I loved her as Jenny on AMC.

I think my first soap trauma was seeing her get blown up on that jet ski.  I was so young, so naive back then and just didn't believe they'd kill such a popular character.

Not as messy as Claudia turning out to be Johnny's mom, but I guess maybe.

Claudia being Johnny's mom sounds very vaguely familiar. I can't even pretend like I remember the Zacchara years.

I will never care about Finn or his family. Chase can stand on his own without being related to Dr. Mayo.

Yes. Chase can stand on his own. It's Finn who needs family, not Chase.

I remember Kim Delaney on the Miami show and also Army Wives. I particularly liked her in Army Wives because I was one for many years and thought they did a decent job of portraying that life style. I also remember her being a speaker on some awards/tribute show where she was so drunk that she was actually taken off of the stage. I believe that she’s gotten treatment and is in recovery but her alcoholism was a long term issue for her. Hope she’s doing fine now!

Tad was her brother. Greg was Jenny's boyfriend.

Husband by that time, actually.

My mom watched NYPD Blue in the 90's (more regularly before Bobby died--sob! I was 9 in 1998 when Bobby died and I was just CRUSHED), so I was watching Kim Delaney as Diane on that show back when I was a child (not the dirty stuff, though--only as I got older! lol), and I have fond memories of her.

As for her career not doing as well in recent years, though--in addition to typical Hollywood ageism and sexism, she did get escorted off the stage during a speech she made at an event in 2011 where she appeared to be drunk (slurring her words, etc.), which couldn't have helped her at the time. Hopefully she's okay now.

I didn't know about that, but I do remember that almost a decade prior to that (2002), she had a much-publicized DUI incident. She was swerving all over the twisty roads of Malibu for about five miles, and the police arrested her when she got home. Then she dug her hole a little deeper by being belligerent and mocking during the arrest. She got dropped from one of the CSI shows very soon thereafter. I hope she's put all that behind her too.

What's funny, and makes that stand out in my mind, is that one of the TWoP writers/recappers did an interview around that time with Leslie Hope, who played Jack's wife on the first season of 24. He mentioned it in passing but got the wrong Delaney; he said it was Dana Delaney. So Leslie Hope was all, "Dana Delaney got a DUI? She's one of my best friends!"

I’m thinking she’ll be the new  Chief of Staff, based on Cyrus asking how the search for one is going in today’s episode.

I actually have a different guess about that in the spoiler thread...

I was JUST thinking about Jenny and Greg while reading the Episode thread in which people were complaining about milquetoast couples.

AMC did a really good job with having sweet, attractive people fall in love with each other, but encounter so many obstacles that you didn't get bored. Greg/Jenny. Nina/Cliff, Kitty/Linc...and of course all the pairs Erica Kane plowed through. (My babysitters tended to be AMC viewers, so my memory is long!)

I hope Kim D. is doing well. Maybe Col. Tad got her the gig.

I was reading the past posts and confusing Dana with Kim, as well.

Between her and Cynthia Watros, GH is turning into Second Chances, and hopefully, Kim will do well enough that we'll hate her character and her acting. 🙂

Happy 50th Birthday, Laura Wright!

I know she's kind of a polarizing figure on the show, but I will give her this: She commits to everything she is given, no matter what it is. For all the talk over the years about how she dominates the show along with MB and SBu, I do NOT think she would be able to get away with "phoning it in" the way that they so clearly have/do (and to her credit, I don't think she'd ever do it anyway).

I can understand the criticism she's gotten for being too loud as Carly/for not playing Carly in a way that relates to the way that SBr/TB both played her, but there's something about her that I just find very...watchable, I guess? I don't know, there's just something about her that I can't ignore/help but like when she's in a scene (despite Carly being a harpy overall, but again, I don't put that on Laura herself).

And I do think it's pretty damn cool that she's spent nearly 30 years (next year) exclusively in daytime--from Loving, to The City, to Guiding Light (where I first saw her as Cassie), to this show...and all because of a contest she won to be on a soap back when she was working at her family's gas station in Clinton, Maryland (only about an hour and a half north of where I'm from in Maryland...REPRESENT!). She grew up loving soaps and wanted to make a career in soaps...and she did just that. Pretty awesome, overall. And for the record, as someone who watched both her and Wes Ramsey on GL back in the day (I had SUCH a crush on him as Sam), I do think they make a VERY beautiful couple, regardless of the circumstances that got him on the show.

...Okay, I've embarrassed myself enough for today. Peace out, everyone. :)

I hate Carly, but Laura Wright is really good in the role. I wish she weren't saddled with MB and SBu, but she seems able to work with them and not resent their outsized influence. (I think she probably has the most power, whatever that might be, of any of the women on the show.) That alone shows she knows how to play the daytime game.

I would say that she’s even the best Carly - I did love the first two but they played her as too vulnerable.  LW as Carly kinda owns her bitchiness more if that makes any sense.  We’re not supposed to feel sorry for her IMO.

I think that's reasonable for the Carly of today and how LW plays her. Carly is rarely challenged, so there's not much reason for her to not own her bitchiness. This is of course one of the big problems with the character and GH, but that's not LW's fault.

The thing of is that there are never any real or direct consequences. Jane Elliot also owned Tracy shitty attitude, but there were huge consequences for being that type of person.

I look at it like this: the SHOW may not want to show Carly as being an awful person, but LW herself doesn't mind going there at all/risking her character being hated in the process, if that makes any sense.

Hatpin, who used to post on TWoP forum, phrased it that LW plays Carly as a monster and at this point, where she has unjustly defeated all of her enemies, real or imagined, that is exactly what she should be.

OMG, I've been binge reading old soap threads at TWOP and I LOVE her posts so much, her posts about LW as Carly included! I wish she were here, too. :'( .

I assume this means that they taped Mike’s final scenes today. How far in advance are they able to film these days, two weeks or so?

I don't know which actors she's talking about. And I'm not sure she's learning anything.

I hope someone is saying "Don't do what Mo does" quietly in her ear. I do think LW could teach her a few legit things, though.

LW has a few tics herself that EM has picked up on in my opinion. I hate when she does the Carly jr act.

Speaking of vets, do we know if Genie's going to come back, or is she riding out the worst of the pandemic (which could be a long time).

I’ve seen a few people post that Genie always goes on vacation late summer until around Labor Day. If that’s the case, she should be back really soon but I haven’t seen any indication that she’s taping right now. Something is up because a lot of these Lulu scenes were clearly written for Laura.

I did notice in Monday's show they kept bringing Laura up, so here's hoping that means she comes back soon.

I listened to an interview WK did on a podcast yesterday and he mentioned GF opted not to return until things settle down. He brought that up in relation to the Cyrus SL since she was supposed to be heavily involved and he doesn’t know where it’s going now.

That could be a while, though I saw on the news yesterday that the unions and studios had reached an agreement on how to restart filming. It all goes out the window with the first positive test, of course.

Oh, I really like that KD is going to be Jackie Templeton! That's a genuinely excellent use of GH history, for a change.

With all the talk about how much Robert loved Holly-something this show has tried to pretend never happened, I’m not surprised.

Let’s recall that Robert and Jackie were an item when he broke up with her to marry a pregnant Holly.

And I’ll take the rest of my thoughts to the episode thread.
