in size. I don’t know if that’s necessarily attributable to the natural remedies but I definitely don’t discount it. And neither of my midwives has Duggar style beliefs.

I'm sure that is a posed picture on Jeremy's part and the prof is probably just doing the usual first day of class spiel.  Plenty of time to stage the picture and not miss anything.

What I find interesting is the bottle of Shin-kai fountain pen ink sitting on the desk.  It's not cheap ink, and props to Jeremy if he actually uses a real fountain pen instead of a Bic.  That's a serious high-level hipster move, if so.  It takes a bit of practice and can look like hammered crap if you don't have basic skills.  I did calligraphy for years, and know the good stuff.  I'm intrigued.

Possibly, but at about $20-$25 per bottle, that's pricey to just pretend with.  And he'd have to know what it was used for.  Seems too convoluted to try & impress, when most people would have no clue what it even was.

In front of the ink appears to be a pen set case with his name on it. I think he's pretentious enough to have bought the stuff for pictures just like this one.

Out of curiosity, I checked the website for the curriculum, and low & behold, the first class listed is:  Old Testament Studies 1 | BI501 | 3 units

Which funnily enough begins with Genesis......   ;-)

And at $495 per unit, is a nice chunk of change.  I wonder how much somebody is paying for Dillweed's law classes?

Is it just me or is there something about the idea of turning his Bible to Genesis 1:1 on Day 1 of seminary studies that just seems ridiculously cheesy?

Everything he does for social media is cheesey.

I'm curious as to what the total cost is going to be for Jeremy's program? Normally I don't snark on anyone trying to further their education, I'm just wondering if the expense will pay off in the end. I've seen Jeremy preach and he's like watching paint dry.

I assumed they were talking about raspberry leaf tea and dates as well. I drank gallons of that damn tea and ate 6 dates a day starting at 36 weeks. I had a fairly quick labor as well. The dates are actually scientifically proven to shorten labor!

In my mom's day (1940s), the women would use castor oil (from the castor oil plant) which is a laxative, to induce labor.  She was a week overdue and took a dose and went into labor the next day.  Something about when the bowels are stimulated, it gets the contractions going.

ETA:  I'm not endorsing this.

Jilly Muffin dosed herself with castor oil during her labor with Izzy and was roundly criticized for it.

My cousin’s midwife (Virginia; no idea what our variety of licensing situations are) had her use a dose (maybe two?) of castor oil to induce when she was a week or two past her due date. This was in the 2000s. I guess if the criteria for success is “labor commenced shortly thereafter,” it worked great for her.*

That’s pretty cool about the dates, though! https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21280989/

I just watched the videos. Jinger states in the first one, "My doctor and midwife think because my sisters' babies were large we should induce labor". This midwife, lay or not, seemed very knowledgeable and competent.

She definitely delivered in the hospital, by hospital staff. I'm guessing she was seeing the midwife throughout and was passed to an OB in the last couple of days and the midwife stayed on as more of a Doula.

This midwife might have enough respect from the hospital that she is able to consult with the OBs before they take over. If I were using a midwife, I would want a Nurse Midwife, but I'm sure there are some lay midwives who know their shit, NOT including Jill and her medical thingies.

I think they chose San Antonio because the midwife was competent and there was a hospital near her birthing center. The actual fuzzy filming of the birth was filmed by a family member.

Yeah, it was used a lot in the olden days, but it's not really recommended today.

I was born a long time ago and my mother drank a beer before nursing me, as advised by her doctor and older women to let down her milk, so they said. Maybe she didn't even need it.  She wasn't a beer drinker as I remember her.  Imagine if that were suggested to any of the Duggar girls.  I'm not advocating or saying it was the right thing to do.  Except I was a "charmingly" plump baby.  translate - fat.

Regardless if castor oil helps bring on labor and delivery, fine.....if the baby is the CORRECT POSITION to be born. Jill's was transverse AND breech. I don't think one would want to bring on labor with a baby in the wrong position to push. Just a cluster F**K of errors, stubbornness and ignorance for Izzy's birth...poor kid.

Felicity is a nice name. I reckon secretly Jeremy would love to be English as it's quite an english name. I could really see him wanting to be smart, educated, ever so slightly above others. He does try SO very hard to come across as that.

Let's hope the wee girl will have better opportunities than her Mother ever had.

Perhaps Jeremy IS part English..remember he is only a small part Italian...his grandfather Vuolo is full Italian. That's it. Perhaps his mother is part English. No way is Diana Vuolo part Italian. Does any one know what her background is? How about Grandma Vuolo? She said on meatball cooking show, that she was NOT Italian. These recipes she excels at were HER mother-in-law's recipes, who WAS full Italian.
