Cat lady here, too. ❤️

Which brings me back to our introvert/extrovert discussion.  Generally speaking, are introverts (like me) more apt to have a cat, and extroverts more likely to have a dog?  Not asking you specifically, meowwww, although I'd love to know what you think, too.

A last thought.  Paraphrasing George Carlin, "I like people.  I just like them in short bursts." That describes me pretty well.

I'll have to check out Zillow and Realtor.com.  I'm sure the day will never come when I can afford half a million for a house.  Lucky I'm not planning to move to Seattle, SoCal, or apparently, LV!

I am somewhat of an introvert cat lady.  You may be onto something.  You walk a cute dog and people may want to talk to you but no one is coming to my house (that I don't know) to see my kitties.  Who are bigger introverts that I am.  George Carlin was the best.

Menopause...or, "When Will I Stop Losing My Mind?"

Y'all, it's been five years now and I'm hoping that menopause is on its way out but leaving with a "bang" because in addition to weight gain and hot flashes, now I'm having tummy issues which I believe are tied to my "imaginary anxiety" - you know, the anxiety of laying awake at night thinking of all of the things...wondering when I'm going to have time to clean out my closets, where did I put those brand-new earbuds, should I go back to school, I really need to clean the bathroom, I wonder if my daughter is going to make it through college, etc.  It's like my brain is turned up to 11 and I need to turn it down but I don't know how.  It's getting out of hand.

When will it end?!? 😯

Oh, I wish I could tell you it ends in 5 years.  Between perimenopause, menopause, and post menopause (yup, they don't end when menses do) I had hot flashes for almost 15!😱  Don't believe in HRT so I had a GREAT time!

Well, perimenopause started 10 years ago so hopefully I am getting to the end.  I just love all the new and fun things this time of life has brought me.  It's like I trade one weird symptom for another lately, LOL.

I can’t tell you when, but I believe it WILL end. I’m 65 and I’d say I went through about 8 years of that horrible anxiety you talk about. It took awhile to find a doctor who explained it was tied to perimenopause and hormone fluctuations. Once I knew that, it helped a little bit I still felt very on-edge and nervous until things evened out. (I don’t do HRT as I am a breast cancer survivor.)

i did notice that for me, when I started to get that anxious feeling that seems like a gut punch out of nowhere, it tended to be followed by a hot flash. Not sure which was the cause and which was the effect but there sure seemed to be a link.

I got to the point that I was more frightened of having to experience the anxiety, than I was of whatever my brain decided to be anxious about!

The other very difficult symptom for me was heart palpitations. I was convinced I was about to drop dead despite a barrage of tests, explanation, and assurances. I once presented my doctor with a list of fears and concerns that was literally 18 inches long, and she patiently addressed each one.

(heart palpitations + a tendency toward anxiety = a twin spiral of hell that feeds on itself. Did not enjoy.)

Doc recommended Ativan to use as needed and after resisting it for a long time, I eventually agreed and that was helpful.

I will end this lament by repeating that it does end. And for me, now that I’m through it, I have never felt better. No more mood swings, PMS, “shark weeks,” etc. I feel like I’m myself and not subject to all the month nonsense women have to deal with - hormonally AND practically with supplies and so on. I know a lot of other women who agree and one even came up with the phrase “post-menopausal zest” to describe it.

So, hang in there! It’s not fun in the meantime but I’m confident it will get better!

I, too have been dealing with hot flashes, weight gain, etc...- the joys of menopause....

I had heard the term “wheat belly”, but didn’t really understand what it meant until I was forced to go on a wheat, gluten, dairy, soy, and egg free diet. I dropped over 20 pounds very quickly, as did my husband ( he followed my meal plan ). I believe the main culprit to be wheat and gluten. We have been eating as much as we want as long as we avoid the mentioned list of foods. Many people over 50 have troubles with wheat.

To anyone so inclined- CBD oil supplements can help immensely with anxiety and depression, as well as a myriad of menopause related issues.

So True,  I am  1 1/2 years into menopause and I still have some of these issues.  I still have the anxiety and hot flashes and my weight is in a bad place, but that could have more to do with eating and drinking what I want.

I have been dealing with Perimenopause for about 12 years, I literally am 1 week shy of my "year" free. Worst so far are the night sweats, however that extra 10.00 a month in not having to buy my sanitary items goes to my box of Trader Joe's Box Red....And my anxiety isnt too bad when I go to the beach and now won't fear becoming shark bait.

Don’t hate me, but I never had night sweats during menopause, I had night chills. I would wake up so cold that I would get up and put my fleece robe on and climb back into bed, with a blanket, in the middle of summer and I live in Florida! My GYN said it’s rare, but it does happen.

Completely off topic but your mention of CBD reminds me of my 78 year old mom. Someone (either her doctor or a friend of hers pretending to be one) recommended CBD oil for her as a stress reliever and as she was telling us this she giggled like she was being naughty. I guess now we can all toke around her now. Hooray for legal 420!!!

Regarding dry eyes from another topic....

Same issue here.  One day I was fine, the next I was like, what just happened to my eyes?!  Redness, burning, gritty feeling, trouble looking at my computer monitor at work.  For a few months I thought I was having a weird allergic reaction.  When I went for my annual eye exam, my doctor said I had a particularly severe case of dry eye, possibly exacerbated by hormone changes (yay menopause).  I have been using Restatis successfully for the past three years.  This past March, my new insurance decided to deny it.  I have been going without for 6 weeks and just yesterday, I finally pulled the trigger and am now paying a ridiculously high price to pay for it myself.  My eyes have started to get red again, and I don't want to wait until the symptoms are horrible like I did last time when I thought it was allergies....when the only relief I got was when I went to sleep at night.

At the risk of sounding like Janelle, I am trying to up my intake of omega-3 (salmon, spinach, etc). to see if I can heal my eyes naturally, along with my insanely expensive medicine.

Any tips would be EXTREMELY helpful!!

I have it too and while I am not a doctor my eye doctor recommended a bruder eye mask used 2 or 3 times a day 8-10 minutes, ocusoft foam, and then systane balance eye drops. All available on amazon. Eye drops almost everywhere. Not expensive.  My main issue is that my eyes dry out and get blurry in addition to the feeling of grit, heavy, etc. The eye mask helps a lot with that. He also recommended zaditor eye drops. Cheap to get store brand. It is for the allergies. Use twice a day. I am not a doctor. He is. I feel like since he said I have allergic conjunctivitis and dry eye and everything is over the counter I’m okay with it.

Thanks!  Going to order that eye mask!

I also have been using Systane.  If I can wean myself off Restasis, that would be wonderful, but I have no idea if this is something that will improve with time or get worse.  I mean, I made it almost a month without the drug before noticing the redness coming back.

I will try anything.  I HATE when people ask me, have you been crying?  Do you have allergies?  Etc.

I kept thinking I had pink eye and had no idea that those symptoms can be dry eye.  I thought that the dr was wrong and it wasn't dry eye but yep.  I haven't wanted to do restasis in case it isn't covered because it is expensive (I suppose I could ask).  The eye guy kept talking about putting in eye plugs but no thank you.  I would like to try everything else first.  I am going to get what Lookeyloo suggested and will try what you are doing as well (upping Omega 3).  Turning 50/menopause is like a bad prank.  All this stuff just happens one day and its crazy!  By the way, you do NOT sound like Janelle.  HA!

My eye Dr. said once you started using Restasis you could not stop. Eye drops and a warm wet rag on the eyes helps me. I am going to look into the eye mask.

I also thought Restatis was an on-it-for-life drug.  So when I was forced to go off of it for awhile, things were fine for about a month and I thought, okay - maybe I don't actually need it anymore?  But if insurance denies my appeal, then I am going to have to try some other options because this stuff is crazy expensive, and I guess Allergan did some shady stuff to keep competitors from producing a generic brand, thus forcing anyone with dry eye to pay for Restatis.  I hate insurance.  Menopause is no picnic at the moment, either.

I think the eye mask is really good.  Very soothing.  I looked up restasis and there are some coupons etc that the drug company? issues to help with the price.  I'm not interested in going on it.  The only things I am on for life right now are my two thyroid pills.  Is it possible to get good results from Restasis by using half a dose?  Like once a day vs two, or every other day?

Restasis did not help me. My eyes laughed at it. Lol I have a cornea condition but, also dry eye. I use Systane gel during the day and ointment at night. I also bought goggles to sleep in, but they don't fit. Too large. I'm negotiating return. Will post company tomorrow. They have great customer service so far. I recently had eyelid surgery that has helped. Still...people just don't realize how it impacts your life.

This is something I haven't experienced YET.

It seems like every year I hear of another malady or health problem afflicting women friends and then Boom... Out of the blue I wake-up one morning and there it is.

So I guess I now have dry eye to look forward to.

Thanks for sharing and all the advice.

I have severe dry eye due to an auto immune condition. I have tried it all- OTC drops, gel and ointment. I have tried the tear duct plugs and Restasis as well as high omega-3 capsules. I sleep with a sleep mask.

Unfortunately for me, none seem to really help long term. Sure I do have some short term relief but nothing more than a few hours. My eyes can be very, very painful at times.

I am also slowly losing my eyelashes due to the oil glands on my eyelids being blocked (by “debris” that is normally flushed by tears.)

I am scheduled to see my cornea specialist next month and he is going to discuss some new prescriptions that are new to the market. Fingers crossed.

If anyone has found a solution that has worked for them I am all for trying it out!

I will be 69 in July. A few years ago I began to notice that almost all of my conditions or complaints began or became an issue during the spring, when another year of using my parts and systems was nearing completion.

How about feeling a very sharp pinch/ping when you ovulate? I started noticing it during my late 20s and after awhile decided that it must be something else because it was always on one side. After a hysterectomy I found out that one of my ovaries had never functioned.

How about the sensation that a battle is starting when you take antibiotics or antihistamines? One side is determined to live and one side is determined to kick ass and take no prisoners and something beginning between them can be sensed? It's fleeting, if you're busy it's easily overlooked, but if you're idle a sensation of energy and intention is noticeable.

For me, yes.  The instructions say to use one single-dose vial in the morning and one at night.  But because it does sting, my eye doc said to just use it at night and it still definitely helped.  This is why I am able to get three nights out of one vial, thus extending my prescription a lot longer (the one-dose vials are more than enough for one dose, for sure)!

I just dropped a wad of cash out of pocket for Restasis.  Literally an hour later, my eye doctor's office called to say that a rep had dropped off some samples and they were holding them for me, LOL.  Very nice of them to do.  Now I have enough to get me through the summer.

Still going to order the eye mask and up the omega-3's and see what happens.  Dry eye is a PITA, for sure!

For the debris, the ocusoft works to clear it out.  I got the pads in the blue box first and then saw on amazon there is a foam in a gray container, that only takes a little, rub it on eye lids and leave it on.  I just used that and it all feels good right now, a couple hours later.  My eye doctor told me to use the Bruder eye mask first, not a sleep mask, it is on Amazon, and I think it loosens things up so you can wipe the debris away better.  He told me that as we age, the oil glands in the eyelids atrophy and we need a "lipid" layer.  Not sure that is your issue, but, I think the things he told me are harmless and maybe can help.

Ha!! No no it’s a Our joke. All in jest.

And yes if I had to be a sister wife I would want her as one (I would pick the man though). I would trust her implicitly to care for the elderly, she has excellent domestic skills, and would appreciate my hard work outside the home and attention to budgeting. But we say we would have to have a 3rd wife to keep the husband company while we hung out.

Table for one here: I detest Disney. Many years ago we took our 4 kids to Disneyworld and by early afternoon our kids were ready to leave- we were SO proud !!

People's opinions on vacations and entertainment are so interesting to me.  May I ask, what about it didn't they like?  Or was it just not their thing?

I am very "meh" on Disney in general (movies, characters, etc.) but I LOVE Disneyland.  I actively hated the Magic Kingdom at Disneyworld because it wasn't just the same as Disneyland.  (Though I really enjoyed parks like Animal Kingdom and Epcot that I'd never seen before.)  Certainly the heat, crowds, and lines can get old very quickly, not to mention the cost of everything.  I once went to Disneyland on a week that coincided with Spring Break.  Never again!  But I have to admit that if I had z-list celeb plyg money big LLR money Kody's credit card number I could go yearly and never get bored.

Anyway, different strokes and all.  I have friends whose great joy in life is camping on the same patch of land every year.  I'd go nuts. 🙂

Ha, I am one of those people that goes to the same place every year - we go to a town in northern Michigan, have been going every year for the past 25 years.  It's gone through some big changes over the years but it's our happy place, for sure.  It's like when we get there, I can feel my entire body exhale.  I love going to new places throughout the year, but July is for Traverse City. 🙂

@laurakaye I know what you mean!  I have a small town I have to visit every summer, too, and I can totally relate to the full body exhale.

@AZChristian I like that "classic" designation.  Conglomeration is right!  You should have seen my face when I learned that you have to line up in a cattle chute to ride a bus from park to park.

No doubt our kids picked up on our low key disdain for the commercial side of Disney. Standing in long lines with tons of other hot, impatient people isn’t that enjoyable to my family. The subject of Disney can be fairly polarizing for many people, so I better play it safe and not get too deep into what we don’t like about it.

I will happily join the Anything Disney is the a Nightmare on Earth crowd.  You couldn't pay me to go ever again. I was at the Florida one for about 4 hours and clawed my way out in a panic.  The lines, the people, the music - ugh.  And this was in early December when it's not busy!  I see nothing magic about being sent down chutes like cattle to the slaughterhouse.

I love going to new places throughout the year, but July is for Traverse City. 🙂

And if you ever get tired of the west side, come on over the the other TC - Tawas City.  Enjoy the Sunrise Side!

Disney is the last place I would want to visit. I think I've been there 4 times in my life!

Give me Puerto Vallarta any day. Cheaper, friendlier, better food, and more fun!

So what I'm hearing is that we should not hold our first annual Primetimer Sister Wives convention at any Disney property. Ok.

How do we all feel about Parowan? 🤣

I'd take Parowan over Disney any/every day!! 😎

I  understand the fear, concern, heartbreak, and stress in this current situation. I ask that we please remember the politics policy. Keep politics, political references, and political figures (past and present) out of the discussion.
